Lagos Government Shuts Redeemers School Over Drowning Of Pupil

The Lagos State Ministry of Education on Monday evening said it has shut the Redeemers Nursery and Primary School, Ogba.

ABN TV reports that the government said the school will remain closed, pending an administrative investigation of its operations and procedures as well as the conduct of its officials – in line with schools’ safety standards and guidelines.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, the Commissioner for Education in the state.

The investigation is sequel to the recent death of Chidera Eze, a five-year-old pupil, who is suspected to have drowned during a swimming lesson while in the custody of the school. The police are investigating the matter.

“A preliminary probe by the Office of Education Quality Assurance of the Ministry has shown that the Redeemers Nursery and Primary School, Ogba, is yet to conclude its registration and is, therefore, not yet an approved school.

“The Ministry is concerned about the safety of the pupils, hence the need for intervention. The school will remain closed until all the required approval processes are concluded. Parents are advised to note the closure and wait for the conclusion of the administrative investigation,” the Lagos government said.

This, according to NECO’s Head of Information and Public Relations Division, Mr. Azeez Sani in a statement in Minna, is contrary to insinuations in some quarters that the council has scheduled examination for 9th July, 2022, which is Sallah Day (Eid-Adha).

“Conscious of the importance of religious festivals, the Council has always made adequate provision for such in fixing examination dates”.

Lady Emana Chosen As PDP Settles For Female Running Mate In Cross River

Thirty years after having a female Deputy Governor, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has unveiled a former Channels TV broadcaster, Lady Emana Duke Ambrose-Amawhe, as running mate to Prof. Sandy Ojang Onor, gubernatorial candidate of the party for next year’s election.

She was unveiled at the party secretariat in Calabar on Monday amid fanfare.

Last week, youths from Akpabuyo, Bakassi, and Calabar South LG councils stormed the party secretariat, protesting the choice of Emana because she was relatively unknown in the political arrangements in the state.

Chairman of the party, Venatius Ikem said it was a herculean task to arrive at Emana because there was a galaxy of well-qualified gladiators for the position.

He said her choice is divine and that they consulted widely, adding that the party needed new and younger faces, especially from the women folk.

“The choice of Emana was one of the landmarks feats in my 10-month leadership of PDP in the state. I must be grateful to God for giving us as the running mate. It was the same feat when we successfully and admirably produced the governorship candidate in Senator Sandy Onor,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the PDP governorship hopeful, Sandy Onor who represents Cross River Central in the Senate, said they resolved to give women and the youths the slot as they are a major force in the party.

“We are broad-minded in PDP, giving everyone room, and always thinking of ways to make Cross River better.

“We needed a double-barrelled person, a young woman that can appeal to the women and the youths. Since Cecilia Ekpenyong in 1992, we have not carried women along.

“We need a loaded woman like Emana, deep, intellectual, exposed, bold with royal blood from Efik and Qua kingdoms, a media guru that can serve with us to change Cross River State.”

Accepting the challenge, Emana said many battles have been fought and won, adding that settling for a woman as PDP running mate in Cross River is a weighty statement.

“For Cross River to have a female running mate is a victory already for the party. You have given me this task in trust. It is a big challenge. I boldly accept it,” she said.

FG To Recruit 1M Nigerians For 2023 Census – NPC

We’ll conduct all-inclusive census – National Population Commission

The National Population Commission (NPC), has disclosed that the Federal Government will recruit a total of one million Nigerians for the conduct of the 2023 National Census.

The agency also assured that a reliable technological innovation had been advanced by the NPC for the conduct of the exercise to prevent politicians and interested elites from hijacking or manipulating the process.

The Commissioner representing Ekiti at the NPC, Mr. Deji Ajayi, said this in Ado Ekiti, on Monday, at a press conference heralding the trial census to be conducted in Ekiti preparatory to next year’s main census exercise.

The former Ekiti State Head of Service added that nine towns across nine local governments selected out of the 16 councils in the state had been delineated into Enumerated Areas(EAs) to ease the trial census.

The retired Permanent Secretary said areas to be enumerated in the trial census in Ekiti include: Ado, Emure, Iro, Ijero, Ikole, Iworoko, Ise, Ikun, and Omuo Ekiti.

Ajayi said: “This is the first time we will be doing a paperless census, everything will be digital to check corruption and bring about accurate data that can help national development.

“Census is a massive operation that will engage one million personnel and managing such a huge workforce manually will raise huge logistical and documentation challenges.

“It is in recognition of this fact that the NPC resolved that recruitment for the 2023 census will be done electronically. This trial census will provide opportunity to test the feasibility of e-recruitment.”

Reeling out the significance of census to nation-building, Ajayi said population statistics would be used by private organisations to plan for the recruitment of young Nigerians by knowing the number of the active population.

“The government will also use such statistics to plan for our youth, students and the health needs of Nigerians. They will also know the number of gerontocrats, who should be catered for,” he said.

Assuring that the exercise will be difficult to manipulate, the NPC boss said: “Technology is open to manipulation, but NPC has gone a step higher by having an updated technology innovation that can prevent multiple registrations.

“The biometric technology will capture your face and fingerprints and goes to the server and any similar information supplied will be noticed and expunged from the data immediately.

“This time, no person, who is not seen will register as a Nigerian. We have put everything in place to ensure that this exercise will neither be hijacked nor politicised.

“The commission has intensified preparatory activities deploying technological innovation on a massive scale to conduct a truly scientific census that will not only be accurate and reliable but also transparent to all Nigerians.”

“We have also brought in some eggheads from our universities and retired experts from the civil service to train our workers for better efficiency”, he stated.

Eriksen has been weighing up offers from United and Brentford – where he spent the second half of last season.

But the former Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan star has decided to sign for United until 2025. كيف تلعب لعبة البوكر

It continues a remarkable comeback for the 30-year-old playmaker who suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch playing for Denmark at the European Championships just 13 months ago.

He must, however, first go through significant medical tests at Old Trafford before the deal is finalized. ترتيب البوكر

Eriksen scored one and assisted four in 11 games during the second half of last season at Brentford.

The Bees held ‘positive talks’ with Eriksen at the end of last month and were hopeful to lure the playmaker back to west London.

However, Eriksen’s decision to join United is a huge boost for new boss Erik ten Hag, who is still waiting to make his first signing at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were handed a shock on Saturday as star striker Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his desire to exit Old Trafford.

Amid doubts over his future, Ronaldo was absent in his first day of pre-season under Ten Hag on Monday due to family reasons, with United accepting the explanation for his absence.

Ronaldo, who has played 19 consecutive seasons in the Champions League, is keen to extend his streak to 20 and join a new club in Europe’s top competition.

The 37-year-old has also grown frustrated by the Red Devils’ lack of transfer activity so far in the summer window, watching Manchester City, Liverpool, and Spurs continue to bolster their squads ahead of next season. 1xbet arabic
