Ayodele Fayose

A former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, on Wednesday said considering the fact that the incumbent Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, is “a two-term northern presidency”, power must shift to the South in 2023.

ABN TV reports that during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary election in May, Fayose did not record any vote. He was unable to secure the mandate of 16 Ekiti delegates in the exercise and was believed to have done a deal with Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State, who was a co-aspirant, as he did not campaign at all.

Now, the PDP chieftain’s social media post suggests he will not be supporting Atiku Abubakar, the presidential flag bearer of the PDP. Atiku is a northerner, from Adamawa State.

“The current President of Nigeria is a 2-term Northern Presidency, thus implying that it MUST be a Southern Presidency in 2023 or NOTHING. Awa ‘South’ lo kan’ (we are next). Nigerians should await details soon,” Fayose wrote on his known Twitter handle.

FG Hires Lawyers To Defend Ike Ekweremadu, Wife In UK

The Federal Government through the Nigerian High Commission to the United Kingdom has hired lawyers to defend a former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice, over allegations of organ harvesting, ABN TV learnt.

The Senate President Ahmad Lawan who disclosed this after a closed-door session of the chamber on Wednesday added that a delegation of the Chamber would on or before Friday this week visit Ekweremadu and his wife in London.

Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice were last week arrested and arraigned at Uxbridge Magistrates Court in London over allegations of organ harvesting.

The Court had ruled that the former Deputy Senate President and his wife be remanded in custody till July 7, 2022, which is the next adjournment date.

The visit according to Lawan would be undertaken by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs chaired by Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa.

He said during the closed session, the lawmakers were briefed about Ekweremadu’s travail and also apprised of the role the Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafadeen Ishola, has been playing to ensure that Ekweremadu gets all needed assistance.

He commended the High Commissioner and his team for the work they are doing in providing needed consular support for Ekweremadu.

“The High Commission has been providing all Consular Services including the engagement of lawyers to defend Ekweremadu,” Lawan said.

He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been engaged and is currently providing diplomatic support to Ekweremadu.

He assured Ekweremadu’s family that the Senate would work to get all needed support for Ekweremadu and his wife to overcome the present challenge.

According to Lawan, the decision to wade in Ekweremadu’s and his wife’s arrest and detention over allegations of organ harvesting was against the backdrop of a briefing received from the Nigerian High Commissioner to London.

He further disclosed that the Senate would engage the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nigerian High Commission in London on the recent arrest of Senator Ike Ekweremadu by the London Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom.

Lawan said, “I had a personal engagement with our Nigerian High Commissioner to Britain, Alhaji Ishola Sarafa, who has done so well to establish contact with our colleague, who has been able to get his team to be in the court at Uxbridge where Ekweremadu was taken to.

“The High Commission has also been able to provide some consular services that include the engagement of some lawyers who will defend our colleague.

“We commend them for giving attention to the issue at stake. Equally, the Nigeria Foreign Affairs Minister has been engaged here, so that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs takes steps to provide diplomatic support for our colleague.

“Because this issue is already in court, we have limited opportunity to discuss beyond what we have done so far.

“But I want to assure the family of our colleague, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and Nigerians, that the Senate will continue to engage with our Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as our High Commission in London.

“The High Commission has done so much but we still expect that it will continue to provide any other further consular services.

“We have also mandated our committee on Foreign Affairs to engage with the British High Commission here in Nigeria, to find more details on this case, as as far as the High Commission is involved.

“There will be a delegation to London to see Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife. A delegation from the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Senate will leave in the next two days to London for that purpose.

“I want to urge all Federal Government institutions that can do anything to ensure that justice prevails in this case, that they do so.”

Russia’s US Ambassador Anatoly Antonov

The recent wave of West’s anti-Russian restrictions imposed over the special military operation in Ukraine has exacerbated the global food crisis, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov has said.

“As to the food security, it was the wave of anti-Russian restrictions, imposed by the US-led collective West, that spurred the global food crisis. Its root causes are incompetent macroeconomic steps taken by a number of developed nations, climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic,” the embassy’s press service quoted the ambassador as saying.

According to the diplomat, the crisis can be solved “only through free access of grain and fertilizers, including Russian ones, to global markets.”

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request from the leaders of the two Donbass republics. The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans to occupy Ukrainian territories but that the goal was to demilitarize and denazify the country. تكساس هولدم

President Buhari Led Government Supporting Fulanis To Take Over Nigeria – Gov Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has accused President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government of actively supporting Fulanis to take over Nigeria.

Ortom, who appeared on Arise TV on Wednesday morning, said this while speaking on the insecurity in Benue.

He described as barbaric, the gruesome killing of farmers in Edumoga, Okpokwu Local Government Area of the state by gunmen believed to be herdsmen.

Recall that more than 24 persons were recently killed in their sleep in Benue communities by suspected Fulani herdsmen

The suspected Fulani herdsmen had invaded and killed 8 persons in Mbadwem, Guma Local Government and 16 in Tiortyu, a sprawling settlement in Tarka Local Government, along Makurdi-Gboko road.

But Ortom believes the recent attacks in his state by militia Fulani herdsmen have to do with their agenda to take over the entire country.

Ortom said, “It is not just about a certain local government area, It is about the entire state, it is about the entire country, Nigeria.

“Tell me where else, is it in Zamfara, where the Hausa people live and the Fulanis have decided to take over the land.

“Is it in Kaduna, where the indigenous people were either traditionalist or Christians now they have been taken over.

“Is it in the South East or in the Middle BeIt where the Fulanis have decided that they are going to take over this country and actively they have been supported by the present government of President Muhammadu Buhari

“Like I said, I know they are not happy, we know they are angry. But that is the truth. Even if I am dead, let it be on record just like Martin Luther King of America who stood for the grass and said the truth. I am ready to do it.

“This is the truth the Fulanis have made up their mind to take Nigeria as their own country and using Islam as a tool to ensure that they are in control.”

Governors Are More Responsible For States’ Development Than President Says Babatunde Fashola
Babatunde Fashola

The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday, said governors were more responsible for the development of their states than the President of the country.

In his speech at the 6th edition of the Gabfest, an annual programme of the minister, Fashola also pointed out that state governors were responsible for the security of citizens in their states alongside the Federal Government.

He said, “I do not know how many recall the contents of my speech about how I tried to show how more important the governor of my state is to my development than the President of Nigeria.

“For example, I pointed out that there is nowhere in the constitution that security is listed as the responsibility of the Federal Government or President alone.

“In the second schedule of the constitution where the responsibility of the Federal Government is set only, you will see responsibility for the police, the armed forces, etc, which are law enforcement agencies; but you will not see the word ‘security’.”

He added, “If you take a narrow view of what security entails, you might be tempted to conclude that this is only a federal affair.

“But if you understand that these, agencies except for the deterrence that they may offer, usually arrive when there is a breach of security.”

The minister stated that security was an all-government affair.

“This is supported by section 14 2(b) of the constitution where the word ‘security’ is used. It provides that: ‘(b) the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government,” Fashola stated.

He added, “It does not say which government, and my view is that it is every government; local, state, and federal.”

He said security, therefore, involved more than the deployment of armed personnel.

“It is the effective deployment of socio-economic resources to create a state of harmony,” the minister stated.

He added, “Breaches of security have evolved from conflicts over land, for which the Federal Government has no responsibility or control, to conflict over natural resources over which the Federal Government has responsibility and control.

“Governors have as much a responsibility to keep us safe. It starts in my view with how they oversee the development of the human capital. This is less of federal responsibility and more of state because people live in states.”
