Pan-Yoruba Socio-Cultural Group, Afenifere has urged President Muhammadu Buhari and security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the attack on worshippers of St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo and bring them to book.

Afenifere stated this on Thursday when they paid a condolence visit to Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in his office at Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital.

The group was led by its national leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo in company of other members including: the deputy national leader, Oba Oladapo Olaitan; former Governor of Ogun state, Chief Gbenga Daniel; Chief Olu Falae; Chief Tunji Alapinni; Chief Sola Ebiseni; Chief Korede Duyile among several others.

Adebanjo commiserated with the Governor, the Olowo of Owo, the Catholic Church and the people of the state over the ugly incident.

The Afenifere leader, particularly commended Governor Akeredolu for doing his best to secure not only the state but the South-West region.

He added that the security situation in the Southwest would have been worsened, but for the establishment of the Amotekun corps.

Adebanjo described the Owo church attack as an unfortunate situation, calling on Governor Akeredolu to ensure the assailants do not go unpunished.

Afenifere described the assailants as terrorists who must be apprehended and made to face the consequences of the heinous crime.

The group also donated N1.5m to the church and victims of the attack.

In his response, Governor Akeredolu appreciated them for their condolence visit, noting that his administration would not back down on its Anti-open Grazing Law.

“What we have suffered is not just gruesome, for me it is like an annihilation because these animals in human’s skin did not come to kidnap, because they pick nobody.’’

EFCC Tells Court How Mompha Procured Fresh Passport, Travelled After Submitting Old Documents

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos on Friday said that the social media celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, had defied the court order by traveling to Dubai with a new international passport.

EFCC had on January 12 charged Mompha and his company, Ismalob Global Investment Ltd, with six billion Naira money laundering.

The court had on March 28, ordered Mompha to submit his international passport to court after his bail sum was reduced from N200 million to N25 million.

During Friday’s sitting, the EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, informed the court that the parties did not come to a conclusion, but the defendant hired an Emirate Airline and traveled to Abuja after he had submitted his international passport on the order of the court.

Oyedepo said, “My lord granted bail to the defendant and ordered him to submit his International Passport, but still traveled down to Dubai.

“The commission is not the only one on this matter and we heard from good authority that the defendant has a passport with No. D50084304 which was issued in Abuja on July 2021 and is to expire on June 30, 2031.

“From the information by our partner, the defendant had on April 11 hired emirate and flew from Ghana to Dubai and the passport that the defendant used to travel is not the one submitted to this honourable court my lord.

“The defendant did not travel through Nigeria and the issue here now is that the defendant has a new passport at hand which he traveled with after my lord restricted him from traveling.”

The Defence counsel, Gboyega Oyewole, however, objected to the submission of the prosecution and argued that EFCC should write to Nigeria Immigration to ascertain the claim.

Oyewole said, “I have spoken with the prosecution concerning this my lord and when he called, I told him that there was a particular person who was our surety that was supposed to pay the N25 million.

“His account was frozen when the money got into his account. The surety called the defendant and for the defendant’s safety, he told the surety that he had traveled. But the man has connection and concluded that the defendant has defiled court order.

“My lord, the EFCC should write to Immigration to ascertain if my client really traveled out of the country or not.

“This is a superior court of record sir and I suggest that an application be brought concerning this because there is a lot of confusion here and should be on record.

“Let Immigration respond if another passport exists. The residency visa that he has to live in Dubai is already submitted in court so there is no way he can enter the country,”

A photocopy of the passport was shown to the defendant and he denied the signature on it.

The EFCC counsel thereafter urged the court to stand down the case for ten minutes so as to discuss it with the defence counsel.

The defence counsel, thereafter, urged the court to grant him one week to verify the claim of the prosecution.

Oyewole said, “We have had discussions within ourselves and also spoke with the prosecution.

“In the interest of justice, we have agreed with the prosecution to give me one week to verify the truth as I need to verify the truth my lord.”

The prosecution did not object the submission of the defence counsel.

Justice Dada adjourned the case until June 16, 2022, for further consideration on the bail application and ordered the defendant to be in the custody of the defense counsel.

Peter Obi has received a certificate of return as the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for next year’s general elections.

The former governor Anambra State governor received the certificate of return from the party on Friday.

“Mr. Peter Obi Receives Labour Party Certificate of Returns as its Presidential Candidate for 2023 presidential elections,” the Labour Party tweeted on its official handle alongside a photo of Obi holding the certificate of return. “Congratulations!!

Before now, a faction of the party had elected a presidential candidate for the elections next year.

But the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) maintained that it only recognises the party’s presidential election which produced Obi as its candidate.

“The leadership of the NLC and TUC recognize the leadership of the Labour Party led by Barr. Julius Abure, a former trade union leader and workers are part of the leadership,” the NLC President Ayuba Wabba said in a statement issued on Thursday.

“The NLC and TUC are aware of only one presidential primary which was held in Asaba, Delta State on 30th May 2022 and produced HE Peter Obi as its presidential candidate and standard-bearer.”

He said the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and NLC gave their full support to the processes which produced Obi as the party’s presidential candidate.

“This, therefore, serves as a public disclaimer on Mr Calistus Okafor. We warn the general public to steer clear of Calistus Okafor and characters who might want to cash in on the popularity of the Labour Party to hoodwink, extort and swindle unsuspecting members of the public,” he warned

Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial district.

Akpabio, who stepped down for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu during the just concluded presidential primary of the party, emerged winner with 478 votes.

Out of the 540 delegates, 512 were accredited, of which Sir Joseph Akpan had one vote, DIG Ekpo Udom who initially won the first primary had three votes, while 11 votes were voided. العاب القمار

Speaking on Thursday night at the Godswill Akpabio Empowerment Centre in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, where the re-run primary held, Akpabio thanked the people for finding him worthy.

“I thank the Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district for finding me worthy to be given another opportunity to represent you in the Nigerian Senate. I recall when you gave me the first mandate in 2015 to 2019, I recall that there is no Senator ever that did the kind of empowerment I did for you.

“I know a lot of projects were done across the ten local government areas, from markets to water projects, to electrification project, to building of classroom blocks,” he stated.

Speaking earlier, the State APC Chairman, Mr Stephen Ntukekpo, said he was directed by the party at the national level to carry out the re-run, and cited infractions in the first primary as the reason for the re-run.

“There was some infractions in the primaries held about a week ago and I was directed by the National Working Committee to carry out a re-run. رهان المباريات

“We have about five aspirants in this exercise. They were all informed and are fully aware. The aspirants are Sir Joseph Akpan, DIG Ekpo Udom, Obong Emem Ekperikpe Ekpo, and Senator Godswill Akpabio,” he said.

Though the other aspirants were not available during the exercise, one of them, Obong Emem Ekperikpe Ekpo announced that he was stepping down for Akpabio.

He said, “The first primary took place on May 28th and all of you were there. Today, our Father has joined the race. I, Obong Emem Ekperikpe Ekpo, former member of the House of Representatives, a son of this senatorial district, I plead with all my delegates to identify with our father, and I return all the delegates to vote for him.

“I don’t think we should do anything to undermine the person God has given to us as a leader. The person is Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio. I call all my delegates once again to support him. With that, I have withdrawn my aspiration to the Senatorial seat. موقع كازينو 888

The five man committee to monitor the primaries was led by the Chairman, Sir Sylvester Okonkwo, Secretary, Alhaji Salisu Isa, and Mrs Bunmi Imole, who was the returning officer, among others, as well as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Emergence of Godswill Akpabio As APC Senate Candidate ‘Not Recognised’ – INEC

Electoral Act: Amended Section Doesn’t Exist, Appointees Won’t Resign – Godswill Akpabio

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not recognise the emergence of the former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, as the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for Akwa Ibom North-West District for the 2023 elections.

Mr Akpabio, Thursday night “won” the primary for the district conducted by a faction of the APC in Akwa Ibom State that is loyal to him.

A source at INEC said on Friday morning, that the commission was not aware of a new primary for the district and did not monitor the exercise.

The source, who did not want his name mentioned in the report because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said the commission only recognises Udom Ekpoudom, a retired deputy inspector general of police, as the APC candidate for the district.

The primary “won” by Mr Ekpoudom was conducted on May 28 by another faction of the APC in the state. INEC monitored the exercise.

The APC in Akwa Ibom has been torn into two factions because of a protracted battle between Mr Akpabio and the former national secretary of APC, John Akpanudoedehe, over the control of the party structure in the state.

The faction that conducted the primary, which Mr Ekpoudom “won”, is loyal to Mr Akpanudoedehe.

Mr Akpanudoedehe, a few days ago, defected to the New Nigerian Peoples Party and secured the party’s governorship ticket in Akwa Ibom after he was outmaneuvered by the other faction which got Akanimo Udofia, a man who joined the APC in less than a month, to be elected the 2023 governorship candidate of the party in the state.

As it is, Mr Akpabio’s ambition to return to the Senate in 2023 may not be realised, unless the former minister challenges and defeats INEC in court.

Mr Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom, was elected a senator in 2015 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. He later resigned from his position as the minority leader and defected from the PDP to the APC.

He, however, failed to win the senatorial election in 2019 under the APC, and was compensated with an appointment as the minister of Niger Delta Affairs by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The former senator resigned as minister to contest the APC presidential primary, but stepped down at the last minute for the former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, who emerged as the party presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

The Chinese government demands that the United States disclose full and detailed information about the activity of US military laboratories in Ukraine, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told a news briefing while commenting on the Pentagon’s factsheet concerning support for Ukrainian biological facilities.

“Once again we call on the United States to explain fully and in detail the activities that it had carried out in Ukraine, and not the activity that was carried out by the Ukrainian side,” he said. “Also, we urge the United States once more to drop objections to creating a verification protocol,” Zhao said.

The Pentagon on Thursday released a factsheet saying that over the past 20 years the US authorities supported 46 various civilian laboratories and health care centers in Ukraine as part of peaceful programs.

Previously, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that during the special military operation in Ukraine Russian forces unearthed evidence pointing to an emergency cleanup by the Kiev regime of traces of a military biological program, carried out in Ukraine and bankrolled by the US Defense Department. According to Konashenkov, staff from these Pentagon-run Ukrainian-based labs revealed the emergency disposal of particularly dangerous pathogens on February 24, namely, the plague, anthrax, tularemia, cholera and other deadly diseases.

US Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland on March 9, speaking at a hearing at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Senate, said that there were facilities in Ukraine that did research in the field of biology and that Washington was trying to prevent them from falling under the control of Russian forces.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the first foreign visit of Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan’s new President, precisely to Russia emphasizes the special nature of relations between the two countries at a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart in Kremlin on Friday.

“Welcome to Russia, we are very happy that you are paying your first foreign state visit precisely to our country, this once again stresses the special nature of our relations,” Putin said, adding that he was very glad to see the Turkmen leader in Moscow.

The Russian president underscored that largely thanks to the efforts of ex-Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Serdar’s father, interaction between both countries advanced “indeed to a strategic level.”

“I would like to ask you to convey the best wishes to the previous president, my good old friend, naturally, wishing him success and good health,” the Russian leader concluded.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have made a shock move to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.

According to journalist Tancredi Palmeri of SportItalia, Spurs are thinking of replacing Kane with Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan.

Bayern are set to lose Polish striker Robert Lewandowski this summer and are consequently rumoured to want to replace him with Kane.

Lewandowski who scored 50 goals in 46 games is edging closer to a move to Barcelona.

Whether Kane would be interested in a move to Germany or the fee it would take for the Spurs to consider isn’t included in the report.

According to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the North London club have zero intention of selling Kane and they could even offer him a new contract.

The 29-year-old’s deal expires in 2024.

Man City were heavily linked with a move for him last year and they even offered £127million for his services but Spurs declined.

Kane is the second Premier League player to be targeted by Bayern as they look to secure the signing of Sadio Mane from Liverpool.

If Spurs were to sell the England captain they would allegedly make a move for Martinez.

Leone Stars captain Steven Caulker admitted his team gave the Super Eagles too much respect in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Thursday night, reports says

The Leone Stars started the game on the strong foot with Jonathan Morsay putting them ahead in the 11th minute following a superb cross from Musa Kamara.

Simon was the provider again as he teed up Victor Osimhen was the winning goal four minutes before the break.

“It’s a young team. We have a lot of youngsters in the team. We are building for the future,” Caulker said during his interaction with the media after the game.

“Obviously we gave Nigeria too much respect and they scored two good goals against us. They have a lot of quality players in their team.
