My Mission At APC Secretariat With Buhari’s Blessings, Says Niger Governor As He Takes Over Party

A fresh crisis is brewing in the All Progressives Congress (APC), with Governor Sani Bello of Niger State taking charge of the ruling party pending the March 26 convention.

In what took many by surprise, Bello stepped into the shoes of his Yobe counterpart, Governor Mai Mala Buni, who has been presiding over the affairs of the ruling party since the exit of Adams Oshiomhole two years ago.

Shortly after taking over, Bello has received a report of the party’s zoning committee ahead of the convention.

The zoning committee was constituted last week with Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as chairman.

In an interview with newsmen after the event, the Niger State governor said his role at the party’s national secretariat has President Muhammadu Buhari’s blessing.

He said he would be coming to the party’s national secretariat “almost everyday” to discharge his duties.

On why security was beefed up at the party’s national secretariat, he said, “Well, every time there is a major event, we beef up security.

“Today, we have a major event and all the chairmen came in, so they are to maintain law and order.

“Most of my colleagues are here to support me to receive the report. You know the zoning committee report is a very important one. And all the governors here are here to support me. Now, at the zonal level, they can go and do their work.”

In his remarks, Secretary of the APC Caretaker Committee, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, said Buni was on a medical trip.

The content of the report was not made public.

State governors present during the event held at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, were; Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Hope Uzodinma (Imo), among others.

A group in the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, has endorsed former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, for the presidency in 2023, saying he is the most qualified for the nation’s number one office.

The group, known as Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu Support group, at its meeting in Kaduna State, said the former governor has all the qualities to tackle the myriads of socio-economic challenges confronting the nation including insecurity and an ailing economy.

Speaking during the meeting on Sunday, the Director-General of Senator Ahmed Tinubu Support group, Patrick Olatunji, described Tinubu as a detribalized person who has mentored and made thousands of people in politics and business, noting that the All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain will replicate the same when he becomes the president in 2023.

“He has demonstrated it in Lagos State, he is prepared for the job. He is ambitious to be President, but he is prepared. He has trained many people, he has foot soldiers in all nooks and crannies in this country,” he said.

“They work for him and that is why all of us are here. By the grace of God, when he gets there, I know our problem in this country will be solved 100 per cent.

“This man has connections all over the world. When there was [an] election crisis in Osun that PDP said they won the election, he traveled abroad to get these forensic people, the first in the whole world. He used that forensic tactic to win back Osun State.”

Olatunji also said that Tinubu will revamp the nation’s power sector as well as make industries strive should be emerge as Nigeria’s president next year.

Other members of the group also said that majority of northern residents have already bought into the Tinubu 2023 presidential project on the grounds that he has the capacity to reunite and champion the country on the part of progress and also tackle insecurity.

According to them, the country still needs mature people with vast knowledge and experience like Tinubu to take it to the level of greater development and progress.

In most states the clamour for power shift to one or two Senatorial zones has been intensified, in the nation at large the same clamour for power shift to the South East has also deepened. This has also narrowed down to the Federal constituency level where power shift is being advocated for between local government areas.

In Isuikwuato/Umuneochi constituency of Abia state the situation is no exception as the people of Isuikwuato are gearing towards a battle to Abrogate their 16 years of marginalisation from producing a House of Representative Legislator at the National Assembly.

Endowed with incalculable distinguished personalities in a fields of life, Isuikwuato LGA has unfortunately been what I can describe as the on-lookers in the political scheme of things as they have continued to remain sidelined.

A notable quote credited to Amobi during the build to the 2019 elections reads: “My people want me to represent them at the House of Representatives in 2019 because they know I’m the one who has the capacity and doggedness to return power to them in our constituency; it’s a call I cannot say no to”.

In the spirit of sportsmanship, Amobi despite committing five years of planting the APC in Isuikwuato/Umunneochi, stepped down and paved the way for a new APC entrant ‘Nkeiru Onyejeocha’ to get the party’s ticket.  2023 officially make it 16 years of Umunneochi and Onyejeocha’s reign at the corridors of power of the National Assembly another four years counting from 2023 will make it 20 good years of blatant marginalisation of Isuikwuato from the political surface.

As 2023 elections the onus lies on the people of both Local Governments to exhibit the spirit of brotherhood,purge themselves of personal interest and support Amobi’s crusade to end the injustice metted on the people of Umunneochi. As Amobi braces up to against all odds to bring prestigious representation to the good people of Isuikwuato/Umuneochi all political parties are encouraged to tow the path of honour by zoning the house of representatives ticket to Umuneochi in the spirit of openness, fair play , justice and equity.

Asides the basis of power shift , Amobi an accomplished entrepreneur has the proven to have the capacity to enhance the fortunes of the people with the formulation of quality laws and the ability to facilitate projects that will create wealth and employment. With his avalanche of political contacts at all levels Amobi will attract projects to isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency by working in harmony with the federal government.

Although it is unconfirmed whether he takes over as Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee or not, our correspondent observed that the Governor’s vehicle was parked at the space reserved only for the Chairman.

Bello alongside other party chieftains are currently in a closed-door meeting.

Earlier on Monday, there have been reports of the governor replacing Mai Mala Buni as ‘sole administrator’ of the APC.

But the National Secretary of the CECPC, Dr James Akpanudoedehe, debunked the reports saying, Buni remained the Chairman and would oversee the party’s affairs until the election of new members of the National Working Committee come March 26 Convention.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Abia State, has flatly debunked insinuations in some quarters that it had zoned its governorship ticket ahead of the 2023 poll, explaining that the party is yet to take a position on that.

In a communique jointly signed by the state Chairman of the party, Rt. Hon. Asiforo Okere; and Secretary, Mr. David Iro, on behalf of the State Exco, after an emergency meeting held at the party Secretariat Umuahia, PDP accused “mischief makers of peddling the baseless rumour”.

The party explained that contrary to the “fabricated propaganda, PDP is still consulting on the matter”.

PDP urged “Abians and the PDP family, in particular, to disregard the unfounded rumours because the state chapter of the party that is constitutionally saddled with such sole responsibility is still consulting the stakeholders of the party on the matter.”

The communique further explained that “the ongoing sensitization cum familiarization tours of the 17 LGAs of the state by the PDP state Exco” was part of its consultation with the party chieftains.

“As soon as the party concludes the consultation, it will take vital decisions for progress of the party”, the communique added.

The party said that it has implicit confidence in the maturity of the PDP stakeholders in handling political matters.

It urged potential aspirants for the Governorship seat and other political elective offices “to remain calm and wait till the party takes its stand in line with its vision and mission to promote unity, peace, stability and progress of the party”.

Driver Of BRT Arrested After Murder Of Passenger, Oluwabamise Ayanwole

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command on Monday have arrested the driver of a Bus Rapid Transit who drove murdered 22-year-old Oluwabamise Ayanwole.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adekunle Ajisebutu, made this known in a chat, even as he confirmed that the dead body of the lady has been found.

He also said the killers of Ayanwole, who got missing in transit while onboard the bus, would face justice.

According to the PPRO, the abductors dumped the remains of the lady on the Carter Bridge by Ogogoro Community.

Ayanwola got missing while returning to Ota from Ajah on February 26 when she boarded a BRT bus with number 240257 going to Oshodi at about 7pm at Chevron Bus-Stop.

The Abia State chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC has called on Hon. Nnenna Ukeje, former House of Representatives member not to associate the party with the alleged burning of her father’s house in Alayi, Bende local government area of the state, alleging that it is a ploy by the ruling PDP in the state to decimate the APC.

State Secretary of the party, Mr. Perfect Okorie while speaking with ABN TV on Sunday said the party sympathizes with Hon. Ukeje if indeed anything happened to the house being paraded as razed down, but insisted that no APC member is involved in her predicament as being alleged.

Mr. Okorie said the campaign is a desperate efforts to pitch the people against APC in Bende where he claimed the party is most popular in Abia, insisting that such will be resisted.

He challenged Hon. Ukeje and the PDP to provide evidence that members of the APC were seen in the vicinity of the burnt house before and after the incident. He warned them to desist from the harassment and indiscriminate arrest of APC members in the local Government.

“If you look at the video clip being paraded on the social media, the houses in the said premises are still standing and nothing happened to them.

“The upholstery is still intact, including the curtains. This begins to raise serious doubt on the veracity or otherwise of the claim.

“Yes the person alleging has shown clip of two vehicles burnt but the questions we will continue to ask is, are there no security men in the compound?

“If there are, have they been questioned on who did what as at when that purported incident occurred and where they gained entry from.

“These are serious questions that should be answered. Who was available when the incident happened? Did they see any APC member before or after?

“They should not be making spurious allegations against APC. We are peace-loving party. We don’t engage in violence. In 2019 APC captured Bende Federal Constituency peacefully without bloodshed.

“We did it because the people believe in our party and our candidate, Hon. Benjamin Kalu. He is there doing his job peacefully and delivering the dividends of democracy to his constituents.

“We are saying he should not be disturbed. His name should not in any way be associated with such evil claim” stating that, there is no nexus between Hon. Benjamin Kalu a sitting member of the House of Representatives and Hon Nnenna a former member of the House who has not declared any interest in running for an election. If there is any collision, it should be between her and her party members and certainly not with APC not Benjamin Kalu who is focused on ensuring that democracy dividend reaches all nooks and crannies in Bende,” the party warned.

Mr. Okorie took a swipe at the PDP for holding power in Bende Federal Constituency for 12 years without a single project to show for it, warning the party to desist from smear campaign against Hon. Benjamin Kalu and APC. He therefore called for the immediate release of all APC members arrested on the instigation Hon. Nnenna Ukeje and the PDP in Bende. While calling on the Law enforcement agencies to meticulously investigate the incident so as to unravel to truth behind same.

Primate Ayodele warned that the dollar exchange rate would soon rise to N650 due to economic challenges.

The clergyman noted that the dollar would not return to N200 or N350 again due to the economic challenges that may befall Nigeria if not addressed.

In a statement by his spokesman, Oluwatosin Osho, he explained that the country needs special prayer to overcome the economic challenges.

According to Ayodele: “The economy will not be any better, and some state governors will be in debt. Workers and banks will face some challenges, we still don’t understand what this economy is talking about, and we need serious prayers at this very crucial time.

“There will be an increase in standard and cost of living. Nigeria will still borrow, and we must also be careful of our oil products.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained President Muhamadu Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Senate President, Speaker and others from refusing to implement the newly passed Electoral Act as it is.

Justice Inyang Ekwo,in a ruling on Monday, also restrained the Senate President, Speaker, INEC and seven others from acceding to Buhari’s request that the National Assembly reworks the new Electoral Act by delete Section 84(12) of the new law.

The ruling was on a motion ex-parte for interim injunctions, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/247/2022 filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Listed as defendants are: the President of the Federation, the AGF, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Clerk of the National Assembly, the Senate Leader, the House Leader of the House of Assembly, INEC, the Deputy President of the Senate, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps, the Deputy Senate Leader and the Deputy House Leader of the House of Reps.

Justice Ekwo, after listening to lawyer to the PDP, James Onoja (SAN), who argued the motion, issued an order of interim injunction restraining the defendants and their agents “from refusing to implement the duly signed Electoral Act or in any manner howsoever withholding the said Act from being put to use or failing to or refusing in any manner howsoever from enforcing the provisions of the said Electoral Act 2022 including the provisions of Section 84 (12) of the said Act pending the determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction filed in this suit.

He further issued an order of interim injunction restraining the other defendants, except the President and the AGF, “from implementing or in manner whatsoever, giving effect to the directive of the first defendant/respondent to delete or remove the provisions of Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022 on the ground that it is unconstitutional or at all or in any manner taking any step at the behest of the first defendant/respondent or at all to render Section 84 of the Electoral Act 2022 inoperative pending the determination of the motion on Notice for interlocutory injunction filed in this suit.

The PDP argued that the President, having assented to the Electoral Bill forwarded to him on February 25, 2022 cannot give any directive to the National Assembly to take immediate steps to remove a section of the said Electoral Act 2022 on any ground or grounds whatsoever.

It further argued that the duty to interpret any law is exclusively reserved for the Judiciary, not the Executive including the President.

The PDP contended that contrary to constitutional provisions that guaranteed the separation of powers between the Legislature, Executive and the Judiciary, the principal officers of the National Assembly, listed as defendants in the suit, “intend to usurp the judicial functions of the courts, which is exclusively reserved for the judicial arm of the government as guaranteed under the said Constitution of the Federal Government of Nigeria 1999 as amended, to give effect to the proclamation or declaration of the first defendant/respondent that the provisions of Section 4(12) of the Electoral Act 2022 is unconstitutional.”

It added that the motion ex-parte was filed to ensure that the principal officers of the National Assembly do not give effect to the President’s directive to remove Section 84(12) of the Act.

Justice Ekwo has fixed further hearing in the case for March 21.
