The Ukrainian winners of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest have announced they’ve sold their trophy for $900,000, with funds going toward buying drones for their country’s military.

Kalush Orchestra was presented with the crystal microphone trophy earlier this month after winning this year’s contest, beating competition from main rivals the United Kingdom and Spain.

The winning bid for the trophy was attributed to WhiteBIT, a cryptocurrency exchange. WhiteBIT said that the purpose of the online auction was to raise one million euros ($1,077,000) to buy three PD-2 drones for the Ukrainian armed forces.

You are incredible,” the folk-rap group wrote on Instagram.

We are grateful to each of you who donated funds for this auction and especially grateful to the @whitebit_ua team who bought the trophy for $900,000.”

The band will also tour Europe to raise funds for the needs of the army and charitable foundations of Ukraine, the band’s frontman Oleg Psyuk said earlier this month.

Speculation on Putin’s health has been circulating for a while, with the Kremlin often denying rumors of ailments.

[OPINION] Ikuku Oma Abia: Wiping Away Tears, Restoring Hope
Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji
As the good people of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency continue to jubilate over the emergence of Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji MNSE as the PDP candidate for their Constituency at the 2023 general elections, they no doubt expect great things from the current Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly when he gets to Abuja as their representative.

Such huge expectations, without any iota of doubt, is normal given the antecedents of Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji in constantly reaching out to his constituents and bringing succour to them when and where needed.

I make bold to say that there is hardly any lawmaker in the entire country, not to talk of a Speaker, who flings his doors wide open for his constituents to regularly have access to him, freely interact with him, feel their pulse and do everything within his power to provide solutions to their needs whether as individuals, groups or communities. He makes out time despite his tight schedules as Speaker to attend events, stand in soidarity with celebrants both high and low, support the weak and needy, rejoicung with those who rejoice and mourning with those who mourn; a compassionate, caring and considerate leader. He is, indeed, the epitome of leadership with a human touch.

In opening his doors to his constituents, class is not a consideration even though he is a man of class, nor status a requirement even though destiny has bestowed upon him a princely status; the people are just the people who require quality and people-oriented leadership from their representatives, and Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji has been providing that: from scholarships to business start-up capital; from quality laws, bills and motions to quality empowerment and employment; from providing people-oriented projects to installing community enhancing facilities, he has proved beyond reasonable doubt that leadership can truly be used to serve the people’s interests.

As we march towards 2023, and given a higher pedestal for service, the Abia Speaker will surely deploy his skills as a Lawmaker of several years’ experience to bring even greater good not only to his immediate constituency of Ikwuano/Umuahia but also to the entire Abia State.

The ministry said Colonna’s visit is to demonstrate France’s solidarity with Ukrainian people and to strengthen its support for Ukraine, “both in humanitarian and financial terms and in terms of supplying defense equipment.”

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced a three-year gas deal with Russia in an interview with Serbian TV channel Pink on Sunday, calling the deal “advantageous” for his country.

Vucic said Serbia will sign another three-year deal with Russian state energy provider Gazprom after the current 10-year gas deal expires on Monday.

This is hands down the cheapest price in all of Europe. What we agreed to, (Russian President Vladimir) Putin and I, is very advantageous for Serbia, and so we will sign another contract, the first part, which is a three-year contract,” Vucic said.

On Sunday, Putin and Vucic discussed natural gas supplies to the Balkan country, according to RIA Novosti, the Russian state-owned news agency, which quoted the Kremlin as saying that Russia had agreed to “continue to supply uninterrupted natural gas to Serbia.”

Serbia is not a member of the European Union or NATO.

It is almost entirely dependent on Russian gas, while its army maintains ties with Russia’s military.

Although the country backed two United Nations resolutions condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it refused to impose sanctions against Moscow.

German Chancellor Admits Anti-Russian Sanctions Entail Losses For German Economy

German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz

In his speech at the opening of the Hannover Messe trade fair on Sunday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz admitted that anti-Russian sanctions come at a cost for the German economy.

“They [the sanctions] are hitting the Russian leadership and the Russian economy hard, and it gets harder and harder every day,” Scholz said. “Simultaneously, we are making sure that they [sanctions] don’t hit us and our partners in Europe harder than Russia.”

“It’s a good thing that businesses support this policy. I know that it entails economic losses for many companies. We are trying to prevent a more serious damage with the help of loans, premiums and targeted aid packages,” he continued. “Despite this, losses are still a reality. But I will say that those losses are way smaller than the price that we will have to pay if [Russian President Vladimir] Putin succeeds.”

In his words, Germany’s goal was to have the conflict in Ukraine ended as soon as possible.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a special military operation in response to a request for help from the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aimed to demilitarize and denazify the country. The US and its allies responded with severe sanctions and ramped up weapons supplies to Kiev.

Taraba APC Guber Primary: CAN Condemns Islamic Cleric’s Statement

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba State chapter, on Sunday, condemned in strong terms a viral video where an Islamic cleric was heard urging Muslims in the State to stand and take over political power.

Rev. Isaiah Magaji-Jirapye, the State CAN Chairman, in a statement, said CAN viewed it as a calculated plot to set the stage on fire.

He blamed the development on outside forces that are not happy with the peace Taraba is enjoying.

According to Rev. Jirapye, “The State has a long-standing history of religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence between Christians and Muslims.”

He said, “The attention of the Taraba State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has been drawn to several video clips of Islamic Clerics from outside Taraba State, threatening religious war and the establishment of a sharia Islamic government in Taraba over the recent APC governorship primaries in the State, in which a Christian, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha was announced the winner.”

According to CAN, the messages of those clerics stood condemned by all reasonable individuals and called for their immediate arrest.

The State CAN further urge the APC to settle their party issues without bringing in religion.

The statement emphasized that CAN is not a partisan organization but observed with dismay the threats on Christians in Taraba State and an attempt to instigate religious unrest by some Islamic Clerics from across Nigeria.

It stated that well-meaning Nigerians are shocked that a purely political party affair could be given a religious coloration and segregation capable of destabilizing the entire nation.

The statement called on intelligence agencies and the Federal Government to expedite actions and apprehend and prosecute the individuals in the said video.
