2023: I Am In Talks With Kwankwaso – Peter Obi Counters NNPP’s Statement

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has insisted he is still in talks with his New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) counterpart, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Obi stated this during a panel session at the Men of Valour Conference convened by the Revival House of Glory in Abuja.

The former Anambra State Governor noted it is past time for prayers alone to salvage the country.

“We have prayed enough, it is time to act. With these people in power? You can pray from now until any time, they won’t go until you chase them out.

“So it is time to act, not just pray. It is time for us to close the church and deal with these people,” he declared.

Obi also confirmed negotiations were ongoing between LP and NNPP.

He said: “All I can say is that what he said is correct. I can’t say more than that.”

Earlier in the day, the National Publicity Secretary of NNPP, Agbo Major, claimed there was never a time such a discussion or negotiation was held between Kwankwaso and Obi.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party has dismissed reports that its Presidential Candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, will contest the 2023 Presidential elections as running mate to his counterpart in the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi.

According to the NNPP, there was never a time such a discussion or negotiation was held.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Dr Agbo Major, said this in Abuja, on Sunday. betfinal بالعربي

He said, “NNPP has never at any time said its esteemed Presidential Candidate, His Excellency, Engr. Dr. Rabiu Musa kwankwaso could accept to be Labour Party, Peter Obi’s deputy.

The report is misleading and embarrassing to our great party, its Presidential Candidate, Kwankwaso and millions of supporters in Nigeria and in the diaspora, and urges journalists to crosscheck their reports before publishing them to avoid national disaffection ahead of the crucial 2023 general election.

“As a mass movement, NNPP acknowledged alliance talks with Labour Party that would consolidate and boost the nation’s frail democracy as we collectively strive for a new Nigeria which the party champions. لعبة الروليت اون لاين

He noted that the NNPP has high regard for journalists as the watchdog of society and major stakeholders in the Nigeria democratic process and urges them to always crosscheck their reports before publishing them in tandem with the ethics of their profession.

Major expressed confidence that together with the media, the NNPP “shall build a strong, virile, progressive and egalitarian democratic society.“

2023 Presidency: APC, PDP Betrayed Us On Zoning — Ohanaeze Ndigbo

The Council of Elders, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has said that rotating the country’s presidency within its six geo-political zones should be made constitutional for equity, justice, and fairness going forward.

Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Chairman of the council, said this while briefing newsmen at the end of its extraordinary meeting on Sunday in Abuja.

He said limiting the zoning of the country’s presidency to the North and South is vague and should therefore be discouraged.

Iwuanyanwu said the council believes that if it was agreed that the presidency should be zoned to the South in 2023, since the South-West and South-South had produced the country’s presidents, it was now the turn of the South-East.

According to him, the South-East leaders did everything possible to convince the South-West and South-South leaders on the need for it to produce the country’s next president in 2023.

He said the leaders, including Middle Belt leaders, agreed that it was the turn of the South-East and even made public statements to support Igbo presidency in 2023.

He added that while the leaders agreed that it was the turn of the South-East to produce the country’s next president at the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure in 2023, the political class took a contrary decision.

“The political class, unfortunately, took another decision which made us feel terribly betrayed, not by the elders, but by the political class.

“Because we are sure that the elders in the whole South and middle belt supported Igbo presidency in 2023.

“So it is our strong view that issues of zoning the presidency should be put in the Constitution and it should be rotated among the country’s six geo-political zones.

“The question of rotating the presidency between North and South is very vague, after all, the federal character is very glaring,” Iwuanyanwu said.

He added that though the South-East geo-political zone was disappointed that none of the two major political parties zoned its presidential ticket to the region, it would not boycott the 2023 general elections as being speculated.

He said Nigerians of Igbo extraction are major stakeholders in the Nigerian project and the only tribe seen across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) doing businesses and contributing to national development.

“We are not going to abandon Nigeria, we are the biggest investors in any part of the country, so we are not going to withdraw our participation in any political activities.

“We will fully participate in all political activities ahead of 2023 general elections, but we are going to watch and probably make a statement later.

“But let it be known to Nigerians that Igbos are going to fully participate in the 2023 general elections,” he said.

He, meanwhile, decried the situation where certain persons made claims on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, adding that the council had only one recognised structure, headed by Pro. George Obiozor, its President General, and Amb. Okey Emuchay, its General Secretary.

“The Council of Elders, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, is worried that some people make reckless statements on behalf of Ohanaeze, Nigerians should ignore such persons.

“The only persons authorised to make statements on behalf of Ohanaeze is Prof. George Obiozor and Amb. Okey Emuchay,” Iwuanyanwu said.

He added that the council had, however, passed a vote of absolute confidence on Obiozor’s leadership because he was doing well.

He expressed concern over the current insecurity problems in the country, saying that there was a need for the Federal Government to do more to address the situation before it gets out of hand.

He also expressed sadness over the recent killings of some worshipers at St. Francis Catholic Church Owo, Ondo State, noting that most of those killed were of Igbo extraction.

He said the council had directed that a letter of condolence should be sent to the Ondo State governor to express the views and support of the council to the people of the state.

“By our Constitution, Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State is our son-in-law and an honorary member of Ohanaeze because he is marrying our daughter so also their children,” Iwuanyanwu said.

He further added that the council at the meeting, set up different committees to proffer ways of addressing issues affecting the South-East region, especially in areas of education, electricity and security among others.

The secretary of a faction of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Abia state chapter, Perfect Okorie has said his faction of the party in the state remains intact and has not collapsed her structure with any other.

Okorie’s clarification came on the heels of reports making the rounds that factional groups of the party and their leaders met at the weekend and resolved to bury the hatchet and forge a united front ahead of the 2023 general election.

In the said report, the former chairman of the party in the state, Hon Donatus Nwamkpa was quoted as having preached peace and reconciliation and urged party members to jettison divisive activities and embrace the only one APC in Abia recognised by the national secretariat of the party, with Ikechi Emenike as her flag bearer for the 2023 governorship election.

However, Okorie said it could not be true that Nwamkpa made the statement.

“I know that Donatus Nwamkpa who is our former chairman will not come out to make such comments.

APC, Abia under the acting chairmanship of Hon Goldie Nwagbara and myself as secretary is still intact, has not moved, cannot move; has not negotiated with anybody and is not willing to negotiate with anybody to the extent of saying that we are collapsing our structure.

“We know we are the true APC in the state irrespective of the antics that might be playing around. We are the authentic APC”.

Okorie said if there is any structure that was collapsing, it should collapse with their own, adding that “if there is any faction that exists in anybody’s imagination, they should come and collapse with us”.

On who the Governorship candidate of the party is, Okorie said it was Ogah. “On May 25, we held our party governorship primary in tandem with the directives of the NWC of our party which was the direct primary.

“But certain persons who believed they cannot stand the test of a fair contest, went and conducted a concocted process which they called indirect primaries.

“Whatever is the outcome, that is there business, but one thing remains very sacrosanct and that is, there can never be any indirect primaries in Abia state reason being that apart from the letter written by the national chairman of the party to that effect, it is on record that even INEC noted that Abia APC never conducted any delegates congress to create room for any indirect primary”.

The APC state scribe said on their own, they conducted the primaries according to the directives of the NWC, which produced the former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Ogah as the party’s flag bearer in the state.

The process that produced Ogah was duly monitored by INEC and the records are there, so, whatever any other person is doing, remains a mere waste of time“, he said.

A three-storey building near the popular Ahiaeke market on Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Expressway on the outskirts of Umuahia, the Abia State capital on Sunday caved in.

The eight-flat apartment was said to be occupied as at the moment of the incident.

No casualty has been reported as of the time of filing this report.

Sources attributed the building collapse to use of substandard materials.

Others said it was a long exposure of the building to harsh weather conditions.

A resident of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the building collapsed under Saturday’s night rainfall in the Umuahia and adjourning cities.

It was learnt the building, though yet-to-be-completed, has lasted for over 30 years.

It was gathered though some tenants have lived in the building for some years, sources say construction work began recently on the building apparently with the hope to complete the structure.

“This building started when I was in secondary school nearly forty years ago and has never been completed. But owing to the scarcity of residential buildings people decided to inhabit it uncompleted leaving the owners the chance to complete it bit by bit as they collect more rents.

“The wing that collapsed is not yet fully inhabited as the would-be tenant just paid in the money which as you can see is being used to work out those flats,” a source said.

Tenants of the collapsed building were reportedly moving their property to a safer place as they shunned efforts to speak to journalists.

Mbaka’s Followers Protest Shutting Down Of Adoration Ministry As Ohanaeze Youths Call For Caution

Father Mbaka’s Followers Protest Ban Of Adoration Ministry

The youth wing of the apex Igbo social-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, has called for restraint in handling the matter involving Enugu Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka.

ABN TV had reported that thousands of Mbaka’s supporters took to the street on Sunday protesting the closure of the Adoration Ministry.

Reacting to the development, the President-General of OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike said Mbaka’s issue was a delicate one and should be treated as such.

Okwu said in the statement that there was a need for a delicate caution in handling Mbaka owing to his large followership.

He urged the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Bishop Callistus Onaga to consider lifting the ban on Mbaka “to avoid escalation of protest and unrest in one of the most peaceful States in Nigeria.”

Okwu added that “since Fr. Mbaka has rendered an unreserved apology to the church and Mr Peter Obi, the Bishop should forgive him.

“Besides, as a Christian, I believe in prophecy but when the prophecy comes we return to God in prayers to avert it, we don’t think it’s a call for war.

“We apologize to Mr Peter Obi and the Catholic Church and urge Peter Obi accept the apology made by Mbaka and address his supporters. We also appeal to the church to lift the ban on the adoration ministry.”

While noting that the shutdown of the Adoration had wider implications, the Ohanaeze youths stated that, “Fr. Mbaka is the highest employer of labour in Enugu State. Whenever you touch him, you are looking for the problem of thousands of people in and outside the State.

“He’s a generous man that uses the work of God to put food on the table of the less privileged. What will be the faith of more than 1000 people he’s training in different schools both in Nigeria and abroad?

“We please urge the church to reconsider their decision and lift the ban.”

Meanwhile, Okwu used the opportunity to call on the supporters of various political parties in the South-East and the nation in general not to see this election as a do-or-die affair.

He said the rights of Nigerians to support every candidate of their choice must be respected.

“We have freedom of association and speech as enshrined in the 1999 constitution; they should be diplomatic on their approach to issues, they should convince people rather than attack the individuals,” he stated.

Father Mbaka’s Followers Protest Ban Of Adoration Ministry

Followers of controversial Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka on Sunday took to the streets of Umuchigbo in Enugu metropolis to protest the ban on the Adoration Ministry Enugu headed by the priest.

The Bishop of Enugu Catholic Diocese, Most. Rev. Callistus Onaga on Saturday banned all priests and Catholic faithful from attending Mbaka’s Adoration Ministry following the priest’s scathing remarks on Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Mbaka on Wednesday at his Adoration grounds said Obi would never be the President because he is a stingy man, adding the politician is cursed.

The priest’s remarks drew heavy criticisms from various quarters, prompting the underfire priest to backtrack and apologise for maligning Obi and injuring his supporters.

Despite that Bishop Onaga prohibited the Catholic faithful from attending his Adoration until the due canonical process initiated by the Diocese is concluded.

Bishop Onaga explained the decision was based on the fact that some of the teachings and utterances of Fr Mbaka at the Catholic Adoration Ministry were not consistent with the teachings and faith of the Catholic Church

However, less than 24 hours after the ban on Mbaka’s Adoration, his followers gathered on Sunday morning at the Adoration ground and started a massive protest against Bishop Onaga.

The protesters, who chanted song condemned the Bishop with unprintable names.

They queried his authority for clamping down on the Mbaka’s Ministry.

One of them said: “Our Spiritual Director has done nothing wrong. He is a man of God and talks as the spirit leads him. So, Bishop Onaga cannot just wake up and ban the ministry. They are trying to dictate to him what to say and what not to say.”

The angry protesters also attacked journalists and anyone who dared to take pictures of the protest.

As of the time of filing this report the protest was ongoing within the Adoration ground.

It was observed that a BBC Igbo journalist who was covering the protest live was forcefully stopped by members of the ministry.

An officiating priest at the Holy Ghost Cathedral of Enugu Catholic Diocese on Sunday, Rev. Fr. Michael Ogbuh, has told Mbaka’s followers they are the greatest enemy of their Spiritual Director.

In a veiled reference to Mbaka, Fr. Ogbuh, who was speaking during his homily about the Holy Eucharist, said it was the same people who praised Mbaka to high heavens that make him feel like a small god.

“Exactly a year ago, some of you led a protest to destroy this cathedral. That is what makes him feel like a small god and refuse to stick to his vow of obedience.

“You have to focus your attention on Jesus Christ who we are celebrating today in the Eucharist,” he said.
