It’s A Big Lie – Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani Slams Those Buying Forms For Presidential Hopefuls

The latest trend which involves support groups purchasing the party’s presidential nomination forms for some contenders has been described as “a big lie” by former Senate President and APC Presidential hopeful, Ken Nnamani.

Ken Nnamani while speaking on Arise TV today May 12, asserted that the trending reports that some support groups bought forms for their preferred candidate were all lies as the said supports have no money to pay for their rents. He mentioned that the trend must be stopped forthwith.

“Our history is replete with reluctant leaders. This concept of collecting forms by proxy, people who go and collect forms for someone. We are talking about serious business; leading a country as complicated and complex as Nigeria requires someone who is prepared for the primetime.

It does not require somebody who is being persuaded to go. It means the person is not even ready.

The discussion so far as being on people for who shadow groups have gone to obtain forms and claim to have contributed money for somebody. But if you take a close look at those buying forms for people, some of them appeared to be having difficulty paying their house rent. We are starting on a wrong footing, telling lies. Anybody who is serious about contesting should go and buy the form and not send people while claiming reluctance.

The shadowy group going about saying they are purchasing forms for people is a laughing situation. It’s a big lie and it should be discouraged.” Nnamani said

“The leader of the gang is Josephine Adun ‘F’ (40) of Omono Street, Off Stadium Roadhouse, Benin City. “Saddened by this crime, the CP is calling on all Local Government Areas of the state and other agencies of government who are empowered in safeguarding the cemetery to do so, as activities of these criminals need to be checked before they constitute more nuisance in the society,” he added.

He continued, “On 11/05/2022 at about 07:45hrs, the operatives of the command in collaboration with local vigilante went on bush combing in an effort to track down, possibly arrest and recover arms from kidnap syndicates who are in Uzea Forest Uromi in Esan Central Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Umahi Appoints Five New Commissioners, Aides

Ebonyi Governor David Umahi has forwarded five commissioner-nominees to the Assembly for screening on Thursday.

Chief Press Secretary to Ebonyi Speaker Leo Ekene Oketa made this known in a statement.

He said: ” Engr David Nweze Umahi, Governor of Ebonyi State has forwarded to Ebonyi State House of Assembly, his list of nominees for appointment as Commissioners”.

“The nominees are Mathias Adum, Celestine Nwali, Romanus Nwasum, Chris Uchaji, and Beatrice Eze”, the statement said

Oketa also announced the nomination of seven other persons as Coordinators of some Development Centres in the State.

Development Centers are the fourth tier of government in the State created during the Sam Egwu administration.

The nominees are Justice Ogbonnaya (Akaeze DC); Peter Uduma (Ubeyi DC);
Sunday Agwu (Ishielu DC); Felix Ogbu Aniocha (Onicha DC); Chukwudi Pascal Obia (Izizi DC); Oliver Mbam (Omenyi DC) and Agbo Eucharia (Ngbo Central DC).

Oketa said all the nominees have been invited to appear before the Assembly for screening and possible confirmation by 11 am.

“The nominees are to submit their curriculum vitae, photocopies of their relevant credentials, and tax clearance certificates with evidence of payments of their property taxes, in 31 file copies, to the office of the Clerk of the House not later than 9 am, Thursday, May 12, 2022,” he added.

While the appointments may seem to be to fill vacant positions, investigations however show that they may not be the only reason.

Three of the Commissioner-nominees-Adum, Nwali, and Nwasum- are former Commissioners under the Martin Elechi administration.

Their appointment may not be unconnected with the recent division in the chapter of the All Progressive Congress(APC).

The trio left the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) and joined the APC around the time Umahi became Governor in 2015.

Umahi, then in PDP had a falling out with Elechi and his supporters, including the trio during the 2015 elections as Elechi opposed Umahi’s ambition to succeed him.

Elechi and his supporters later moved to the APC upon Umahi’s assumption of office.

All that changed in 2020 when Umahi left the PDP and joined the APC and began mending fences with Elechi.

However, a major division occurred in the APC this year following Umahi’s endorsement of Speaker Francis Nwifuru for Governor.

The Governor also endorsed his Commissioners, family members, and followers who moved with him to the APC from the PDP for National and State Assembly positions.

This caused an uproar among old members of the APC who petitioned the national leadership of the party accusing Umahi of sidelining those who had kept the party afloat in the state for years before he joined.

Umahi’s defence that one of the founding APC members and former State Chairman, Eze Nwachukwu is among those endorsed for the National Assembly position was not enough to convince the national leadership nor assuage the anger of the old APC members in the state.

The nomination and imminent appointment of the three old APC members as commissioners is seen as further steps by the governor to mend fences with the old APC members in the State.

All the appointments are also seen as a way to strengthen the APC in some parts of the State where the party seems not to have a stronghold ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

2023: Buhari Told To Replace Malami With Keyamo, Amaechi With Saraki As Ministers
President Buhari

Following Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to his Ministers with political ambition to resign, the President has been beckoned upon to replace the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami with Festus Keyamo, and Rotimi Amaechi with Gbemisola Saraki as the Minister of Transportation.

The call was made by some Nigerians after Buhari directed that his Ministers with political ambition should resign.

At the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting on Wednesday, the President told cabinet members who have declared their political ambition to resign before Monday 16th of May.

This directive affects the following cabinet members, Malami; the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu; Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva.

Following the directive, Amaechi, Nwajiuba; Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, and Ogbonnaya Onu, minister of science and technology, have resigned their appointments.

However, some Nigerians noted that Keyamo was better positioned to replace Malami as the country’s chief law officer.

Read Twitter comments below:

@DOlusegun: “Festus Keyamo should be deployed to Ministry of Justice when Malami resigns.”

@OvieNews: “Gbemisola Saraki will become the new Minister of Transportation and Festus Keyamo the Minister of Labour and Employment.”

@Oritzjaja: “Keyamo would be a natural replacement for Malami being somebody that is knowledgable about the law, looking at his past antecedents.”

@Lanbano: “I pick Keyamo to replace Malami that has really tried to destroy Nigeria’s judiciary system. Keyamo would be a better replacement.”

@Ejirooghene: “I think I would subscribe to Keyamo replacing Malami; that man has done more harm than good to the judiciary system in this country.”

2023: Gombe Governor Endorses Fayemi Presidential Bid

Ahead of the presidential convention of the All Progressives Congress,(APC) Gombe state Governor, Inuwa Yahaya has pledged the support of the entire Gombe delegates and government for the presidential ambition of his Ekiti state counterpart, Kayode Fayemi.

Incidentally, the Ekiti State Governor is the Chairman of the Forum of 36 States governors in the country, the Nigeria Governors Forum.

A statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the spokesman of Kayode Fayemi Campaign Team, Femi Ige, said Governor Inuwa Yahaya gave the pledge when he received the campaign team of the Ekiti State Governor in Gombe.

Governor Yahaya maintained that with governor Fayemi’s deep knowledge as the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum,
“he’s undeniably the best among the presidential aspirants who have been here and we will back you to the end.

“Fayemi has widely acknowledged experience, energy capacity, and deep knowledge. These are the qualities we need at this critical moment in Nigeria. My brother Fayemi, you have our support because we are convinced that Nigeria needs you. I have been encouraged by your consensus-building capabilities and I personally encouraged you to step out for the big job and I’m happy that you have taken up the challenge.”

In his response, Governor Fayemi thanked the Gombe governor and the delegates for the reception, promising not to take the endorsement and the love shown to him for granted.

Fayemi disclosed that his campaign, anchored on Security, Economy, Energy, and Job Creation will be beneficial to all Nigerians, irrespective of their social status, religion, and ethnic background.

“Any government who can successfully tackle this would have succeeded in bringing happiness to our country, discouraging the urge to secede, and addressing our perennial problem of youth restiveness. I believe I have the education, the energy, the capacity, and the knowledge to tackle this myriad of problems” the governor added.

Continuing, Fayemi said he may not be the richest among the aspirants but “history has shown us that the richest or children of the richest have never ruled Nigeria.

“Tafawa Balewa was a teacher, Shagari a headmaster, Obasanjo had no money when he left prison, Umar Yar’Adua was a university teacher, Jonathan had no shoes and of course, we know the background of our current president. What Nigeria needs now is education, capacity, energy, and experience which I have in abundance.

“Nigeria needs a president who will make the Onitsha feel comfortable in Sokoto and the Kano man feel at home in Ibadan or Awka. I feel this best describes me and I promise not to let you down.”

Recall that Arsenal is currently four-point ahead of Antonio Conte’s men going into Thursday’s north London derby.

Losing to Arsenal on Thursday could see Tottenham’s hopes of making it to next season’s Champions League crash.

And, while Sheringham wants the former Inter Milan boss to stay, he fears the Italian could leave if Spurs lose on Thursday.

“If Conte is looking to stay for longer than his two-year period, then he needs more of his own players with a view to playing in the Champions League,” Sheringham told 8Xbet.

“If things go to plan, then he should get more transfer funds and build.

“Would I understand if he left without Champions League football? He is a man who wants to do business straight away. He wants to be playing at the top level in big games.
