In the year 2001, I was just in Jss1 and my grandma who was in her early 70s was so fond of me. One day, we (I and my grand mother) were returning from one of our farms located behind Abia State customary court of appeal, we were trekking home through Secretariat road.

I was carrying a medium size basin on my head while my grandma had a small load on her head too. Still on our way home, at the point where we now have the Abia State branch of central bank, a sophisticated convoy of some police vans, 504 and 406 Peugeot saloon cars, Pathfinder jeeps and few other luxury cars drove past us and stopped. I almost fainted when the convoy stopped because as I usually did, I waved at the convoy while it was approaching. As we got close to the parked convoy, a tall, dark and handsome young man came down from the convoy, greeted my grandma in the Igbo way and told her that the governor wants to talk to her. My grandma knew what a privilege it is to meet with the governor so, her attempts to coordinate and comport herself became quite visible. I didnt know much about meeting a governor, but my instinct still informed me that what was going on was no ordinary encounter, so I marched with my grandma as the handsome man led us to one of the jeeps which was the fifth vehicle in the convoy.

As we got to the Jeep, the back windscreen wined down and behold, it was the handsome face of His Excellency Gov. Orji Uzor kalu whom I had seen severally on news papers and television programs. He greeted my grandma in native tongue and instructed the man who led us to his vehicle to take down the load on my grandma’s head, I didn’t wait for the man to take down the basin on my head as I wanted to impress occupants of the convoy, so I dropped down the basin by myself.

Gov. Orji Uzor kalu asked my grandma why she was carrying a load on her head and trekking under the hot sun and my grandma told him that her son( my dad) was supposed to come and take us home with his motorbike but maybe something came up at their office so, we could not wait for him any longer. Gov. Orji Uzor kalu immediately whispered to the tall man who carried our loads into one of the vans, and he said to my grandma in Igbo language, please Ma join our convoy so that we give you and your grandson a lift.

We joined the convoy and they brought us to the point known today as Rapha Hotel junction, it is a stone throw to our house but wasn’t motorable as at then. My grandma asked that they stoped us there since we were almost home and they did. To my grandma’s surprise, Gov. Orji Uzor kalu gave us a cash gift of #50,000( which is the equivalence of #500,000 today) and asked my grandma to always put Abia State in her prayers… .

my grandma was so happy that she prayed on the spot for the young governor. She prayed for God’s protection and wisdom on the governor after which Gov. Orji Uzor kalu stepped down from his vehicle and hugged my grandma not minding that he was putting on a sparkling white native suite while my grandma on the other hand was wearing her farm clothes.

He also shook hands with me before going back into his vehicle and the convoy drove off. As a child I didn’t really understand the significance of the event of that day, but as time went by and i continued to grow in knowledge, I began to understand what a humble, sincere, considerate, committed and benevolent person Dr. Orji Uzor kalu is, then I started to fall deeply in love with him.

The memory of that event has been ever green in my memory, and my love for Dr. Orji Uzor kalu has continued to grow stronger.

I have loved Dr. Orji Uzor kalu so much that when politicians of today try to pay me to support them against the interest of Dr. Orji Uzor kalu, I always reply them that Dr. Orji Uzor kalu had already bribed me with something they cannot give… . Yes, OUK bribed me with his humility and sincerity.

IPOB Agitation: Soludo Coming With Solution, Says Udensi As He Carpets South East Governors For Inaction

Interpol Systems Consultant, Sir Chikwe Udensi has commended the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo for coming up with solutions that will bring to an end secessionist agitations in the South East region spearheaded by the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB.

He described Soludo who was recently sworn in as governor to succeed former Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra as a good leader with a positive attitude.

Featuring on a radio programme, Open Parliament on Love FM Umuahia on Wednesday, steamed live by ABN TV and  Radio, Sir Udensi a governorship aspirant in Abia State on the platform of APGA took a swipe at the the Governors of South East for not showing as much concern as Prof. Soludo has shown when the problems started, noting that the challenges festered as a result of their inaction.

He commended the governor for reaching out to every stakeholder, including political, traditional, religious leaders, market women and youths in efforts to end the agitation and its economic consequences in the region, particularly the killings and the weekly sit-at-home.

He said instead of South East Governors to act to ensure that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB was released, he accused them of proscribing the group, a move he said was a step in the wrong direction.

Soludo had pledged to lead South East Governors for the negotiations for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, currently in DSS detention facility in Abuja.

In addition, he also said the sit-at-home imposed by IPOB every Monday in solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu will not be observed in Anambra.

While commending the governor of Anambra for the move, Sir Udensi said it has become difficult to identify who the real agitators are, noting that criminals, social misfits, and hooligans have hijacked the agitation in the region.

He said, “There is incessant killings, kidnappings and all sorts of criminal behaviours and everything is attributed to IPOB.

“It may not necessarily be IPOB that is doing all that, so there is need to differentiate the real agitators from criminals so you can see what the governor did.”

Sir Udensi expressed concern as to whether the rest of the South East Governors will support Soludo in his move to ensure that Nnamdi Kanu is released to pave way for peace.

He said peace may not take place provided Nnamdi Kanu remains in detention, urging the Federal government to immediately act to release the IPOB leader for a thorough national healing.

He also called for the release of all prisoners of conscience, commending the moves by Gov. Soludo.

2023 Election: APC Cancels Nomination Fees For Female Aspirants

Ahead of next year’s general election, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC has granted a financial waiver to all female aspirants on its platform, expressing greater commitment to gender mainstreaming.

The landmark decision puts to end the frustration often faced by female aspirants, most of who found it difficult to cough out the required 50 per cent of nominations fees paid by their male counterparts.

National Woman Leader of the party, Dr Beta Edu who disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja, said the decision was approved by Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee NWC.

She said; “I have the blessings of the chairman to announce to Nigerian women that APC has provided a platform for them to run.

“The chairman promised to mainstream women, to give us a seat at the table, to give us a potent voice to contribute our quota to national development. President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife have led the way in mainstreaming women.

“The party has gone ahead to approve that women will be running with free nomination forms.

The party has thrown the ball to our court. Before now we had women saying they could not afford the form. Now you have been given the highest platform with the greatest chance of emerging as winners of elections because you will be running on the ticket of a ruling party that has performed. Now the ball is in your court. Women should stand up and contest. We must be actively involved in the processes leading to the 2023 general election. We must register as voters and go door to door to remind women and others to register”.

Meanwhile, a presidential aspirant in the APC, Mr Ihechukwu Dallas Chima has said after 23 years of the current democratic experience, Nigerians now need a leader with creative intelligence in the face of dwindling global economic fortunes.

Chima gave the charge on Thursday at the launch of an N6 billion campaign fund to support his aspiration.

Chima while speaking at the event Abuja said his decision to contest the presidency was to achieve a purpose that would define the existence of the country.

He stressed that since the return of democracy in 1999, leaders who aspire to the office of the president had always been at the forefront of selling their political resumes, yet they’ve not been able to solve Nigeria’s developmental and security challenges.

Chima said: “This is 2022, 23 years of uninterrupted democracy, what results have been achieved by persons with political experience or political office resume. Leaders with political experience are not dynamic, they recycle teams because of their lack of dynamism, they rely on people with archaic knowledge to solve new but complex problems.

“Nigerians must come to the understanding that the challenges we face as a nation are beyond political experience or political office resume. All those presidential aspirants who brandish their political office resume to the press to gag the Nigerian electorate and featherweight presidential aspirants…will be overwhelmed by the challenges of this country. They can’t take the heat because they don’t have the mental resources to be dynamic in leadership.”

The presidential hopeful said under his leadership, he would establish through an Act of Parliament National Health Sector Development Fund which he said would be funded by 3% national income, 1.5% profit before tax of private sector contribution, 2% tax of all funds to be spent on medical tourism by privileged Nigerians.

Chima noted: “It is time for Nigeria to be led by a leader with creative intelligence; the time is now. Ihechukwu Dallas Chima (IDC) Presidential Campaign Organisation inauguration is today, we have come up with a campaign budget of N6 billion to fund the entire process. We are confident that IDC will win the firth coming presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

PDP Extends Sale Of Forms For All Offices Again, Fixes New Dates For Screening, Appeals

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has extended the sale of nomination forms for all offices from the initial deadline April 8, 2022 to April 14th.

This is the second time the opposition party is shifting the sales of her expression of interest and nomination forms after fixing April 1, 2022 as the first deadline.

In a notice sighted by ABN TV, the last date of submission of forms is now 17th of April.

Screening Exercises for the State House of Assembly will now take place on the 19th of April; National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives) is rescheduled to April 20th 2022, while the screening governorship aspirants was also moved to April 21st.

The presidential screening will be on the 25th of April and appeal emanating from the screening will be entertained on the 27th of April.

Appeals for State House of Assembly, National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives) and governorship will be on the 21, 22 and 26th respectively.

The PDP had pegged forms for State House of Assembly Expression of Interest: N100,000; Nomination Form, N500,000. House of Representatives: Expression of Interest, N500,000; Nomination Form, N2,000,000.

Senate: Expression of Interest, N500,000; Nomination Form, N3,000,000. Governorship: Expression of Interest, N1,000,000; Nomination Form, 20,000,000.

President: Expression of Interest, N5,000,000; Nomination Form, N35,000,000.

Leke Adeboye, the Senior Personal Assistant of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has finally apologised to pastors in the church for referring to them as ‘goats’.

It would be recalled that Leke rebuked some RCCG pastors who preached after his father’s sermon last Sunday in parishes across the nation.

The cleric’s son apologised on Thursday on his Instagram page over the statement, which generated a lot of backlashes from followers and church members.

The statement titled: ‘My sincere apology’ reads: “I wish to use this medium to tender my unreserved apologies on the statement made from my social media handle about some of our esteemed Pastors.

“The disciplinary measures taken by the mission is well received and this period will be used to reflect and introspect.

“I wish to crave your indulgence to please forgive my extreme statement which I wish to emphasise was absolutely not intended to insult or malign.

“I also wish to apologise profusely to the entire leadership and Pastors of our beloved Church who might have been hurt by this statement.

“I remain humbly yours in God’s love and mercies. Yours in His service, Leke Adeboye.”

Some contractors who executed road projects in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers States have alleged that they are being owed by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The contractors, who identified themselves as members of NNDC Contractors have also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Minister of Niger Delta, God’swill Akpabio and the administrator of the NDDC, Mr. Akwa Effiong over massive corruption in the NDDC.

Speaking on Thursday at a media briefing held in Abuja, Mr. Johnson Sekibo spokesman of the group, said they would resume their protest across the Niger Delta region and Abuja if they are not paid by May 1.

Sekibo said the non-payment of the debt has left many of the contractors in “acute penury and poverty”, because most of them had to borrow money at high interest rate to execute contracts for the commission.

“We are calling on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, to urgently investigate the activities of the interim administrator of the NDDC, Mr. Akwa Effiong and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, God’swill Akpabio, and possibly sack the duo for supervising massive corruption in the NDDC.

“We shall continue to request the NDDC to pay for services rendered creditably as competent and performing contractors of the NDDC, while frowning at situation where contractors will not be mobilised by the NDDC to execute projects, a situation where the contractors will borrow money from banks at high interest rates to execute projects, yet will be owed for five years and more without payment.

“We are in pains and describe the activities of the interim administrator of the NDDC, Akwa Effiong, and the minister of Niger Delta affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, as discouraging, devilish and an act of wickedness, noting that their action does not represent what Mr President stands for.

“Today, the duo of Akpabio and Akwa are not paying road contractors that executed visible projects but they are paying people that didn’t execute projects in the name of sand filling just to loot the resources of the Commission to fund the presidential ambition of Senator God’swill Akpabio,” the group said.

The Federal High Court (FHC) sitting in Abuja on Thursday delivered a judgement in favour of Cross River Governor, Prof Ben Ayade; and his deputy, Prof Ivara Esu, in respect of their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

ABN TV reports that Ayade won on principle of stare decisis. Stare decisis is the doctrine that courts will adhere to precedent in making their decisions. The Judge also held that the court cannot remove a governor sworn-in on the basis of defection.

The Judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, came in at exactly 2:15 pm. After the introduction of appearance for the PDP and others, reading of judgement commenced.

The court was full to capacity. Present in court were two governorship aspirants, Barrister Chris Agara and Arc Edem Duke; APC Cross River State Chairman Alphonsus Ogar Eba; Rt Hon Mike Etaba; Senator Stephen Odey; and Cross River State Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice, Barr Tanko Ashang.

Also present were Barr Pius Onigah, Comrade Nchor Kingsley, Christopher Ogar, Bukie Okangbe, Kalita Joe Aruku, among others.

2014 Immigration Recruitment Tragedy: Abba Moro Has No Case To Answer — Court

A Federal High Court in Abuja has discharged and acquitted Senator Abba Moro and two others in charges of fraud over the 2014 Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment exercise.

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba on Thursday held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) failed to establish the allegation of procurement fraud against the defendants.

Moro, who was Minister of Interior at the time. arraigned alongside former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia; an ex-director in the ministry, Felix Alayebami and a firm, Drexel Tech Nigeria Ltd, which was acquitted and discharged in 2021.

They were accused of conspiracy, fraud and money laundering in the recruitment exercise which ended in tragedy with over 14 deaths caused by a stampede in some states.

Justice Dimgba dismissed the allegation of abuse of office against Moro over inadequate arrangement and safeguards for the exercise after 667, 000 applicants paid N1, 000 each.

He said the NIS CG testified that there was inadequate funding for the exercise, while also failing to directly take charge of the exercise.

“I believe some flak must be reserved for the PW1 (David Paradang), who was the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service,” he said.

Evaluating the submissions of the prosecution, Justice Dimgba said the Drexel’s proposal to conduct an e-recruitment was in national security interest due to allegations of nepotism and jobs racketeering in the previous exercises.

He said the prosecution failed to show that the failure to advertise the contract gave undue advantage to the company, Drexel.

However, the judge convicted Nwobia on one of the counts of the charges, but adjourned sentencing to April 27 in accordance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
