A joint task force commander and a resident of Sabon Gero community, New Millennium City Settlement, in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State were killed when bandits stormed the area on Tuesday.

The invasion of the bandits in the community also led to the abduction of a medical doctor and 16 others.

A source told ABN TV that the bandits came to the community around 10pm on motorcycles, shooting sporadically, scaring the residents before abducting their victims.

According to the source, the late JTF commander opened fire on sighting the bandits not knowing that the bandits had closed in on his team.

According to the source, the situation would have been worse but for the quick intervention of neighbouring communities, who mobilised and chased away the bandits.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mohammed Jalige, the State Police Public Relations Officer could not respond to a call put on his phone to confirm the incident.

Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, told CNN on Wednesday, that NATO has been “naive” in its relations with Russia over the years.

Speaking from the NATO summit in Madrid, Sánchez said that NATO is “sending a clear message to Putin, which is that we are going to support Ukraine, and we are ready to support Ukraine until the Russian troops leave the country and they respect the territorial integrity and the national sovereignty of Ukraine.

“I think it is important to send this message of unity and determination of the international community, especially NATO allies, and of course the G7, in order to make it possible to return to a scenario where different countries – especially Russia in this case – respect a rules-based international order, which is undermined because of this terrible war in Ukraine,” Sánchez continued.

Earlier US President Joe Biden had announced a significant strengthening of US force posture in Europe, vowing that NATO will meet every threat from Russia from the air, sea, or land. موقع حقيقي لربح المال

Singer R Kelly Sentenced To 30 Years In Prison Over Sexual Abuse

R&B singer, R Kelly, has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment after being found guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering involving women, girls, and boys.

The jail sentence was handed down to Kelly in the trial that has lasted for several years.

Last September, a jury in New York City found Kelly guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering, on all nine counts against him.

On Wednesday, US district judge Ann Donnelly, imposed the sentence at the federal court in Brooklyn after hearing from several survivors who attested to how Kelly’s exploitation reverberated across their lives.

At the trial, victims had described how Kelly, real name Robert Sylvester Kelly, subjected them to perverse and sadistic whims when they were underage. Several said he would demand that they strictly obey rules such as needing his permission to eat or go to the bathroom, and writing “apology letters” that purported to absolve him of wrongdoing.

Ahead of sentencing on Wednesday, The Guardian reports that some of the victims made statements, including “Angela”, who said, “with every addition of a new victim you grew in wickedness”. On this day of sentencing “we reclaim our names”, she said. “We are no longer the preyed-upon individuals we once were.”

In her victim statement, Lizette Martinez said: “Robert, you destroyed so many people’s lives.”

Another, unnamed victim who directly addressed Kelly as he kept his hands folded and his eyes downcast, said: “You made me do things that broke my spirit. I literally wished I would die because of how low you made me feel. Do you remember that?”

Kelly’s case attracted attention in light of the #MeToo movement, during which powerful men have been held to account for sexual misconduct and sexual assault. Kelly follows Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, and other prominent abusers in being sentenced to time behind bars, although Cosby was acquitted on appeal.

The singer, whose hits include Ignition and I Believe I Can Fly, was represented by Jennifer Bonjean, a lawyer who represented Cosby.

Investigations revealed that the convict belonged to a syndicate of internet fraudsters who specialized in Business Email Compromise-BEC.

Reps Probe Petrol Subsidy Under President Buhari, Allege $7 Billion Diversion

The House of Representatives has set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the petroleum products subsidy regime under President Muhammadu Buhari.

The lawmakers asked the committee to carry out the probe from 2017 to 2021.

This followed the adoption of the motion by Rep Sergius Ose Ogun.

Ogun, in his motion, expressed worries that the subsidy regime has been “unscrupulously” used by the NNPC Ltd and other critical stakeholders to subvert the nation’s crude oil revenue to the tune of over $10 billion, with records
showing that as at 2021, over 7 billion US dollars in over 120 million barrels have been so diverted.

He also said there exist evidence that subsidy amounts are being duplicated, adding that “subsidy is charged
against petroleum products sales in the books of NNPC Ltd as well as against crude oil revenue in the books of NAPIMS to the tune of over N2 trillion.

He expressed worries that component costs in the petroleum products subsidy value chain claimed by the NNPC Ltd is “highly over-bloated while the transfer pump price per litre used by the NNPC Ltd in relation to PPMC is underquoted as N123-N128 instead of N162-N165 and this fraudulent under-reporting of N37-N39 per
litre translates into over 70 billion naira a month or 840 billion naira a year.

“The House is worried that the consumption rate of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) is 40 million to 45 million litres per day; however, the NNPC Ltd uses 65 million to 100 million litres per day to determine subsidy as discoverable
from NNPC’s monthly reports to the Federal Allocation Committee (FAAC)”, he said.

He informed the House that as of 2002, the NNPC’s purchase of crude oil at international market prices stood at 445,000 barrels per day in order to enable it to provide petroleum products for local consumption.

Ogun further said that as of 2002, the installed capacity of Nigeria’s local refineries stood at 445,000 barrels per
day, adding however, that their capacity utilization began to nosedive and eventually fell completely to zero due to the ineffectiveness and alleged corruption of critical stakeholders in the value chain.

Ogun said due to the decline in the production capacity of the refineries, NNPC found it more convenient
to export domestic crude in exchange for petroleum products on trade by barter basis described as Direct
Sales Direct Purchase (DSDP) arrangement.

Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, while ruling on the motion, said the issue of subsidy regime has been a thing of concern, describing the motion as very important.

He directed the Deputy Speaker of the House, the House Leader and the Chief Whip to come up with a view crack team that probe the subsidy regime in the country.

Nnamdi Kanu: Justice Nyako Only Read Buhari’s Judgment — Sir Udensi [VIDEO]

Interpol Systems Consultant and a chieftain of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA Sir Chikwe Udensi has said the judgement of federal high court Abuja on Tuesday which denied the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB Mazi Nnamdi Kanu bail was since delivered by President Muhammadu Buhari, but only read by the presiding judge, Honourable Justice Binta Nyako.

Sir Udensi said Buhari delivered the judgement five days before the court decided on Nnamdi Kanu’s bail application when he (Buhari) spoke in Kigali, Rwanda during a meeting of Heads of Government where he openly said that Nnamdi Kanu will not get bail, citing his refusal to adhere to terms of bail earlier granted to him.

According to the President, Nnamdi Kanu had jumped bail and will not be granted fresh bail.

Featuring on a radio programme, Open Parliament in Umuahia which was streamed live by ABN TV and Radio, Sir Udensi said what Buhari said in Kigali was exactly what Justice Nyako read in court word by word.

He, therefore, expressed disappointment that the independence of the judiciary is under threat, wondering why Buhari as a member of the executive arm of government should interfere with the affairs of the judiciary.

“Mr. President is a member of the executive arm of government. He cannot decide what happens in the judiciary, yet he does that.

“Justice is in prison, justice is in jail. That is why everyone is concerned. What happened in the courtroom of Justice Nyako yesterday (Tuesday) tells us that there is massive control of the judiciary by the Presidency and that does not argue well for democracy.

“The judiciary ought to be independent. We cannot have a situation where what the president says is exactly what the judge says. It gives us the impression that there is a grand arrangement in the whole trial.

“If that kind of arrangement exists, we are not going to see justice being done in the adjudication of the case, which is our concern,” he said.
