2023: Kwankwaso Reveals His Fears Of Presidential Election

Former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has urged Nigerians, especially the youths, to join the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to restore Nigeria and provide the fresh air desired by citizens.

Kwankwaso made the call at the national convention of the party in Abuja, saying the NNPP is well placed to restore the nation to its former glory and greater heights.

Some of the executives are national chairman, Prof. Rufai Alkali from Gombe; deputy national chairman , retired AVM John Ifemeje (Anambra); National Secretary, Mr Dipo Olayoku (Ogun) and national oganising secretary ,Sulieman Hunkuyi (Kaduna).

Others are deputy national secretary, Dr Ahmed Ajuji, Adamawa; national treasurer; Alhaji Sanin Malam- Bauchi; national legal adviser, Prof. Bem Angwe – Benue, among others.

The former governor (Kwankwaso) called on youths to join the party where they would be guaranteed jobs, quality education without strike, among others.

He urged the youth to register with the party and with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to get their voter cards and vote for the party in 2023.

Kwankwaso said if this was done, all the present challenges being witnessed would be a forgotten issue.

“This party is all about correcting the mistakes of the past and with your support we will achieve a better Nigeria.

“NNPP will soon be the number one force in the country,” he said.

He also urged the party’s delegates to go back to their various states and local governments to mobilise people for the NNPP.

“The nation has been experiencing low voter turnout in elections because people are tired of the existing parties.

“This NNPP is fresh air for Nigerians because citizens are looking for a new and better Nigeria since they are tired of the status quo.

“Most of our members could not come for the convention because of the insecurity on our roads; but I promise you with NNPP all will be good.”

The national chairman of the party, Prof Rufai Alkali from Gombe State said that the establishment of the party was the beginning of the journey to a new dawn for Nigerians.

Alkali said that NNPP would do its best to ensure the development of Nigeria to a higher level on every side.

“Nigerians are tired and are therefore looking for a better option, we are that new option and we shall do our best to ensure that everybody is carried along.

“However, you have to play your part by registering with INEC to get your voter cards and coming out to vote during elections. “

The party adopted a consensus model for its convention and therefore came up with 30 executives of the party.

Police Arrest Suspected 100-Year-Old Female Ritualist, Two Others For Plucking Eye Of 12-Year-Old Boy In Kano

The police in Kano State have arrested a 100-year-old suspected female ritualist, Furera Abubakar, and two others, for allegedly plucking out the right eye of a 12-year-old boy, Mustapha Yunusa.

The other suspects are Isah Hassan (17) and Sani Abdulrahman (16).

The Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement on Thursday, said the Almajiri boy was lured into a corner where his assailants removed his left eyeball on the orders of the woman.

The eyeball was to be used in preparing an “appear and disappear” charm.

The statement read, “On March 20, 2022, a report was received from a resident of Sheka Dantsinke Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano State, that an unknown person took one Mustapha Yunusa (12) to Rimin Hamza Quarters, Tarauni LGA, Kano State, used a sharp knife and removed his right eyeball and fled with it to an unknown destination.

“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, raised and instructed a team of Operation Puff Adder led by CSP Alfa N. Muhammad, Divisional Police Officer, Sheka, to proceed to the scene.

“The team immediately went to the scene and rushed the victim to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where a medical doctor confirmed that the eyeball of the victim was forcefully removed with a sharp object, and the victim was admitted to the said hospital.

“Sustained efforts coupled with prolonged intelligence follow-ups led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Isah Hassan (17), with the help of a local vigilante on March 29, 2022.

“On investigation, the suspect confessed that he met his friend, Sani Abdulrahman (16), and asked him where he could get a charm that would make him disappear whenever he wanted.

“Sani directed him to his aged grandmother of 100 years old, Furera Abubakar. The principal suspect further confessed that he met Furera and she instructed him to bring the eyeball of a human being to her so that she could prepare the charm for him.

“He went and deceived a street beggar (Almajiri), lured him to a nearby bush, tied his hands and forcefully used a sharp knife and plucked out his right eyeball. He took the eyeball to Furera and she told him to bring N500.

“As he did not have the money, Furera told him to keep it in a safe place and bring it when he had the money.

“He kept it for three days. Later, he discovered that the eyeball had decayed and he threw it away. Furera was subsequently arrested.”

Ajaokuta Steel Company Will Not Be Revived Under Buhari Administration Because Of Russia-Ukraine War — Minister

0

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr Olamilekan Adegbite on Thursday admitted that the Federal Government will not be able to deliver on its promise to revive the Ajaokuta steel rolling mill before the end of the current administration in 2023.

He made the admission while fielding question from State House correspondents during the 34th session of the State House briefing held at the State House in Abuja.

According to Adegbite, the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war were major unplanned events that scuttled the project’s revitalisation.

“Where we are today, we may not be able to get Ajaokuta to work but I pray that we can start something permanent,” he said.

“I’ve said it before. When we came back from Russia, yes, I went to the public and said, ‘look we will deliver Ajaokuta before the end of this tenure’. And I pray that I’ll have a chance to go back and apologise and explain what happened to the people before I leave office.

“It is due to no fault of ours. Everybody was ready to go, but unfortunately, COVID came in. So, it is a force majeure.”

In 2020, the Minister had said the Ajaokuta Steel Mill was 90 percent complete and may be functional by early 2023.

The development of the steel mill was started in the 1970s but has evaded completion several decades after.

The current revitalisation plan for the steel mill was kick-started in October 2019, when a Nigerian delegation, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, attended the Russia-Africa summit in Sochi, Russia.

In Sochi, President Buhari invited the Russians to help complete the steel mill on a Build-Operate-Transfer model, Adegbite said.

The Russians agreed and were set to arrive in Nigeria in March 2020, with the project to last for about two years.

However, the coronavirus pandemic threw a spanner into the wheels as the countries closed their borders to halt the virus and the Russians were unable to fly into Nigeria for an on-site audit.

Ex-Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; Governor Aminu Tambuwal; former governor Peter Obi, are among the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirants, who have said nomination forms were bought for them.

Speaking in Lagos during a colloquium with the theme, “The African Christian Leadership: Radical Transformation in Unsettled Times” to mark the 61st birthday of Pastor Itua Ighodalo, Obasanjo said Nigeria’s problem is entirely about leadership.

He said the constitution, which many have attributed Nigeria’s challenges to, was crafted by the military that gathered the best brains in the land at that time to draft it.

“Today, they are paying N40m. Some of them (aspirants) even said it is some youths who bought it for them. In fact anybody who would come out to tell you such a lie, you shouldn’t vote for him. Which youths gathered N40m? If you want to buy it, buy it and tell us. You don’t need to lie to us.”

The former President said the problems confronting Nigeria at the moment can only be surmounted by good leadership, noting that Nigeria needed a change of leadership.

“If you say, ‘what is wrong with Nigeria’, leadership. If you say, ‘what do you have to do about Nigeria’, leadership. If you say, ‘where are we taking Nigeria? Leadership.’

He insisted that Nigeria can gather the best constitutions in the world, if those who would implement were not people with the right attitude and orientation, nothing can be achieved.
