Why I Dumped PDP, Withdrew From Presidential Race – Peter Obi

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party. He also announced his withdrawal from the race for the party’s presidential ticket.

Director General of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organisation, Dr. Doyin Okupe, made this public after submitting a copy of Obi’s resignation letter to the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Okupe noted that his aspirant took the decision following recent happenings within the party.

Obi had in the latter titled: “Resignation From Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Withdrawal from the Presidential Contest,” which he addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Sen. Iyiochia Ayu, dated May 24, 2022, said he had already notified the party Chairman at the ward level. لعبة كازينو

He wrote, “I am writing to intimate you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was conveyed to the Chairman of Agulu Ward 2. Anaocha LGA.

“Anambra, effective Friday 20 May, 2022. Consequently, am by this letter informing you of my withdrawal for the PDP Presidential Primaries.

“It has been a great honour to contribute to nation-building efforts through our party. لعبه القمار روليت Unfortunately, recent developments within our party make it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions.

“Our national challenges are deep-seated and require that we each make profound sacrifices towards rescuing our country. My commitment to rescuing Nigeria remains firm, even if the route differs.

Although he gave no reason for his action, it was gathered that the decision of the national body to address the concerns of his supporters in Anambra State before the party’s delegate election was largely responsible.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s anointed successor, Prof. Uche Ikonne has won the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Abia State, ABN TV reports.

Shortly before the election on Wednesday which took place at Umuahia township stadium, several aspirants, including the deputy governor of the state, Ude Oko Chukwu, Senator representing Abia South, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, Hon. Chima Anyaso and others.

They had cited irregularities and alleged imposition of delegates, stating that it is in contravention with the Electoral Act and constitution of the PDP. شرح موقع bet365

According to the aspirants, the Abia State chapter of PDP never held any congress to elect the 3-man ad-hoc delegates who voted at the governorship primary election.

They had vowed the challenge the alleged irregularities in court.

Emeka I.U Kalu who is a former chairman of Ohafia local government stated this shortly after returning his duly completed Action People’s Party (APP) nomination and expression of interest forms on Tuesday at the party’s secretariat in u. Umuahia.

He said the House of Assembly is meant for people who can think,people who are educated and can make laws, stating that having been one time local Government chairman he has come to restore the dignity of ohafia people adding that the action people’s party is made up of people with integrity who have a good vision for the state.

“I will pilot the affairs of my constituency with the best of my knowledge,The legacies by dignities which are kept aside in ohafia will be restored through me”.He said haven been a local government chairman he won’t resist to always carry the youth along because he specialize in employment law and will push further for it to be implemented by the Governor in which the youths will benefit from as the future leaders.

He said as a lawmaker he will not condole bad governance rather will always have the people at heart to make sure that they are living happily well adding that he has all it takes to restore the dignity of the people and he joined the party because he wants peace of mind as the party is known for peace not violence.

Speaking earlier the party state chairman Chief Sylvernus Nwaji said the aspirant is the kind of person that the party needs to emerge as leader in the house to make a change in the state adding that he is sure the constituency belongs to the party.

Nwaji said the crisis in other parties is as a result of bad governance and that APP is a party from the grassroot which is known for peace.The APP party came up as the alternative the state is looking for to give the people good governance they have been desiring for in the state adding that the party produces good leaders that will bring total change in Abia.

He went ahead to highlight the value of the forms of the party adding that it is affordable so as to allow who has what it takes to develop to the state to have it without stress;for house of assembly 500,000, National Assembly 1.5million while for Senate cost 2million.stating that if a vibrant youth is seen as someone that will bring change in the state and can’t afford for the form will be given free to such person.The party needs people with the fear of God that will take Abia to a greater height.The party wants credibility and action so they won’t accept anyone from other party that will come to bring disunity in the party without being screened properly.

Abia PDP Holds Governorship Primary Election Today Amidst Tight Security

Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP will today hold its governorship primary election ahead of 2023 general elections.

Security agencies comprising of the Nigerian Army and Police have blocked all the entrances into the Umuahia Township stadium, venue of the primaries.

An SUV belonging to security agencies was sighted parked along Azikiwe by school road, as well as a police van along Ikot ekpene by School road junction and an army truck at the Abia hotel end of the road.

The traffic on the adjoining roads is congested as pupils and workers are experiencing a hard time accessing their school and workplaces respectively.

Venue of the primary election, Umuahia Township Stadium is wearing a new look as delegates are set to cast their ballots.

Recall that the Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe had announced his withdrawal from the primary election, saying Abia State chapter of PDP never held any congress to elect adhoc delegates.

Court Shifts Date For Continuation Of Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial

Federal High Court in Abuja has shifted date for the continuation of trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

His trial was earlier adjourned till May 26 for ruling/hearing.

A release on Wednesday by the IPOB Lead Counsel, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Esq says the Registrar of Federal High Court has notified him that the court will no longer sit as the judge, Justice Binta Nyako is indisposed.

He is therefore to appear in court on Saturday, June 28, 2022.

He also urged the supporters of Nnamdi Kanu to maintain restraint as they have always done and keep their eye on the ball which is the freedom of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

He said, “Please be informed that we have just received communication from the Federal High Court’s Registrar, notifying us that the Court will no longer be sitting tomorrow, 26th May, 2022, on Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case.

“According to the Registrar, this is because His lordship, Justice Binta Nyako is indisposed, and as such, the matter is now adjourned to the 28th day of June, 2022 for Ruling/Hearing.

“We most respectfully, urge you all to maintain restraint, as you have always done. Keep your eyes on the ball, which is the freedom of Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“Also, please note that Justice delayed is not justice denied. We are aggressively cruising to victory, it is only a matter of time.

“We profoundly appreciate your solidarity, unflinching support and prayers, which have been sustaining us thus far. Please do not relent in your prayers, we do not take it for granted.

Abia Deputy Gov. Oko Chukwu Withdraws From PDP Governorship Primary Election

Deputy governor of Abia State and governorship aspirant, Dr. Ude Oko Chukwu has announced his withdrawal from the party’s guber primary election taking place today in Umuahia, citing non adherence to extant laws.

He said there was no congress of the PDP in Abia which produced the 3-man ad-hoc delegates who have been mobilised to elect a governorship candidate, insisting that this contradicts Electoral Act 2022 as well as constitution of the People’s Democratic Party PDP.

In a statement on Wednesday, the deputy governor reiterated that stakeholders and governorship aspirants in the state had earlier informed the national leadership of the PDP that there was not ad-hoc delegate election in the state, wondering why an action has not been taken.

He cautioned that if a proper congress to produce ad-hoc delegates for the election is not conducted, it will be detrimental to the PDP in the upcoming general election.

He said, “Greetings and best wishes. You may recall that a fortnight ago, I joined other frontine PDP Gubernatorial Aspirants in Abia State to petition against the generation of a list of three (3) ad-hoc delegates list without an election contrary to the PDP constitution and the guidelines.

“We unequivocally stated the obvious that no such exercise was conducted here in Abia. It is equally obvious that the purported list and its generation is a flagrant violation of relevant provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, INEC guidelines and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as Amended.

“Ordinarily, such weighty petition signed by stakeholders and aspirants in the Party should have raised serious concern to the National Leadership of the Party considering the legal consequences associated with the whole process and the entire exercise.

“Seeking to build on a faulty foundation that must surely collapse in the face of legal experiment as orchestrated by you is a calamity waiting to happen. It is on the foregoing thatI state that no sane person least of all, some of us that are committed members of our Party should be part of this violation of our Party Constitution called primary elections for governorship positions which for all Intent and purposes is a sham.

“I cant be a party to what I had earlier discredited knowing that same would amount to a nullity at the fullness of time. I therefore urge the Leadership of our Party to do the needful by holding a valid Congress which will lead to the holding of a lawful Gubernatorial Primary Election to avert the looming danger that is daring us as a Party. The earlier, the better.”

The United Kingdom government on Wednesday approved the £4.25bn takeover of Premier League club Chelsea by a consortium led by LA Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly.

Chelsea was put up for sale in March in the aftermath of Russia invasion of Ukraine.

Russian businessman Roman Abramovich put up the club for sale before he was sanctioned by the government over his claimed links to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

On Tuesday, the Premier League said the consortium had passed its owners’ and directors’ test.

Chelsea have been operating under a special government licence which expires on 31 May.

“Late last night the UK government reached a position where we could issue a licence that permits the sale of Chelsea,” a government spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday.

“The government does not want Abramovich to receive any of the proceeds from the sale, which will instead go into a frozen bank account to be donated to charity.

The statement added: “Following the sanctioning of Roman Abramovich, the government has worked hard to ensure Chelsea has been able to continue to play football. But we have always been clear that the long-term future of the club could only be secured under a new owner.

“Following extensive work, we are now satisfied that the full proceeds of the sale will not benefit Roman Abramovich or any other sanctioned individual. We will now begin the process of ensuring the proceeds of the sale are used for humanitarian causes in Ukraine, supporting victims of the war.

“The steps today will secure the future of this important cultural asset and protect fans and the wider football community. We have been in discussions with relevant international partners for necessary licences required and we thank them for all their cooperation.”

Presidential aspirant in the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi has called on eligible Nigerians to grab their Permanent Voters Card (PVC), before the registration elapses.

The former Anambra governor who is seeking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential ticket to run in the 2023 election, urged Nigerians to get registered as required by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to enable them to exercise their franchise.

DAILY POST reports that while online registration for the PVC may end on May 30, physical registration is expected to elapse in June.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the PDP presidential aspirant asked his teaming supporters to ensure their data is captured before the deadline.

He wrote, “Fellow Nigerians, to exercise your constitutional right to elect leaders of your choice, you must vote. To vote, you must be registered.

“INEC PVC online and Physical Registration end on 30th May and 30th June, respectively. Don’t miss the deadlines”.
