APC Governors Push For Buhari’s Successor From Among Them

More facts have emerged from the meetings held so far by the state governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress on the consensus candidate to fly the party’s flag in the 2023 presidential election.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), at a meeting with the governors urged them to allow him to pick a consensus candidate as a “successor”.

ABN TV gathered that the governors have held two meetings so far, with another meeting expected to hold on or before Saturday.

During the first meeting, the governors were said to have deliberated on the idea of having a consensus candidate proposed by Buhari.

“Many of them agreed that it is an idea that can be tried,” a source privy to the meeting told our correspondent.

He, however, said during the second meeting, suggestions were given on who should be put forward as the APC consensus candidate.

ABN TV learnt that regional division marred the second meeting as some northern governors who spoke believed that a northern governor should be nominated as a consensus candidate.

Though the source did not specifically mention the name of the northern governor, ABN TV had reported that Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; and Jigawa State Governor, Mohammed Badaru, are in the presidential race.

After a South-West governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, raised an objection to the idea, it was learnt that two of the northern governors also said a governor from the South could be considered.

Governors from the South who are contesting the presidency in 2023 are the Cross River State Governor, Prof Ben Ayade; his Ekiti State counterpart, Dr Kayode Fayemi,  and Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi.

Asked about the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, and former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, the source said, “Most of the argument was centred on a governor succeeding Buhari, for now. But southern governors are talking about power rotation.”

He continued, “When Akeredolu and other southern governors asked them to consider the unity of Nigeria, the northern governors proposed that two governors from the South and North should be considered.”

However, some governors at the meeting argued that a southern candidate may not defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 presidential election.

Atiku, who hails from Adamawa State in the northern part of Nigeria, had unsuccessfully contested five times for the Office of President of Nigeria in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019.

In 1993, he contested the Social Democratic Party presidential primary losing to Moshood Abiola and Baba Gana Kingibe.

He was a presidential candidate of the Action Congress in the 2007 elections coming in third to Umaru Yar’Adua of the PDP and Muhammadu Buhari of the ANPP.

He contested the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party during the 2011 elections losing out to incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

In 2014, he joined the APC ahead of the 2015 presidential election and contested the presidential primary losing to Muhammadu Buhari.

In 2017, he returned to the Peoples Democratic Party and was the party presidential candidate during the 2019 elections, again losing to the incumbent President Buhari.

Efforts to reach the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Atiku Bagudu, proved abortive as of the time of filing this report. Calls made to his mobile number were not picked after they rang out.

When contacted, Governor Akeredolu’s spokesperson, Olabode Olatunde, said, “I was not part of the meeting. It was held among the governors behind closed doors, so I cannot give any details about it.”

Also, efforts to reach the media aides of Tinubu and Osinbajo proved abortive as they refused to pick up their calls or respond to text messages.

NANS Threatens Massive Protest Over Insecurity In Abia, Endless Strike (VIDEO)

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS Zone F South East has called on the federal government and political office holders in Abia State to quickly look into the security concerns in the state, particularly the incessant abduction in Umunneochi as well as the ongoing strike by university lecturers, warning that NANS will be forced into embarking on mother of all protests.

NANS Threatens Massive Protest Over Insecurity In Abia, Endless Strike (VIDEO)

NANS Zone F Secretary General Com. Frank Eme Orji who spoke at the Abia Student Community joint press conference said “it is very unfortunate that Nigerian Students in various campuses are facing a very pathetic issue as the case may be regarding the ASUU strike which has made various Nigerian Students not only in Abia state even in Nigeria as the case may be most of them have been faced with a whole lots of challenges because it is said that an idle man is the devil’s workshop.

“At this juncture, we are calling on the federal government to do the needful, it’s quite unfortunate that we have a whole lot of them who are not concerned about student welfarism if you come to the state today you will discover there are lots of politicians today celebrating their children because they are all schooling abroad.”

“Coming down to Nigeria we have a whole lot of parents and most students who are training themselves, most of them are unable to afford some certain bills to take care of themselves abroad that’s why Government is not interested about what is happening”.

“So we are calling on the federal government to come to our plead, it is quite unfortunate that in a time as this ASUU has embarked on a strike Reasonable has been said or done about these things, and tomorrow you will keep on telling us that we are the future leaders, we believe that we are also today leaders as the case may be we are using this medium to join our voices to call on the federal government to do the need full.”

“Quite importantly we have a very sensitive issue as the case may be which has also given a major concern to the student community, passes by and any other person that has conscience we are talking about the kidnapping case at Uturu Okigwe route that has become more like a routine in the state.”

“We had a very serious case where students community student from Abia state University where the kidnaped ransom was also paid.”

“It is quite unfortunate that we are in this present generation 21 century some persons are been kidnaped? And nothing has been done to ensure that such menace are been taken care of”.

“I most at this juncture also commend the government of Abia state because I know we have able to engage them physically and otherwise we also leant that they initiated some process to ensure that the need full is done.”

“We also want them to also step up to also encourage the security agencies because if you’re coming to that route as we speak you discover that this men has even taken it as a job. We also had the news of the Prelate being kidnapped and a ransom of 100 million naira was paid, if such persons were been kidnaped how much more the person that are poor and can’t afford such money what is their faith, so we are calling on the government even though we learnt they are doing something about it to also try and hasten it up so the lives of students should not be taken for granted. We believe that security should be taken where off, we also know we have local security agencies, town hall as the case may be”.

“Let me also use this opportunity to reach out to our leaders irrespective of their political parties affiliation may be. We have the Senator representing Abia North district Sen. Orji Ujor Kalu, we also have Hon. Onyejiocha representing Umunnochi/Isikwuato Federal constituency, we have Barr. Emaka Okoroafor and Hon. Okay these are house state members and federal, all these persons are coming from Abia North, they should not say this is Abia state they should leave all the responsibility on Abia state government even though they are still needed to do the need full.”

“If the student community are facing all this it is quite unfortunate, it is also unfortunate that most of them are just interested about the election, their only interest is to come back and know how to do that, but there are priorities that should not be taken for granted.”

“We are calling on all our leaders irrespective of the party even those aspiring for one position or the other, they should come back and put hands together to make sure that this issue is handled the roads are also bad they should do palliatives on that road so that the student community will enjoy their stay, you cannot be a student and you’re learning with fear, you cannot be a student and you have in mind if that if you want to travel your life is equally at risk.”

“At the same time they should also assist the management of Abia state University because we’ve been able to engage with them critically and otherwise, I know that they have also done their own need full to ensure that the needful is done.”

“So we are calling on the federal government the state government and all this our leaders representing in Abia North to come back and all those that need to be involved to make sure that the need full is done or the Nigerian Students will be left with no other options than to exercise our constitutional franchise which will be a massive protest, we are giving them 7 days from now if nothing is done it will be unfortunate for us to allow Nigerian Students to come down the streets we are going to do it in a way that the government of the day, of the federal, will understand the power of the Nigerian Students.”

Present at the press conference is the SUG president ABSU com. Ibeneme Chidera, who throws more light on the changes the students of ABSU community face as a result of the concurrent Kidnapping cases going on in the Umunnochi Axis.

2023 Presidency: Atiku Considering Emeka Ihedioha As Running Mate — Sources

Former Imo State governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has been tipped as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, a close source has revealed.

When contacted, media aide to the former Imo State governor, AIC Akwarandu, told Vanguard (not ABN TV) that Emeka Ihedioha’s name is among other names being considered by the former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

He said: “Ihedioha is not Vice President. Atiku is yet to choose. However, his name is among those being tipped for it, which he has been indifferent about.”

Recall that at the just-concluded People’s Democratic Party, PDP’s national convention, Ihedioha was on ground mobilising for Aminu Tambuwal.

Tambuwal became the game-changer when he stepped down and collapsed his followership and structure into Atiku’s, who eventually emerged as the party’s presidential candidate.

Also, a source in the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, revealed to Vanguard that Ihedioha has been favoured among others to be Atiku’s running mate.

He said: “Ihedioha has a very good relationship with Atiku and Tambuwal.

“But he mobilised for Tambuwal during the primary and we all saw what happened when Atiku needed help, Tambuwal came to his rescue.

“As a party, we are looking at zoning the Vice Presidency slot to the South-East given the support of the region in time past to our party.

“And when I look at the track records of Ihedioha, he is the best fit for the role.”

Reports in the media had quoted the Governor of Rivers, Nyesome Wike, at a thanksgiving service, shortly after the PDP convention, as saying: “He stabbed us in the back.”

Wike had narrated how he supported Ihedioha’s ambition to be Governor of Imo state before he was removed after seven months in office.

Wike scored 237 votes losing to Atiku Abubakar, who scored 371 votes at the just-concluded National convention of the PDP, to become the party’s flagbearer for the successive second time after the was defeated by Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general election.

Ihedioha, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and former governor of Imo state, was removed from office by a Supreme Court judgement which favoured Hope Uzodimma of the All progressive congress, APC, and has since then remained the leader of the PDP in Imo state.

Abba Kyari Makes Shocking Revelation On His Involvement With Hushpuppi's International Fraud
Abba Kyari and Hushpuppi

Suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari has spoken about his involvement with international fraud suspect, Abbas Ramon (a.k.a Hushpuppi).

Kyari said his involvement with Hushpuppi was during his engagement, as a senior police officer, in a sting operation against the alleged fraudster, five months before his (Hushpuppi’s) arrest. ترتيب البوكر

He faulted the extradition application filed by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) for his extraction to the United States (US).

Kyari argued that the offences in respect of which a three-count charge was filed against him in the US, for which his extradition was being sought, are not extraditable offences. لعبة جاك بوت

The suspended DCP stated these in a counter-affidavit he filed against the application for his extradition filed by the AGF, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/249/2022.

In the counter-affidavit, deposed to by Kyari’s junior brother, Mohammed, he stated: “The specified offences are not extraditable offences of a political character, and were in fact made for the purpose of prosecuting and punishing the Respondent on account of his race, nationality, and was not made in good faith nor in the interest of justice.

The respondent is a senior police officer in Nigeria carrying out ‘sting investigation’ on Ramon Olorunwa Abbas or AbdulRahman Imraan Juma, otherwise known as Hushpuppi,” he said.

Kyari said he wrote to the Interpol and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on January 28, 2020 and March 3, 2020 “in respect of the sting investigation being carried out by the respondent (Kyari). This was five months before the arrest of Ramon and others by the FBI.

The request for the extradition is not supported by any document or verifiable evidence.

“The request is directed to undermine the crackdown on various crime gangs by the respondent in Nigeria and internationally, and has political undertone.

“The request is for purposes of persecuting or punishing the Respondent on account of his defence for the country.

“The respondent is confronted with series of charges to break him down because of his achievements and various national honours.

“The offences are trumped up and the Respondent is seriously committed to defending himself.

“The application for extradition processes clearly shows allegation of crimes committed on Nigerian soil.

“The respondent has undergone administrative inquiry which is still on going and has not been completed to date on the same matter.

“The respondent is a Deputy Commissioner of Police in the employment of the Nigeria Police, who is highly decorated with meritorious service/excellent awards for outstanding service to the nation and has nowhere to run to.

“The respondent has equally been decorated by the U.S. Authorities.

“Having regards to all the circumstances thereof, it will be unjust, oppressive and improper to surrender the respondent to the United State of America.

“Equally, there is an ongoing criminal trial against the Respondent in FHC/ABJ/CR/57/2022 which the applicant failed to disclose.

“The respondent submit that the applicant’s request concealed the ongoing criminal proceedings against the respondent, and it will prove that, on the merit, this application is deserving of being dismissed and the respondent to be discharged accordingly.

The AGF has responded to Kyari’s counter-affidavit, faulted his claims and prayed the court to allow his extradition.

When the case came up on Thursday, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja granted Kyari’s request, made through his lawyer, Nureini Jimoh (SAN) for permission to file a further affidavit. 1xbet عربي

Justice Ekwo rejected the request by the AGF’s lawyer, Pius Akutah to reply orally to Kyari’s notice of preliminary objection, but ordered him to file a formal reply.

The judge adjourned till Friday for the formal hearing of the substantive suit along with the objection.

Ahmed Idris

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the release of Mr Ahmed Idris, the suspended Accountant General of the Federation, from its custody.

Mr Wilson Uwujaren, the Head of Media and Public Affairs of the commission, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja that Idris was released after meeting his bail conditions.

“I actually do not have an idea of what the bail conditions are, but all I can tell you is that he has been released after meeting his bail conditions,” he said.

Recall that the former Accountant-General was arrested on May 16 by the EFCC over alleged diversion and laundering of N80 billion.

The EFCC said verified intelligence reports showed that Idris raked off the funds through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members, and close associates.

The commission said the funds were laundered through real estate investments in Kano and Abuja.

It said Idris was arrested after he failed to honour invitations by the commission to respond to issues connected to the alleged fraudulent acts.

2023: MKO Abiola Would Have Been President If Money Could Buy Presidency – Senator Kalu

The Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has said a Nigerian president can only be produced through consensus and not money.

Kalu said the late MKO Abiola would have become Nigeria’s president if money could purchase the highest political seat in the country.

He noted that delegates would collect money from politicians and still vote for their conscience.

The former Abia State Governor made the comment via a Facebook post.

The lawmaker wrote: “The earliest Nigerians and presidential aspirants understand that no amount of money can buy the president of the country, the better for everyone.

“It is only cohesion and consensus among the regions that can produce a president. If you throw in money, the majority of the electorates will collect the money but still vote according to their conscience.

“If money can buy the office of the president of Nigeria, Late MKO Abiola could have bought it with extra change.

“If money can buy the president, former President Goodluck Jonathan could have bought the presidential seat in 2015.”
