Sanctions against Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has put Tuchel’s future in doubt, but he has rubbished talk of an exit from the European champions.

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on happenings around Stamford Bridge amid their manager search.

Sources said Tuchel is the club’s favourite candidate and they want the appointment in place before the end of the current campaign.

The report adds that Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag’s recent Champions League eliminations with Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax respectively have seen Tuchel move up the list, and there is “genuine hope” that Man United can convince the ex-Borussia Dortmund coach to take over from Ralf Rangnick.

Tuchel is under contract at Chelsea until 2024 and broke a Champions League record with his side’s 2-1 last-16 second leg victory against Lille on Wednesday.

In a statement on Thursday, the Media Aide to Soludo, Joe Anatune, said the breach was caused by improper communication which arose from a personal issue between the two parties involved.

According to him, the breach which disrupted proceedings at the event happened after the wife of the former governor, Ebelechukwu Obiano, approached Mrs Bianca Ojukwu and muttered some words that led to fisticuffs.

“Sadly, the fight took the shine off the main event of the day,” the statement read in part.

Soludo said steps were being taken to resolve the misunderstanding and restore the parties to their previous relationship.

“Anambra State has over the years been known for a huge stock of social harmony, and the stock will increase substantially in the years ahead as part of the concerted effort to accelerate the state’s development,” he added

President Biden Will Speak With China's President on Friday About Russia's Invasion to Ukraine - Jen Psaki

US President Joe Biden will speak with China’s Xi Jinping on Friday about “managing the competition between our two countries as well as Russia’s war against Ukraine and other issues of mutual concern,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement Thursday.

“This is part of our ongoing efforts to maintain open lines of communication between the United States and the PRC,” Psaki said.

More context: A Western official and a US diplomat said that the US has information suggesting China has expressed some openness to providing Russia with requested military and financial assistance as part of its war on Ukraine.

It is not yet clear whether China intends to provide Russia with that assistance, US officials familiar with the intelligence said. But during an intense, seven-hour meeting in Rome, a top aide to Biden warned his Chinese counterpart of “potential implications and consequences” for China should support for Russia be forthcoming, a senior administration official said.

Biden and Xi’s last known conversation took place in November during a three-and-a-half hour virtual summit. The highly anticipated summit yielded no major breakthroughs — though none were expected ahead of time — and officials dismissed the notion the summit was intended to ease what has become an increasingly tense relationship.

Ex-Air Force Chief, Mohammed Umar Not Guilty Of N66 Million Fraud, Court Rules

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court in Abuja has discharged and acquitted a former Chief of Air Staff, Mohammed Umar, guilty of diverting N66 million from the account of the Nigerian Air Force.

The retired Air chief marshal battled one count of money laundering involving N66 million allegedly cornered from the account of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) during his time as the Chief of Air staff between 2010 and 2012.

Delivering judgement on the judge held that there was nothing in the evidence of the prosecution linking Mr Umar to instructing the transfer of the said funds for the renovation of his private property in Abuja.

Mr Dimgba said it would be dangerous to speculate on a wild assumption that Mr Umar must be aware of every financial transaction from the Nigeria Air Force bank account.

Ruling on the propriety of the evidence led by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in February 2021, the judge dismissed six out of the seven charges initially lodged against Mr Umar by the anti-graft agency.

However, the judge ordered the former Air chief to refund the sum of N57 million to the Nigeria Air Force within seven working days.

The said funds was the actual amount used in refurbishing Mr Umar’s private property at Asokoro area of Abuja.

The Blues are undergoing significant turmoil following UK government sanctions against owner Roman Abramovich.

With the club likely to be sold in the coming weeks or months, the players are getting on with their jobs, as evidenced by progression to the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Lille on Wednesday.

Speaking post-game to BT Sport, captain Azpi stated: “It has not been a normal last few weeks but we have to do what is in our hands, which is train the best we can. Tonight it was a difficult game and of course we are happy to go through.”

“I just put a leg and it went with my knee! I am not very used to scoring goals.”

“In the first half we didn’t start very well, we knew it would be difficult, sometimes we played in the spaces and made a few mistakes the reaction was good, we scored before half-time. If you go 1-0 down into half-time the second half would be difficult.”

“This group fights against everything, we know we have to do the best we can on the pitch, we stick together and hopefully end up having a very good season.”

“Sometimes it may be easier to lose focus, but that is not us, we have to keep playing every three days difficult games.”

FA Cup: Playing Without Fans Against Middlesbrough Not The Best For Chelsea –Tuchel

On Tuesday, the Blues asked the FA for the fixture to go ahead without fans ‘for matters of sporting integrity’ after they were not allowed to sell any more away tickets for the match due to the sanctions placed on owner Roman Abramovich.

However, they withdrew their appeal just hours later following talks with the governing body and amid backlash from Boro.

Tuchel was asked about the request after Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Lille on Wednesday night and sought to distance himself from the saga.

“Let me put it like this,” he said. “We love to play in front of spectators and I don’t think our opponents should suffer from the consequences.”

“It was not the very best idea. Me and the team were not involved in this decision.”

Court Slams Student 4 Months Imprisonment For Stealing Spaghetti, Indomie In Abuja

0

An Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja, on Thursday, sentenced a 19-year-old student, Hillary Yunana to four months imprisonment for stealing spaghetti and indomie from a shop.

The convict, a resident of Bassa village, along airport road, Abuja, was charged with housebreaking and theft.

In his ruling, the Judge, Sani Umar, sentenced Yunana after he pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the court for leniency.

Umar, however, gave the convict an option to pay N10, 000 for each of the offences or serve a jail term of two months each for the offences.

He said that the jail term would run concurrently and warned him to desist from committing crime in the future.

The judge said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to anyone that wants to toe that path in the future.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Abudulahi Tanko, told the court the convict broke and entered the shop of Gift Ugochukwu, of the same address on March 4.

Tanko said that the convict stole seven pieces of spaghetti, five pieces of indomie and a cash sum of N10,000, all valued at N13,000.

He said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 346 and 287 of the Penal Code.
