The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reacted to a viral video showing some male and female corps members dancing suggestively at an unidentified orientation camp.

The video, according to NYSC’s Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations, Emeka Mgbemena, goes “beyond the boundary of decency”.

He said, “The attention of NYSC Management has been drawn to a video currently trending on the social media showing Corps Members supposedly in NYSC Orientation camp in very compromising actions that pushed beyond the boundary of decency.

“Management hereby restates that the Scheme is founded on discipline, patriotism and youth-reorientation and will never condone such irresponsible behaviour,” he stated.

Mgbemena added that investigations were still ongoing and that the culprits would be disciplined as a result of their actions.

“Investigation is currently ongoing, and anyone found culpable will be treated in accordance with the bye-laws of the Scheme,” he concluded.

Insecurity: Imo Will Overcome Current Travails – Uzodimma

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has pledged commitment to prudence and accountability in the deployment of the state’s resources at his disposal.

Uzodimma disclosed this in an interview on Channels Television in Owerri, the state capital, maintaining that he was conscious and has been executing projects that would add value to Imo people.

His words: “We are working through our prudent measures, we are able to identify priority projects that will add value to our people and ensure that economic activities in Imo State are stimulated.

“The contractors are doing well, but we will continue to put pressure to ensure that they are not relaxed – But I’m impressed so far with the quality and quantity of construction going on in the state.”

He pointed out that the quality of the roads under construction were within the design standards, stressing: “It is our usual routine programme to inspect roads and other projects of the state government.

“To also ensure that the construction is according to standard and specifications – and the speed is also there to make sure all the projects are completed within record time.”

On President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Uzodimma said the president’s achievements were unprecedented, adding: “With the level of President Buhari’s accomplishments from 2015 till date, APC has capacity to beat any presidential candidate that the People Democratic Party (PDP) may present next year.”

On his capacity as Imo governor, he maintained that his performance had led to envy of his opponents, saying: “My performance attracted envy and changed the character of political opposition in the state.”

When asked about criticisms of his administration, he said: “In every profession and career, there are bound to be challenges and even our detractors will agree that a lot has happened in Imo State.”

Uzodimma said he faced serious challenges when he assumed duty as governor, adding: “Because of the limited resources at our disposal, we adopted segmented approach and reprioritised our programmes.”

He appealed to Imo people to identify with his administration: insisting: “I have said a number of times that our leaders, who feel offended should to come back, because I am not taking anything personal, but looking at the collective interest of Imo State and its development, as well as the interest of our youths and women.

Police Nab Suspected Oil Thieves In Ondo

The police, in collaboration with the Ondo State chapter of the Association of Refineries Petroleum Marketers (ARPM), has arrested a notorious gang that specialises in stealing and distributing stolen Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in the state.

National Chairman of ANRPM Taskforce, Eshanekpe Israel, a.k.a. Akpodoro, in a statement, said the suspects were intercepted with three fully-loaded Toyota Sequia SUVs along Irele-Ore Road from the coastal areas on the way to their market.

State Chairman of ANRPM, Kehinde Olabisi Rabiat, who coordinated the operation, said the security team acted on credible intelligence.

She noted that Igbokoda and other riverine areas of the state were flashpoints for the illicit acts by petroleum marketers, who she accused of vandalism, products adulteration and marketing.

Rabiat said her team was committed to the war against sundry crimes in the downstream sector, warning that community leaders who connive with criminals to sabotage the Nigerian oil wealth will not be spared.

She commended the police command, led by Oyediran Oyeyemi, for rising to the occasion.

Three SUVs used for the criminal operations and the contents have been impounded by the Ore Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation, while the drivers are in custody as the investigation continues towards making more arrests.

Oyeyemi, who noted that economic sabotage was a serious offence, stressed that Ondo was not a harbinger of criminals.

He said the police under his command would make the state unattractive for would-be criminals, adding that the war on pipeline vandalism was total.

 

2023: Resign Now If You Have Political Ambition, Kaduna Govt Advises Appointees

The Kaduna State Government has directed all political appointees and public servants aspiring for political offices in the 2023 general elections to resign on or before March 31, 2022.

This directive is contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the state government, Balarabe Abbas, who said that the directive for such public office holders to resign their present appointments in the public service is in conformity with the 2022 Electoral Act recently signed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He, therefore, said that such persons have until March 31 to tender their resignation letter to enable them to pursue their political aspirations.

The 2022 Electoral Act specifies that such officers should resign from office 30 days before the party primaries for the post for which they are aspiring.

NSCDC Nabs 14 Suspected Smugglers In Akwa Ibom, Seizes Adulterated Diesel

The Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Tuesday said it arrested 14 suspected smugglers and impounded 1,700 litres of adulterated Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) in the state.

The suspects were arrested on March 10 and 14, 2022, in Itu and Onna local government areas of the state, respectively.

Parading the suspects on Tuesday, the state Commandant, Mr Abidemi Majekodunmi, lamented the damage the smugglers were doing to the economy.

He said, “In our custody, we have 14 suspects and we also have as exhibits four trucks laden with suspected petroleum products.

“In total capacity, we have 1,700 litres of AGO inside the trucks. They were accosted in four different locations. Three of them fall within Itu LGA, while the fourth one was arrested in Onna LGA of Akwa Ibom State.

“Definitely, we are suspicious of the content of the trucks. From our preliminary investigation, we suspect that these are adulterated petroleum products. We are working on the suspicion that they may be stolen products.

“Investigation is underway and we want to tell Akwa Ibom people that there is no breeding space for criminals and vandals in the state.”

In a related development, the Nigerian Navy Ship, Pathfinder, in Rumuolumeni, Rivers State, has handed over five suspected oil thieves, a diesel-laden barge and a tugboat to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The Navy, during the handover on Tuesday, said the suspects and the seized items, which included a truck used in conveying illegally refined petroleum products, were from different parts of the state.

The NNS Pathfinder Base Operating Officer, Abubakar Sidi, while parading the suspects before journalists, said the Navy would ensure that oil theft and other related crimes were reduced to the barest minimum in the state.

Receiving the suspects and exhibits from the Navy, an Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, Mr Shaka Arasah, who represented the Port Harcourt Zonal Commandant, Nwakike Nwaneka, said the suspects would be prosecuted if found culpable.

APC Moves To Vacate Order Stopping Convention, Says No Going Back On March 26 Date

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has begun the process to vacate a court order restraining the party from conducting its national convention even as party insists March 26 date remains sacrosanct.

APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) National Secretary, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, disclosed this while briefing reporters at the party’s secretariat on Tuesday in Abuja.

“The party has engaged a team of senior lawyers to address a purported court order halting the planned APC National Convention,” he said.

“We hereby call on the judiciary to give the matter the needed and expedient attention in our bid to vacate the purported court order and allow for the conduct of a transparent and rancour-free national convention deserving of our great party, APC.”

Reports had emerged that Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State was sacked as chairman of the CECPC, while his Niger State counterpart, Governor Abubakar Bello, took over the leadership of the party.

Governor Bello later presided over a meeting of the CECPC on Monday, saying he had the support of President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of the APC.

The party had later requested the presence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at an emergency meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC), but the electoral umpire rejected the request.

INEC explained that it took the decision because the notice for the meeting was not signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary of the CECPC.

Clarifying the controversy during the briefing, Akpanudoedehe insisted that the APC is crisis-free, strong, and remains united in giving Nigerians the leadership and governance that it promised them.

“On the 28th day of February 2022, the CECPC Chairman took a long-delayed trip abroad on health grounds, leaving behind written authorisation for other members of the CECPC to continue work in his absence, particularly the day to day management of the APC,” he explained.

“In his (Buni’s) absence, sundry activities earlier scheduled for action appeared to develop fresh urgency in order to satisfy the timetable for the 2023 general elections released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), thus galvanising some within the CECPC to act in their best understanding of both the situation and the leadership dynamics in the committee/party.

“All such actions were clearly identified at all times as happening in an acting or proxy capacity, and under the auspices of the substantive Chairman, His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, contrary to widespread speculations that the Chairman, Secretary or some other officials of the CECPC have been removed from Office or otherwise replaced.”

According to Akpanudoedehe, the CECPC is intact and functional as originally constituted, and delivering a seamlessly successful national convention on March 26 is the top priority for the CECPC.

He vowed that the committee would continue to execute its assignments, pending the return of the chairman whom he said was on his way back to the country.

“The Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) hereby restates absolute loyalty to the APC, thanks the national organs and leadership of our party led by His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, and reassures our members and citizens that the party is stronger than ever before and poised to extend her winning streak since 2015 into 2023 and beyond,” the CECPC secretary said.

A former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has intimated members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) of his presidential ambition, saying the party might not survive another eight years as an opposition party.

Atiku, who spoke when he hosted the BoT members during a consultative meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, asked the elders of the party to work with him to clinch the presidency in 2023.

He also noted that the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, where he served as the vice president, still remained best since 1999.

“I am worried and you should be worried too that if we do not win, it means we will be in opposition again for the next eight years.

“By the next eight years, I don’t know how many of us will be left in politics and it may even ultimately lead to the death of the party because people gravitate, particularly in developing countries, towards governments.

“So this is a very crucial and historical moment in history, for our survival,” he said.

Speaking on the vexed issue of zoning, Atiku asked members of the PDP not to be asking for zoning just because APC has zoned their positions.

“We invented and formulated this zoning policy simply because we wanted every part of this country to have a sense of belonging and I personally have paid my dues on the issue of zoning.

“Therefore, you cannot come and try to imply that the PDP has not been following the zoning policy. The many years of PDP government eight years and six years all of them were from the south.

“So we should not be stampeded by the opposition party. They have a moral obligation,” he said.

Meanwhile, an uneasy calm has pervaded the main PDP over the inability of the party to hold its scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting yesterday.

Ahead of the NEC meeting, the National Caucus of the party met at the Akwa Ibom Governor’s lodge in Asokoro, Abuja on Monday night.

But the body language of some members of the party that attended the gathering showed all was not well going into the NEC meeting on Tuesday.

So it was not surprising that the spokesman of the party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, told journalists that all the meetings of the different organs of the party slated for Tuesday have been shifted to Wednesday.

Daily Trust gathered that forces for and against zoning of the presidential ticket of the party are at each other’s throats on whether the party should maintain its earlier stand that the contest should be left open or zoned to one part of the party.

After meeting for close to two hours, the National Publicity Secretary Ologunagba disclosed that the caucus meeting had been adjourned to Wednesday, and the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees meeting earlier scheduled for Tuesday to discuss important issues would also hold on Wednesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday condoled with the government and people of Zambia over the passing of former President Rupiah Bwezani Banda, 85.

Buhari, in a statement by his media aide, Garba Shehu, commiserated with the President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, over the loss.

He urged approximation of the footprints of the former leader who started his service as a career diplomat, vice president, acting president, before leading the country from 2008 to 2011.

Buhari noted the stewardship and statesmanship of Banda handed over power in 2011 and guided a peaceful transition in the country in 2021.

Mr Felix Ofulue, Mr Felix Ofulue, Head, Corporate Communications, Ikeja Electric Plc, confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) also confirmed the partial collapse of the grid in a public notice.

The electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) said the collapse of the grid occurred at 5.10 p.m on Tuesday.

They said the collapse had disrupted power supply within their networks with their customers experiencing blackouts.

“Dear esteemed customers, we would like to inform you of another system collapse on the national grid which occurred at 5:10 p.m today (Tuesday).

“We are monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates.

Once again we apologise for the inconvenience,” Eko DisCo said in a statement.

On his part, Ofulue said Ikeja Electric had received notification of the collapse and was waiting for the grid to be restored.

NAN reports that the collapse is happening barely 48 hours after the national grid collapsed at 10.40 a.m on Monday resulting in blackouts in some parts of the country.

Supply was, however, restored to the grid at 12.20 p.m by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
