Kidnappers Gun Down Six Kano Residents, Abduct Village Head

Less than 24 hours after killing Hon. Okechukwu Okoye, the lawmaker who represented Aguata II constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, unknown gunmen have threatened to murder more Anambra lawmakers.

Okoye was abducted in Aguata on May 15, but his head was found in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, on Saturday.

A resident of Nnobi told our correspondent that a note was dropped beside the head of Okoye which was dumped by the roadside.

“In the note, the killers vowed that more heads would roll. The letter was not to clear due to raindrops, but it started with the word “warning”.

“At some point, it read, ‘everywhere you go, you cannot hide anywhere. We will go after you one by one because soldiers and police is (sic) no longer our problem.”

Killings and arson have been on the rise in the state since March 17 when Prof Charles Soludo was sworn in as the governor of the state.

No fewer than four local government headquarters in the state and several police stations had been attacked and set ablaze within the period.

Meanwhile, some Anambra communities have alleged that “unknown gunmen” have set up camps in their areas.

According to messages circulating on social media, the criminal elements have created a new camp in Unubi, Nnewi South Local Government Area, from where they launch attacks on indigenes.

Also, an unsigned message circulating on social media gave an account of how the men attacked some residents in Igboukwu community, along Obiuno-Ekwulumili road last Friday.

“The armed gang have created a new Operational Camp in the Unubi bush, a town located in Nnewi South Local government Council of Anambra State.”

“On Friday evening, 20th of May, 2022 at about 5:50 pm unknown gunmen laid siege along the road, specifically at Ugwumba Bus Stop, in search of the owner of a Lexus Rx330 who allegedly succeeded in escaping from his car.

“The Lexus owner quickly alighted from the car after driving it into the gutter at Ugwumba Bus stop and ran into Ezechibuike’s home, that situates around the bus stop, through which he fled.

“However, the unidentified gunmen said to be numbering more than ten on arrival at the bus stop discovered that the owner of the car had left, so they laid siege to Ugwumba bus stop for an upward duration of an hour and commanded all the road users this evening to lie face down while they were busy conducting a search of the Lexus owner.”

Indigenes of Igboukwu and Unubi in the diaspora were advised not to be in a hurry to return to the village.

An indigene of Ezinifitte, in same local government area, said youths had deserted the community for fear of being forcefully conscripted into armed gangs.

Our reporter could not reach the Anambra State Police command’s spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, for reaction as his phone was switched off at the time of filing this report.

Abia PDP Secretary Iro Suspended

All is not well with the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as several House of Assembly aspirants and House of Representative aspirants are withdrawing from the primaries of the party while concluding plans to head to court.

The state chapter of the party had been engulfed in multiple crisis regarding the controversial election of 3-man ad-hoc delegates. Several stakeholders within the party had kicked against the purported election, insisting that it never took place.

Among them is the governorship aspirants led by the Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe who at a press conference in Abuja stated that the three-man delegate election never held in Abia State.

This contradicts the position of the state chairman of the party by Rt. Hon. Asiforo Okere who insists that the election held

They have further approached a state high court where they obtained an injunction mandating PDP and INEC to recognize the said controversial three-man ad-hoc delegate list.

PDP is left with only the three-man delegate list to determine their candidates in the primaries is line with the amended Electoral Act.

Several aspirants have expressed dissatisfaction as they feel that the process of electing the three-man delegates in Abia was was not line with laid down rules.

In a statement earlier, INEC revealed that it was not informed on any shift in date of the three-man ad-hoc delegate election after the first one could not hold.

INEC was to be given seven days’ notice for a rescheduled election and are also expected to observe the process in line with the existing Electoral Act.

Those who have dropped their ambitions and preparing for a legal showdown are,

Rotr Chukwuemeka Onyenucheya – Withdrew from Ikwuano State Constituency race

Tony Williams – Withdrew from Obingwa/Ugwunagbo/Osisioma Federal Constituency race

Ebere Nwankwo – Withdrew from Umunneochi State Constituency race

Chijioke Chukwu Esq – Bende Federal Constituency withdrew from race

Honorable Ubani Dannie – Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency race

Honorable Amaechi Hanson – Obingwa west state constituency race

Prominent House of Assembly member, Honorable Ginger Onwusibe representing Isiala Ngwa North state constituency was equally denied ticket of the party. Ginger who had earlier planned to contest for Isiala Ngwa North & South federal constituency seat withdrew his aspiration and reverted back to the assembly seat to make way for the rumored anointed gubernatorial aspirant who hails from the same LGA with him.

Some of the aspirants stated above, most of them described the three-man delegate list as a sham and are set to contest the process in the court of law.

PDP Primary: UK Polling Shows Bala Mohammed’s Victory

In less than a week, the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] will conduct its presidential primaries to select its presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential elections. Already, the presidential aspirants, in the last few weeks, had traversed the many regions of the country interacting with delegates of the PDP seeking for their votes.

A recent poll was conducted by a United Kingdom based non-governmental organization – Data Analytics UK – probing the possible outcome of the PDP primary of the five aspirants through scientific sampling of the delegates.

Using standard modeling practices, Data Analytics UK evaluated each aspirant on six parameters to decipher Authenticity, Acceptability, Accessibility, Integrity, Amiability and Mental soundness.
