Chelsea’s reign as European champions came to an agonising end despite beating Real Madrid on a night of high drama at the Bernabeu Stadium.

In a Champions League epic, Mason Mount’s wonderful finish and Antonio Rudiger’s powerful header wiped out Real’s 3-1 first-leg advantage and brought the quarter-final tie level in Spain’s capital.

Thomas Tuchel’s side were outstanding throughout and Timo Werner’s clever finish from an angle put them ahead for the first time on aggregate and within sight of a place in the semi-finals.

But substitute Rodrygo forced extra time with a volleyed finish before Karim Benzema, hat-trick hero in the first leg at Stamford Bridge six days ago, headed the decisive goal in the 96th minute to send Real through 5-4 on aggregate.

Benzema, who had earlier headed against the bar on a rollercoaster night, was unmarked when he scored to break Chelsea’s hearts after Rudiger slipped inside the box.

In the end Chelsea, who played superbly, were made to pay for their first-leg performance as Tuchel’s side just fell short of producing one of the great comebacks in the competition.

Villarreal dumped Bayern Munich out of the Champions League on Wednesday, Samuel Chukwueze’s 88th-minute strike at the Allianz Arena giving the Spaniards a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their quarter-final tie that took them through 2-1 on aggregate.

Robert Lewandowski had put Bayern ahead on the night to level the tie on aggregate, and extra time loomed until Chukwueze struck.

It is the second time that Villarreal have reached the Champions League semi-finals after they lost in the last four to Arsenal in 2006. They will play either Liverpool or Benfica.

Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late gospel music star, Osinachi, has a ‘secret’ wife outside of their turbulent union, ABN TV learnt.

R.E.V.E.A.L.E.D!! Late Osinachi Nwachukwu’s Husband Has Secret Wife

Nwachukwu is believed to have wedded the woman with whom he shares a romantic relationship in a church but hid the union from Osinachi and her family.

The romance, which began before Nwachukwu sought the hand of the late gospel artiste in marriage, is believed to have gone south after the woman bore a child for him.

These facts came to the fore when one of the children of the deceased gospel star found an old photo album hidden in his father’s room.

The child, whose name is withheld for apparent reasons, said their mother had suspicions that their father was having a secret affair, but could not lay her hands on any concrete evidence.

Narrating how he discovered the photo album which exposed Mr. Nwachukwu’s secret, the kid said: “One day, my father was away and forgot to lock up his room. So, I entered and a voice within told me to explore the room. Then, I saw the album and out of curiosity, I opened it and saw daddy’s old photographs. From the photos, I could see that my daddy lived a wayward life.

“So, I closed the album and kept it where daddy hid it. I couldn’t tell mummy or anyone because I was very afraid that daddy will kill me, if he found out that I knew about the photos. Mummy once tried to search for things like this (album) in daddy’s room, but could not find anything.”

Meanwhile, after the child brought out the hidden secret album for the world to see, the already distraught relatives of the late gospel singer were shocked to know that Mr. Peter Nwachukwu, was hitherto married to another woman in a church long before coming for Osinachi’s hand in marriage about 10 years ago.

A family source also told Vanguard (not ABN TV), “We never knew Nwachukwu was previously married to another woman. If ever we knew about ot prior to now, we may not have allowed Osinachi to marry him. Osinachi must have been through a lot of pain which she, unfortunately, kept away from us.”

It would be recalled that the 42-year-old Osinachi died last Friday after spending days at the National Hospital in Abuja.

Colleagues of Osinachi, who was a lead singer at the Dunamis International Headquarters, Abuja, accused her husband, Peter Nwachukwu, of beating her to death.

However, the husband was arrested by the police over alleged culpable homicide.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination would be carried out to ascertain the cause of Osinachi’s death tomorrow (Wednesday) at the National Hospital, Abuja.

5000 Households To Get Constant Power Supply As FG, World Bank Commences Installation Of Solar Panels In Abia

No fewer than 5000 households in Abia will soon enjoy 24/7 power supply as World Bank in collaboration with the Federal Government through the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC, has commenced installation of solar systems in identified homes.

NDPHC representative, Mr Chinonso Ugwueke, an Engineer who led the team for the installation to Abia, said the initiative was introduced to provide 24-hour uninterrupted solar power to 5 million households in Nigeria off the national grid.

He said that the lawmaker representing Aba South State constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Obinna Ichita, who brought the team to Abia had already paid for 3000 solar systems that would be installed in his constituency free of charge.

Addressing traditional rulers in Aba South, Mr Ibrahim Usman, the Regional Manager of A-Solar Systems, the firm in charge of the installations, said that the initiative was in furtherance with goal seven of the Sustainable Development Goal, SDG.

He said that the target was to provide affordable and accessible electricity off the national grid for rural and semi-urban communities.

Usman said that apart from providing subsidized uninterrupted solar power to the people, 1000 youths from the constituency would be engaged in the installation after free training by the firm.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Ichita said that renewable energy had the potential to meet the energy needs of rural communities especially at a time the national grid had almost collapsed.

He said it would provide opportunity for “unserved and underserved” communities in his constituency to overcome their power challenge through solar energy.

Ichita said that renewable energy had the capacity to provide constant power supply for households and businesses which would in turn boost socio-economic development in rural areas.

When I discovered the opportunity, I felt I should not waste time in bringing it down to my constituents considering how important Aba is in our march to industrialisation.

“The intention is to provide 24-hour steady supply of power off and national grid using solar technology that is not only efficient but environmental friendly.

” Besides constant power supply, 1000 youths will also be taken off the street and get employed along solar technology value chain.”

The lawmaker explained that the World Bank in conjunction with the Central Bank, Rural Electrification Agency and other stakeholders were behind the project.

“The constant power outages and collapse of the national grid underpin the importance of this project”, he added.

Ichita urged the State Government to key into the project.

In a remark, Eze Ibe Enyeazu, the Chairman of Aba South Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM, Eze Ibe Enyeazu, expressed delight over the project, assuring that communities in the council would give maximum support for the success of the project.

The monarch commended the lawmaker for the gesture which he said would end the power challenge of many households in rural communities.

I've Not Abandoned My Presidential Ambition, Says Gov. Umahi
Governor Dave Umahi

Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi has denied reports that he has abandoned his ambition to contest the 2023 Presidential election under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ebonyi South Senatorial seat.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barrister Orji Uchenna Orji, in a statement on Tuesday, said the report is sponsored by opposition forces who are afraid of the governor’s growing popularity.

Our attention has been drawn to a senseless falsehood being irresponsibly shared on social media platforms by opposition forces and mischievous minds who are idly making mendacious propaganda against the Presidential ambition of the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Engr Chief David Nweze Umahi FNSE FNATE (Akubaraoha).

“Contrary to their cowardly fabrications against the well thought and nationally accepted Presidential ambition of Governor Umahi, we restate for the pleasure of progressive Nigerians home and in diaspora, that the falsehood trending currently on Social Media that Governor Umahi has dropped his ambition for Senate is nothing but the empty and vaunting architecture of political charlatans who are intimidated by the tall and admirable hallmarks of leadership excellence recorded by Governor Umahi and which has put him forward as a frontline Presidential material that can win the hearts of Nigerians in 2023 General Election. Governor Umahi’s Presidential ambition is unwavering and is alive in the hearts of Nigerians.

“We advise the opposition forces and their agents to desist from all these fruitless and bizarre orchestrations against God’s servant and accomplished leader, for that is bringing more ostracism to their own organisms. We assure them that no matter the secrecy and potency of their plots, God will bring it to nought as we come in the name of God.

“We shall not hesitate in exposing the identities of the paid jobbers and their principals who have taken to social media to escalate fake news and false information aimed at undermining the Presidential ambition of Governor Umahi.

“We are tracking and rounding up some of the paid political jobbers who are spreading this falsehood in notable WhatsApp platforms, including the owner of phone number +2250555891284 who was detailed by his paymasters to escalate the fake news in a WhatsApp platform called Congress for Civil Society.

“We thank the public, especially all those who have called our attention to this criminal falsehood against our dear Governor, particularly journalists who have spontaneously discountenanced this fake news as the handiwork of enemies of good work.

“Together we shall build Nigeria of our pride under Governor Umahi as President of Nigeria come 2023.”

The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency of Abia state, Hon. Sam Onuigbo has said despite repeated efforts by him to ensure that an impending catastrophic experience is averted, following exposure of pipeline caused by erosion site in Umunwanwa, Umuopara in Umuahia south LGA of the state, the NNPC, PPMC and other relevant authorities have refused to take the necessary action.

He noted that he has moved motions at the floor of the 8th and 9th Assemblies, accompanied by resolutions of the House mandating the relevant agencies of government to swiftly intervene to prevent any possible disaster, yet nothing has been done.

The lawmaker expressed this concern during an interactive session the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Upstream on the state of the nation’s oil and gas industry had with the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari.

Hon. Onuigbo a member of the committee called on the federal government to take immediate action to forestall possible loss of lives in the affected community.

Onuigbo further expressed concern that despite several resolutions by the house to that effect since the eighth assembly, the NNPC failed to address the issue to ensure the safety and lives of those living in the vicinity of these exposed oil pipelines.

Recall that Rep. Onuigbo had moved two motions on this same matter of urgent public importance (Order 8, Rule 4) and had called on the Federal Government to immediately take actions to prevent a calamity waiting to happen at Umunwanwa, Umuopara, in Umuahia South LGA of Abia State: These motions were initiated in two Assemblies—8th and 9th Assemblies– to get the backing of the House in efforts at ensuring that the Federal Government and its agencies take urgent action to address the life-threatening Umunwanwa erosion.

During his lead debate, the lawmaker said: “Umunwanwa is a town in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State and has the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) pipeline passing through it, and the town has been devastated by severe erosion menace”.

“The destructive effects of erosion in Umunwanwa are threatening lives, property, and economic activities in the area, coupled with this threat is the danger that the PPMC pipeline that passes through Umunwanwa has been precariously exposed by the erosion, leaving it open to explosion at the slightest of impacts.

“The ugly petroleum pipeline explosion that resulted in the deaths of about 250 people in Osisioma, in Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State in 2018, was reported to have exhibited similar dangerous signals which were brought to the attention of the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) or its subsidiary, the PPMC, but such warning alerts and several calls to act to prevent the deadly incident that happened were ignored or neglected;

“Umunwanwa is sitting on a literal keg of gun powder and except the Federal Government immediately takes measures to defuse this, the looming mass death of those Nigerian citizens might as well be equated to a government-sanctioned execution”, Onuigbo warned.

Disclosing to ABN TV Correspondent in a WhatsApp conversation, he said “This erosion site among others, is at Umunwanwa in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State. I have been seeking all sorts of interventions including some palliative works from Anambra/Imo River Basin Authority. I have also paid for the survey plan and engineering works that were done for that site and submitted to Ecological Fund Office ”.

In response, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mele Kolo Kyari, promised to look into the issue so as to avoid both human and economic loss in the area.

Russia’s Military Goals In Ukraine Are “Noble” And Will Be Achieved – President Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said his country’s military goals in Ukraine are “noble” and will be achieved, according to Russian state news agency TASS.

Speaking at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in eastern Russia Tuesday, where he was meeting with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, Putin said the “special operation” in Ukraine was the right step as Russia “had no other choice.”

Putin said the goals of the “special military operation” was to help the people of Donbas, and “takes measures to ensure the security of Russia itself.”

“Obviously, we had no other choice, that’s right. And there is no doubt that the goals [of the special operation] will be achieved,” Putin said on Tuesday.

“The main goal is to help people in Donbas, the people of Donbas, which we recognized, were forced to do this because the Kyiv authorities, pushed by the West, refused to comply with the Minsk agreements aimed at a peaceful solution to the problems of Donbas,” Putin added.

Some background: Putin has framed the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a “special mission” to protect Russian speakers from genocide at the hands of “neo-Nazis.”

Three days before invading Ukraine, the Russian leader officially recognized the two self-proclaimed “people’s republics” of Donetsk and Luhansk in the Donbas region as independent.

Ukrainian and Western officials have said in recent days they have observed movement of Russian troops to Donbas following major setbacks for Moscow in a push to take Kyiv.

According to a senior US defense official, Russia is attempting to resupply and reinforce its forces in eastern Ukraine, as evidenced by a convoy of vehicles approaching the city of Izyum from the north.

CNN also geolocated a video shared to social media on Monday showing a large column of Russian military vehicles facing north-west, in the direction of the Donbas region.

Ukraine is investigating some 5,800 cases of alleged Russian war crimes, according to its prosecutor general.
