A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chieftain and Chairman of Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, Denge Josef Onoh has suggested that the former Governor of Enugu state, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani should be chosen by the former Vice President and the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

According to Onoh, Chimaroke Nnamani satisfies all parameters that could be used as prerequisite for one’s qualification to become a Vice President, noting that experience, service delivery and political sagacity counts for Nnamani.

In a statement he made available in Enugu, on Tuesday, Onoh described Nnamani as a phenomenon, whose established Ebeano political structure has outlived different forms of tsunamis and has continued to gain wide acceptability beyond the southeast region, but has gained national attraction and acceptability.

He recalled that Senator Chimaroke Nnamani had contested for the presidential ticket of the PDP in 2007, but adhered to the overall guiding PDP and national regulation of power rotation between the northern and southern Nigeria, which made it possible for Nnamani’s co-governor, late Umaru Musa Ya’Adua to emerge as the presidential candidate of the PDP and his subsequent victory.

Onoh also flashed back to the era that the Chimaroke Nnamani-lecture series electrified the nation with thematic topics that touched to the core values of nationhood and the ideological bent of a cohesive Nigeria with determined destiny of global competitiveness.

He stated that Nnamani is still being remembered as father of the modern day regional synergy, who reshaped Enugu state to become home foe all Nigerians, instead of home for the Eastern Nigeria, adding that as a philosopher king, Nnamani resonated the triangular allegory of maturity in Njepu, Olu and Ntozu, which are the accomplishments of every ambitious country to be in the league of Nations.

According to Onoh: “My choice of Chimaroke Nnamani as running mate to the PDP presidential candidate is anchored on the facts that Nnamani is infallible; I’ve worked with him when I was in the House of Assembly and I know him as a decisive and determined character. موقع وليام هيل للمراهنات He is also a human resources manager and a nationalist who traversed the length and the breadth of Nigeria, engaging the nationalities of the country and was accepted as a Presidential aspirant. لعبة قمار

“The state of the nation and its present polarities requires a Vice President that has the balls, and Nnamani is one man I can vouch for that he cannot betray anyone or the nation. As a Governor his achievements in the state have remained the modern day monuments of the state, such as in ESUT permanent site and Teaching hospital, the Ozalla and Nkwere-Inyi water schemes, the Z.C Obi link road, dualization of major streets in Enugu, the International Conference center, and many numerous landmark achievements to mention.

“Chimaroke Nnamani is among some of the rare men who are true to their words. موقع 888 The likes of Ahmadu Ali are among some of the prominent Nigerians who know Chimaroke Nnamani very well. His Ebeano polity dynasty produced a Senate President, a Deputy Senate President, Governors, Ambassadors and PDP party executive leaders.

“Former President Olusegun Obasanjo can still attest to the fact that Chimaroke Nnamani helped to stabilize the PDP when the party shook from its foundation. Atiku Abubakar is a friend to my father and in that honour I can vouch for Chimaroke Nnamani before Atiku Abubakar that Nnamani will be a unifying factor and can wage arsenals if the going gets tough. He has built bridges around the country since 1999 and shares the same vision with the PDP flagbearer.”

Former federal lawmaker and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Dino Melaye, has said that the presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is a baby weight compared to Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

Melaye said this when he appeared on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today.

He said, “For us in the PDP, we have advised Atiku to please put together his acceptance speech because he is the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Bola Tinubu with his inordinate ambitions, campaigns and formation is no match in any way. Bola Tinubu is a baby weight compared to Atiku Abubakar. In all ramifications, politically, medically, mentally, socially even religiously.

“Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar in terms of political popularity, they are not on the same page. How can Tinubu be bigger than Atiku? How can a volkswagen be bigger than a 9/11? In terms of political experience, you cannot put Tinubu and Atiku on the same page. Atiku stepped down for MKO Abiola … Atiku Abubakar by virtue of being the VP of this country at the time have a political edge in terms of experience more than Bola Tinubu.”

Melaye further stated that Atiku is the only qualified candidate that better understands Nigeria’s lingering problems.

He added, “In terms of connections, political power, in terms of knowing and understanding this country, including the problems of this country, you cannot put them on the same page. To govern Nigeria, you have to be mentally and physically fit, it is a constitutional requirement, it’s not possible for you to have an incapacitated president.”

Super Eagles Record Biggest Win Ever In A 10-0 Win Against São Tomé And Príncipe In AFCON Qualifier

The Super Eagles grabbed three points against the The Falcons and True Parrots of São Tomé and Príncipe at the Grand Stade Agadir, also known as Adrar Stadium, on Monday.

The Nigerian team had also bagged all three points in their 2-1 defeat of Sierra Leone at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Thursday.

On Monday, Victor Osimhen scored four times to give the Super Eagles a resounding victory in their Day 2 encounter of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification series in Morocco.

Having pocketed another three points, Super Eagles are top of Group A and recorded their biggest win ever in an AFCON qualifier.

Victor Osimhen, who also scored the winner against Sierra Leone in Abuja on Thursday, scored four of the goals, starting his account with a powerful header that goalkeeper Anastacio Braganca could not just stop in the 9th minute. As early as the second minute, Osimhen, always fully charged, had flicked the ball with his head from a Zaidu Sanusi pull-out, but there was no Eagle to connect.

In the 19th minute, Terem Moffi’s shot was saved by Braganca as Nigeria dominated easily and with much efficiency, and four minutes later, a good Osimhen header from Ademola Lookman’s corner was again saved by Braganca.

In the 28th minute, defender Ola Aina’s pull-out found Osihmen, who laid for Moses Simon to tap beyond the flailing hands of Braganca for Nigeria’s second. Four minutes later, Sao Tome and Principe had their first shot at Francis Uzoho’s goal, but Luis Leal’s effort went off target.

Moffi wasted two excellent opportunities to take Nigeria higher on the scoreline, in the 36th amd 40th minute, but did just that in the 43rd minute when he beat two defenders to slam into the net from a great Osimhen pass. It was Moffi’s first goal for the Super Eagles.

In the secong half, it was all Nigeria. Osimhen’s firm header from pull-out by Lookman in the 48th minute went in for the fourth goal, and seven minutes later, Oghenekaro Etebo fired his 20 –yard free-kick into the underside of the bar and into the net for Nigeria’s fifth. Osimhen thought he had scored a sixth for Nigeria in the 57th minute, but it was ruled off-side.

On the hour mark, substitute Ahmed Musa, only two minutes on the pitch, found an onrushing Sanusi whose cross found Terem Moffi well-placed to slam the ball into the net for Nigeria’s sixth.

Three minutes later, there was another first goal for the Super Eagles. Ademola Lookman found the roof of the net after another Musa pass found Moffi and he chipped over onrushing goalie Braganca.

Osimhen got his hat-trick in the 65th minute when laid on by a sweet Ahmed Musa pass, and in the 84th minute, another brilliant Musa pass found Osimhen in the right place to score his fourth and Nigeria’s ninth.

Substitute Emmanuel Dennis won and converted a penalty kick on the dot of 90 minutes to round up a goal-spangled afternoon for Nigeria in Morocco’s southern coastal city.

In only his second competitive match in charge of Nigeria, 62 –year old Portuguese José Santos Peseiro led the Super Eagles to wallop the National Team of Sao Tome and Principe 10-0.

In the process Super Eagles obliterated Nigeria’s 63–year-old international scoring record.

Nigeria National Team, then known as Red Devils, had defeated Dahomey (former name of Benin Republic) 10-1 in a Kwame Nkrumah Cup match in Lagos on 28th November 1959.

Peseiro had said at the Aeroport Agadir Almarissa that the encounter against ‘The Falcons and True Parrots’ would bring the best out of his team as they seek to go top of the Group A table.

“We want to be the team at the top of the table, so we must fight hard against the opponents. Every match, we must commit ourselves fully to winning it. As I said earlier in the week, Nigeria have huge pedigree and they also have both quality and quantity of players. It is important that we select the best all the time to win the big games,” he had said.

Defender and deputy skipper William Ekong and midfielder Innocent Bonke had returned to their respective bases in England and France to attend to injuries copped during the international break.

Bonke was injured in the friendly game against Mexico in Dallas on May 28, while Ekong suffered a groin strain in the 2-1 defeat of Sierra Leone in Abuja on Thursday.

The Super Eagles’ next games in the qualification are against Guinea-Bissau home and away in September. ..

National Electricity Grid Crashes From 3,703MW to 9MW, Says FG

National Electricity Grid Crashes From 3,703MW to 9MW, Says FG

Figures obtained on Monday from the Nigeria Electricity System Operator, an arm of the Federal Government’s power transmission company, showed that the national electricity grid actually crashed from a peak of 3,703 megawatts to as low as 9MW on Sunday.

Nigeria witnessed widespread blackout on Sunday after the national grid collapsed around 6.49pm, before engineers from the Transmission Company of Nigeria strived to ensure the recovery of the grid.

It was reported on Monday that Sunday’s grid collapse was the fifth in 2022, a development that made many power distribution companies to shut down their various outgoing electricity feeders.

Data sourced from the NESO on Monday in Abuja, which showed the performance of the national grid on Sunday, indicated that the peak generation on Sunday of 3,703MW was recorded at 5am.

But this crashed to 9MW at 7pm on Sunday, according to the NESO, leading to the eventual collapse of the national grid.

Various Discos including Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, among others, had confirmed the grid collapse in various messages on Sunday night.

Although no official statement from TCN as per the grid collapse yet, it was gathered that its restoration reached an advanced stage on Monday, as power generation rose to 2,744.6MW around 6am on Monday.

Nigeria’s power grid had collapsed twice in March and twice again in April this year. Power generation on the system had continued to fluctuate due to various concerns such as gas constraints, water management challenges, gas pipeline vandalism, among others.

Following the instability in Nigeria’s power supply, experts and consumer groups in the sector urged politicians to desist from generating political megawatts as they woo voters ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“Stop generating political megawatts. Stop generating electric power on the pages of newspapers and social media,” an industry expert, who doubles as President, Nigeria Consumer Protection Network, Kunle Olubiyo, stated.

He added, “‘I will increase power generation from 5,000MW to 30,000MW’. How do you intend to do that? Please let us know. Nigeria presently has grid sourced power generation capacity of 7,500MW, but only an average of 3,600MW gets to the end-users.

“We also have 14,500MW installed generation capacity that our national energy quantum could be ramped up. There is available power on the grid that is usually rejected by the 11 electricity distribution companies and TCN.”

“Yet the nation have been permanently configured into a vicious circle of distribution of darkness and perpetual energy crises due to gas constraints, market settlement crises, tariff and market shortfall, near-zero regulatory ecosystem, grid infrastructural limitations, technical deficits and broadly speaking – grid constraints.”

Olubiyi said why was it that since December 2021, the power supply situation in Nigeria had gone beyond comprehension and most embarrassingly unpleasant.

The consumer group president urged the presidential candidates of the frontline political parties to speak straight to the fundamental issues “and tell Nigerians how they will address the root causes of energy crises in Nigeria.”

“And not by making bogus promises and claims as per the electricity sector. We need to be informed in specific terms how they intend to address the challenges bedeviling the power sector.”

The spokesperson for the Electricity Consumers Association of Nigeria, Chijioke James, said that electricity consumers across the country were not happy with the low power supply.

“Of course, we are not satisfied. Consumers want to have a steady and reliable power supply. We have not seen a remarkable improvement in electricity supply across the country, and consumers are not satisfied”, he said

Parish Priest of the church, Fr. Vincent Amadin, said the number of injured persons have risen.

Amadin said those who went home after the incident didn’t know they had internal injuries.

“You cannot say this is the actual figure because more than half of the church were affected. There are various forms of injuries. Some just went home with minor injuries but they are complaining now. A woman that didn’t know she had internal injuries called me yesterday after she fell.”

Oba Ogunoye III said it was unfortunate that terrorists defiled the House of God and attempted to shatter the peace enjoyed in Owo.

“It is an unfortunate incident that we never expected.

“Nigeria has been experiencing terrorist attacks but we were concerned that this incident could come to our area. We are experiencing it now. We are all challenged by what really happened. They have turned this land into a land of violence. Our humanity is challenged. The FG should focus on protecting lives and property. We should get prepared to defend ourselves. The perpetrators are looking for soft spots. We must protect ourselves. Nobody has the right to take life.”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to query universities that have failed to comply with its decision to remain on strike while negotiations with the federal government continue.

ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.

ASUU had been on strike for the past five months to press home its demands.

The striking lecturers’ demands include funding for the revitalisation of public universities, Earned Academic Allowances, use of the University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) and promotion arrears.

NAN, however, reports that since the union embarked on strike, few of its members have pulled out of the ongoing strike to resume their academic activities.

According to Osodeke, “We will punish those who have pulled out from our ongoing strike the appropriate way.

“We will ensure to query them and we will follow it up the appropriate way. We have even queried some of them in accordance with the union,” he said.

Osodeke also noted that since the last Tripartite Plus meeting called by the Chief of Staff to the President on the ongoing industrial action over a month ago, there has been no other meeting.

He said that there was nothing concrete that came out of the last meeting that was held at the villa.

“We have not been called for any other meeting since that time and the government did not offer us anything, they just ask us to be meeting with the committee, that was all.”

He also said that the union will be meeting with the government within the week.
