ASUU Strike: A Lot Is Going On Behind The Scenes – Lai Mohammed

The Federal Government has claimed “a lot is happening behind the scenes” as it seeks to resolve the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stated this while responding to State House correspondents after the weekly federal executive council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

ASUU embarked on strike since February 14 and since then, all the public universities have been shut down.

“I wish that the ASUU issue is as simple as many of us think it is. I don’t think it’s that simple. But I want to assure you that a lot is going on behind the scenes.

“And I think probably the Minister of Education will be better positioned to give the details. But like any government, if we’re not concerned, we would not set up all the committees which have been working. If we are not concerned, we will not be looking for means to even assuage the feelings of the Union.

“We’re worried, we’re concerned, and we’ll continue to work towards finding an early resolution of the problem,” Mohammed said.

Respite has come the way of the factional governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Abia, High Chief Ikechi Emenike as a High Court, sitting in Umuahia, the state capital presided over by Justice O. A. Chijioke, Wednesday, reversed itself on his suspension.

The court granted a stay of execution on its May 26 judgement which upheld the suspension of Emenike from his Nkwoegwu ward chapter of the APC.

By this judgement, Emenike’s membership of APC is no longer in doubt even as another High Court sitting in Umunneochi, presided over by Justice Benson Anya had on November 4, 2021, nullified the said suspension.

The judgement on the suit No HU/6/2022:Chinedum Nnoke & 3 Ors Vs High Chief Ikechi Emenike & 2 Ors was delivered shortly after Emenike’s victory in the party’s governorship primary election.

Speaking after the order, Counsel to the APC governorship flag bearer, Emenike, Vigilus Nwankwo, said the order was consequent upon an appeal against the judgement and a motion for stay of the execution.

He expressed delight that the court had graciously granted the stay of execution order.

According to him, the matter will be dealt with at the appeal court where they are already challenging the earlier judgement.

“The legal battle now moves to the Court of Appeal to determine if the judgment will stand or not based on our appeal. The mission to rescue Abia state is unstoppable as God is still and remains on the throne,” he said.

When contacted, the state Chairman of APC, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu, described the judgement as cheering to the teeming members of the party.

“The suit is part of the hurdles we’re likely to encounter on our journey to liberate the state. And I want to assure the residents that the end of their hard times will begin as soon as we assume office,” he added.

The petition was signed by PDP lawmakers in the state. Twenty-four out of the 32 members of the House signed the petition against Olaniyan which was read during plenary on Wednesday.

He said the lawmakers would give the deputy governor a seven-day grace period to respond to the allegations raised against him. The seven days would expire on June 22.

Ogundoyin stated that failure to do so could lead to the commencement of his removal process.

Jet Fuel Scarcity: Airlines May Close Business Soon, Operators Lament

There is no end in sight to the crisis over aviation fuel known as Jet A1 as the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has raised fears that three airlines may soon shut down operations.

Though the three airlines were not mentioned, the Vice-President of AON, Mr. Allen Onyema, confirmed that the fuel price has now hit an all-time high of N714 per litre.

ABN TV reports that several interventions by the Federal Government and the National Assembly have failed to resolve the crisis as the price of Jet A1 continues to skyrocket. العاب لربح المال على النت

In his presentation at the ongoing Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) National Aviation Conference (FNAC) in Abuja, Onyema said while the aviation fuel crisis is not limited to Nigeria, it was made worse by the naira to dollar exchange.

He disclosed that in order to address the challenge, the Federal Government had approved 10,000 metric tonnes of aviation fuel to the airlines but said the carriers were yet to access it.

He noted that 16 months ago, the price of aviation fuel was about N200 per litre but has risen to over N700 per litre today in the local market.

He said: “That is why we ran to the government and the Federal Government has given us about 10,000 metric tonnes of fuel at the cost of N580 per litre in Lagos and about N607 per litre outside Lagos.

“This is not the only issue. Since the COVID-19 crisis, most airlines all over the world, including Nigeria have not recovered from COVID-19, except those whose countries have injected so much funds to assist them. This is nobody’s fault. It just happened. The government has tried its best by giving us this aviation fuel. This aviation fuel can take airlines out, not only in Nigeria but everywhere in the world. كيف تربح في القمار

“Some airlines outside Nigeria have closed down because of the effects of rising aviation fuel. If these things are not addressed in Nigeria, it can affect the bottom-line of all airlines in Nigeria.

“We have come to realise that there is little or nothing the committee set up can do because this is as a result of foreign exchange and the price of oil all over the world now. The fuel marketers will sell according to what they are paying. موقع العرب The cost of aviation fuel has increased, even in London and every other country. Our own is worse because of the increase in foreign exchange.”

APC Muslim-Muslim Ticket: Buhari’s Islamization Agenda – HURIWA Claims

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has again warned political parties in the country against positioning or presenting a Muslim-Muslim ticket for their presidential candidates in the coming 2023 election.

The group warned that this will confirm the alleged claim that President Muhammadu Buhari is pushing for the full Islamization of Nigeria.

HURIWA claimed that the plot is to continue to have the Muslims dominate all strategic and key political positions in Nigeria such as the President, Vice President, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives and to repeat President Buhari’s appointment of only Muslims to head the key security agencies.

“We are uniquely worried by the organised and well-choreographed, well oiled, well funded and properly engineered campaigns by Islamic fundamentalists such as Governor Nassir El-Rufai and others using some Christians like Orji Kalu, Femi Fani-Kayode to canvass the infantile opinion that either it does not matter that candidates for the office of President, Vice President or Governor and Deputy Governor should comply with the simple constitutional demand of the federal character principles in appointments and elective positions.

Kalu had on Wednesday argued that Tinubu can use a Muslim running mate because his wife is a Christian clergy, and HURIWA described this assertion as puerile, irrational and totally illogical, and warped thinking, adding that it is like presuming that the office of President is like the office of General Overseer of a pentecostal Church

HURIWA said it agreed with the time-honoured and time-tested explanation offered by an academic expert, Jude Chukwuma Onyeakazi that the issue of national integration and the peaceful coexistence of the pluralistic and multi-cultural Nigerians in Nigeria has been a national discourse in the country since it secured independence in 1960.

The rights group said the “poisonous chalice of the Muslim-Muslim ticket by the APC is capable of inflaming religious passions, hatred, and sectarian division if carried through.

HURIWA said “it is aware that the plot is to foist an Islamic state because what will happen is that Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is a hard-core Muslim extremist but masquerading as a moderate because his wife is a so-called deacon in Redeemed Christian Church of God.

Confirming the incident, the police spokesman in the state, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said they have got the report.

Release Nnamdi Kanu To End Insecurity In South-East – Amaechi Begs Buhari

Mbazulike Amaechi, a First Republic Aviation Minister, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal government to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Amaechi said Kanu’s release would end the spate of insecurity in the Southeast.

He noted that most criminals claiming to be agitating for Kanu would go into hiding if the IPOB leader is released.

“There is only one key to the solution to killings in Igbo land now, and that is the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

“If that young man is released, you will see all these criminals who spring up claiming to be agitating for the release of Nnamdi Kanu while their real intention is to rob innocent and unsuspecting people, will go into hiding because they will have nothing as a reason to come out.

“IPOB has disowned them and has even taken measures to apprehend them but as you know, criminals will have their ways of operating and claiming one fake thing or the other, but they are simple criminals operating one way or the other,” Amaechi spoke to journalists yesterday as part of events to mark his 94th birthday.
