Elder statesman, Chief Mbazulike Amechi, has appealed to armed groups to withdraw the sit-at-home purportedly ordered on May 5 and 6 in the South-East over the planned two-day visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Ebonyi state.

Recall that Governor David Umahi on Tuesday announced that President Buhari would be in the Ebonyi state for two days: Thursday and Friday.

However, online reports made around on Wednesday evening disclosing that the dreaded Unknown Gunmen have declared sit-at-home all over the South-East region during the President’s visit, and further threatened to be ruthless with anyone caught disobeying the order.

Reacting to the report, Amechi in a chat with newsmen, begged the armed men behind the sit-at-home order, to withdraw their threat and avoid actions that would embarrass Ndigbo before President Buhari.

Pa Amechi further explained that the sit-at-home threat could jeopardise the concerted efforts being made by Igbo elders to find solutions to the insecurity and also secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

He said, “I read on social media that a militant group has stated the coming of the President to the Southeast. Please I want to appeal to whosoever, or group, behind the statement to please withdraw that threat.

“Despite my old age plus the aching pains all over my body, I am almost in a wheelchair, yet I am highly committed to restoring peace in Igboland. I will meet the President along with some Igbo leaders and elders about the security of our region, which is interwoven in the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu.

“We are going to discuss these with him. So anything that would embarrass us or the President. Would make things difficult for us. And anybody who is moving against our meeting with the President is not pursuing the genuine interest of Nnamdi Kanu and the overall interest of Igboland.

“So I appeal to them not to do anything that would embarrass Southeast because we are going to discuss the insecurity and Nnamdi Kanu’s case”.

2023 Presidency: NANS Demands Ngige, Nwajiuba Resignation

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has said the array of persons aspiring to become president underscores the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The association said it was quite unfortunate that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, and the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, are now aspiring to become president after crippling the tertiary education.

In a statement signed by the Ogun State Chairman of NANS, Damilola Simeon on Thursday, the association asked Ngige and Nwajiuba should resign instead of aspiring to be president.

NANS expressed concern that “individuals who do not have any credible past or present can now come out to declare their aspiration for the office of the president without shame,” under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The students maintained that the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari “has degraded the office of the president so much” that the likes of Ngige and Nwajiuba could put themselves forward for the exalted office.

“Many of such disappointment is the embarrassing declaration of intention and purchase of interest form by the duo of the Minister for Labour and the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Chris Ngige and Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba respectively,”

The students stressed that the duo of Ngige and Nwajiuba have “failed to resolve the lingering ASUU strike among many other issues confronting the ministries they both head.”

Simeon said, “By norms, failures like Mr. Nwajiuba and Ngige should resign from their positions and tender an open apology to Nigerian students and their parents for failing to resolve the crisis in the education sector.

“Unfortunately, they have raised their shamelessness by showing intention to run for the most serious office of the federation.

“Should Buhari be responsive and sensitive to national concerns, both men ought to be greeted with letters of dismissal as Ministers not later than 24 hours after their official declaration. Or what hope lies in a man who has failed in handling just a single ministry aspiring to be the President?”

In the same vein, NANS described as heartbreaking, the fact that the APC dignified “these failed Ministers with access to purchase nomination form of the party,” saying “this is a proof that the party leadership emphasizes income generated from sales of the form above national interest.”

The statement added: “This goes with the unbelievable fact that the form is sold for 100 million Naira in a country where over seventy percent of her citizens survive below a dollar per day, and a ruling party that has failed in addressing this poverty rate is mocking her citizens through this.

“Our concern is also that these individuals purchasing the interest form of the APC and their counterparts in PDP for as much as N100 million and N40 million, respectively, lack conscience. We believe no individual with legitimate income and good intentions would purchase the form to aspire for a presidential job of less than N60 million salary in four years at such amount.

“This is an open mockery of the Buhari anti-corruption crusade facade. Even at this, it is ridiculous that someone like Governor Yahaya Bello and Nyesom Wike of Kogi and the River States, who are owing salaries and/or pensions could boldly purchase form. This exposes how badly our polity has been brought to its lowest ebb.

“In conclusion, as much as we respect the power of parties to determine their internal affairs, as well as political rights of individuals, it is important that we make our concerns known in the interest of our dear country.”

Senate Majority Leader Joins Kebbi Governorship Race

The majority leader of the senate, Yahaya Abdullahi, on Wednesday, picked the nomination form of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the governorship election in Kebbi State.

Mr. Abudullahi is representing Kebbi North Senatorial District. He is one of the leaders of the faction of the party in the state opposed to the incumbent governor, Atiku Bagudu.

The new media aide to Mr. Bagudu, Zaidu Bala, in a Facebook post shared a photo of Mr. Abdullahi with the nomination form with other party officials.

The lawmaker joins Abubakar Malami, Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, who has also declared interest to contest under the APC in Kebbi.

A former lawmaker and the elder brother to Kebbi governor, Bello Badugu, are among the politicians loyal to the senate leader. He reportedly led the delegation of party members that allegedly purchased the interest nomination form for Mr. Abdullahi.

The party’s leadership in the state is divided between two factions – one loyal to Mr. Bagudu and the other loyal to a former governor, Adamu Aliero.

Mr. Aliero is pushing for the Senate majority leader to be the next governor of the state. But the governor, Mr. Bagudu, who is from the same senatorial district as Mr. Malami, prefers the latter to succeed him.

Meanwhile, Mr. Bagudu also picked the interest nomination form for Kebbi central senatorial district, Mr. Bala said.

He will challenge Mr. Aleiro, who is the present occupant of the seat, for the party’s ticket.

Russia Accuses Ukrainian Of Using “Black Magic” To Consecrate Their Weapons

Russia Accuses Ukrainian Of Using

Ukrainian troops have been accused of using ‘black magic’ at a military headquarters in Ukraine so as to increase the damage felt by Russian troops.

Found on the wall of a deserted Ukrainian military base on the outskirts of the village of Trekhizbenka in the contested Luhansk region, was a ‘satanic seal’ – a symbol believed to hold connections to a greater supernatural power, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported.

The state media then claimed that the satanic seal, as well as other markings made with blood, showed there were signs that Ukrainian soldiers were ‘practicing black magic’.

The news agency claims  ‘disciples of otherworldly forces tried to consecrate their weapons and made marks with blood’ so as to give their armoury extra energy to deal extra damage when it hits a target.

On the tv channel on Wednesday, May 4, Russian culturologist and philosopher Ekaterina Dais claimed the symbol which was spray-painted with black ink – was a ‘magical seal of the dark forces’ that combines the ideas of anarchy, weapons, and fascist symbols.

She claimed the creators of the symbol ‘performed rituals’ to strengthen their weapons or asked supernatural powers for weapons to be sent to them.

‘This is a magical symbol consisting of many intersecting lines,’ Dais said in reference to the black symbol.

‘What it means is difficult to say for sure, in it you can see both the inverted sign of anarchy, and part of the ‘SS’ sign, the rune zig, which is clearly visible in the left sector of the circle, and the Hebrew letter ‘zain’ written in German, meaning a sword or weapon.’

Dais claimed that the seal had been drawn without the creator lifting a hand, which apparently ‘betrays its supernatural nature.

She said the ‘Zain’ written underneath the symbol means ‘sword’ in Biblical Hebrew.

‘Perhaps the spell’s authors performed rituals to strengthen weapons or ‘asked’ for more weapons to be sent to them,’ said Dais.

"Bosso Has Nothing To Offer" — Ex-Flying Eagles Coach, Uwa

Former Flying Eagles coach Godwin Uwa says the country’s current U-20 men’s team handler, Ladan Bosso, has nothing to offer.

Bosso was reinstated as the Flying Eagles Coach despite failing to qualify the team for the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania.

The Flying Eagles finished last in Group B (alongside Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire) in WAFU-UFOA Zone B qualifiers for the 2021 U-20 AFCON.

Bosso is currently with the team in the Niger Republic, for the qualifiers to the 2023 U-20 AFCON and will face Ghana and Burkina Faso in Group B.

And ahead of the qualifiers Uwa, who led the Flying Eagles to a second-place finish at the 2007 U-20 AFCON in Congo Brazzaville, posited that he has his reservations about the team’s head coach Bosso.

He, however, stated that he hopes the team does well in the qualifiers.

“I wish the team all the best in the competition but as far as I’m concern Ladan Bosso has nothing to offer,” he said on Brila FM’s Breakfast Show on Wednesday.

“I know him very well but like I said I hope the team does well.”

After qualifying the Flying Eagles for the Canada U-20 World Cup in 2007 after finishing second at the African qualifiers in Congo Brazzaville, Uwa was replaced by Bosso.

At the World Cup, Bosso led the Flying Eagles to a quarter-final finish.

The team had players like Brown Ideye, Elderson Echiejile, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Efe Ambrose.

Meanwhile, as part of preparations for this year’s regional qualifiers, the Flying Eagles took on the Niger Republic in two test matches.

The first test game last Friday ended goalless while the second tie played on Monday saw the Flying Eagles triumph 1-0.

They will open their campaign at the tournament on Sunday, 8th May against Ghana before facing Burkina Faso three days later.

Don’t Delay Announcement Of A Foreign Coach For Eagles – Aikhoumogbe Tells NFF

Don’t Delay Announcement Of A Foreign Coach For Eagles – Aikhoumogbe Warns NFF

Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Andrew Aikhoumogbe has warned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to settle the issue of a foreign coach that will manage the Super Eagles before the commencement of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Recall that the NFF has shortlisted former Barcelona manager, Ernesto Valverde, former PSG and France coach, Laurent Blanc, former PSV Eindhoven manager, Phillip Cocu, and Jose Peseiro for the vacant Super Eagles coaching role.

Although the NFF is yet to come to conclusion on who takes over the managerial role from Austine Eguavoen, however, Aikhoumogbe in an interview with Completesports.com from his base in Cairo, Egypt, has urged the football body to make a quick decision on it.

I expected that by now the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) would have named a substantive coach for the Super Eagles so that the new coach can quickly get used to the system in Nigeria.

“Delaying the announcement of a new foreign coach may not be too good for Nigeria considering the fact that the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers will commence soon.

“NFF must get this right before it is too late.”

ECL: Mourinho Banks On Home Support To Overcome Leicester City

Roma coach Jose Mourinho believes the home support will play a crucial role in tonight’s Europa Conference League against Leicester City.

Roma host the second leg of the semifinal with the aggregate score locked at 1-1.

Mourinho said, “There is no doubt about the empathy created between us as a team and the fans. We’ve been competing together for more or less 10 months, with good and bad moments, to remember and to forget, we’ve always been together.

“Now we’re at a time when the last two games of the season are being played at the Olimpico: against Leicester and Venezia. It would be nice to celebrate this link, which has been created and remains beyond the results.

“We all deserve to finish these two games well at the Olimpico. We’re playing for us, but a lot for the fans: I’d like the fans to play the game with us tomorrow. You can be at the stadium as a spectator and you can be there to play the game.

“If we have 70,000 fans it means nothing, if they want to play it’s different. That’s what we’re asking people: don’t come to watch the game, come to the stadium to play.”

He added, “To be honest winning at Leicester means more than winning titles at Chelsea, at Man United. All jokes aside, he certainly wants to win. Especially because it’s the only way to get to the European competition next year. The only way to do that is to win the Conference League.”

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State says the situation of Nigeria is so bad that the country needs a mad man to turn things around for the better.

The presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said this while addressing delegates of the party in Kogi State on Wednesday.

Wike appealed to the delegates to vote for him at the primaries, saying he has what it takes to govern Nigeria and take it to the promise land.

“The energy in me is too much. I want to use the energy to work for the country”, he said

“I have made myself available for my party, and to be voted to become the next president of Federal Republic of Nigeria. Never in the history of this country have we so divided. I can bring back the country back on its track of greatness. It doesn’t matter where you are from. It takes a mad man to govern Nigeria”, he said.

He said Nigerians need a fearless and courageous person like him who can speak the truth to the power.

He called on the delegates not to doubt his sincerity in turning the economy around.

“As for me, if you don’t vote for me in our party primary, I will still remain a member of the PDP. I have benefited from this party, and so I have no excuse to give, for defecting to another party”, he said.

The Presidential aspirant cast aspersions on those who turned their back against the PDP after benefitting from the party.

In their remarks, the two former governors of the state , Ibrahim Idris and Captain Idris Wada, including the state party executive members extolled the virtues of governor Wike, and assured him of their support in the party presidential primary slated for the end of this month.

ZUFF 2022: NFC Berates Kannywood Over Boycott

ZUFF 2022: NFC Berates Kannywood Over Boycott

The Nigerian Film Corporation, organisers of the 2022 Zuma International Film Festival currently holding in the Nation’s capital, Abuja has flayed Motion Picture Practitioners’ Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) and Arewa Film Makers Association of Nigeria (AFMAN) over a press release issued by both organisations that they boycotted the International film festival.

MOPPAN had on Wednesday in a press release addressed to the minister of Information and culture by their National President Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Sarari, explained the reason for their action. He explained that the event was deliberately fixed on Sallah Day, which, apart from being a festive day for all Muslims all over the word, is also a public holiday, meant to honor and celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan”.

The president also said that the criteria of selection is biased “As 16th February 2022, NFC appointed the National President of MOPPAN as Chairman, Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Kano and Kaduna axis, with two other members for the objective of mobilizing stakeholders from the northern part of the country to effectively participate in the Festival”

However the NFC in a swift reaction by its Head of Media and Publicity, Brian Etuk dismissed the claims of MOPPAN stating that the rebranded annual Zuma Film Festival since 2017 has always been held from 1st to the 7th  December.

Etuk added that in view of the need to ensure a truly national film festival, NFC in 2018, approached the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for a joint hosting collaboration with Abuja designated as “Host City”. This he said culminated in the signing of an MoU in November 2021. He clarified that subsequently, the film festival was shifted to 2″ — 9″” April, 2022. He explained that due to challenges associated with implementing the collaboration finally resulted in its being jointly shifted to 1st – 7″ May 2022.

Brian specifically pointed out that Nigerian Film Corporation remains a responsible federal government audiovisual agency that has overtime in line with her mandate deployed resources of the government towards building a united Nigeria rather than stoking up religious or ethnic divisive tendencies.

As against the claims of MOPPAN Etuk maintained that the NFC actually took into consideration the Sallah festival of the Muslim faithfuls which led to the shifting of core activities of the Film Festival to the 4th – 7th of May.

“Indeed, as a build up to the Festival, the organizers visited (IDP Camps in Abuja to deliver Sallah food and materials as widely reported in the press and a free Sallah Film Screening at the Silverbird Cinema to compliment the festuity during this period.

“It is worthy to note that these dates were widely publicized to the knowledge and agreement of the President of MOPPAN, Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Sarari who nominated himself, his publicity secretary, and two others via a text message on 28th April 2022, thereafter went ahead to sign the above referenced press release under MOPPAN. They were all scheduled to arrive at the Zuma film festival on the 4” of May, 2022 at Nicon Luxury Abuja where accommodation had since been reserved, Etuk clarified.

On claims of being sidelined by the present administration of the NFC, Etuk dismissed the allegations, he outlined efforts made by the current Managing director/ Chief Executive to carry the association along in all its activities.

According to Etuk its is on record that MOPPAN members were the first group of film makers that the Nigerian Film Corporation led to meet with President Muhammad Buhari GCFR, and the Managing Director has held numerous interactive meetings/engagements with film stakeholders and members of film industry from across the country, including those from the North.

He added that Presently, a prominent member of MOPPAN is producing a documentary for the Nigerian Film Corporation titled: DANFODIO; the Reformer of West Africa.

Etuk said that the NFC is saddened by the actions of MOPPAN which he said is an attempt to input sectional bias in the activities of the Nigerian Film Corporation describing it as the height of disservice and mischief from the authors of this press release and their sponsors.

The NFC urged the film stakeholders and Nigerians in general to disregard this press release by MOPPAN which has all characteristics of cheap blackmail as a hired hand for an uncalled-for proxy battle.

Stressing that the allegations are obviously sponsored to blackmail and scuttle the immense success so far recorded by the festival as could be attested from several print, electronic and online platforms.
