Erling Haaland, the latest striker for Manchester City, has explained his decision to join the Premier League club.
On Monday, the transfer of Haaland from Borussia Dortmund was confirmed.
The 21-year-old has signed a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.
“You can’t help but admire their style of play, it’s exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me,” Haaland told City’s website.
The Norway international also hailed Pep Guardiola as “one of the greatest managers of all time”.
He added: “I want to score goals, win trophies, and improve as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here. This is a great move for me, and I can’t wait to get started in the preseason.”
Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide has apologized to governors from the southeast and Igbos over the outcome of All Progressives Congress, APC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and presidential primaries.
The socio-cultural group said it shared in the blame and accepted the burden for the loss of the Southeast during the primary elections of the two major political parties.
Ohanaeze admitted that the losses were due to a lack of unity, but insisted that there’s still a glimmer of hope.
In a statement issued on Monday by the organization’s Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group also sued for peace while calling for an end to the apportioning of blame.
The statement read “We are calling for a truce and calm, and the blame games should lessen down for we are back on the drawing board in partnership with all critical stakeholders in the southeast as it’s not over until it’s over
“We share in the traumas and pains of Ndigbo, particularly in the lamentations of the chairman of the Southeast Governors and the Governor of Ebonyi State Engr Dave Umahi.
“When the head is rotten it affects every part of the body, we tender our unreserved apologies to Ndigbo and the southeast Governors led by Governor Dave Umahi, what is expected of everyone is the aggressive mobilization of all Igbo eligible voters in 774 Lgas to register and obtain PVCs, there is a sizable population of Igbos outside and it’s not over yet for Ndigbo”.
“No matter how long we are trended in the wrong direction, Ndigbo should remember that the Messiah might not be in the major political parties, the southeast is still in the contest for 2023.
“There are some options open for the southeast, in the absence of the rotten head, selected special IMEOBI and ELDERS COUNCIL members are now saddled with the duty to navigate NdIgbo through the political stormy weather, the sun will always rise from the East, it’s not over”, the statement added.
Gunmen have kidnapped Rev James Kantoma, a Catholic priest in charge of St Anthony’s Parish, Angware community in the Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The cleric, who is also the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the council area, was reportedly abducted at his house in the community by the gunmen on Sunday night.
According to PUNCH, a resident of the Angware community, Silas Joshua, who confirmed the cleric’s abduction said, “When the gunmen arrived in the community at night, they moved straight to the house of the Reverend Father.
“Some youths in the area, who were alerted, tried to stop and even gave them a hot chase into the bush but the gunmen started shooting everywhere and eventually took the Reverend Father away.”
The State Chairman of CAN, Polycarp Lubo, who also confirmed the abduction of the cleric said, “Since the gunmen took the Reverend Father away, we have not heard anything either from him or the abductors up till this morning. This is so sad. But we are praying for him that no harm will befall him wherever he is. But for how long shall innocent citizens continue to be kidnapped or abducted without anything being done to address the problem?”
The Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, Alabo Alfred, who said that the Command was aware of the incident, added that “Our men are already working to ensure that the cleric regains his freedom and apprehend those behind the abduction,” the PPRO added.
The Oyo State Government on Monday declared a three-day mourning period in honour of the victims of the terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State.
The decision, according to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun, is in compliance with the communique issued at the end of a virtual meeting of the governors of the South-West states held on June 10.
In view of the decision, Adeosun stated that Governor Seyi Makinde had approved that flags be flown at half-mast from Monday, June 13 to Wednesday, June 15, 2022, in honor of the slain victims.
The statement quoted the communique signed by the governors; Rotimi Akeredolu, Ondo; Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti; Gboyega Oyetola, Osun; Dapo Abiodun, Ogun; Seyi Makinde, Oyo and Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos state.
“The governors condemned in very strong terms, the horrendous crime perpetrated by terrorists against the people and residents of Owo, Ondo State, and by extension, the peace-loving people of the South-West.
“The governors noted with a great discomfiture, the increasing agitations about spaces taken over by unidentified and unknown migrants in all South-West states,” the statement said.

It stated that the South-West governors decided to reconvene the South-West Security Committee “to look critically into the menace of Okada riders’ influx.”
The committee would subsequently submit its findings on the desirability of Okada operations in the region, as well as come up with a multi-level template to combat the threat of insurgency and terrorism in the region.
The people of Umumba autonomous community in Nsirimo Umuahia south Local Government area of Abia State have passed a vote of no confidence on their traditional ruler, His Royal Highness, Eze Godwin Okechukwu Ogbonna over official misconduct, corruption, and failure to lead the community to develop.
In a letter signed by the President general Umumba Development Association Federated, Maduabughichi Samuel Chukwuma, and the Secretary Luke Ukaforo among others, the association accused the Royal Father of pursuing personal interest against the collective security and welfare of the community in the past twenty-one years he has been on the throne.
They also alleged that the community market which serves the village was sold under the supervision of Eze Ogbonna, and that the community has turned to a hide out for hoodlums which poses a security threat to the locals.
The letter partly reads, “The Orieama Nsirimo market was sold and supervised by the Eze as he benefitted from the business.
“Under your watch sir, hoodlums built two of their hideouts behind your house (the palace) which constituted a security threat to the community and you would not claim of being ignorant of this”.
The association further stated, “No account of toll-gate fee was given to Umumba under your watch for Twenty (20) years.
“The Five Hundred Naira (N500) development levy paid by taxable adults of Umumba and money paid by Telecommunication providers for mounting a network mast in Orieama is still in the custody of Eze-in-Council under your watch.
“The light committee members have been extorting Umumba through exorbitant NEPA Bill under your watch. This account for the reason you refused the development Association to take over the supervision of the electricity committee even when you do not pay electricity bills.
“Under your watch, two villages (Umuokoroigwe Central and Umuiye) withdrew their participation in Umumba activities as a result of your leadership style.
“Under your watch, the community has experienced countless police and court cases which in one way or the other involve you.
“Under your watch, the various leadership arms in Umumba ranging from block chairmen, Central Age Grade, etc have formed the habit of keeping public money in their custodies without giving a proper account of their stewardship which had your support when the thing created havoc in the community during the handover of the last Central Age Grade Executive conducted by this present administration.
They, therefore, passed a vote of no confidence on the traditional ruler, urging him to stop parading himself as the Paramount Ruler of Mba 1 of Umumba Autonomous Community.
In his response when contacted by ABN TV, the embattled traditional ruler said there is no truth in the allegations, urging the general to ignore them.
He said the allegations are a fabrication by the President General of Umumba Development Association Federated, Maduabughichi Samuel Chukwuma who was issued a query for illegal activities in the community by the Eze-in-council.
According to Eze Ogbonna, the President General was therefore suspended for six months for insubordination and corruption.
He accused Maduabughichi Samuel Chukwuma of insulting his person and his office as well as Eze-in-council, insisting that his suspension still subsists.
The Eze also accused the President General of constantly failing to attend the meetings summoned for various leadership organs in the community, including that of Eze-in-Council.
The Eze who claimed to inaugurate the President General last year May accused him also of not giving details of the transaction with River Sand Site in the community.
He said the President General has done a lot of damage which the community is making efforts to salvage.
He said since the President General has taken the case to court he is ready to meet him in the court.
A Court of Appeal in London has commenced hearing the first of two last-minute legal challenges to stop the British government’s policy to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda before the first removal flight scheduled to leave on Tuesday.
Britain has agreed a deal with Rwanda to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda in return for an initial payment of 120 million pounds ($148 million) and additional payments based on the number of people deported.
The government says the deportation strategy is aimed at undermining people-smuggling networks and stemming the flow of migrants risking their lives by crossing the English Channel in small boats from Europe.
Initially, some 37 individuals were scheduled to be removed on the first flight to Rwanda, but the number has reduced in the face of the current legal challenges. But a lawyer for human right groups said there may now only be 11 people on board.
The government has not provided details of those selected for deportation, but charities say they include people fleeing Afghanistan and Syria.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is determined to press ahead with the policy despite the legal challenges and opposition, reportedly including from Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne.
“It’s very important that the criminal gangs who are putting people’s lives at risk in the Channel, understand that their business model is going to be broken and is being broken by this government,” Johnson told LBC radio.
“They are selling people false hope and luring them into something that is extremely risky and criminal.”
Meanwhile, human rights group says the policy is inhumane and will put migrants at risk. The UNHCR has said Rwanda, whose own human rights record is under scrutiny, does not have the capacity to process the claims.
The Court of Appeal began hearing arguments from two human rights groups and a trade union on Monday after a judge refused their request for an injunction blocking the flight taking off.
The judge said on Friday there was a “material public interest” in allowing the government to pursue the policy”.
Raza Hussain, the lawyer for some of the claimants, said the judge had not given enough weight to the concerns of the UNHCR, which had warned that some asylum seekers could be sent back to a country where they would be at risk of persecution.
The High Court will separately later hear arguments from Asylum Aid, a refugee charity, which launched a second legal challenge to stop the government flying refugees to Rwanda.
The charity said the government’s plan to give asylum seekers seven days to obtain legal advice and to present their case to avoid deportation is flawed and unfair.
This case will be heard by the same judge who on Friday rejected the first request for an injunction.
Over the weekend, Prince Charles was reported by The Times newspaper to have privately described the government’s policy as “appalling”. A spokesperson for Charles did not deny he had expressed personal opinions about the policy but said he remains “politically neutral”.
Under Britain’s unwritten constitution, the royal family are expected to avoid making political comments.
Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, has advocated that the next vice-president should be from the North-East, while the President of the Senate should come from the South-East if APC is elected into power in 2023.
There are indications that the ruling All Progressive Congress might compensate the South-East region with the position of senate president.
It would be recalled that none of the aspirants from the South East that contested the APC presidential primaries came close to winning.
The South East region has also not produced a president.
Alhassan Ado-Doguwa disclosed to Punch Newspaper that the party is making plans for the senate president position goes to the southeast while the North-East would produce the next vice-president.
According to the report, the running mate for Asiwaju Tinubu will likely emerge on or before Wednesday.
He also told Punch Newspaper that as the prominent member of the national executive committee, National Caucus, and the presidential tripartite committee of the party, they are offering advice that will advance the course of the party in the forthcoming general election.
The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Sokoto State Government, has commenced the distribution of farm inputs and hand tools to women in the 23 local government areas of the state.
Inaugurating the distribution on Sunday in Sokoto, Hajiya Kulu Sifawa, the state Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, said the gesture was part of the federal government’s desire to engage Nigerian women in farming.
Sifawa said the essence of the project is to boost agricultural activities in an effort to enhance food security across the country.
“The gesture is part of the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in engaging women’s participation towards nation-building.
“As you are aware, women are the bedrock for every societal development, as such, the government came up with the programme to support the country’s commitment to food security.
“Therefore, I urge the beneficiaries to judiciously utilize the opportunity in ensuring the success of the exercise,” she said.
Sifawa appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister for Women Affairs for coming up with the programme, saying ”such will immensely support women farmers”.
Alhaji Bello Wakili, the Chairman, of Gudu Local Government Area, said the council would monitor the progress of the exercise.
“We are from the rural area and you know our women are full-time farmers. So, with the current development, I want to assure you that there is going to be a lot of improvement in food production,” he said.

Also distributed were farm hand tools including cutlasses, wheelbarrows, rakes, and shovels.
