History Will Be Made If Tinubu Becomes President – Tanko Yakasai

0

An elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has hailed the emergence of Bola Tinubu as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

In a congratulatory message on Thursday, Yakasai said history will be made if Tinubu emerges as the president of the country.

The elder statesman said Tinubu’s emergence as president would signify “the total break away” from military influence in Nigeria’s polity.

He said, “The election of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the APC Presidential Bearer is indeed an important political development in our country. This transition will lead us to a full-pledged democracy, a milestone of an acclaimed figure and political Juggernaut of the APC National Leader to a National Leader of Nigeria.

“When Asiwaju, a sage, is eventually elected as the President of the country in the forthcoming Presidential Elections, history shall be made in our contemporary political development for a number of reasons.

“Paramount and if elected as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju’s election victory will signify the complete and total break away from military influence in our polity which will bring about the return of the country to a full pledge democratic tradition and practice for the first time since the return of civilian rule in 1999.

“It will also constitute a stamp of validation of the 1914 amalgamation of the people of Northern and Southern protectorates by the entire people of Nigeria of their own free will.

“It is gratifying to note that this is the first time the major Political Parties are fielding non-military actors as their Presidential standard-bearers.

“Therefore it is important to appeal to all candidates vying for various political positions in the country to commit themselves to the principles of playing politics according to the rule of the game, eschew politics of bitterness, violence and do away with the culture of thuggery in our political activism and return the country to the path of civility in the conduct of partisan politics.

“May their emergence be the harbinger of the return to politics of decorum, without bitterness as well as the beginning of the arduous task of finding a better strategy that will enhance the needed national unity, peaceful coexistence and cohesion in our country a prerequisite for genuine nation-building.

“I pray that the coming general elections will be conducted in a peaceful atmosphere free from violence. It is our hope that the National Electoral Commission will conduct the election in a peaceful, credible manner devoid of rigging and manipulation.”

Former Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba has spoken up on why he was absent from the venue of the just concluded national convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, saying he was avoiding temptation of inciting the youths.

Nwajiuba who had earlier decried marginalisation against the South East region by APC over its failure to zone presidency to the region was conspicuously missing at Eagles Square when he was invited along with other contestants to make their final remarks to the delegates before the commencement of voting.

He said, “…some of the south east aspirants who choose to attend referred to in their pleas for Justice, or need to constitutionally require it, in the face of the absence of conscience. Even their elderly wailing on national television could not move a vote, if I had shouted same in a more youthful voice, it may have become inciteful in face of our current security difficulties in the southeast and may thus spite our efforts. Better to stay out”.

Nwajiuba who had earlier resigned his appointment as minister to declare his intention to run for the country’s Presidency made real his intention when he purchased the N100m nomination and expression of interest forms to join the race.

He along with other contestants from the South East region had earlier written a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, urging him to zone the APC Presidential Ticket to the South East region.

This however did not materialise as the South West which currently holds the position of the vice president had the day.

Recall that the presidential primary election of the party which has since ended produced the former Governor of Lagos, Bola Tinubu as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.

He is expected to square it out with the likes of Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Musa Kwankwaso, and others at the polls.

Peter Obi's Presidential Bid Under Threat As Factional LP Candidate Emerges

There is trouble brewing within the Labour Party (LP), as Jude Ezenwafor, a former chairman of the party in Anambra State, has been declared the winner of the presidential primary organised by a faction of the party.

Ezenwafor’s affirmation took place in Abuja on Wednesday.

“I am on a rescue mission to free Nigeria from social, economic and political crises currently bedevilling it.

“Labour Party will win the general election. Our party is going to take over Nigeria and bring back the glory Nigeria needs.

“I have been in the corridors of government for the past 20 years. We are here on a rescue mission,” NAN quoted Ezenwafor as saying.

The development comes days after a former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, was elected as the LP’s presidential candidate at a primary organised by the Julius Abure-led faction of the party.

However, prior to Obi winning the primary, the chairman of another faction of the party, Calistus Okafor, challenged the legality of the Abure-led faction before an Abuja Federal High Court..

In a ruling on May 30, the presiding judge, Inyang Ekwo, ordered that the LP and some of its executives be served with a fresh suit challenging the party’s leadership.

The matter was then adjourned till June 30 for further mention.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given all political parties until June 9 to conclude their primaries.

Our Database Remains Intact And Impenetrable, Says NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission has reassured Nigerians that its database remained intact and impenetrable and no NIN records are missing.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Head, Corporate Communications, NIMC, Kayode Adegoke in Abuja.

Reacting to a publication that NIMC lost 7.9 million NIN records of Nigerians, the commission said the write-up was deceptive and misleading.

“The statement Management of NIMC assures Nigerians that the database remains intact and impenetrable and no NIN records are missing.

“The NIN is an 11-digit unique number.

” We, therefore, urge Nigerians to ignore the said report, which is the product of the writer’s infantile imagination.

A copy of the letter was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi on Wednesday.

He said the controversy had to do with alleged alterations to the party’s original delegates’ list for the election, an action he described as illegal and undemocratic.

The Ogun State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has demanded the prosecution of four suspects arrested for the killing of two herdsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital on Sunday night.

It also demanded justice for a married woman, Maimuna Ibrahim, who was allegedly set ablaze on May 21 at Shotinbo town along Shagamu/Ogijo and later died in the hospital, in order to guarantee a continuous peace across the state.

The association lamented that no arrest had been made by the police in connection with the killing of the mother of one, who later died in the hospital on June 1.

The state Chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar Dende, in an exclusive interview with Daily Trust, said the development was capable of causing a great disaffection in the state where the majority of them were born.

He demanded that the state government offer financial assistance to offset the medical bills of those hospitalised over the incident.

Our reporter gathered that the criminals trailed the herdsmen and attacked them for refusing to re-direct their cows from grazing at the Adehun axis of the Roundabout area of the Abeokuta metropolis. قوانين البوكر

It was learnt that one of the suspects had during the day had an open confrontation with the herders, where he allegedly ordered them to keep off grazing their cows in the area.

Dende said the Fulani community in Ogun State was saddened by the situation whereby they were always labelled as trouble makers each time there was a crisis in the state. الرهانات الرياضية

“Government should help us prevail on the people of the Community Development Associations (CDAs) across the state that we are not bad people; such is an act of character assassination,” he added.

A team from the state government, led by the Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Security Matters, Biyi Odubote, and his counterpart on Inter-Ethnic Affairs, Hadi Sanni, had met with the leadership of the Fulani community to commiserate with them on the incident.

When contacted, the police spokesman in Ogun, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, told Daily Trust that he learned that there was a clash between some community members and Fulani herdsmen along the Adehun axis in Abeokuta.

“I have called the DPO of Lafenwa and he told me he sent a team of policemen with their patrol vehicles along Crescent University, I cannot say if someone has lost his life but am still investigating the issue,” he said. ماهي لعبة البوكر

Oyeyemi promised to find out about the case of the woman and get back but had yet to do so as of the time of this report.

Nigeria Back On Track, We’ll Worry, Eliminate Killers - Tinubu
Bola Tinubu

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reacted to the emergence of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate.

PDP said Tinubu was “desperate for the keys to Nigeria’s treasury,” but its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, would defeat him in the 2023 elections.

In a series of tweets, the opposition party insisted that Tinubu was not a match for Atiku.

According to PDP: “@OfficialPDPNig mocks @officialABAT for clinching at very great price, the Presidential ticket of the moribund, decrepit and crippled @OfficialAPCNg, which has since served out its purpose as a fraudulent contraption that brought in the failed, corrupt and rudderless administration of President @MBuhari.

“Our Party also sympathizes with Asiwaju for embarking on a journey to nowhere as he is no match for @OfficialPDPNig’s more popular, more competent and more prepared Presidential Candidate, His Excellency, @Atiku the unifier and the people’s choice, who defeated President @MBuhari fair and square in the 2019 Presidential election.

“@officialABAT will soon realize that Nigeria is not one of his acquired estates or fiefdoms and that the Nigerian people are not his political string-puppets and retinue of lackies, from whom he bought the @OfficialAPCNg Presidential ticket.

“@officialABAT will also soon realize that Nigerians hold him responsible for his self-confessed role in installing the failed @MBuhari-led administration that subjugated the people, brought excruciating economic hardship, acute poverty, bloodletting, terrorism, mass killings, promoted disunity, tribalism and nepotism, lawlessness, massive treasury looting and unpardonable life-discounting experiences to our country.”

Adamawa State Govt Imposes Curfew In Two LGAs

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has imposed curfew in parts of Lamurde and Guyuk Local Government Areas following renewed communal clashes.

Fintiri disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday evening in Yola by Humwashi Wonosikou, his Press Secretary.

According to the statement, the curfew will last between 5 pm and 6 am until it is reviewed.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the clash erupted on Monday morning but the deployment of security personnel has brought relative peace to the area.

The statement said: “Following renewed clashes in parts of two Local Government Areas of Lamurde and Guyuk in the Southern Adamawa, the State Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri has imposed a curfew on the towns of Lafiya and Boshikiri,  as well as the surrounding villages of Mumseri, Mere, Kupte, and Zakawon with immediate effect.

“The government is disturbed by the recurring communal clashes.

“Criminals are challenging the government’s resolve and we are going to pursue them to the farthest end possible.

“We have exhausted all the means to arrest the situation in that area. It now requires a whole new approach because we have been left with no option.”

Fintiri said that the government was concerned about the persisting tensions and reported attempts by some people to take the laws into their hands by attacking individuals and private facilities, as well as public property.

“All citizens are, therefore, directed to abide by the directive to enable security personnel to maintain law and order in the affected areas and deal with those attempting to foment trouble by taking advantage of the situation to perpetrate crimes,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.

Fintiri, while calling for calm, expressed sympathy to the families of those affected by the crisis.
