Amid ongoing consultations processes over who emerges as the running mate to All Progressive Congress, APC Presidential flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmad Tinubu, a Special Adviser to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Media, Shehu Isa has opened up on why the party and Tinubu should pick Ganduje as running mate ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

Isa who was quick to clear the air on the Muslim-Muslim ticket which he said was unconstitutional, noted that Ganduje was the best person to run along the presidential flag bearer of the party, Tinubu.

The Media aide made this known while speaking with newsmen in Kano over the weekend.

According to Isa, “looking at the calibre and track records in both civil service, politics and the kind of person he is, Ganduje is perhaps the only option APC has.

“It is Ganduje, in the whole north who stood for Tinubu’s campaign openly despite the challenges of rejection from many others and while stakeholders in the north were afraid to endorse him publicly.

“He has no tribalism, despite being a native Fulani, he gave out his daughter to Yoruba. Even Tinubu will be at peace to work with him as running mate.

“Ganduje as Vice President, he will surely mediate the issues of Fulani herdsmen, kidnappers, banditry among other forms of criminality bedeviling the country being a native Fulani speaker,” he stated.

On the challenge of Muslim-Muslim ticket, Isa said, “it is not constitutional and Kaduna had experimented it and since then, the state has been peaceful, void of ethnic violence the state has been known for,” the Special Adviser to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Media, Shehu Isa however noted.

Information has revealed how some pastors collected money from her mother, promising to heal her of cancer.

He stated this during an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Director-General at the Anambra State Project Monitoring and Management Office.

According to him, his mother went to a number of popular Nigerian pastors in a bid to get healed after she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

He said many of them used the opportunity to collect money from her while giving her false hope, adding that what the men of God did to his mother was a “divine hustle.”

Obumnaeme said, “She was more like God would heal me; She spent all the money, sowed all the seed. So, I felt it was a racket. In Nigeria, we don’t call it crime or anything, but I felt there was a hustle.

“She went to a pastor in Lagos for like a week. She came back and said they needed to do a scan and that God had healed her. And I remember my father was crying when he was taking her to do the scan. He knew what they would see. And he wasn’t trying to shut it down; he was trying to dampen expectations.

“But my mum, you know how someone is like ‘God has healed me’. They went and saw the mass of cancer there, grown larger, and my mum just became a shell for like three days. You just see someone, a larger-than-life figure just whittling away every day.”

Terrorists Release 11 Abducted Train Passengers

Terrorists who attacked a Kaduna-bound train on March 28, 2022, have released some of the captives.

The terrorists had bombed a section of the rail track, forcing the train to derail after which they opened fire on the passengers, killing nine and abducting 62, including children and the elderly.

ABN TV reports that after spending about 74 days in captivity, six females and five male captives were released on Saturday following intense negotiations, according to the Publisher of Desert Herald, Tukur Mamu who has served as a mediator.

However, he said his sources had confided that the terrorists had released the male captives on health grounds, adding that the released women are among the vulnerable which was part of the agreement reached with the abductors.

“It was expected initially that all the abducted women will be released in the first batch while negotiations for the release of the remaining victims will continue but the abductors had cut down the number of women they initially agreed to release because the Nigerian Government had demanded that they include those with life-threatening injuries among the released.”

Our correspondents who reached out to some relatives of the abducted passengers gathered that they have been expecting the release of the captives but said they have not been briefed of the recent development.

ABN TV reports that since the March 28th attack, the terrorists had released two people, one of them, the Managing Director of Bank of Agriculture Alwan Hassan, who was said to have paid about N100million and later, a pregnant woman said to be released out of compassion.

Earlier, the abductors had demanded the release of eight of their children said to have been in the custody of the Federal Government.

Former COAS, General Buratai Proffers Solution To Insecurity In Nigeria

Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai (rtd), on Saturday in Kaduna has stated that insecurity can only be solved by adopting both kinetic and non-kinetic measures like dialogue and local manufacturing of military equipment.

Gen. Buratai, while delivering a lecture titled, “Politics and Insecurity In Nigeria: Way Forward” at a one-day symposium on national security at the Arewa House, Kaduna, further said non-kinetic approaches should include negotiation, dialogue are integrated approaches that can end insecurity through involving traditional and religious leaders, media, security, and intelligence agencies.

He said the public needs to be constantly sensitised on roles they must play to end insecurity as key stakeholders.

He added that revitalisation of Defense Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), better welfare and equipment for police, as well as the establishment of a national border force like is done in other parts of the world.

He advised that the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) should collaborate and employ all means to block off supplies to terrorists, adding that ungoverned spaces should be covered by states and local government areas to prevent insurgents and bandits from moving around freely.

He further enlightened that fighters are always in the bush even if the military eliminates their leaders and others, they will continue to recruit, just as he stated that the issue of dialogue is very important.

“If you eliminate those in the bush, what of their political leaders and their recruiting agents?” He asked rhetorically.

Buratai who strongly aligns with the approach being promoted by a revered Islamic cleric, Sheikh Gumi, further added that “this is where I commend Sheikh Gumi for his initiative. One-third of the fight is military, others should be non-kinetic, through dialogue. We must get this solution and this is the right time to get it done.”

Muslim-Muslim Ticket: Take Religion Out Of Politics, El-Rufai Tells Media

0
Nasir el-Rufai

In the wake of speculations in the media that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC may field a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 presidential election, Governor Nasru El-Rufai of Kaduna State has urged the media to set aside religion from politics and governance in Nigeria.

El-Rufai, while speaking on the issue on Channels TV’s political show, Politics Today, noted that the media should be on the lookout for competence, capacity, capability and delivery.

He said, “I don’t think we should be looking at religion. We want to develop this country. When I get into a plane, I don’t ask the religion of the pilot. When I go to the hospital, I don’t ask for the doctor’s religion of the doctor, I just want to get well. I just want to get to my destination when in an aircraft.

“The way the media and many irresponsible people try to inject religion into politics and governance is sad and pathetic, and will not take us anywhere.

He described as sad and pathetic, what he termed as fixation of Nigerians with religion instead of competence and delivery.

“Nigeria is at the crossroads. We face very serious dangers in security and economic meltdown. Global issues are affecting us and all people are concerned with as far as who will be President I or Vice President is concerned is religion. It’s so sad.

“It’s not our religion that will solve our problems. It’s the people, who are competent and capable, that will address Nigerians’ problems, unite this country and put it on a progressive path,” he added.

Meanwhile, El-Rufa’s name has been in the radar of possible running-mate for the APC presidential flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

While Tinubu and stakeholders of the ruling party intensify consultations on choice of running-mate, other names that have been listed as likely running-mate for the APC presidential candidates are the Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu; Kano State Governor, Abdulahi Ganduje; Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Gida Mustapha and Malam Kashim Ibrahim-Imam.

But, El-Rufai has dismissed the claim, just as he described it as speculation.

He said, “I don’t engage in endless speculation. The candidate will choose his running-mate. He will evaluate many factors, and the best we can do is to give him space and time and advise him and guide him to make the right choice.”

When asked how APC Muslim-Muslim ticket would sit with Nigerians, El-Rufai said he didn’t looking at the issue from the perspective of Muslim-Muslim or Christian-Christian.

“I don’t think the business of governance has to do with religion. I think we should look for the best person for the job and the person that will get the job done.

“I’m the wrong person to ask, because in my state I picked a very qualified and competent woman as running-mate in the 2019 elections, but just because it happened to be a Muslim, people are calling it a Muslim-Muslim ticket, and they said we are going to lose, but we didn’t. we won overwhelmingly.”
