The Department of State Security Services, DSS, has denied reports that its personnel attacked and killed a baker in Enugu.

DSS Operatives Allegedly Shoot Baker Dead In Enugu

The report which was published by a news medium, Punch, alleged that a young female baker, identified as Chinenye Opah, a native of Mgbowo in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, was killed by operatives of the security agency last Friday.

However, in a swift response, the spokesperson of the service, Dr. Peter Afunanya (Phd) described the report as fake.

“This is not true. It is completely misleading information. It is very surprising Punch could engage in spread of fake news peddled by idlers.”

“The other time Punch reported that DSS staff shot a soldier in Lagos. Till now, it has not been reported to the Service that any of its staff shot anyone in Lagos or elsewhere.”

“Punch can do better to verify its stories in line with the ethics of journalism or ask the simple questions as to who, where, when, why, what, and how. This is a given in primary or foundational journalism.”

“Then there is need for a balance and objectivity which Punch could have gotten by reaching out to the Service.”

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Shina Abiola Peller has described former Vice President, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku as an enemy of Nigeria.

2023: You're An Enemy Of Nigeria – APC Lawmaker, Peller Blasts Atiku

Peller, who represents Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency, in Oyo State, made this disclosure on Monday.

Atiku is one of the leading figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) jostling to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

ABN TV recalls that Atiku had last week purchased his expression of interest form to contest the 2023 Presidency on the platform of PDP.

Peller, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has, however, described Atiku as an enemy of Nigeria.

He said that Atiku is a typical Nigerian politician who is ready to twist the fact.

He alleged that the former Vice President is ready to manipulate and mislead the people in order to satisfy his presidential ambition.

The lawmaker in a statement made available to ABN TV on Monday, through his Press Secretary, Kola Popoola said that Atiku was making a deliberate attempt to mislead the people for selfish political reasons.

He said, “Going by his recent utterances, Alhaji Atiku has just proven to us again that he is one of the typical Nigerian politicians who is ever ready to manipulate the people, twist the fact and mislead people to satisfy their political interest, even if it means at the detriment of unity, peace and progress of our dear country.

“For me, I strongly believe that only an enemy of Nigeria will want to keep power in the North as far as 2023 is concerned.

“The South is bleeding: Yorubas are agitating for Oduduwa Nation; the Igbos are agitating for Biafra, a clear indication that these groups feel marginalized, while the Northerners have retained the position of the President for eight years (2 uninterrupted terms of 4 years). In the interest of peace, it is only fair that the South should produce the next Nigerian President”.

The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has asked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to drop his presidential ambition to uphold the unity of the Nigerian nation.

The Igbo group warned that if the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, hands the former Vice President its 2023 presidential ticket, it would cause a total disintegration of Nigeria.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, Imo State capital, the National President of Ohanaeze Youth Council, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, said the council frowns at what he described as “the undue desperation of Atiku Abubakar to pick the presidential ticket of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.”

The Igbo youth group said, “If PDP denies a southeasterner Presidential ticket, the only thing over 50 million Igbo youths must ensure is to keep Nigeria one by massively voting APC presidential candidate from the southeast, and no PDP office/flag from ward level to state level will stand erect in the southeast. We’ll fight PDP like Yakubu Gowon did to keep Nigeria one.

According to the council, “Atiku Abubakar should go to the history line of PDP formation from G34 led by Dr Alex Ekwueme before it became a political party, to ascertain that the southeast has paid the ultimate sacrifice in PDP more than any other zone in Nigeria.”

Speaking further, the group reiterated that southeastern people had contributed to the formation, building, as well as sustaining PDP as the biggest party in Africa.

“Atiku Abubakar’s call to contest in PDP is a call to interrupt the Unity and Peace in Nigeria and such move will lead to National political disaster, anarchy, and tribal crises that will sink Nigeria.

“If PDP denies a southeasterner Presidential ticket, the only thing over 50 million Igbo youths must ensure is to keep Nigeria one by massively voting APC Presidential candidate from Southeast, and no PDP office/flag from ward level to state level will stand erect in Southeast. We’ll fight PDP like Yakubu Gowon did to keep Nigeria one.

“PDP must avoid using Atiku Abubakar, Aminu Tambuwal and other selfish presidential Aspirants that are not from Southeast to disintegrate or cause Nigeria her national unity,” Igboayaka maintained.

“It’s derogatory that Atiku Abubakar boasted how he used Ben Obi and Peter Obi as running mates. Atiku Abubakar should know that if any Nigerian desires to see Nigeria as the ‘Giant of Africa’ as proposed by Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik of Africa), then it’s high time he dropped his presidential ambition and support a credible and competent presidential aspirant from Southeast to build the Nigeria of Zik vision,” he stated.

“Atiku Abubakar must awaken his human consciousness and realize that among the Six geo-political Zone in Nigeria, Southeast gave him the overwhelming highest vote, which led the present administration of President Mohammadu Buhari to nick-name Southeastern people 5%. Therefore, it is historical that Atiku Abubakar and PDP family is owing the southeastern people reciprocation gratitude in the 2023 presidential

Fuel Crisis May Result In Protest Worse Than #EndSARS – PDP Warns Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party has warned President Muhammadu Buhari that the present fuel crisis in the country might snowball into nationwide protests worse than the October 2020 #EndSARS protests.

Fuel Crisis May Result In Protest Worse Than #EndSARS - PDP Warns Buhari

The party issued the warning in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Sunday.

The party accused Buhari of “kneeling on the necks of Nigerians”.

It said: “There is a limit to what the people can bear under an administration that remains insensitive to their plights.

“President Buhari needs to be reminded of his duty to Nigerians, to in the least, show some empathy, competence, and concern as our country rapidly drifts towards a looming precipice.

“The frustration in the country is already degenerating into a nationwide restiveness that may result in the breakdown of law and order if allowed to fester.

“With petrol now selling between N400 and N500 per litre, diesel at over N800 per litre, kerosene at over N750 and aviation fuel at N670 per litre, millions of businesses, employment and sources of livelihood have collapsed in both urban and rural areas, resulting in acute hardship and widespread social tension across the country.

“Our party fears that the situation is getting to a boiling point and can trigger a nationwide agitation that might be worse than the October 2020 #EndSARS protests if not addressed immediately.”

The PDP accused President Buhari of abdicating his duties and being “aloof” and “absent” at a time the country battles “a collapsed national grid, protracted fuel crisis, distressed aviation sector, plummeting currency, crippled production and commercial activities.

“It is often said that when a government abdicated its responsibility to the citizens at whose pleasure it should serve, then that government is complicit in the suffering of its people and a beneficiary of their woes.

“If President Buhari could personally communicate on issues that concern his party, the APC, while in England, it is inconceivable that he failed and neglected, as always, to attend to life discounting experiences and pains encountered by Nigerians daily by the thoughtless and inhumane policies of his government.”

Experienced striker, Jordan Ayew will reportedly miss Ghana’s first-leg meeting with Nigeria in the playoff round of the qualifiers to the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament.

The Black Stars will take on its age-old rivals in a two-legged tie in the final round of the African qualifiers for this year’s global tournament.

At a time when Ghana is not having the strongest squad, it had hoped to have the services of experienced
players to fight to overcome Nigeria.
With just five days to the first leg of the game against the Super Eagles, Ghana striker Jordan Ayew has tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

As a result, he is forced to isolate himself at his base in England where he plays for Crystal Palace.

While it is unclear when he could recover and test negative for COVID-19, Ghana must assume he will miss the first leg of the Nigeria clash and plan accordingly.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out applications by Governor Dave Umahi, his deputy Kelechi Igwe and the 16 lawmakers seeking a stay of execution of their sack.

Justice Inyang Ekwo on Monday struck out the applications after the applicants withdrew the applications.

“Upon being informed that records of appeal have been transmitted, and application to withdraw of stay of execution, the application is hereby struck out,” he said.

The court had on March 8 removed the officials over their defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

But the parties on March 11 applied for a stay of execution at the high court and a notice of appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

Earlier, counsel to Umahi, Chukwuma Machukwu Ume (SAN) had the motion to withdraw the application for stay of execution was no longer necessary as the records had already been transmitted to the Court of Appeal.

Counsel to the PDP, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN) did not oppose the application but asked the court to dismiss the applications instead.
