Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria Thursday flagged off the free distribution of the Cocoa GAP Handbook in Abia State.

Speaking during the event, the CFAN National President, Comrade Adeola Adegoke, said the farmers’ focus was to increase Nigerian cocoa productivity and production.

Other targets, he said, were quality assurance, child labour eradication, and fighting deforestation among others.

Adegoke who spoke through his National Secretary, High Chief Ngbeyak Leku said the handbook “will mark Nigeria’s path to achieve 100 per cent premium cocoa production with 500,000 metric tons and sustainable practices in the cocoa supply chain in the year 2024 and the highest cocoa producer by 2027”.

He added, “This we have started by providing 12,500 seedlings to Abia State cocoa farmers free of charge”.

“The synergy we got here has not been seen in other 10 states CFAN operates. I hope Ikpeazu will sustain it”, he concluded.

Speaking at the event, the state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, assured CFAN of steady partnership, saying “as a government that appreciates the importance of agriculture, we cherish the formation of cocoa farmers”.

Represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Sir Don Ubani, Ikpeazu said he was following the track record of the late Premier of Eastern Nigeria, Michael Okpara, in agriculture and was making much input in the sector.

Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Ikechi Mgbeoji, who was represented by his Permanent Secretary, Chief Okey Ihedioha, said his ministry was poised and properly positioned to collaborate with cocoa farmers to get the best yield.

In his remarks, the Cocoa Desk Officer/Abia State Cocoa Transformation Committee, Dr. Ojo Uma Ojo, said the exercise involves the flag-off of new hybrid of cocoa which will enable the farmers to stop using and recycling the old cocoa varieties in their farms.

The state coordinator, CFAN Sir John Kalu, was the chairman of the occasion.

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, on Thursday, said Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, must be sacked with immediate effect over his consistent failure to stop attacks on prisons in the country.

HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, in a statement, said it is distasteful and condemnable that over 15 jailbreaks have occurred under Aregbesola in the last five years while over 3,000 inmates have escaped.

The group also urged the President, Muhammadu Buhari, to stop asking rhetorical questions on social media on how the intelligence system of the country failed to detect Tuesday’s attack at Kuje prison in Abuja.

HURIWA said the President should immediately set up a judicial panel of inquiry on prison breaks in Nigeria and ensure that such assaults on the entire security apparatus of Nigeria do not recur.

Recall that terrorists attack the Kuje Correctional Centre on Tuesday evening, bombed the prison, and killed some security agents and inmates while they set over 600 prisoners free including 64 Boko Haram suspects.

According to media reports, soldiers deployed to Kuje vicinity and the Correctional Center’s environment, who had mastered the terrain, were redeployed 24 hours before the dastard attack.

In fact, Tukur Mamu, a media aide to controversial Islamic cleric and bandit-sympathiser and negotiator, Ahmad Gumi, said the Kuje prison attackers were members of the Ansaru terrorist group who launched an attack and kidnapped scores of passengers in Abuja-Kaduna bound train on March 28. bet365 sports

Reacting, HURIWA’s Onwubiko said, “The spate of jailbreaks under President Muhammadu Buhari and Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, is alarming and condemnable. Even under then-President Goodluck Jonathan who had no military experience or background, jailbreaks weren’t as rampant as what Nigerians see these days. بينجو لعبة

“The frequent and recurring jailbreaks show the inefficiency of all those President Buhari appointed into office and his unwillingness to sack them show also that the President tacitly wants the situation to continue to fester. موقع لربح المال

“HURIWA demands the arrest of the persons who gave the order purportedly for the withdrawal of soldiers before the attack.”

The group also demands the sacking of “the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; and his Defence counterpart, Bashir Magashi; for perpetual incompetence. We also call for a broad-based judicial panel of inquiry on prison breaks in Nigeria to be constituted.”

The Parish Priest of Holy Ghost Parish, Eke-Olengbeche, Reverend Father Peter Amodu was Tuesday evening reportedly kidnapped by unknown armed men along Otukpo – Ugbokolo road, Okpokwu Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state.

It was gathered that Father Amodu who is a Priest of the Holy Ghost Congregation in the Catholic Dioceses of Otukpo was waylaid and taken away by his abductors while on his way to celebrate the Holy Mass at Okwungaga, Ugbokolo in Okpokwu LGA.

The abduction of the Priest is coming on the heels of similar incidents on that axis of the state where commuters and local farmers had in the last few weeks fallen victim to the armed men who were said to have taken over the forests along the Ogbadibo and Okpokwu LGAs of the state.

The kidnap of the cleric was confirmed by the Diocese of Otukpo in a statement issued Thursday by the Diocesan Chancellor, Reverend Father Joseph Aboyi Itodo.

Part of the statement read, “we write to notify you of the kidnap of Reverend Father Peter Amodu, a priest of the Holy Ghost Congregation who is working in the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo as Parish Priest of Holy Ghost Parish, Eke-Olengbeche.

“The sad incident occurred July 6, 2022 at about 5pm along Otukpo – Ugbokolo Road, Benue State, while he was on his way to celebrate the Holy Mass at Okwungaga-Ugbokolo.

“The Local Ordinary, Most Rev. Michael Ekwoyi Apochi, has called on all Christ’s Faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo and beyond to earnestly pray for his quick and safe release as we intensify efforts to ensure his release.

“We commend our brother and all those in the kidnappers’ den to the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary for their speedy and safe release from the hands of their abductors.”

In his reaction, the Director of Communications Otukpo Dioceses. Reverend Father John Okpotu said the abductors had not opened discussions with the church and the family of the Priest.

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, Catherine Anene said she was yet to get details of the incident.

Security sources in Abuja have disclosed that Taraba State Kidnapping Kingpin and Gunrunner, Hamisu Wadume who was arrested and detained in connection with the killing of 3 Police IRT operatives in a Special Operation led by DCP Abba Kyari, is among the inmates who escaped during Tuesday night’d attack on Kuje prison by terrorists.

It was gathered that Wadume, who has been in custody at Kuje prison since 2020, has not been found and was not among prisoners recaptured or those who voluntarily returned after the attack on the Kune Prison facility.

Hamisu Wadume, was arrested by IRT operatives in Takum, Taraba for terrorizing people of the state with his criminal activities.

But the IRT operatives came under heavy firing by soldiers of 93 Battalion, Takum, in Taraba state, killing three police officers and one civilian staff in the process on the grounds that they were not properly identifiable and their vehicle had nothing to show they were policemen.

The soldiers who also rescued Wadume, from the IRT operatives were said to have carried out the operations on the orders of their Commanding Officer.

After his rescue by the soldiers Wadume took to his heels and escaped from Taraba state, eliciting public outrage.

He was later rearrested by the IRT operatives at Kano and brought to Abuja, and charged to court, where he was remanded in prison custody.

The Federal High Court, Abuja has disqualified the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta, Sheriff Oborevwori, from contesting the 2023 election.

Delivering judgment on Thursday in a suit filed by Mr Olorogun Edevbie, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, held that Oborevwori lacked the legal competence to participate in the election.

Edevbie had approached the court following his grievance with the process that produced Oborevwori as the party’s governorship candidate.

It was his contention that the defendant was not validly nominated by his party.

He also held the PDP violated both its constitution and the electoral guidelines, during its state congress that produced Oborevwori as its flag bearer for the governorship election.

He prayed the court to restrain the party from forwarding Oborevwori’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The aggrieved party member also asked the court to restrain INEC from receiving or recognising Oborevwori as the duly nominated candidate of the party for the election.

The plaintiff also sought an order to restrain Oborevwori from parading or carrying himself as the governorship candidate of the PDP in the state.

The judge held that the suit had merits and accordingly granted the reliefs sought by Edevbie against Oborevwori. (NAN)

Odumeje's Church Not Demolished, It's Fake Rumour - Official [VIDEO]

The General Overseer of Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, better known as Odumeje has said contrary to media reports that his church was on Thursday pulled down by the state government, there is no truth in such rumour.

He described as fake rumour the alleged demolition if his church building located along Bida by Creek Road Fegge Onitsha, Anambra State.

In a Facebook post on the church Facebook page, Odumeje said it was only a part of the security post and store building that were affected in the demolition exercise carried out by the Anambra State government.

He said, “Lion Family No Fear: Prophet Odumeje’s Church was never Demolished. Only the Securty/Store bulding beside the Drainage System. What shall it Profit you to be spreading Fake Rumours.”

ABN TV recalls that a few days after the assumption of office, Governor of the state, Chukwuma Soludo, told the authorities of the church to remove part of the building, (not the main Church building) which he said is an obstruction to free flow of flood into the River Niger.

However, on Thursday, the Anambra State Task Force invaded the area and demolished the security house of the Church, the structure said to be inhibiting the free flow of flood from Sakamori drainage into River Niger.

Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, Onitsha, also known as “Land of Freedom,” has been tagged, “illegal building” by successive governments in the State and earlier marked for demolishing for allegedly encroaching on a the wide Sakamori drainage canal.

ABN TV gathered that when members of the state task force stormed the location on Thursday to enforce the demolition, there was a face-off between them and Prophet Ohanemere, aka Odumeje, and other Pastors of the Church who questioned their action.

It was equally gathered that security men tried to whisk Odumeje away when he tried to resist the demolition activities which led to the security agents attempts to manhandle him, but did not succeed in whisking him away.

He added that four cell phones, three ATM cards, and several bags of assorted foodstuff were also recovered.

In the maritime domain, Onyeuko said the Nigerian Navy Ship ‘Okpabana’ of Operation Delta Safe had, on July 5, rescued the 16 meters surfer passenger boat MV NUE SWIFT belonging to Lagos based oil service company.

He said the troops responded to a distress message about the propulsion of a boat in transit.

He added that the boat lost its propelling ability at Agbara Platform while transiting from Forcados to Bonny Mooring and drifted for 32 hours before it was rescued.

According to him, the crew and boat were handed over to Forward Base Operation Bonny on Wednesday.

“The military high command commends troops in the frontlines for their timely interventions, encourages the general public to avail troops with credible and timely information on criminal activities,” he said.
