National leader of the All Progressive Congress and presidential aspirant in 2023 election, Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has thrown a poser to his opponents, daring them to try and see who wins the party’s ticket and the election proper.

He also observed that the reward system in APC was poor, promising to change the system if elected president next year.

Tinubu also said he would address the economic and security challenges if given the opportunity.

Tinubu, who is a former governor of Lagos State spoke on Thursday evening in Abuja when he hosted the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria (FFDGN).

He appealed to the forum to support his presidential ambition and also ensure the unity of the the party in their various states to achieve success, starting with Osun and Ekiti elections which are afoot.

“Many of you I know, and you have participated in governance and political activities. You have given a value to your various states. When we merged as one and took broom as the symbol of party, broom has a lot of meaning.

“Let me first of all address our element of constitution, I promise to look into that if elected. Our reward system as APC is very poor, and it was late before I could recognise that. Let me assure you, I won’t repeat that mistake, if I’m elected.

“I know that you still have people who believe in you, in the system. In some states where we have divisions, please, tell us, we have to harmonise and become one. Particularly, Oyo is divided, Osun and Ekiti elections are coming, these elections are precursors to the national election.

“But for those who have decided to be an opponent, I will not dwell on that, let’s see who wins, but I want to win and I want you to work along with me and to convince more delegates,” Tinubu added.

Earlier in his remarks, the national chairman of the forum and former deputy governor of Edo State, Lucky Imasuen pledged the support of APC deputy governors to the presidential ambition of the national leader.

“You can tell from the attendance that the level of enthusiasm was extremely high, when we have a political meeting of this nature, APC members will attend APC meeting and PDP members will attend PDP meetings, same to other political parties, but when we hold meeting, we hold meetings together as one family.

“We came here to listen to you, we are going to talk less and listen to our leader,” he said.

CBN Governor Emefiele Joins Presidential Race, Picks N100m APC Forms

The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has picked the expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Daily Trust gathered that Emefiele picked the N100 million forms from the party’s organising secretary at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja, on Friday morning.

This puts to rest the speculations on his interest in succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari.

In February 2014, former President Goodluck Jonathan appointed Emefiele, hours after he announced the suspension of his predecessor, Sanusi Lamido.

In 2019, the former Managing Director of Zenith Bank made history as the first CBN governor to be reappointed.

APP: Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu Replies Senator Kalu On Launching Of New Mega Party

Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, a former Chief of Staff to Abia State Governor has reacted to a statement credited to his elder brother and Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, saying he did not officially inform him of his decision to launch a new political party, Action Peoples Party, APP.

Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu in a statement signed by his aide, Rev Okey Umezie noted that Kalu and Mascot were relating well as siblings.

He said, “Today, we read the statement by the Chief Whip of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu where he reacted to the launching of the Action Peoples Party, APP.

“While we acknowledge his position as the father of Abia politics, it is pertinent we address some of the issues he raised in his statement.

“Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu alongside other Abia APC leaders visited Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu at his Igbere home during the last Christmas Holiday with a cow and drinks to inform him of their decision to quit the APC.

“While we acknowledge the role played by Senator Kalu and other leaders of the party to persuade Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu and others from defecting, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu has the right to take decision on his political future since the APC refused to acknowledge his sacrifices for the party.

“It is also imperative to inform Senator Orji Uzor Kalu that since Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu had during the Christmas Holiday informed him of his decision to leave the APC, there was no need informing him again about the launching of Action Peoples Party, APP.

“Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu and others who launched APP in Abia State have no issues or whatever with Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. He remains our leader even though we are not in the same political party.

“It is important to let Abians know that APP is a party for all and for the good of Abians. We are not in APP to fight anyone but to rescue Abians from bad governance. Senator Orji Kalu and his brother Mascot are not the first siblings to be in different political parties. The Honorable Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uche Ogah and his brother, Amobi are in different political parties with one running for Governor, with the other running for Isikwuato/Umunneochi house of representatives seat.

“In Kwara, Bukola Saraki is in PDP aspiring to be President and his sister, Gbemi Saraki is in APC as a Federal Minister. Therefore, Mascot is not the first to have a different political ideology from his brother.

“APP is coming to rescue Abians in 2023. It is important we support them to succeed. It is a party of equity, justice and fairness.”

Speaking on zoning, Umezia said APP has zoned their governorship ticket to Abia North Senatorial district, Deputy to Umunneato axis of Abia Central and Speaker to Ukwa blog in Abia South.

He noted that the party has a working document on the zoning of Abia State governorship for next 20 years.

Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer, Ejimakor Reacts To UK designation Of IPOB As Terror Group

Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor has reacted to the designation of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB as a Terrorist Group by the British Government.

This newspaper earlier reported that the  UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) posted the following on its website;

“IPOB is proscribed as a terrorist group by the Nigerian government, and members of the group and its paramilitary wing – the Eastern Security Network (created in December 2020) – have reportedly committed human rights violations in Nigeria.”

“If a person has been involved with IPOB (and/or an affiliated group), MASSOB or any other ‘Biafran’ group that incites or uses violence to achieve its aims, decision makers must consider whether one (or more) of the exclusion clauses under the Refugee Convention is applicable.”

“Persons who commit human rights violations must not be granted asylum.”

However, Ejimakor says otherwise. He tweeted on Friday; “Britain DID NOT declare #IPOB a terrorist group. Sorry to disappoint those that have concluded otherwise.

“Read that Report again & be guided.”

Court Will Decide Nnamdi Kanu’s Fate, Buhari Tells Igbo Leaders

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday told Southeast leaders that the court will determine the fate of pro-separatist leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

He stated this during a meeting with leaders from the region at the New Government House Abakaliki, capital of the State.

Buhari is in Ebonyi for a two-day working visit.

The President was reacting to a demand by leaders of the region who pleaded with him to release Kanu and Igbo other youths in detention across the country.

They said they are in dialogue with dissident groups in the region with a view to bringing them to a round table discussion for the return of peace.

Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been in detention since last year after he was arrested by the Federal Government.

He is facing prosecution for alleged treasonable felony and terrorism allegations he continues to deny.

Since his arrest, the southeast has witnessed increasing spate of killings and attacks on security agents, government facilities and high profile individuals.

The attacks have been blamed on IPOB by security agencies and the Federal Government but the group has continued to deny responsibility.

But leaders and residents are of the view that Kanu’s release could go a long way in resolving the security quagmire in the region.

Leaders who spoke at the meeting include Chairman of Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Charles Mkpumai; Southeast Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Rev Fr Abraham Nwali; Ohanézè Ndígbo President-General, George Obiozor and First Republic Minister, Mbazulike Amaechi.

Eze Mkpuma also called on Buhari to support the call for a President of southeast extraction.

Amaechi pleaded with the President to help restore peace in the region.

“I want to see peace in this country before I join my ancestors, I want to see peace in the southeast, particularly where there is an upsurge of crisis and something that will lead to that peace is around the corner and we are asking you to give me the mandate and I will give you peace. I guarantee you this Mr. President”

“We say in Igbo land that a mad man is owned by his people. If somebody was mad yesterday, and on guarantee of elders like me and other elders, I will bring him out and that is to get peace.

“Help us to get the peace and I will give you peace in this part of this country and also in Nigeria because I am a Nigerian, I took part in the struggle for the independence of this country,” he said.

2023: Crisis Looms As APC Includes Withdrawal Letter In Presidential Form [PHOTO]

A palpable Crisis is looming in the All Progressives Congress, APC over the inclusion of a Withdrawal Letter in its 2023 Presidential Nomination Form, ABN TV has gathered.

Some Presidential Aspirants in the party have declined to sign the letter on the basis that it could be a move to force a consensus candidate on them.

This has also been seen as a move to protect the party from court cases/litigation.

The withdrawal letter, seen by this newspaper, has to be signed before a Commissioner of Oath/Public Notary before submission with the following declaration; “I hereby voluntarily withdraw my candidacy from the contest. My withdrawal is in the best interest of our great party, the All Progressives Congress.”

Speaking on the development, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Babatunde Ogala opined that the addition of the letter “might be wrong.”

“It might lead to a lot of problems including litigation because you can’t ask a man to withdraw from a process that you have not even started.”

He queried why the party will have members purchase the form only to assent to withdrawing from the contest before even participating in the process.

ABN TV reports that the aspirants who have declared from the APC include; Ogbonnaya Onu, Rochas Okorocha, Rotimi Amaechi, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Yemi Osinbajo, Tunde Bakara, Yahaya Adoza Bello, Emeka Nwajiuba, Godswill Akpabio, Kayode Fayemi, Ibikunle Amosun, and Nicholas Felix Nwagbo.

South-East Leaders Meet With Buhari In Ebonyi, Plead For Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

Leaders in the South East have pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

In a meeting on Friday, The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the South East, Reverend Father Abraham Nwali, made the plea on behalf of the South East leaders at the Ebonyi State Government house, Abakaliki.

“We plead for a political solution that as a father; a kind father, a forgiving father, to grant Nnamdi Kanu freedom,” he said.

He pleaded for a Pardon on Kanu and also called on Agitators to end all forms of violence and hostilities. It can be recalled that Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Security(DSS) since his recapture in June 2021.

He had fled the country in 2017 after he was granted bail for medical reasons. The Nigerian government has since re-arraigned him in court and on April 8th at the Federal high court in Abuja, 8 out of the 15 charges levelled against him were struck out.

He will however face trial on the remaining charges.
