Sharia Court Sentences Three Men To Death By Stoning In Bauchi

An Islamic court in Bauchi state has sentenced three men to death by stoning for raping two boys, an official said Friday.

Bauchi is among a dozen states in the north where Sharia law is in operation alongside common criminal justice.

The court in the town of Ningi handed down the sentences on the trio on Wednesday, Sharia police or Hisbah official Adamu Dankafi said.

They were accused of raping two boys after drugging them, he said.

Raping minors is punishable by death under Nigeria’s Sharia law, although like most other death sentences it has never been enforced. In this case, the men were charged under a law related to homosexual acts.

“The Upper Sharia Court One in Ningi handed down the death sentence on the three men for committing homosexual acts with two brothers aged 10 and 12,” Dankafi said.

“The three are to be stoned to death as prescribed by the Bauchi state Sharia penal code based on their confessions during interrogation by our men and before the court,” he said.

He said the men were arrested in Gwada village in May following complaints by parents of the two boys who said they had been drugged before the act.

Dankafi said the men aged between 20 and 70, were not represented by a lawyer during the one-day trial, adding that they have one month to appeal the sentence.

Why It’s Compulsory For Women To Get Married, Actress Ruth Eze Makes Shocking Revelation

An actress, Ruth Eze, is of the opinion that for a woman to be truly fulfilled, she has to be married.

“It is compulsory for a woman to get married to be fulfilled. The woman has to have kids that will make her complete. I agree with that saying, especially when it is someone that one loves. When one marries someone that one loves, one will feel very fulfilled and happy” she said in interaction with newsmen.

Expatiating on her post on Instagram that there are monitoring spirits on social media, she said, “I don’t know why (I am being monitored on Instagram). There is so much bitterness and hatred in Nollywood right now. Someone will just start following others with fake accounts and making all sorts of comments on one’s post. That is what I have noticed. When I get to view those fake accounts, I see that there are no pictures or posts there. At times, it could even be one’s colleagues doing that.

“That is why I told my friends not to post everything about their lives online because there are demons, witches and wizards on Instagram.”

The actress also maintained that she is intentional about keeping her private life out of the public glare. She said, “I don’t usually post about my private life or my relationship because it is not necessary. It is good for one to keep a relationship private until it is leading to the altar. All the witches and wizards on Instagram will just destroy the relationship if it is not kept private.

Eze also stated that she is no longer under pressure to get married, unlike what obtained in the past. She said, “I was under pressure to get married then. But since I lost my dad, my mum has understood some things about marriage and (the need to) live one’s life. However, I am in a relationship with someone I love very much and I am enjoying every bit of it.”

She added that through her Ruth Eze Production, she wants to help up-and-coming actors by giving them a platform.

APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu stated in a Facebook post on June 30 that his Christian wife keeps her Bible next to his Qur’an.

The former governor of Lagos observed that neither book fights with the other but coexists amicably.

His words: “In our bedroom, my wife puts her Holy Bible beside my Holy Qur’an, and one thing I discover is that both Books stay with each other peacefully without quarrelling.”

It goes without saying that Tinubu is demonstrating his religious tolerance and his maturity in relation to religious problems with this remark.

2023 Presidency: Atiku’s Rejection Of Wike Tears PDP Apart

2023 Presidency: Atiku’s Rejection Of Wike Tears PDP Apart

One month after the victory of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, the party appears to be on a self-destruction path.

It would be recalled that Atiku emerged as the candidate following the dramatic stepdown of Aminu Tambuwal, a move that angered Governor Nyesom Wike and his allies.

“I just decided that this our party must not be destroyed. I would have left where I was sitting down and say this convention cannot go ahead except you allow me to talk. I would have flattened him,” Wike had said some days after the convention.

Many believed that the post-convention reconciliation would have addressed the fallout from the primary election, but the choice of Vice Presidential running mate has further polarized the party.

Atiku visited Wike at his residence in Abuja on the 30th of May, and promised to work with him closely to deliver the party in 2023.

While the PDP has been hailed to have been the only major political party to have sorted the issue of running mate, however, the choice of Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as running mate seems to be tearing the party apart.

So far, several PDP chieftains have openly challenged the process leading to the choice of Okowa, as many accused Atiku of not keeping to his promise to appoint Wike as running mate.

Although, Governor Wike had publicly said he would not accept to be running mate to anyone. “I’m not coming out to negotiate to be vice to anyone, I’m coming out to contest for the number one position in the country,” he had said.

However, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose and Governor Samuel Ortom have recently claimed that Atiku offered the VP slot to Wike as compensation.

“Wike never said he wanted to be VP, but when Atiku visited him, he was the one who said, ‘I want you to be my VP’. He said that to Wike. If that then changes, is Wike not supposed to be told? Is he not supposed to know?” Fayose had told journalists.

This was also corroborated by Ortom, who questioned the rationale for jettisoning the recommendation of the 17-man committee on the Vice President.

During an interview on Channels TV, Ortom said 14 members of the committee voted in support of Wike, while only three backed Okowa. Adding that he is yet to decide on supporting Atiku, he nonetheless, admonished the PDP presidential candidate to reach out to Wike.

In any case, there are persons within the party that agree with Atiku’s decision not to pick Wike. Former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, had said, “unfortunately, I don’t know if it is his temperament. Sometimes when you speak too much, when you insult your way to power, it does not always happen.”

This is not the first time Atiku will be having challenges over a running mate. Several southeast governors fumed over the choice of Obi in 2018 as running mate to Atiku, who was accused of not consulting widely enough.

David Umahi, who was still in the PDP in 2018, had expressed shock with the choice of Obi as the VP candidate.

“We saw news flying up and down saying that our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has picked a running mate from the zone. We were shocked because we were not consulted,” he said.

The National Chairman confirmed this during the inauguration of the 17-man committee on VP selection.

“Our presidential candidate, this time, has decided to carry everybody along unlike 2019 when he didn’t consult widely in his choice of running mate,” Ayu said.

Amidst all these, Atiku believed not to be in the country despite the off-season elections his party is involved in.

Rumour of Wike, Tinubu’s alliance

The crack is also fueling rumour that Tinubu who is in France and Wike, who is in Turkey, had a covert meeting on a possible alliance.

Joe Igbokwe, an ally of Tinubu had posted the alleged meeting on social media, however, the post was subsequently deleted.

This alleged meeting is coming against the backdrop of the recent overture by Fayose, who has been giving signals of possibly backing Tinubu on the basis of “southern agenda”.

“The current President of Nigeria is a 2-term Northern Presidency, thus implying that it MUST be a Southern Presidency in 2023 or NOTHING. Awa ‘South’ lo kan’. Nigerians should await details soon,” Fayose tweeted.

Basir Madandola, a Chieftain of the PDP told DAILY POST that chances of an alliance between Tinubu and Wike are slim.

“Wike has local politics to play in Rivers State. He has a governorship candidate alongside Senate, Reps and House of Assembly candidates that he has to deliver against APC. Mind you, the APC are hungry. They did not participate in the 2019 elections because of a court verdict.

“The only thing that is possible is that he will not be fully involved, perhaps, he will focus his resources on his State. Will APC drop Rotimi Amaechi and others in the State for him?” he said.

He added that the failure of the party to put the entire house in order could be fatal for the party.

“We have 8 months to go. That is more than enough time for reconciliation. Wike has a significant stake and interest in the party. I don’t think that interest can be well protected in APC.

Uncertainty on Iyorcha Ayu

The National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorcha Ayu, has recently come under fire over the post-election crisis, particularly for the “You are the hero of the convention” comment to Tambuwal after the election.

The comment prompted Edwin Clark to call for Ayu’s resignation.

During an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, Ortom refused to defend his kinsman.

When asked if Ayu has mismanaged the party or is innocent of the issues going on, Ortom did not defend him, instead said, “Well, I won’t talk about mismanagement or innocence, but I will say, it is not too late, things can still be amended.”

Mr Ayu has a long history with Atiku. He was the campaign Director-General of the Atiku 2007 presidential race under the Action Congress of Nigeria.

Over the week, the PDP had to issue a statement debunking “reports” that Ayu had resigned.

Crack threatens Osun election

It would be recalled that DAILY POST had in an analysis on Ekiti Election, explored how the crisis in the PDP led to the embarrassing defeats in Ekiti State, where the party came third behind APC and SDP.

Governor Fayose and the Ekiti PDP were left to their fate.

The crisis is also threatening the party ahead of the Osun State gubernatorial election between Gboyega Oyetola and Demola Adeleke.

During the week, the campaign council of the Osun State governorship election was formed, but only Vice Presidential candidate, Okowa and Governor Darius Isiaku of Taraba were present at the event.

Even the Chairman of the campaign council, Diri Douye was not present at the event.

Gunmen Kidnap DPO In Nasarawa, Demand N5m

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the report of a young mentally-ill lady who stripped herself and barked like a dog in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The state police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said this in a statement on Friday.

He said the command was aware of the report of the yet-to-be-identified lady who might have been diabolically used for money ritual by a suspected internet fraudster otherwise called Yahoo boy.

Oyeyemi said, “The young lady in question was alleged to have been spiritually and diabolically used by a suspected yahoo boy, as a result of which she started barking like a dog.”

The PPRO added that the victim, who was brought to police without any clothes on her, became “very difficult to control because she was acting violently, hence she was kept in the cell.”

Oyeyemi said police had immediately contacted her parents, saying she was taken to a hospital with the help of the police.

He said that “the alleged Yahoo boy was immediately arrested for interrogation,” adding that the case which drew a large crowd to the station was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole.

However, Oyeyemi said the command was surprised and embarrassed to see the video of the victim circulating on social media.

He said, “The height of the embarrassment was the fact that the said video was recorded while the victim, who was then naked and uncontrollable, was in a police cell.

“In view of this, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole has ordered a full scale investigation to unravel the source of the video and how it became a subject of social media discussion.

“It is barbaric, uncivilised and despicable circulating such video on social media as such will in no small measure denigrate the human dignity of the victim which might be another source of psychological trauma for her.

“The command has therefore vowed to deal with whoever is found to be the source of the video and those behind its circulation on social media in the most decisive manner notwithstanding the status of the person.

Applicants,16,000, have applied for the 350 vacant slots in the Ondo State security outfit, codenamed Amotekun. Already, 900 of them have been shortlisted.

The security commander, Chief Àdetunji Adeleye said this in Akure over the weekend.

Adeleye said that the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu ordered the recruitment to strengthen and boost its operations.

He said, “the exercise was transparent with personnel from the Amotekun agency and certified security experts involved in the process. With the recruitment of the new Amotekun corps, the spate of insecurity will be reduced to the barest minimum; criminal-minded elements should steer clear of the state or face their waterloo.”

According to him, the newly recruited personnel will be posted to strategic places across the state to work in collaboration with conventional security agencies.

Adeleye commended the governor for his commitment towards the provision of necessary logistics and moral support to ensure the effective take-off of the security networks. He said that successful applicants will soon be invited for training.

On those disqualified, the commander explained that “majority of the applicants were screened out on age grounds, physical fitness and experience.

Adeleye, therefore, urged them to resume at the camp within the stipulated period, warning that there would be no further registration in 2022. He said only successful candidates whose names appear on the Corps website are to resume at the training camp. The commander advised the applicants to visit the Corps’ website for further details.

He said if not for Lagos, he would have been chasing lizards in Aba, in Abia State, as a practicing native doctor.

Igbokwe stated this on Friday in a post on his Facebook page.

The All Progressives Congress chieftain noted that Lagos is a state where dreams are actualised.

He wrote, “LAGOS, If not for Lagos, somebody like me, will be in Aba chasing lizards to use as a native doctor. LAGOS….

“You come to Lagos with a nylon bag and go back to Ibo land with Rolls Royce.

Igbokwe’s remarks on Lagos was coming barely 48 hours after he hinted that the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has visited the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in France.

Tinubu had on Monday, left the country for France.

Igbokwe, who is a former spokesperson for APC in Lagos wrote, “While they are on social media abusing everybody, Governor Wike goes to France to meet Asiwaju.

“Abuse, calling names, hate, and bigotry are no strategy. They hated and abused PMB (President Muhammadu Buhari) since 2015 and now they have transferred the aggression to Asiwaju. We wait and see.”

Declaring his “deep respect” for the Muslim faith, the former Governor of Anambra State wrote on his Twitter handled that the mats were not from his campaign team.

“The inclusion of my picture on the praying mat by a support group was misguided, even with the best of intentions,” he tweeted on Friday.

Former presidential spokesperson, Dr Doyin Okupe, has faulted those claiming that the Labour Party has no structure to win a presidential election.

In a tweet on Friday, Okupe predicted that the LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would win the 2023 election.

Okupe, whose name was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission as Obi’s running mate, noted that “those mocking us will weep when Obi wins the presidential election”.

He said, “Many who deride and mock us that we have no structure will weep and gnash their teeth when Obi is elected President in 2023.

“These folks underestimate the power of a youthful population who have resolved irrevocably to take their country back and also the network of the Nigeria Labour Congress and its affiliates. لعبة بلاك جاك مجانية

This came hours after a former Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, told Obi that the time is not ripe for him to be the president of Nigeria.

Melaye, who made the appeal in a video on his verified Facebook page on Friday, asked Obi to wait for his time.
