Pump prices just took another big step in the wrong direction.

The US national average for regular gasoline climbed by five cents on Wednesday to a fresh record of $4.67 a gallon, according to AAA.

That leaves gas prices up by 48 cents in the past month alone.

It is now 32% higher to fill up your tank than it was the day before Russia invaded Ukraine.

Seven states now average $5 or higher, with Illinois becoming the latest to join that unpopular club, according to AAA. New York and Arizona are just pennies away from the $5 threshold. The average in California now stands at $6.19 a gallon.

No states have an average of $4.15 or lower, with George coming in at the lowest with $4.16.

Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates, said he expects the national average to hit $4.75 in the next 10 days.

Oil prices, the biggest component of pump prices, continue to move higher.

Brent crude, the world benchmark, gained 1% on Tuesday to close at the highest level in nearly three months. Brent is up another 1.2% Wednesday morning. The gains come after Europe agreed to phase out 90% of Russian oil imports by the end of the year.

The national average for regular gas is now 44 cents higher than on the day US President Joe Biden announced the largest-ever release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in late March.

Putin And Zelensky Could Meet Only To Finalize `Certain Document’ – Dmitry Peskov

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky could meet only to finalize “a certain document”, yet the two sides suspended work on it long ago, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday.

“No one could ever exclude such a meeting a priori, but arrangements for it should be made. Putin and Zelensky could meet only to finalize a certain document, yet work on it was suspended rather long ago and has never been resumed,” Peskov said.

In response to a question about whether Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Turkey on June 8 would be related to a potential meeting in Istanbul between Moscow, Kiev and the United Nations, Peskov said that these would be “single-context” events.

“Therefore, there is an indirect connection between the events, indeed,” he said. “Yet there is still no clear-cut vision with regard to a meeting (between Russian, Ukrainian and UN delegations – TASS),” the presidential spokesman said.

Nor is there an indication for Putin’s potential visit to Turkey, Peskov added. “There is an invitation, and the timing will be agreed via diplomatic channels,” he said, failing to give the exact date.

Russia will build up its strength and sovereignty in a rapidly changing world, President Vladimir Putin said in a video address on International Day for Protection of Children, which was featured at a Bolshoi Theater event dedicated to the date.

Putin extended his congratulations to parents, teachers, and pupils. “You are living and growing up in a very dynamic time when the world is changing, and it’s changing rapidly. I am confident that in this complicated world, Russia will only bolster its strength, independence and sovereignty,” Putin assured.

According to him, this “is not about working on some specific track.” “It covers the economy, technology, science and many other areas, as well as efforts to strengthen civil society and patriotic education. I believe that these activities also involve a strong civil society and the patriotic activities of the youth,” the head of state noted.

China opposes the policy of the US and a number of Western states on incitement of the conflict in Ukraine and considers it necessary to stop ramping up pressure on Russia via unilateral sanctions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said Wednesday.

“As for the situation in Ukraine, China […] insists that the US and other Western states stop fueling the fire and stop increasing unilateral sanctions [against Russia],” he underscored during a briefing.

The Chinese diplomat pointed out that Beijing “is using various channels” to maintain contacts with all interested sides.

“We call for a ceasefire and end of hostilities,” the diplomat underscored.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request for aid from Donbass republics. After that, the US, the EU, the UK and a number of other states said they impose sanctions against Russian citizens and companies.

2023: Pastor Tunde Bakare Speaks On Defeating Atiku

The serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church in Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has expressed optimism about defeating the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar if given the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket.

While addressing journalists, the presidential aspirant expressed satisfaction with the screening process.

He described the presidential candidate of the PDP as a worthy candidate.

According to him “The screening exercise went very well. Appropriate questions were asked about how we are going to fix the challenges facing our nation and appropriate answers were given to them.

“By God’s grace, we are pleased that we had something to offer this nation. In this critical moment in our history, nobody can say I have all the solutions. But we did say to them that we will assemble the best, brightest, and fittest from within the country, north, and south, and from outside of the country, those in the diaspora.

“The time has come for us to raise the foundation of many generations, to restore our path and ensure that our nation becomes great again.”

Benzema Named Champions League Player Of The Season

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has been named this season’s UEFA Champions League Player of the Season.

UEFA announced Benzema as the most valuable player on their official website UEFA.com.

“UEFA’s Technical Observer panel has named Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema as the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League Player of the Season.

“The French striker was a talismanic figure for Madrid as he drove them on to a record 14th European title, and his fifth since he joined from Lyon in 2009. Not only did Benzema hit double figures for Champions League goals in a single season for the first time in his career, but his final tally of 15 also earned him the top spot in the competition scoring charts. العاب مربحة على النت

“Remarkably, a joint-record ten of those goals came in the knockout stage, beginning with a decisive late hat-trick against Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16. سلوتس اون لاين

“He followed up with another treble away to Chelsea and then buried the extra-time winner to oust the holders in Spain, before a trio of goals against Manchester City in the semi-finals – including the extra-time penalty that capped a jaw-dropping comeback.

“Although Benzema did not add to his haul in the final, he now stands joint third with Robert Lewandowski in the all-time European Cup goals table.”

Also, the UEFA’s Technical Observer panel named Benzema’s Madrid teammate Vinícius Júnior as the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League Young Player of the Season.

Vinicius was the hero for Madrid after netting the winning goal in the 1-0 win against Liverpool in Saturday’s final. لعب الروليت

Troost-Ekong Speaks On Peseiro’s Coaching Philosophy; NPFL Players, Ecuador Friendly

William Troost-Ekong has provided a detailed explanation of the coaching philosophy of Nigeria’s head coach, Jose Peseiro.

The Super Eagles had their first outing under the Portuguese against the El Tri of Mexico last Sunday.

The three-time African champions struggled to get going in the first half but produced a superb attacking display after the break despite going down to a 2-1 defeat.

Peseiro expressed his love for attacking football after the game, and Troost-Ekong has corroborated former Venezuela’s style of play.

“He (Peseiro) wants attacking football from us. We played two different systems against Mexico. 3-5-2 in the first half, and then we switched to 4-4-2 in the second half. I think it suited the game better,” Troost-Ekong told NFF TV.

“What he wanted was for us to take initiative. We are a big team and have to take the game to the opponent, irrespective of the opponent we are up against.

“I think it was exciting to see. I’m really happy to get going in this new chapter. I’m looking forward to spending more time, to understand what he wants from us and improve.”

One positive from the defeat to Mexico was the involvement of home-based players.

Four of them featured as second-half substitutes in the game.

Faisal Sanni took the place of Innocent Bonke after the break, while Enyimba forward Victor Mbaoma replaced Terem Moffi in the 73rd minute.

Rivers United duo, Chiamaka Madu and Ishaq Rafiu also came in Cyriel Dessers and Moses Simon.

Troost-Ekong heaped plaudits on the players for performance in the game.

“I’m happy to see them have game time. They have been working hard in training. They all did well when they came on. They fit in nicely,” added Troost-Ekong.

“That’s a great compliment to the NPFL. The boys worked so hard to be here. That’s my key message to the boys.

“I know we are missing some of our regular players, but everyone who is here deserves to be here.

“To play for the Super Eagles, they have to take the opportunity, and they did just that.”

Troost-Ekong also reflected on adapting to change in the environment and the upcoming friendly against Ecuador

“We have adapted to the time zone. There is less problem now and we are looking forward to building on the performance against Mexico,” he stated.

“Ecuador is a dynamic team, difficult opponent. They play good football. It is a great chance for us to end things here with a win before we head back to Africa.”

“Peseiro A Top Professional We Enjoy Working With Him” – Salisu Yusuf

Jose Peseiro

The second assistant coach of the Super Eagles Salisu Yusuf has described new head coach Jose Peseiro as a top professional who they enjoy working with.

Peseiro was appointed the new Eagles head coach and took charge of his first game against Mexico which ended in a 2-1 defeat.

And despite just one game in charge, Yusuf spoke highly of the new head coach and the input of the assistant coaches against Mexico.

“It’s been great working with him,” Yusuf told NFF TV. “Before we resumed I had like two phone conversations with him concerning the list, concerning some players. He asked about the criteria of the home-based players I told him that he really appreciated it. He’s a top professional and we enjoy working with him.”

On the defeat against Mexico, Yusuf said: ”The first game was really tough both the first and second half. Everybody analyzed the game with him and he agreed to all our suggestions and we made changes to the system we played. And you can see we were more in the game in the second half because we controlled the game more. It’s team-building, it’s step by step and I believe we will have a good team.”

And commenting on the performance of the home-based players: ”We are really happy because the home-based had a chance to play, it’s good for the first time in the main team. It will go a long way to make them more confident, and more self-belief in themselves.

“And also it will make the other home-based players that are not here work hard because they know they have a chance if they are doing well in the league.”

The Eagles will be back in action in the early hours of Friday when they take on Ecuador.

This will be the first time both countries will meet at the men’s senior level.

2023 AFCON Qualifiers: “I Can’t Wait To Get Going” – Aribo

2023 AFCON Qualifiers: "I Can’t Wait To Get Going" – Aribo

2023 AFCON Qualifiers:

Super Eagles midfielder, Joe Aribo, says he is psyched up for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone and Mauritius.

Aribo, who has been in camp with the other Eagles players for international friendlies in the United States of America, played 90 minutes in Nigeria’s 2-1 defeat to Mexico at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, last weekend.

The 25-year-old had a very busy season with his Scottish club Rangers in the just concluded 2021/22 season, in which he made 56 appearances for the Light Blue and scored nine goals with 10 assists.

Speaking ahead of the Eagles’ next friendly game against Ecuador on June 2, the former Charlton Athletic of England attacking midfielder said he is excited that the games are almost here.

“I’m excited. We are ready to go. We want to win the games and I can’t wait to get going”, he told Brila FM in an interview on Tuesday.

On Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Aribo disclosed that it was personally difficult for him to digest.

“It was difficult for me to take. I came back to my club but it was with me for some time, but I just had to say to myself that God has a plan, it wasn’t to be for some reason, but we can’t question God; God knows the best”, he noted.

The Nigerian number 10 described his season as “good” and “long”, stating that he got great numbers in terms of statistics and performance.

Aribo and his team were chasing a treble but lost their league title defence to rivals Celtic, as well as the final of the UEFA Europa League to German club Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties. However, he won the Scottish Cup with his team.

“Firstly, I’ll say it’s a long one. I played a lot of games. But on a serious note, it was a good season. I got a lot of numbers like stat-wise, like say I wanted to get a bit more, especially from where I was from the start of the season compared to how many I got in the second half of the season, but a little bit disappointed because we couldn’t win the Europa League,” Aribo lamented.

Nigeria will face the Leone Stars on June 9, and Mauritius four days later.
