Court Relaxes Stringent Measures On Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial, Introduces New Guidelines

Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer, Ejimakor Reacts To UK designation Of IPOB As Terror Group

There are indications that the Federal High Court in Abuja has soft-pedaled on the stringent conditions imposed on the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

The court had hinted that Nnamdi Kanu may be taken to Code of Conduct Tribunal in Jabi for continuation of his trial, in addition to barring of journalists from witnessing the process.

The development now is that the court authorities have stopped the movement of the trial to the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, at Jabi District of Abuja.

Also, the authorities of the Court have permitted the media to witness the treasonable felony charges brought against the Biafra nation agitator by the Federal Government.

At the time of this report, fully armed operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, have taken perfect control of the security situations within and outside the court premises.

Journalists, lawyers, litigants, as well as workers are being allowed into the court premises unhindered after formal introduction and presentation of identity cards.

The court had last month issued a Practice Direction which moved the trial to CCT believed to be large and spacious enough to accommodate the crowd that usually surged to witness the trial.

The Practice Direction endorsed by the Chief Judge of the Court, Justice John Tsoho had also prohibited media coverage except where expressly permitted.

However, ABN TV Correspondent observed that the stringent conditions have been jettisoned.

Although, reasons for deviating from the Practice Direction have not been made known, it was gathered that Jabi Code of Conduct Tribunal was considered too porous for such a sensitive trial, especially from the security points.

Apart from unhindered access being granted to lawyers and media practitioners, roads leading to the court are not blocked, while food vendors are also having their businesses done without molestation.

However, adequate security measures are being observed to prevent security breaches.

PDP Youths Beg For Special Consideration Ahead Of Party Primaries

Fresh facts have emerged on the reason behind the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party to shift its scheduled governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and houses of assembly primaries.

ABN TV gathered in Abuja, on Tuesday that disputes over the final list of delegates and reconciliation efforts were central to the decision.

It was also learnt that the party is weighing its options with regards to its desire to build consensus among aspirants.“A top-ranking member of the party leadership who spoke in confidence said, “This is politics, we need to reduce friction as much as possible, we intend to build consensus so that the primaries and the national convention will be as rancour-free as possible.“He equally said, “We are mindful of happenings in the other party and we intend to put our house in order before going into the convention.”

“Under the former timetable, the primaries for the State Houses of Assembly were to hold on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, Senatorial, May 18, 2022, Governorship primaries were scheduled to hold on Monday, May 23, 2022.

The Presidential primary is to hold on May, 28-29, 2022.“However, the National Working Committee of the party in a letter dated May 16, 2023, which was addressed to the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. bet365 عربي Mahmood Yakubu announced an extension.“In the letter titled: “Further Extension of dates for Party Congresses/primaries.

“The National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, said, “The National Working Committee (NWC), of the Official Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria has extended the dates for party congresses/primaries as follows:“ 1. استراتيجيات الروليت State House of Assembly – Saturday, May 21, 2022,  House of Representatives – Sunday, May 22, 2022,  Senate – Monday, May 23, 2022, Governorship – Wednesday, May 25, 2022.” The party chairman enjoined all party members, leaders and critical stakeholders to take note.

“It was also learnt that a member of the convention planning committee and Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, reached out to his former boss, Ex-President GoodLuck Jonathan to get him to attend the convention.“Jonathan has not attended any PDP event since he lost the 2015 Presidential election. Should he attend this convention, it would be his first in over seven years.

“The former President has been dogged by controversies over his alleged romance with the ruling All Progressives Congress.“In a related development, Senator David Mark- led National Convention Planning Committee, on Tuesday, inspected facilities at the Velodrome of the Mashood Abiola Stadium, the proposed venue for the Convention. ربح فلوس

Tinubu To Dump APC For SDP If… – Associate

Tinubu To Dump APC For SDP If… – Associate
Bola Tinubu

Former Lagos state governor and Presidential hopeful on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Bola Tinubu has concluded plans to dump the ruling party, if the May 30 primaries are schemed against him, an associate of the former Lagos state government has said.

The associate who spoke on the condition of anonymity told Vanguard that the development was the reason former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal stated recently that Tinubu had plan B if APC primaries are manipulated against him.

Although, he noted that APC remains the primary platform Tinubu intends to actualize his dream of presiding over the affairs of the nation; other options including the SDP would be explored if the primaries come short of transparency and credibility.

“It is too early to ask if Asiwaju would leave the APC for another party. He is a big factor in APC, a party he helped formed, financed and nurtured into what it is today. We are not unaware of recent developments and attempts to insult a man who has paid his dues in the political evolution of this country. But that is not important for now. What I can tell you is that our leader, like other contestants, is looking forward to a credible process that would lead to the emergence of our flag bearer. But if that process is compromised, I can tell you for free that we will encourage him to explore other options.

“Yes, a lot has been said about SDP and Asiwaju. When we get to that bridge, we will cross it. SDP offered him a platform to become a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria years ago but for now, he is in APC and will remain there until circumstance dictates otherwise,” he said.

Tinubu is gunning for the sole ticket of the party alongside other formidable contestants such as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Rotimi Amaechi, Ogbonayya Onu, Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello among others. In an interview with the media a few months ago, President Muhammadu Buhari had said that he would not reveal the identity of his preferred successor, lest he be eliminated.

Only recently APC chieftain and until recently a Presidential aspirant, Moses Ayom called on Babachir Lawal to withdraw his comment on Tinubu’s possible defection, labelling same as a threat to the Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee, saying “right now, the NWC is the leadership of the APC and it should be given all kinds of support to succeed. The idea of indirectly threatening the NWC that Tinubu has another option if he is not given ticket should not arise at all. As a committed APC leader from the Middle-Belt, I call on Babachir to withdraw the comments and apologize to the party immediately.”

Ebem Ohafia Community Groans As Gully Erosion Menace Worsens, Eze's Palace Under Threat (Photos, Video

A pro-democracy and environmental rights advocacy group, Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy and Development, FENRAD, has called on the federal and state government to quickly intervene and provide succour to the people Ebem Ohafia in Ohafia local government area of Abia State following the ravaging erosion in the community.

Ebem Ohafia Erosion: Intervention Better Than Condolences, FENRAD Tells FG, Abia Govt, Others

The advocacy group says this call has become important as the effect of the erosion is felt across the landscape of Ebem, even as the home of the paramount ruler of the community comes under heavy threat.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by the Executive Director, Comrade Nelson Nnanna Nwafor and Head Corporate Accountability and Human Rights Enforcement, Barr. Akande Femisi FENRAD says the community houses notable government establishments, including military facilities, urging the state, federal governments as well as elected officials of government representing the community to ensure that further damage is not done in the community following the erosion.

The release partly reads, “Ebem Ohafia, FENRAD laments, hosts a lot of critical federal establishments, including a military base – Goodluck Jonathan Barrack, 14 Brigade and as well as the 145 Battalion of the Nigeria Army (NA) – known generally as the third-largest military base in Nigeria. This disaster is beyond the people, their traditional or paramount ruler and requires mitigative action/control to address what would be a future menace, FENRAD observed!

“FENRAD by this release also reaches out to: Abia State Government under His Excellency Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD; the state Emergency Management Agency, SEMA; members representing Ohafia North and South state constituencies; member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Honourable Uko Nkole; Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, MON, representing Abia North and other stakeholders in the polity to see to the end of this ugly threat even if it requires leveraging the ecological fund.

“FENRAD believes intervention is better than condolences and prayers, the Foundation raises its voice in this SOS call on the relevant authorities saying: “Come over to Ebem and help us!””

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Tuesday, arrested, quizzed and detained a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Patricia Etteh.

As at when filing this report, the former lawmaker was being interrogated for allegedly receiving a suspicious N130 million payment from a contractor the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) awarded a solar-powered electrification project in Akwa Ibom State.

The said contract was awarded to a certain Phin Jin Project Limited in 2011 for N240 million. It was not clear if the company is registered with Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission.

One of the investigators explained that weeks after the contractor was paid the mobilisation fee for the project, N130 million was transferred to Mrs Etteh who is neither a director nor a shareholder of the company on record.

He stated: “The payment of that huge amount to her is suspicious. She is claiming the contractor repaid a debt due to her but that is doubtful. So her claims are being scrutinised.

“They even overpaid for the contract. Instead of N240 million, they paid N287 million. These are knotty issues she and the contractor need to explain and that is why she is being interrogated by operatives.”

Mrs Etteh, who was Speaker between June 6, 2007, and 30 October 30, 2007, was arrested in Abuja on Tuesday by operatives of the Special Duty Unit of the anti-graft agency, those familiar with the matter said.

The EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, could not be reached for comments last night.

Abia PDP Secretary Iro Suspended

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said Abia State PDP is yet to conduct its adhoc delegate election, contrary to claims by a section of the party in the state that it held its ward congress on May 6th 2022,

INEC’s position is contained in a letter written to the Wadata House, the headquarters of the People’s Democratic Party, Abuja informing them that no three man ad-hoc delegates Congress Held in Abia State.

This puts to rest speculations on whether or not the three man delegates elections held in Abia.

In response to inquiry made by Dioka Stan & Co, Solicitor/Partner, the electoral umpire in a letter signed by its Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony said Abia PDP had not conducted its three man ad-hoc delegates congress.

The Commission said, “Pease refer to your letter dated 11th may, 2022 requesting confirmation if the commission is in receipt of a letter from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman and National Secretary that rescheduled the party’s Abia State Ward Congresses that failed to hold on the 4th of May, 2022.

“This is to confirm that the last notice received from the PDP National Headquarters was the one that scheduled the Abia State Ward Congresses for 4th May, 2022.”

Recall that the three man ad-hoc delegates elections was meant to hold in the 17 Local Government Areas of the state in preparation for the main primaries.

It however did not hold as INEC cited public holidays as reasons for postponing the elections.

The election which was shifted to a later date did not hold as some aggrieved members of the party were alleged to have gotten a court injunction to stop the election from holding.

I'm In Governorship Race To Amend Where PDP Has Failed Abians — Dr. Orji (VIDEO)
Dr. Sampson Orji

An aspirant for governorship of Abia State in the 2023 general elections, Dr. Sampson Orji has said he is in the race to make amendment and right the wrongs of his party the PDP since it took over leadership in the state in 1999.

According to the former Commissioner and House of Assembly member, the PDP has wronged the people in enormous ways, noting that he is vying for governorship of the state to bring changes where the party has failed.

Featuring in Open Parliament, a Love FM political programme in Umuahia on Tuesday monitored by ABN TV, Dr. Orji, better known as SCOURJ while admitting that the PDP has not got all things right in the leadership of the state enumerated unpaid salaries of workers, accumulated pension arrears, deficient infrastructure, unpaid teachers’ salaries and many others.

He insisted that his party the PDP has failed in many ways in the state which has engineered the growing quest by opposition political parties to take over the state.

Let’s say the truth, if PDP has done all well from the beginning 1999 till now, everybody would have been clapping for us. There will be no space for any other person wanting to contest from any other party.

“You will agree with me that what is going on in the state is something that has stirred a lot of controversy over who takes the reins of governance in the state.

“All that is pointing to the failure in one way or another of the governance presided over by the PDP. So we will be doing disservice to ourselves and the people if we say all has been uhuru from the day we took over.

“It became even worse when we lost the centre. When we lost the centre, some of those interventions that should have been coming from the federal government were no longer coming,” he said.

He said some roads in the state are in dilapidated state, noting that they only require attention, a situation that informed his opinion that the party has not not it all right.

FG Urges Facebook, Others To Censor Hate Speech By IPOB

The Federal Government has urged Facebook and other social media platforms not to yield their platforms to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to incite violence and ethnic hatred.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, made the plea in Abuja on Tuesday at a meeting with a team from Facebook.

Mohammed, in a statement by his media aide, Segun Adeyemi, said since IPOB had been proscribed and classified as a terrorist organisation, Facebook has no justification to continue allowing the organisation use of it’s platform to further its campaign of hate and destabilisation of the country.

He said: “I have called this meeting to enable us to discuss the increasing use of Facebook by separatists and anarchists, especially those of them based outside the country, to instigate violence and ethnic hatred in Nigeria.

“For whatever reason, they seem to have now chosen Facebook as their platform of choice. And their tools include disinformation, incendiary statements and hate speech. They use Facebook broadcasts to reach their followers, who are in thousands. They tag those opposed to their violent ways as ‘saboteurs’ who must be attacked, maimed and killed. They use both English and their local language as it suits them.”

He said the actions of the proscribed group have real-life implications, adding: ”By purveying hate and inciting violence, people are getting killed while private and public property are being attacked and destroyed. Security agencies and other symbols of government are their choice targets.”

The Minister said despite the numerous complaints to Facebook about the activities of IPOB, nothing has been done by the company to curtail the group’s excesses on the social media platform.

Our social media people have been monitoring these separatists, anarchists and purveyors of hate, and have been reporting their atrocious actions to Facebook, but all they get are default responses that their complaints have been received and are being looked into.

“Most often than not, nothing is done about such complaints. The truth is that whatever Facebook is doing to check these people is mere tokenism and is totally ineffective,” he said.

Mohammed said the government would be monitoring Facebook and other platforms closely in the days ahead to ensure compliance with the demand as it steps up the campaign for the responsible use of social media.

Any Negotiations With Russia Are “Suspended” Because Of Moscow’s Mindset, Ukrainian Official Says

Four Ukraine Regions To Be Taken Over After Referendum Results Was Made Public

Negotiations with Russia on resolving the conflict have been suspended, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

It was because “Russia is still in its stereotypical mindset,” he said on Ukrainian television Tuesday, adding that Russia doesn’t realize that the war “is no longer going on according to the rules, their plans, and schedule.”

Since the two delegations met in Istanbul, “there’s no significant changes, no progress,” he said. “The resistance of Ukraine, the professional resistance just grows, that’s why there’s no way Russia achieves its goals.”

Podolyak also rejected any territorial concessions.

“The war will not end if we give some of our territories there. This is not acceptable for Ukraine, and it will not be accepted by Ukrainian society. Minsk-2 could be signed by another president. President Zelensky will not sign it. Because any Minsk-2 is a postponement of the war, even more destructive, for example, in a year or two,” he said.

Minsk-2 would have accorded significant autonomy to the territory in the east that has been under the control of Russian-backed separatists since 2014.

Meanwhile, Russian state news agency reported Tuesday that Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko confirmed negotiations are not happening, but he reportedly said it’s because Kyiv withdrew from the process.

Kyiv did not provide a response to the draft treaty proposed by Russia, Rudenko added.

The decision of the foreign ministers of the EU member states to allocate another 500 million euros ($527 million) to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund for weapon purchases is prolonging the conflict, according to Rudenko.

EXCLUSIVE: How APC Plots Zoning Presidency To North East, Reveals What South West, South East Will Get

Fresh facts have emerged on how decision makers in governing All Progressives Congress (APC) may have agreed on a zoning arrangement for the positions in party and government at national level.

A reliable source within the party in Abuja said after initial hiccups, the North-East is favoured to produce the next presidential candidate of the party. The South-South or South-West is said to have been listed for the running mate ticket.

The Senate Presidency, said the source, is billed to return to the South-East, while the North-West is scheduled for the Speakership slot.

Others are Deputy Senate President (North Central), Deputy Speaker (South South/South West), Senate Leader (North West), House Leader (South East), SGF (South West/South South).

On why the Senate President was zoned to the South-East, the source said “The decision was reached since the National Chairman of our party is from the North-Central geo-political zone. It is a balanced arrangement.”

The arrangement mirrors what the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the ruling party in 1999 presented as a governance outlook with Olusegun Obasanjo from the South-West as president. His deputy then, Atiku Abubakar, is from Adamawa in North-East.

Now-late Evan Enwerem, the first Senate President, was from the South East. The disgraced first Speaker, Salisu Buhari, is from Kano, North-West.

Though Enwerem and Buhari were booted out of office for forgery, the slots remained in the two zones for the eight years Obasanjo and SouthWest kept the presidency.

Recall that the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, is a frontline presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, APC, from the North-East geo-political zone.

He said to be backed by prominent members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, spearheaded by the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

Governors Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and Hope Uzodinma of Imo Friday led some senators to return the presidential nomination forms for the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan.

The forms were submitted at the national secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC.

Addressing journalists, the Imo governor said; “Like you know most of us here are from the national assembly, some serving some are non -serving. Particularly like me I left the senate on sabbatical to go and contest election in Imo state and I’m on borrowed status in Imo State as the governor. Today we are here in solidarity to accompany our leader the Senate President to submit his duly completed form and we have submitted the forms”.

On why he thinks the Senate President is the best for the job, Uzodinma said; “In the Police, it is called esprit de corps”.
