Berlin: Robert Habeck, Federal Minister of Economics.

German Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Robert Habeck accused Russia on Thursday of using energy “as a weapon,” following an announcement by the Russian government on Wednesday to impose sanctions on 31 foreign energy companies in retaliation for Western penalties over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“It has to be said that the situation is coming to a head, in such a way that the use of energy as a weapon is now being realized in several areas,” Habeck told reporters at a news conference in Berlin. This is not the first time Habeck has said Russia is using energy as ”a weapon.”

Germany has been under pressure from Ukraine and other nations in Europe to make progress in weaning itself off Russian energy supplies since the start of the invasion on Feb. 24.

On Thursday, Habeck said that Germany was focusing on building up gas reserves to prepare for winter.

“The gas storage facilities must be full by winter or else we will be in a situation where we can easily be blackmailed,” Habeck said.

Finland “must be aware of the responsibility and consequences” of joining NATO, Russia’s foreign ministry said in a statement Thursday, adding that Russia “will be forced” to take retaliatory steps if the country joins the alliance.

“The statement by Finnish President S. Niinistö and Finnish Prime Minister S. Marin, who spoke today in favor of Finland joining NATO, is a radical change in the country’s foreign policy,” the Russian foreign ministry said, adding “Helsinki must be aware of the responsibility and consequences of such a move.”

Finland’s possible accession to NATO would cause serious damage to bilateral Russian-Finnish relations, which are maintaining stability and security in the Northern European region, the ministry said.

“Russia will be forced to take retaliatory steps, both of a military-technical and other nature, in order to stop the threats to its national security that arise in this regard,” it said.

“Joining NATO will also be a direct violation of Finland’s international legal obligations, primarily the Paris Peace Treaty of 1947 and the 1992 Treaty between Russia and Finland on the fundamentals of relations,” Russia’s foreign ministry said.

Finland shares an 800-mile border with Russia.

Comedian AY Exposes Reasons Behind Alleged Beef With Basketmouth

Nollywood actor and comedian, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has opened up on his alleged beef with his colleague, Basketmouth.

In an Ask Me Anything session he recently organized on his Instagram page, AY claimed that he didn’t have issues with Basketmouth but that the latter had an “uncontrollable superiority complex.”

AY noted that he had to avoid Basketmouth’s “incessant childishness”, as such became necessary for his own sanity.

The filmmaker gave these explanations when a fan asked him, @aycomedian, do you really have any issues with Basketmouth?”

In response, AY said, “I don’t have issues with him. But people having unnecessary issues with you is the price you sometimes pay for being progressive.

“He has been battling with his uncontrollable SUPERIORITY COMPLEX for the longest. So avoiding his incessant childishness only became necessary for my own sanity.”

“In other words,  both of you don’t talk,” another fan inserted.

AY responded, “We only talk to those who want to talk to us. Does this make sense?”

In August last year, Bright Okpocha, better known as Basketmouth, had spoken about his beef with AY Makun, as he stated that the latter “messed around with loyalty.”

The culpability for the global consequences of sanctions against Russia, including possible hunger in a number of countries, rests with Western countries who for the sake of their domination are ready to sacrifice the rest of the world, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting on economic issues on Thursday.

He noted that a number of countries are already encountering the threats of hunger and if the sanctions against Russia continue, the EU may also encounter consequences which would be difficult to reverse. “The blame for this entirely and completely rests with the elites of the Western countries who for the sake of preserving their global domination are ready to sacrifice the rest of the world,” the Russian leader stated.

In turn, Russia is confidently coping with external challenges, he added, thanks both to the responsible macroeconomic policy of recent years and systemic solutions on bolstering the economic sovereignty and technological and food security.

“Our production companies are gradually filling in domestic market niches freed up after unscrupulous partners left, including basic goods, industrial and service equipment, construction and agricultural machinery,” the Russian leader noted.

ACF Denies Endorsing Jonathan For 2023

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has denied endorsing former President Goodluck Jonathan, as its preferred candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

A chieftain of the ACF, Alhaji Musa Saidu said this when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday.

Saidu, also the leader of the Arewa community in South-South and South-East, was reacting to media reports stating that a Coalition of Northern Groups had endorsed Jonathan for the 2023 poll.

“ There was never a time the ACF or the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) endorsed a particular aspirant for the presidential election.

“I want to say clearly that no coalition or any group has the mandate to speak for the North,” he said.
Saidu said that although the group has the freedom to speak on national issues as a pressure group, it had no mandate to speak on behalf of the North.

“ I actually read a statement credited to one Abdulazeez Suleiman, the spokesperson for the coalition claiming that the North has endorsed Jonathan for 2023.

“I want to say that this is not true,” he said.

According to him, it is absurd to accept the groups’ claim that there is another credible and qualified candidate than Jonathan in all the South-South and South-East states.

“ We have been living in the South-South for years, we are part of the politics and we know who is who in the area, Jonathan came to power by incidental political circumstances, we know his weaknesses and advantages.

“ We have more credible candidates than him even within the Buhari administration, you can get them. Perhaps, the coalition’s claim was to attract monetary benefits from the former president, certainly not on the basis of truth,’’ he said.

The chieftain urged Nigerians to disregard the claim and called on the coalition to desist from speaking on behalf of the North.

“It is absolutely misleading for a group to speak on behalf of the North without any mandate, doing this is a mischief and tantamount to creating confusion among interest groups,” he said.

Saidu lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for urging all interest aspirants in his cabinet to leave.
