The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Thursday, reacted to the invasion of the correctional facility in the Kuje area of Abuja by terrorists.

IPOB alleged that the attack was a plot by terrorists to eliminate members of the group incarcerated in the facility.

Gunmen believed to be Boko Haram members had invaded the Kuje prison on Tuesday with explosives.

The terrorists had released all their members incarcerated in the facility.

Reacting to the attack, IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, warned that nothing must happen to members of the group incarcerated at the facility.

Powerful warned that IPOB would not take it easy with the Nigerian Government if anything happens to members of the group incarcerated in the Kuje facility.

A statement by Powerful reads partly: “We the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to draw the world’s attention to the Nigeria Government and its security agencies, especially the Army and DSS agents’ instruction to the bandits rampaging the North to attack the Kuje correctional centre in Abuja.

“The Nigeria security agencies, especially the military and DSS agents in a covert action detailing a systematic strategy to eliminate IPOB members detained in Kuje prison and yesterday’s attack has confirmed our earlier intel.

“We want to let the world know that IPOB members were profiled and detained in Kuje prison yards for simply being persons indigenous to Biafra and of Igbo race.

“We have their details and want them alive because if anything untoward happens to our comrades who are detained in Kuje, IPOB will never take it easy with Nigeria Government and her security agencies.

“It is high time to release these innocent folks who were detained illegally and unjustly, Nigeria cannot continue to detain them indefinitely while allowing terrorists and bandits to come and slaughter them under disguised arrangements by the Buhari-Fulani administration.”

President Muhammadu Buhari says he is disappointed with the intelligence system and utilisation at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje in Abuja.

He said this on Wednesday while speaking to journalists during his visit to the correctional facility which came under attack by terrorists last night.

“I am disappointed with the intelligence system,” President Buhari was quoted as saying in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu. “How can terrorists organise, have weapons, attack a security installation and get away with it?”

Soon after he arrived at the facility, the President was briefed about the attack by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore, and the Controller General of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Haliru Nababa.

Both men showed President Buhari the bombed-out section and the records office, which was set on fire, adding that the invaders thereafter launched an attack on all cells in which Boko Haram terrorists were held.

He was also apprised that, at the end of the attack, none of the 63 terrorists were accounted for, but the records were not lost because they had been backed up.

The President was also informed that the security forces have recaptured 350 of the escapees while about 450 others were still unaccounted for, and that rapid work was underway to recapture them.

According to Shehu, President Buhari, like most Nigerians, was shocked by both the scale and audacity of the attack.

“How did the defences at the prison fail to prevent the attack?” the President queried. “How many inmates were in the facility? How many of them can you account for?

“How many personnel did you have on duty? How many of them were armed? Were there guards on the watchtower? What did they do? Does the CCTV work?”

The President, accompanied by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and his Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, said he was expecting “a comprehensive report” on the incident at the end of the visit.

Boris Johnson, UK prime minister, will resign on Thursday following pressure from members of his government.

A number of ministers had resigned from the government, citing a loss of trust in Johnson.

The resignations followed the latest scandal to engulf Johnson’s government — his handling of the concerns raised over Chris Pincher, deputy chief whip, over allegations of sexual misconduct.

Will Quince, minister for children and families; Robin Walker, minister of state for school standards, and John Glen, treasury minister, resigned their positions on Wednesday. الربح الحقيقي

On Tuesday, Sajid Javid, UK secretary of state for health and social care, and Rishi Sunak, UK treasury chief, resigned from the cabinet.

Earlier in the year, Johnson appointed Pincher — who has now resigned over claims that he groped two men at a private members’ club  — as the deputy chief whip, despite the allegations.

Although Johnson had apologised for backing Pincher, he vowed to fight on.

“The job of a prime minister in difficult circumstances, when he has been handed a colossal mandate, is to keep going, and that’s what I’m going to do,” he had said.

Several UK cabinet ministers reportedly gathered on Wednesday at the office of the prime minister to ask him to resign.

The delegation included Grant Shapps, transport secretary; Simon Hart, Welsh secretary; Brandon Lewis, Northern Ireland secretary; and Chris Heaton-Harris, chief whip. 1xbet عربي

The Nigeria Tobacco Control Alliance has urged the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC to prohibit smoking in the upcoming Big Brother Naija Season 7.

The group said tobacco advertising had persisted in Nigerian movies and digital spaces, despite the ban placed by the National Tobacco Control Act, 2015.

In a press statement signed by its Programme Officer, Chubuike Nwokorie on Wednesday, the group also urged the Federal Government and all stakeholders to intensify enforcement of the ban on tobacco advertising, promotion, and sponsorship in the country.

The statement partly read, “One of the most notorious violators of the TAPS ban is Smoke Box NG, a tobacco vendor that advertises tobacco products on social media with impunity.

“In 2021, Big Brother Naija, a popular reality TV show, hosted on the GOTV and DSTV platforms, sparked public outrage when its participants flagrantly smoked on live TV.

“This depiction of smoking as glamorous challenged the provisions of the NTC Act, 2015 on on-screen smoking. It also threatened the gains made on the ban on TAPS in Nigeria. When it happened, the tobacco control community called on the National Broadcasting Commission to act immediately.

“This year, as the programme is about to begin its 7th season, we are drawing the attention of NBC to proactively engage the organisers of the show to ensure that there is no repeat of last year’s violations.

“We wish to make it clear that should there be reluctance on the part of the regulators or the organisers to ensure a smoke-free programme, we will explore every available option in the interest of public health. It is important to note that entertainment products set the agenda for many young people because they are the eyes through which they see the world.

“We sound a note of caution to the organisers of BBN and a reminder of their responsibility towards the Nigerian population.

“At this time when Nigerians are hungry for quality leadership, a programme with such national reach must be used to portray high-standing role models for the Nigerian people.

“The National Film and Video Censors Board must live up to its responsibility of ensuring that all videos made and consumed in Nigeria strictly abide by the provisions of the NTC Act as it applies to the regulation of on-screen smoking and must see to the inclusion of text warnings or outright removal of needless on-screen smoking depictions.

“The National Communications Commission and the National Information Technology Development Agency must monitor, and sanction violators of the TAPS ban in the digital space.

“Finally, we charge all agencies of government tasked with the responsibility of enforcing the NTC Act and its Regulations to work together and ensure that the ban on direct and indirect tobacco advertising promotion and sponsorship is comprehensively implemented in Nigeria in line with Article 13 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.”

Lagos Sacks Judge Who Dissolved Marriage, Impregnated Complainant’s Wife

The Lagos State Government on Monday says it has fired a customary court judge, Mr Ishola Razaki Adeyemi, who allegedly dissolved a marriage between a couple and impregnated the wife of the complainant, Olayemi Ayeni.

Ayeni in a now-viral video was seen recounting his tumultuous ordeal in the hands of Adeyemi, whom he claimed made his life a living hell.

“I had an issue with my wife, she moved out of the house, she rented an apartment very close to my house. I put five million naira into her business to establish a school, Greatest Kiddies Foundation. So, the success of the business caused a problem in the family, I could not control her again,” he had said in the video.

So after 10 months, I took her to court, thinking that I’d able to resolve this matter through Alternative Dispute Resolution. The judge, Dr Ishola Azakiq Adeyeni, hurriedly dissolved my marriage and got that woman impregnated three months after the dissolution of the marriage.

The woman, she’s now carrying nine months pregnancy for that man. What really pained me is that in the ruling, this man denied me access to my children. That I can only see the children at the school premises once a week. The same children now are under his custody; he took over the business I established for that woman. He denied me access from having access to my children, he impregnated the woman now and he still wants to send me to jail.”

According to the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Titilola Vivour Adeniyi, the findings of the investigation subsequently led to the termination of the appointment of the judge.
