We Will Probe Supreme Justices’ Allegations Despite CJN’s Resignation – Senate

The Senate on Tuesday declared the resignation of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad won’t stop its probe of corruption allegations against him by Justices of the apex court.

The resolution of the Red Chamber followed a motion by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.

Bamidele’s motion was titled: “Matter of urgent public importance on the state of affairs in the Supreme Court of Nigeria and demand by Justices of the court, pursuant to rules 41 and 51 of the Senate Standing Orders, 2022 (as amended).”

This is not the first time the actress is coming out to announce she wants to back out of the marriage. A few years ago, the actress took to her page and shared a video crying and disclosing that she was not happy in her marriage and wants to back out.

However, she came out to retract her comment saying that she was suffering from bipolar. The actress alleged that whenever she gets pregnant, she experiences a phase of bipolar.

Ex-Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has praised Nigerian youths for their interest in Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVC).

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) said he had observed their eagerness to get their cards ahead of the 2023 elections.

The rush for PVCs in many states forced the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the June 30 deadline for registration.

In a statement, Turaki noted that the development was a sign that young Nigerians are ready to decide the outcome of the general polls.

The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant charged them not to be deterred and remain focused.

Turaki stressed that the youths of Africa’s most populous nation have the numbers and the power to effect real change.

“Right now, it is clear that whichever direction young persons asked us to go is where we are going.

“From the videos and pictures I have seen, the young people of Nigeria are tired of the status quo and are going out in large numbers to register to vote.

“Seeing the level of civic engagement on social media and on the streets, it is clear that young Nigerians are ready to take charge at all levels”, he said

Turaki advised the youths to elect leaders that have the capacity to address the country’s economic and security crises.

The former Minister appealed to them not to only register but turn out en masse on election days next year.

Buhari Jets Out To Abu Dhabi For Two-Day Visit

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday, June 28, depart Abuja on a State Visit to Portugal at the invitation of President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

The President, who will hold official talks with his Portuguese counterpart will be conferred with the country’s National Honour and decorated with ‘Great Collar of the Order of Prince Henry’ Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said in a statement.

The two Presidents are expected to chair an enlarged bilateral meeting and witness the signing of some agreements bordering on issues of mutual concern.

President Buhari will also visit the Portuguese Parliament and hold discussions with its president, Dr Augusto Santo Silva, as well as the Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa.

The president will also address a Forum of Nigerian and Portuguese businessmen and hold separate meetings with select Portuguese Chief Executive Officers and prospective investors to Nigeria.

President Buhari will also participate in the United Nations Ocean Conference, which began in Lisbon on Monday, June 27, and runs till July 1.

The Conference, co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal and supported by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), aims to accelerate the adoption of science-based innovative solutions to challenges facing oceans and the global marine ecosystem.

The Nigerian leader is also expected to engage members of the Nigerian community in Portugal on matters affecting them and developments at home.

The President will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo; Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare and Minister ofCommunication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.

Others are National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (rtd); Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar and Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Honorable Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Buhari Jets Out To Abu Dhabi For Two-Day Visit

Two days after his return from Kigali in Rwanda, President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday jet out to the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, on a four-day state visit.

Buhari on Sunday afternoon returned to Abuja after attending the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in the capital of Rwanda, Kigali.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the President, who will hold official talks with his Portuguese counterpart will be conferred with the country’s National Honour and decorated with ‘Great Collar of the Order of Prince Henry.’

The two Presidents are expected to chair an enlarged bilateral meeting and witness the signing of some agreements bordering on issues of mutual concern.

Again, Court Remands Rivers PDP Governorship Aspirant Dagogo

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has granted bail to the embattled lawmaker representing Degema – Bonny Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Farah Dagogo.

Dagogo, a Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in the state for the 2023 elections, was granted bail on Tuesday after been incarcerated for 62 days.

Dagogo was granted bail to the tune of N20 million or a surety in like sum with a landed property worth the same amount.

Justice Chiwendu Nworgu granted Dagogo bail after listening to all arguments by his counsel and counsel to the Rivers State government.

Dagogo was arrested by a team of policemen on April 28, 2022, at the venue of the screening exercise for the PDP’s governorship aspirants in Port Harcourt, less than four days after Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike had reportedly declared him wanted for allegedly hiring suspected cultists to disrupt a screening exercise at the party secretariat.

The West should not show signs of fatigue amid the Ukrainian crisis, UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said in an interview published in Spain’s El Pais newspaper.

“There is a lot of support for Ukraine in Europe,” the foreign secretary said, “I spoke with ministers from the Group of Seven on Friday, and we all agree to give Ukraine all the support it needs and to strengthen sanctions against Russia.” “But in this crisis, the unity that has been shown has become very important,” she added, “I ask you to maintain it (unity – TASS) and not to show signs of fatigue or a desire to give in.”

According to Truss, NATO’s response to the situation around Ukraine “should be to increase its presence [in eastern Europe] and make it more permanent”. She also believes that Western troops “must prepare for all possible contingencies.”

“We cannot have an unconvenient peace with Russia’s continued presence in Ukraine,” the minister argued, “I believe that all of Ukraine’s territories have been illegally occupied. <...> Ultimately, this is about what Ukrainians want.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on February 24 that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation, after which the US, the EU, the UK, as well as some other states, imposed sanctions against Russian persons and legal entities.
