The Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II start today. No other monarch in British history has achieved 70 years of service.
The Queen, then aged 25, acceded to the throne on February 6, 1952 on the death of her father, King George VI.
She became the longest-reigning British monarch in 2015, beating the time spent on the throne by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, who ruled for 63 years, seven months.
To celebrate the unprecedented anniversary, a number of events have taken place around the UK this year. It all culminates in a four-day national bank holiday weekend from Thursday, June 2 until Sunday, June 5, known as the Platinum Jubilee Weekend.
The weekend will feature a variety of public events and community activities, as well as “national moments of reflection” on the Queen’s seven decades as sovereign, according to the palace. The Queen’s private estates — including Sandringham House and Balmoral Castle — are also joining in with jubilee themed events.
The upcoming celebrations will be the Queen’s first jubilee without her husband, Prince Philip, who died last year.
Bayo Onanuga has made some revelations regarding the lifestyle of Bola Tinubu during his years as a Nigerian Senator. In his recent interview with Arise News, the Director of Media & Communication of the Tinubu Campaign Organization claims that he has known Bola Tinubu since 1992.
Addressing the topic of his principal’s wealth, Bayo said, “Bola Tinubu was not a poor man when he entered politics, as he was very comfortable.” I have known him since 1992. موقع 365 He was a senator, and as a senator, Bola Tinubu lived in the Hilton Hotel, where he had a suite to himself. قمار
Bayo also addressed the issue of Bola Tinubu’s age by saying, “Bola Tinubu has proven that age is not a factor in this election.” What we have upstairs is more important. Ahead of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential primary election, the Chief Whip of the 9th Senate, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to present a man who is cable of protecting his legacy when his tenure elapses in 2023.
Sen Kalu, who recently announced his withdrawal from the presidential race, urged the president to ensure the emergence of a candidate who can fix the nation’s economy and take education seriously.
According to him, the presidential race is not about throwing money, stating that electorates would collect the money and still cast their votes according to their conscience.
In a post on his Facebook page, Kalu wrote, “the earliest Nigerians and presidential aspirants understand that no amount of money can buy the president of the country, the better for everyone.
“It is only cohesion and consensus among the regions that can produce a president. If you throw in money, majority of the electorates will collect the money but still vote according to their conscience.
“If money can buy the office of the president of Nigeria, Late MKO Abiola could have bought it with extra change. If money can buy the president, former President Goodluck Jonathan could have bought the presidential seat in 2015.
“I urge President Muhammadu Buhari to consider giving Nigeria a man who can give the entire country a sense of belonging; fix our economy; secure all parts of the country; take education very serious and protect his legacy”.
The Imo state government on Wednesday called on the members of the public to ignore the satanic message that governor Hope Uzodimma, was down with a stroke and rushed to an Indian hospital.
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, made this statement to newsmen in Owerri, while reacting to a voice record spreading rumour on social media that the governor was sick and was flown to India.
The government said those behind the rumours were “descendants of Lucifer who are vainly wishing evil on the governor” adding that they would be disappointed.
According to the Imo government, “Uzodimma is not only hale and hearty but has been energetically attending to all his scheduled activities in the nation’s capital, Abuja. Those behind the satanic rumours are descendants of Lucifer who are vainly wishing evil on the governor. Uzodinma is not afflicted with any challenge that would have led to a stroke.
“His Excellency attended a meeting with the president alongside other APC governors this morning. As I speak, he has entered another party meeting with other stakeholders ahead of APC’s convention. So I don’t know what those concocting this rumour want to achieve. We warned the purveyors of the rumours to desist forthwith before they suffer unmitigated disaster.”
“It was clear that those who do not wish the governor well have been fantasizing about a phantom illness, saying however that they will continue to be disappointed as Uzodimma is enjoying robust health and attending to state duties.
“We urge the people of the state and indeed Nigerians to disregard this fabrication from mentally deranged elements seeking attention over nothing the matter has been handed over to the relevant security agencies to unravel those behind the satanic audio recording.”
A 70-year-old native doctor suspected to be working for the gunmen that beheaded an Anambra lawmaker, Okechukwu Okoye, has been arrested.
One of the gunmen, who was arrested last week, allegedly, claimed that they were working with the native doctor who was at large.
The native doctor was said to have been traced to Unubi in Nnewi South local government area of Anambra State.
Anambra State Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, however, declined to speak on the arrest, saying he would not want to speak on the matter so as not to jeopardise investigations.
He said: “We don’t want to disclose some of our strategies. Let them know that the police command is not folding its hands in unmasking these killers.”
“These things are intelligence-driven and there are already eyewitnesses. In due time, we will let Nigerians know as we will bring all the perpetrators to book.
“Please, help us to tell Nigerians that a lot is being done.”
A human rights group, the International Society for the Rule of Law had in a publication yesterday said the 70-year-old herbalist was apprehended by officers of the Department of State Services ( DSS).
Chairman of the board of directors of the group, Mr Emeka Umeagbalasi, said the arrest was in connection with the abduction, disappearance, beheading and decapitation of the lawmaker, Okechukwu Okoye, who was abducted on 15th May 2022.
He said that the native doctor was technologically trailed after he was found to have used the beheaded lawmaker’s sim-card to make criminal calls, adding that even after exhausting the sim-card ‘credit’, he completed the calls with his cell phone.
He added, “The slayers of the beheaded lawmaker were earlier traced to Unubi where ransom running into millions of naira was physically delivered. The slayers collected the ransom and still went ahead to slay and decapitate the lawmaker.”
Ahead of Monday’s presidential convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, there are concerns among stakeholders about moves by some chieftains to present fake lists of delegates to manipulate the process.
While the issue had in recent days been discussed in hushed tones among some elements in the party, stakeholders from Akwa Ibom and Cross River states have however voiced their concerns on the issue.
In Akwa Ibom, the leader of a group of elders within the party, Chief Don Etiebet, said the state chapter has been foisted with persons who did not win any election, at any congress monitored by INEC, as State Executives in Akwa Ibom State.
“Another instance is the decision on the part of our Party when they unceremoniously withdrew their appeal against the judgment of the trial court that was instituted by their predecessor in office i.e., the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), whose actions in office were fully ratified by the National Convention.
“Presently, we are all living witnesses to the fact that our Party has been constrained to seemingly conduct primaries that are not consistent with the provision of Section 84 (1) of the Electoral Act which states: ‘A political party seeking to nominate candidates
for elections under this Act shall hold primaries for aspirants to all elective positions which shall be monitored by the Commission. In line with this provision, the Commission shall, in monitoring primaries, only recognize delegates that emerge from Congresses duly monitored by the Commission’.
“The consequence of such conduct of primaries remains clear that our Party in Akwa Ibom State may not be in the position to present any validly nominated candidate in Akwa Ibom State except the issues are redressed immediately.
We hasten to warn, that the Akwa Ibom State challenge of using delegates that were not voted for, in line with the extant Electoral Laws if not addressed, the same delegates may be used for the Presidential primaries. Surely if that happens then the Presidential primary ruin the risk of not producing a validly nominated candidate in line with the Electoral Laws. This should not happen.
We fail to see what anyone stands to gain should this fate befall our great Party in Akwa Ibom State”, he stated.
In Cross River, a group of party faithful under the aegis “authentic delegates”, has called on the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee NWC of the APC to ignore a purported ‘fraudulent’ list of national delegates sent by the Cross River State Working Committee to the national leadership.
The APC stakeholders and the authentic national delegates elected on the 17th May 2022 also asked the NWC to follow the APC Constitution and Guidelines as it relates to the national delegates’ list submitted to the party.
A statement signed by Chief Francis Ekpenyong, on behalf of Cross River Authentic Adhoc National Delegates and which was obtained by Vanguard Wednesday in Abuja, said they were the original people who paid for nomination forms, participated in the processes and emerged as National Delegates of their respective Local Government Areas of the state.
Part of the statement reads; “The attention of members and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress APC Cross River State Chapter has been drawn to the fraudulent, meddlesome interference and day-light theft of the mandate of members of the party in the state who was elected National delegates in the just-concluded National delegates election of 17th May 2022.
“As members and stakeholders, we are very concerned and write to state that the party should follow its Constitution and Guidelines as it relates to the national delegate list submitted to the party. That the only valid and recognized list of elected national delegates is that of the one conducted on the 17th day of May 2022, which does not include the names of the State Working Committee Members of the party.
“That the purported national delegate list suggesting a parallel exercise and carrying the names of the State Working Committee Members such as Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba under Yala Local Government Area, Barr. Mensah Offiong Bassey under Calabar South Local Government Area, Lion Okara Ekawu under Bekwarra Local Government Area, Engr. (Dr.) Thomas Uko Aruku under Ogoja Local Government Area, Erasmus Ekpang under Boki Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Titi Ndifon under Akamkpa Local Government Area should therefore be ignored and/or disregarded as being forged as the original national delegate list was altered and/or falsified.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we hereby state clearly that Governor Ayade, Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbor, Barr. Alphonus Ogar Eba, Sen. Stephen Adi Odey, Engr. (Dr.) Thomas Uko Aruku just to mention but a few did not take part in the national delegate election and they are not delegates from their respective Local Government Areas of Cross River State.
“We make bold to say that the so-called national delegate list presented to the party by the State Working Committee Members of the party was based on a poorly scripted skit comedy shot by the State Chairman of the party and his co-conspirators.
“That the action and inactions of the State Working Committee Members of our dear party have the tendency of compromising the process and to deprive the elected national delegates of their rights as delegates to participate in the nomination of the presidential candidate of their own choice.
“That they have no right to alter the delegate list without following due process and the party Constitutions.”
While appealing to the NWC to do the right thing, Chief Ekpenyong urged the critical stakeholders to act fast and follow the already existing delegate list sent to the National Secretary dated the 17th May, 2022 being the date the National Delegate Election took place at the various 18 Local Government Areas of Cross River state.
The Nigeria Army has reacted to the allegation by the Methodist Church Prelate, His Eminence Dr. Samuel Chukwuemeka Kanu-Uche that its troops working with suspected Fulani herdsmen were involved in his recent abduction in Abia.
The Army while saying that the allegation is unsubstantiated noted that it will approach the cleric to unravel the basis for the allegation.
In a statement on Wednesday by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Nigeria Army says given its zero tolerance for any misconduct, it takes the allegation weighty and serious.
Nwachukwu while expressing sympathy over the plight of the cleric wondered if his allegation has been subjected to investigations, emphasizing that it will not be swallowed hook, line and sinker.
According to the Army Spokesperson, the incident has not been reported to the Army unit covering the area where the cleric was kidnapped.
He said, “While the Nigerian Army expresses concern and sympathy for the victim of this heinous crime and shares in his pains, the insinuation that troops are complicit in the kidnap incident is not entirely premised on any findings of investigations and therefore cannot be swallowed hook line and sinker. This allegation therefore raises some pertinent questions which are still unanswered.
” Given, the spate of insecurity in the region, the question would be, was the issue reported to the unit covering the area? Did the Methodist Church take the NA into confidence while negotiating the ransom with the kidnappers? No formal complaint has been received by the unit. More worrisome is the fact that it was alleged that the ransom was paid in less than 24 hours. Was the ransome paid to troops? These are questions that beg for answers.
“Moreso, the NA unit, has not received any debrief from the Prelate or the Methodist Church.”
He expressed dissatisfaction that no information was disclosed to any military formation in the state regarding the abduction apart from the information flying on the social media.
“It is therefore, important to state that troops are deployed at Forward Operating Base(FOB) Okigwe and in front of the Abia State University Uturu and no information was made available to them or to 14 Brigade or any other formation, except the information making the rounds in the social media.
“It must be clarified that troops’ deployment in the Nigerian Army is not done with considerations for ethnic affiliation, hence a deployment of troops of Fulani ethnic extraction who as alleged by the Prelate, carried out the dastardly act is not our practice or modus operandi in the NA.
“Given our professional disposition and zero tolerance for any misconduct in the Nigerian Army , we will take this weighty allegation seriously and approach the Prelate and the Methodist church to unravel the basis for the allegation,” he stated.

“It is simply an appreciation of the hard work of all party members who have done us proud to organize a very successful convention.
“I want to first thank my brother and friend, Senator David Alechenu Mark and the whole team that made it possible for us to have this successful convention.
“Within the PDP family, we had a minor contest, a small contest within the family. There were no victors, there were no vanquishes, the party won.
“It is the party that won. Atiku Abubakar is not yet victorious. He has only been produced as our candidate, the candidate of the whole party.
“I want to congratulate him and congratulate all the aspirants who participated in that event. If they didn’t participate, it actually would not have been a successful event, but thank God.
“As we march forward, we need all of you because each one of you had a supporter and all of you plus all your supporters, we want you all to fuse together into one happy political family.
“It is this family that will face the battle ahead. We have only started a journey. We shall end this journey sometime next year. By the first of June next year, we should take over power from colourless and clueless government that has totally destroyed this country. “
