Igbos Will Not Vote For You If… Ohanaeze Tells Atiku
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, has threatened to vote against the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar if he drops Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.

There are speculations that Atiku is under massive pressure from governors to drop Okowa and replace him with his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike.

Wike’s loyalists are also said to be making the same demand as the only way to make room for peace in the party.

However, in a statement signed by the National President of OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, and the Secretary, Comrade Obinna Achionye on Tuesday, they said dropping Okowa will portend serious danger for the actualization of Atiku’s presidency.

The apex Igbo organization said the South-East would not accept losing out completely in the scheme of things, having lost the opportunity to produce the presidential candidate of either the PDP or the All Progressives Congress, APC.

“There is no need to repeat that we expected both the PDP and the APC to zone their presidential tickets to the South-East, but that did not happen.

“Though this has been overtaken by events, the only consolation we have is the choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, considering that Okowa is a true Igbo son.

“Having said this, how could anyone wake up and think of replacing Okowa with Wike? As much as we know that Atiku reserves the right to choose whoever he wills as his running mate, we also have the right to vote according to our desire.

“And that desire is clear- that the PDP would not get one vote from Igbo land should they field Wike because this is a man who disowned Ndigbo. He said he is not one of us and this is payback time, we also do not know him. Should the PDP make the mistake of pairing him with Atiku, the PDP will be roundly rejected during the presidential election,” the Ohanaeze youths warned.

The OYC added that “with the new Electoral Act, those who constituted themselves into emperors are going to be disgraced during the polls. The time for bogus fake results is over, so nobody should be deceived.”

Hilda Magaia added the second with a finish two minutes later.

Rasheedat Ajibade reduced the deficit with an incredible finish in the 92nd minute.

“Despite the loss, we are still positive in camp. It is obviously the first game of the tournament so we have to go back and regroup,” Waldrum was quoted by CAFonline.

“We have to increase our urgency in the fighting spirit because we are encouraged by it. We have to play the way we played in the last 10-15 minutes so that we get going.”

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has revealed why he is against the removal of petrol subsidy in Nigeria

Lai Mohammed, said the removal of petrol subsidy in the country may lead to instability.

He made this known during an interview with Reuters on Monday July 4, also said that many countries have introduced measures to help citizens cope with high oil energy prices due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

He said;

“When you consider the chaos, the social disharmony and … instability such an action (of abolishing subsidies) would facilitate, is it worth it? I don’t think so.”

Also speaking on oil theft in the country, Mohammed said there are concerns about the culpability of the nation’s security agencies. He also said that barges of oil cannot be stolen and moved on the coastal waters without the collaboration of some powerful stakeholders.

Mohammed also alleged that the new petroleum industry law that allocates money to oil-producing communities would stop attacks. He further blamed the European Union’s climate change policies for stifling investment in the sector. شرح موقع bet365

The Federal Government has restated its appeal to states to cooperate in ensuring that herders embrace ranching in ending the perennial farmers-herdsmen clashes.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, restated the appeal in London during his engagements with some international media houses.

NAN reports the minister is in London to engage the international media and tink-tank on the progress the administration is making in various endeavours.

Speaking on the outcome of his respective engagements with Reuters, The Economist and Times of London, the minister said issues on security, economy, fighting corruption, and the power sector took the centre stage.

Mohammed said the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration had been able to find workable solutions to the perennial farmers-herdsmen conflicts worsened by climate change, forest desertification and demographic growth.

“Our solutions which can be found in National Livestock Transformation Plan have ranching at its core.

“All we are asking for is for states to cooperate more with the federal government to ensure that ranching takes place in their states.

“Evidence has shown that in the states where ranching has been put in place, have less conflicts than the others,” he said.

Still on security, the minister told the media houses that the government is leaving no stone unturned to address the challenges and the efforts were yielding results.

“The success of our gallant military has resulted in about 51,000 insurgents surrendering between January and March this year alone.

“We have also been able to reintegrate about 1600 former fighters who had been able to learn one trade or the other,” he said.

The Federal Government says the British authority has taken care of its looted artefacts for so long and it is time for the cultural and historical works of art to return home.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stated this in London during a working visit to the British Museum.

Speaking after a meeting with officials of the museum, Mohammed, who was taken round the gallery and strong room, thanked them for their passion and for taking care of the artefacts for so long.

NAN reports the minister met with Sam Nixon, Curator, and Head of Africa Section, British Museum, and Lissan Bolton, Keeper of the Department of Africa, Oceania and the Americas in the Museum.

“Before now, they said we did not make a demand, but in October last year, almost nine months ago we made a formal request for the return of the artefacts, especially the Benin bronzes for which we have not got any response.

“We made them understand that our quest and clamour is for the return of the Benin bronzes and all other artefacts that were stolen and looted to their origin.

“I said they should take a cue from Germany which was neither our coloniser nor the one that looted the artefacts but which has yielded to pressure and signed an agreement to return 1,130 Benin bronzes to us.

“We also made it clear to them that they cannot hide under legislation and no Act of Parliament will make what you have stolen become yours,” he said

A 25-year-old suspected kidnapper from Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe State has been nabbed by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for an alleged attempt to kidnap a 70-year-old Usman Mohammed in Koburga, a border town between Billiri and Kaltungo Local Government Area.

Our correspondent reports that Lawal inflicted varying degrees of injuries on the victim around the ear and shoulder regions.

Parading the suspect on Tuesday, State Commandant Waziri Goni described the suspect Lawal as a serial kidnapper that gave security agencies difficult times in the past, adding that he had caused havoc with his gang.

Goni revealed that the corps succeeded in quelling the attack through the collaboration of residents, urging them not to relent in providing accurate information that would make the state more peaceful.

According to the Commandant, Lawal operated around Shongom, Billiri, and Kaltungo. He apprehended people for ransom and killing. God is kind that with relevant information, our officers went there and at the end of the day, he was apprehended with one pistol, cutlass, and other weapons. They cut Mohammed with a cutlass and shot at him, but by God’s grace, it didn’t penetrate.

“The remaining members of the gangs, about four others, ran away with their AK-47s and some other rifles. They are the notorious gang that roams about in the Gombe metropolis, they gave headaches to security agencies. Thank God we have one of them and about six others in prison and the other four, by God’s grace, we will get them,” he said.

Goni added that kidnapping had turned into a disaster waiting to consume the populace, adding that with synergy sanity would be restored.

“The operation became successful due to my officer’s intelligence report and the collaboration from residents. Thank God they (residents) have realised their roles, they called us. Intelligence agencies across the world become successful because of information, we have security at nooks and crannies but they are to call us ours is enforcement,” Goni said.

He added that the command would commence legal prosecution of the suspect immediately, noting that efforts were on to complete the legal processes.

Narrating his ordeal, the victim, Mohammed, told journalists how the attackers invaded his home located in Koburga by 1 am, adding that he was shot at but the bullet didn’t cause him harm.

He said, “I was fast asleep around 1 am when the suspect entered with his gun and other weapons. He shot but didn’t get me, but he used the cutlass to cut my ear and my shoulder. It was then my child of 33 years heard the sound and came to find out what happened only to realise a strange person in our house, and then, a fight ensued.”

Responding to why the bullet didn’t penetrate, Mohammed ascribed it to the power of God, adding, “there was nothing, it was just the will of God that when the suspect shot, he didn’t get him, not that I have charms or anything.”
