Fuel Scarcity: Buhari Has Abandoned Nigerians — PDP

0

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for travelling out of the country and abandoning Nigerians amid the fuel scarcity across the nation.

This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba. The party accused leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the helm of affairs in the petroleum sector of crippling economic activities in Nigeria.

“The decision by President Muhammadu Buhari to jet out to the United Kingdom (where leaders are committed) for yet another ‘routine medical check-up after his administration has wrecked our healthcare system and when the nation which he leads is in crisis, underscores the insensitivity of the APC which by nature and outlook has never been ready for governance since inception,” the party said in the statement issued on Thursday.

“While other world leaders are solving problems in their countries, President Buhari, who promised to fix our refineries, abandoned Nigerians to the excruciating fuel crisis caused by the corruption perpetrated by APC leaders in the helm of affairs in the petroleum sector, which has now crippled economic activities in the country.”

With President Buhari out of the country, the PDP explained that this action “exposes APC’s lack of commitment towards the wellbeing and development of Nigerians youths”.

The main opposition party regretted that the populace was at the mercy of black-market vendors.

“With the corruption and abdication of duty by the APC, our nation is now at the mercy of black-market vendors who charge already overburdened Nigerians as high as N500 per liter of fuel; a development that has resulted in [a]spiral increase in transport fares, costs of food, medicines, and other essential commodities,” the communique read.

“This is in addition to the collapse of many businesses, massive loss of jobs, hunger and starvation, [the] sudden death of breadwinners with grave economic pressure on millions of families and attendant social consequences to our country.”

The party claimed that the APC leadership is in chaos with no solution to the prevailing crisis in the country.

“The prevailing chaotic situation in the country with widespread uncertainties, unabating fuel crisis, piercing economic hardship, sectional agitations, heated industrial unrests, infrastructural stagnation, kidnapping, daily bloodletting and escalated insecurity with gangsters now taking over the streets of major cities further confirms that the APC administration is now on autopilot with its central command structure in disarray.”

It, therefore, charged Nigerians to brace up and support one another in the face of “abandonment” by the APC administration, stating that these are “critical indicators that show that the APC has abdicated its constitutional duty to guarantee the security and welfare of the people”.

He accused people he described as old men who have an archaic belief that women are not meant to lead of being responsible for why the Bill was voted against on Tuesday during a voting process to amend the 1999 Constitution.

While commending the National Assembly for voting in favour of other Bills, including independence of the judiciary, removal of electricity from exclusive to concurrent list, autonomy of the local government and other issues, he expressed sadness over the rejection of the affirmative action Bill, describing it as unfortunate.

The Abia governorship aspirant said even though men are placed at an advantage when it comes to mobilising funds to prosecute election, women should be given opportunity to have a reasonable level acceptance and involvement in governance.

They still have this old attitude that women don’t have much to do in the society. Time has changed. Women are doing a whole lot more.

“If you check around the world where women are Presidents and Prime Ministers, they are doing great,” he said.

The Interpol Systems Consultant urged that women should not be relegated to the background, adding that the former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a clear example that women have capacity to lead.

2023: I Can’t Deny Tinubu My Support, Says Emir Of Katsina

The Emir of Katsina, Dr. Abdulmuminin Kabir Usman, has promised to look into the political aspiration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with the view to contributing, advising and correcting where necessary.

Dr Usman said there was no way he could disown the leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the event that he needed his support considering their long lasting relationship.

“We will look into whatever movement he is into, where we will support where there is need to support and we will correct where necessary. I knew Tinubu when he was governor while I was district head and he has assisted me in many ways. Now that I am on the throne, he is contesting for president, tell me why I should disown him,” the emir has said.

The emir was speaking in his palace in Katsina when he received members of the Arewa Organisations Movement for Asiwaju led by Senator Abu Ibrahim.

He maintained that with the security challenges raging particularly in the northern part of the country, which he said was man made, there was the need to elect somebody with the ability to return normalcy and that must be done with all sincerity.

“So, this man that you brought, Tinubu, is home here, he is son of the soil and he has done a lot for me. I was in Lagos some three weeks ago, the first since 1967 and I have seen how Lagos is transformed and I concluded that all the country’s wealth is in Lagos,” he said.

The emir said Nigeria is the only country Nigerians have and therefore urged them avoid myopic sentiments and work together for peace and socio-economic activities to thrive in the country.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation, told the emir that if supported, Tinubu has the wherewithal of addressing the challenges of the country.

He said the delegation was therefore at the emir’s palace to solicit his blessings, support and advice on the actualisation of the dream of the Arewa Organisations Movement for Asiwaju 2023.

The delegation was earlier at the Katsina Government House where they met Governor Aminu Bello Masari on the same mission.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has warned Nigerians not to pay any officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) or touts for passports.

The minister gave the warning at the unveiling of the enhanced electronic passport facility and inauguration of the passport production centre at the Enugu office.

The centre, inaugurated three months after the commissioning of that of the South West in Ibadan, is to serve the entire South-East.

He said anyone caught trying to bribe NIS officials would be prosecuted as all payment should now be done online following the introduction of enhanced electronic passports.

Aregbesola said the introduction of the enhanced electronic passports was to eradicate scams, racketeering and all other forms of corruption in the application process.

Speaking at the event, the acting comptroller-general of the NIS, Isah Jere Idris, said the new enhanced electronic passport was of a polycarbonate technology, with additional 25 security features over the old electronic type.

He said Nigeria was the first country in Africa to migrate to this type of passport.

The enhanced electronic passport comes in three categories: the 32-page five-year validity, the 64-page five-year validity and the 64-page 10-year validity.

The embattled leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has raised the alarm that enemies of Biafra are converging to stop the Republic from becoming a reality, urging his legal team to be strong and not distracted.

Nnamdi Kanu May Go Blind, His Sight Deteriorating, Ozekhome Tells Court

While noting that they are unhappy that IPOB will have victory at the end of its fight with the federal government of Nigeria, he said the battle for freedom is not over yet.

The IPOB leader made this known to newsmen in Owerri, through the IPOB’s lead counsel Ifeanyi Ejiofor.

Ejiofor had earlier visited Kanu at the detention facility of the Department of State Services, DSS, Thursday in Abuja.

According to the IPOB, lawyer, “The court-ordered routine visit to our indefatigable Client – Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was observed yesterday, 3rd March 2022. Afterdays, which turned into weeks of grandstanding, we were able to meet with our Client- Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. In his unshaken/undeterred resolve, Onyendu was in high spirits yesterday.

“Onyendu took time to explain why he protested against the denial of access to his lawyers during the last three successive visits. He was deeply troubled with those incidents, particularly when it was done in flagrant disregard and violation of extant Orders of Court.

“We understood Onyendu’s grouse and seized the opportunity to intimate him of the measures we have taken so far to ensure that such ugly incident does not reoccur. Onyendu used the opportunity to offer advice and words of encouragement particularly to myself. He took his time to urge me to remain resolute and focused, and never to be distracted by the deliberate evil ploys of the enemies to break me.

“Indeed, Onyendu saw tomorrow! Unknown to him that at the time he was handing down these words of encouragement and encomium, the slander mongers were hurriedly putting together another stunt which, was however, dead on arrival.”

“Onyendu particularly encouraged me to be strong and even more stronger in the coming days. He said that I should expect more and more slander, but I should be assured that himself and UmuChineke will always be there for me.

“We all agreed that this is a very critical period as victory is staring on our faces and, any opportunity offered to be distracted will take us back because the enemies are united in their resolve but their evil plots are all surmountable,” IPOB lawyer said.

The stranded Nigerians were evacuated to Nigeria following the intervention of the Federal Government with the cooperation of governments of countries neighbouring Ukraine.

According to Gabriel Aduda, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Government has made all necessary arrangements to ensure that no Nigerian is left stranded in any of the countries where they have fled to.

After His Wife Abandoned Him, Police Sergeant Goes Berserk, Kills Two Colleagues, Injure Father-In-Law

0

Until Wednesday, March 2, neighbours of Sergeant Bello said he never showed the trait of an unstable man.

But when his wife left him on that fateful day, he went berserk, shooting four of his colleagues, including his father-in-law, Inspector John Kande.

The father-in-law, from Benue State, is also a policeman serving in the same barracks as his son-in-law.

His daughter got pregnant for the Borno-born Sergeant Bello two years ago, and the two became a couple having two children and living together.

Then, Sergeant Bello went after him. He escaped the shooting with a bullet on his leg, but two others were not so lucky. They died on the spot. One of them was shot in his stomach by the rampaging police sergeant who was protesting the abandonment of his wife with gunshots.

A neighbour of the police sergeant told newsmen that trouble started on the morning of March 2 when the wife of the police sergeant bolted away for reasons undisclosed.

The police sergeant stormed his in-law’s home to demand that his wife returns.

The in-law, also a police officer resident in the same barracks, pleaded with the angry sergeant to wait for the mother of his wife to return home for a proper resolution of the misunderstanding.

But the police sergeant, it was learnt, accused his in-laws of planning to marry off their daughter to another man. He left furious and reported to work like every other policeman that morning.

He signed for his rifle and went to his duty post. Hours later, the unpleasant happened. The police sergeant, with his gun, stormed the Commandant’s Market in the barracks and opened fire randomly at people wining and dining there.

Two of his colleagues died instantly while one person was brutally injured with bullet wounds.

The police sergeant then marched with his gun to his in-law’s duty post where he also shot at him. The in-law managed to escape with bullets lodged inside his leg.

Sergeant Bello was not done. Having run out of bullets, he went to his in-law’s apartment and set it on fire. The fire affected three other apartments.

The police sergeant has now been apprehended and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department
