Bola Tinubu

Strong indications emerged, weekend, that governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, are insisting on a sitting colleague to be picked as vice presidential candidate to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2023 election, following the role they played in his emergence as the flagbearer.

The governors are also reportedly pushing for Tinubu’s running mate to come from the North-East, particularly from Borno State, and that if on the other hand, it goes to the North-West, it should not be Katsina State.

They were said to have contended that since Katsina produced late President Umaru Yar’Adua and incumbent, President Muhammadu Buhari, it shouldn’t be considered.

It was also learned that another group in the Progressives Governors camp is pushing for the North-West geo-political zone to produce the vice presidential candidate, while looking in the direction of Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State; Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, and Governor Atiku Abubakar of Kebbi State.

However, the problem at the moment is that Tinubu is said to be insisting on Senator Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno State.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday urged the Church to continue to pray for the peace and unity of Nigeria ahead of the 2023 general election.

Speaking at the re-dedication of the remodeled Methodist Cathedral of Unity in Abuja, Osinbajo, said that with God, the country would achieve victory over those he described as the “troublers” of the nation.

Singing a song titled, ‘We are grateful, oh Lord’, the vice president noted that the remodeled church building would aid the act of worship and strengthen the bond of brotherhood among the faithful.

“We have to pray for leaders of the country that God will give us victory over the troublers of this country. The forces of evil and hate are more vehemently than ever. The battle between light and darkness is more intense than ever, but we will prevail,” Osinbajo, who was represented by Mr. Femi Odumosu, said.

Also speaking at the occasion, former president Goodluck Jonathan said the current state of affairs in the nation does not give room for the blame game, urging the church to constantly stand in the place of prayer for Nigeria.

“We need to connect our faith back to God. I want to encourage everyone of us to pray, because the time to blame is not there, but we need to do the needful.

“I want to encourage everyone to pray for this country. We must agree as a nation and as a people that we should continue to work together as one. God will see us through.”

Labour Party Has

Ahead of the 2023 elections, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has charged the ‘Obidient’ movement supporters to be tolerant of dissenting views and divergent opinions.

There have been complaints on how Obi supporters attack those whom they perceived to be critical of the Presidential Candidate.

The latest of such incident happened last week when Pastor Poju Oyemade of the Covenant Christian Centre was “bullied” to pull down a tweet said to be against Obi.

Oyemade in now deleted tweets, had said youths must not waste their enthusiasm on a “poorly planned project”.

Although he did not mention the name of Obi, the Presidential Candidate’s supporters attacked him until the tweets were taken down.

In a tweet on Sunday, Obi appealed to his supporters to learn from views different from theirs.

The former governor of Anambra State said while “the frustration and anger in the country” could be responsible for such conduct on the part of his followers, their energy should be channeled positively.

“I sincerely thank my supporters for believing in me and my commitment to building a united, secure and well-functioning Nigeria. However, I appeal once more that we should be tolerant of other people’s views, dissent and divergent opinions & possibly learn from them.”

“While the frustration and anger in the country (are) understandable, we must strive to channel that energy positively in ways that will earn the support and collaboration of others.

“Even as our message continues to gain broad acceptance, there are some we still need to work to convince. In expressing ourselves, we should do so with grace so as not to precipitately shut doors to future collaborations on sustainable nation-building. -PO,” he tweeted.

Obi joined the Labour party after he pulled out of the Presidential Primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in May.

He has since been gaining popularity, especially among young people.

Abia Guber: No Compromise On Candidacy Of Uche Ogah, We'll Sack Failed PDP Govt — APC Faction

A faction of All Progressives Congress APC in Abia State loyal to the former chairman, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa has said it is not ready to shift ground on the governorship candidacy of the former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uche Ogah.

It insists that it is not ready to reach any truce with the Dr. Ononogbu faction which has Ikechi Emenike as its governorship candidate.

Addressing newsmen in Umuahia on Saturday after a meeting, the secretary of the faction, Barr. Perfect Okorie while insisting that the faction is the only recognised APC leadership in the state, stressed that its direct mode of primary election which took place May 26 and produce Dr. Uche Ogah as the party’s governorship flagbearer was a directive of the APC national leadership.

He listed Osun, Benue and Abia as states were direct mode of primary was approved by the Sen. Adamu Mohammed led APC National Working Committee.

Barr. Okorie therefore expressed the resolve of the party to sack the ‘failed’ PDP government in Abia State come 2023.

He boasted most of the founding members of APC as a party are on the side of his faction of the party, including top political office holders in the state.

He said the alleged harmonisation with the Ononogbu faction which took place in Ntalakwu is a mere ruse that cannot stand, maintaining that it is not ready to negotiate with the faction in future regarding the candidacy of Uche Ogah.

Whatever took place there is a nullity, is a sham and has not effect,” he added.

Some of the leaders who spoke, including a representative of former speaker of Abia State House of Assembly and a founding member of APC, Rt. Hon. Stanley Ohajuruka said Abia APC is one and ready to take over governance of the state in 2023.
