The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ademola Adeleke has promised he won’t let the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, and the residents down if elected governor on July 16.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Adeleke Campaign Organisation, Comrade Samson Popoola, said Adeleke spoke when he visited Oba Lawal at the palace yesterday.
It reads: “The paramount ruler of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, directed residents and indigenes of Ede to vote for Senator Ademola Adeleke and ignore the 2026 false promise of governorship rotation to Osun West.
“The monarch urged heads of families and quarters in the town to mobilize and ensure they deliver Ede votes to one of their own, whom he described as capable and competent to govern the state.
“Senator Adeleke described the royal father as a faithful father of all Ede people, promising that he would not let the royal father down for the confidence reposed in him.”
Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party has stated that both the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have failed and called on the electorate in Osun State to vote the NNPP in the July 16 governorship poll.
According to Kwankwaso, quests by the NNPP to take over Nigeria in 2023 should start from Osun, as the two major parties in the country have nothing more to offer.
He declared that his supporters should be ready to vote for the candidate of the party during the governorship poll.
This was stated on Thursday by the former governor of Kano governor, Kwankwaso at a town hall meeting organized by the NNPP to rally support for its candidate in the Osun poll, Dr. Oyelami Saliu.
He urged registered voters that had not collected their Permanent Voter’s Card to do so and support the party during the poll.
He said, “the numerous members of our party are ready and determined to vote for the candidate of our party during the governorship election that is coming up.
“Our members want to see new Nigeria starting from this state. The logo of our party is well known which shows that Nigeria under this party will be united not minding religion, ethnicity or region of anybody in this country. Those who are yet to collect their PVCs should do so to vote for our party.
“Failure to vote for our party that will bring positive change is allowing these people to continue to rule our state governments and national level. All of us know that these two major parties have failed us and have nothing more to offer. Let us vote them out and that will start from this state.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given approval for the establishment of 15 more registration centres for Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the state.
The INEC Public Relations Officer in the state, Mallam Aliyu Garba, made this known in a statement on Thursday.
Garba said 15 new centres were established across 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) comprising Bakori, Batagarawa, Baure, Dandume, Daura, Dutsinma, Faskaru, Funtua, Kankara, Kankia, Katsina, Malumfashi, and Zango, with Katsina LGA having three.
Garba said: “The public will recall that INEC has acceded to the request for the extension of the CVR exercise from the date earlier set for the stoppage, June 30, 2022.
“The extension is intended to give all eligible persons intending to register, correct mistakes in their registration or transfer to another polling unit, the opportunity of doing so.
“We want to inform the public that in that direction, the INEC has approved additional 15 centers for the registration exercise.
“And 15 registration Machines will be deployed to the additional centres which are located in the LGAs.
“We want to further inform the public that three of the registration centres will be at the old Katsina Township Stadium, Kofar Keke in Katsina City, and one at Kambarawa Secondary School Daura Road Katsina.
“All other known locations of registration which include INEC Katsina State Office and INEC LGA offices will continue to be conducting the exercise.”
However, Garba noted that registration of voters in the 1,750 units earlier created to reduce congestion and address the problems of unserved and under-served areas in the state was still low.
Garba urged those eligible to seize the opportunity of the new polling units which have been created near their homes and transfer their voting locations.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has released the sum of N1.6 billion for the payment of pensions to retirees in the State.
The money, according to a statement credited to the office of the Head of Service, is for the payment of pension from the month of June 2022, to retired workers under the old Pension Scheme, retired Primary School teachers, and Local Government staff on Contributory Pensions Scheme, and retired civil servants in Ministries and Agencies of government.
N516,186,000 is meant for the payment of pension bonds to retired Primary School teachers and Local Government staff on the Contributory Pensions Scheme, and a sum of N300 million to retired civil servants in Ministries and Agencies of Government.
The State government spends N752 million on monthly pensions to all retired workers under the old Pensions Scheme.
The payment according to the statements would start on Thursday, July, 14.
“The list of beneficiaries are posted on the Notice Boards of the Local Government Pensions Bureau, Civil Service Bureau Office of the Head of Service, and the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation.
“All workers of the State, both serving and retired, are assured by Governor Gboyega Oyetola of continuous priority of their welfare in the scheme of things in the State”, the statement read.
There was outrage among Muslims in Kaduna after the state government demanded N500, 000 from the Tijaniyya sect for the use of the Murtala Muhammad Square for Eid prayer.
The square has been used for Eid prayers for over 50 years.
The Tijaniyya Mosque at Doka Road, Kaduna, had written to the Kaduna State Market Development and Management Company for approval to use the Eid ground.
But the state agency attached an invoice of N500, 000 to its response letter dated July 6, 2022, asking the Tijaniyya Mosque management to pay the sum in five days.
“You may recall our numerous engagements on this issue since 2020. Further to this, we will allow you to use the square for the last time for Eid prayers. To this end, you are required to pay the sum of N500, 000 only,” the agency’s letter, sighted by Daily Trust, said.
Since the letter was leaked online, several Muslims in the state have condemned the state government’s action.
The state government reversed its decision following the public outrage that trailed the payment request.
The Secretary of the Murtala Muhammad Eid Ground, Malam Sunusi Surajo, confirmed the N500,000 request.
He said: “It is true that we were asked to pay N500,000 before using the Eid ground but we spoke with a government representative and the government reversed its decision, saying that we should go ahead and use the square without payment.”
A Kaduna-based Islamic Scholar and one of the preachers at the Murtala Square Mosque, Shaikh Haliru Maraya, described the government reversal as an afterthought.
He said the government’s decision came to them as a surprise because Muslims had been praying at the square many years ago.
Former Director General, Bureau for Interfaith, Shaikh Jamil Albany, denied the claims that payment was made into the government account before the decision was reversed.
The Market Development and Management Company, in a statement yesterday by its Managing Director, Tamar Nandul, said Governor Nasir El-rufai has approved a waiver for the mosque.
“We are pleased to inform you of the governor’s decision to waive the fee for the use of the square for Eid prayer,” Nandul said.

Borno State Senator and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Ali Ndume, on Thursday said President Muhammadu Buhari should directly address the nation on the matter of insecurity, rather than issuing statements through his media advisers.
The Senator made the comment while responding to questions on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
“I’ve said it before,” Mr Ndume said. “When it comes to issues like these, it is the President himself that is supposed to be talking to Nigerians, not some press adviser.
“The President, of course, should be taking responsibility . . . he is the President. By the time you ask people to elect you as President, anything that happens to any Nigerian, God will hold you accountable you for it.”
Mr Ndume added that he was “really disappointed with the response of so many leaders.
“And it is our responsibility – of government – the security and welfare of its citizens. And you have leaders responding as if it is a casualty, not their responsibility.
“I feel pained to be called a Senator. I’m almost like helpless. Many of us are like that, sitting down as observers.”
Mr Ndume’s comments comes days after terrorists attacked a prison in Kuje, the Federal Capital Territory.
Many of those who escaped are believed to be dangerous Boko Haram members.
President Muhammadu Buhari visited the custodial centre on Wednesday, expressing regret over the attack.

Shinzo Abe, Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, was in grave condition on Friday after being shot while campaigning for a parliamentary election, with public broadcaster NHK saying a man with what appeared to be a homemade gun opened fire.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida condemned the shooting in the western city of Nara in the “strongest terms”.
Japanese people and world leaders expressed shock at the assassination attempt, an extremely rare attack in Japan that its political parties condemned.
Struggling to keep emotions in check, Kishida said Abe, 67, was in grave condition and the assault on him during the campaign for Sunday’s upper house election was an unacceptable attack on the foundation of Japan’s democracy.
“Everything that can be done is being done to revive him. I’m praying from the depths of my heart that his life will be saved,” Kishida told reporters. He said he was not aware of any motive for the “absolutely unforgivable” attack.
A fire department official said earlier that Abe appeared to be in a state of cardiac arrest when airlifted to hospital.
Police said a 41-year-old man suspected of carrying out the shooting had been arrested. NHK quoted the suspect, identified as Tetsuya Yamagami, as telling police he was dissatisfied with Abe and wanted to kill him.
Abe was making a campaign speech outside a train station when two shots rang out at about 11:30 a.m. (0230 GMT). Security officials were then seen tackling a man in a grey T-shirt and beige trousers.
“There was a loud bang and then smoke,” businessman Makoto Ichikawa, who was at the scene, told Reuters, adding that the gun was the size of a television camera.
“The first shot, no one knew what was going on, but after the second shot, what looked like special police tackled him.”
