You Have Demonstrated Sense Of Purpose By Allowing A Free, Fair Presidential Primaries, Tinubu Praises Buhari

Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has confirmed the nomination of Borno Central Senator, Kashim Shetima, as his running mate for 2023 presidential election.

Tinubu made the confirmation on Sunday while speaking with journalists shortly after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the latter’s residence in Daura, Katsina State.

Tinubu was accompanied to Daura hometown of President Buhari by road by the State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, after landing at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport in Katsina.

Shettima, a former governor of Borno State, was, however, absent during the announcement.

Meanwhile, shortly before the announcement by Tinubu in Daura, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, who was earlier nominated as a placeholder running mate, announced his withdrawal from the 2023 presidential race.

Before his withdrawal, Masari was nominated as ‘placeholder’ running mate to Tinubu in order to allow the latter ample time to eventually nominate the right running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

In a statement signed by Masari and issued from Saudi Arabia on Sunday, titled, ‘Resignation As APC Vice Presidential Nominee’, he said he was stepping down “after much reflection and wider consultations.”

“This is to inform our esteemed party leaders under our able President Muhammadu Buhari, teeming party members and the great people of Nigeria, of the outcome of a crucial discussion I just had with the flag-bearer of our great party, All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Recall that I had the singular honour and privilege of being nominated as the running-mate to Asiwaju Tinubu last month after a keenly contested presidential primaries ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“But, after much reflection and wider consultations, I now wish to step down. I realized that my decision will enable Asiwaju have more latitude to give more accommodation and inclusion that will position our party to win the coming elections, with the support of the people of Nigeria.

“In stepping down, I believe I can still serve our party and the country in several other capacities.

“I wish to confirm that I have submitted my withdrawal letter and affidavit to that effect as the Vice Presidential Candidate to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed TInubu in the coming elections.

“On behalf of myself and family, I wish to sincerely thank Asiwaju Tinubu — the Incoming President, Insha Allah — for his trust in me and we promise to remain steadfast in our support for him and the party,” Masari stated.

2023 Presidency: Why We Will Work For Peter Obi Not Atiku – Plateau Ex-Reps Member, Kaze

Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, a former member of the House of Representatives from Plateau State, and a chieftain of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Bitrus Kaze has declared that he will not work for the party’s candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

He said he would instead work towards the emergence Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi.

He also said working for Atiku would be a betrayal of trust, because his emergence as a candidate was against the party’s zoning formula.

He equally said working for Labour Party’s Obi is being faithful to PDP’s zoning formula which is enshrined in its constitution.

Kaze made his declaration in an interview with journalists in Jos, the Plateau State capital, saying if the PDP did not respect its zoning formula, his support for Obi does not amount to anti-party.

He said, “Let me be honest with you, I won’t work for Atiku, because doing so offends our social, religious, and even our economic responsibilities.

“That somebody from the North-West would be President for eight years, you expect somebody from the North-East, same religion like the outgoing to be there for another eight years; it will be betrayal of trust for me to commit myself for such a project on the Plateau, I will not.”

“As a person, I’m at home with Peter Obi, and I will suggest to our people to vote for him, because his candidature pronounces justice, he carries every section of this country.

“I’m not afraid to say it, I’m prepared to say it anywhere”, he maintained.

Kaze, who represented Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency between 2007 to 2015, however, said, “If the PDP is able to take the ticket from the North and give anybody from the South, I will support that person.”

“But to the extent that the PDP has infringed upon its own constitution, I will remain faithful to the constitution of the party by supporting anybody from Southern Nigeria, and the closest is Peter Obi”, Kaze stressed.

According to him, “In Plateau State, they have learnt from their mistake of 2015, when they refused to zone the governorship to Plateau South, and we lost the election; now its the turn of Plateau Central and the PDP in the State has respected that by zoning it there.

“So, if I did not support the PDP candidate (late Sen. Gyang Pwajok) in my State (Plateau) in 2015, I will be unfair to him, if I support the candidature of Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential race.”

“Like Peter Obi or not; you can be diehard PDP or APC but his movement is reigning and raiding everywhere in this country; nobody can pretend not to take cognisance of this, because Nigerians feel both APC and PDP on the presidential tickets are avoidable, there is no question about that.

“Therefore, I don’t want to discuss Christian-Christian or Muslim-Muslim ticket; my own is simple, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria provides that this country must be administered in a manner that commands national loyalty; the constitution of the PDP says that there shall be zoning, and it shall be enforced.

“If PDP does not respect zoning at the presidential level, at what level would it respect zoning?”. He queried.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government will continue to prioritise the well-being and safety of all Nigerians.

Mr Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, gave the assurance in a statement in Abuja while felicitating Muslims on the Eid-el-Kabir.

He, however, called on Nigerians to place national interest first in all their dealings and shun retrogressive elements seeking to divide the country through terror and hate.

The APC scribe noted that the Eid-El-Kabir festival required sacrifice, submission and devotion to Allah.

“We enjoin the Muslim Ummah, during this period, to recommit themselves to Islamic teachings of understanding, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

“As we celebrate with family, friends and other loved ones, we will do well to be our brothers’ keeper by extending kindness to our neigbours, particularly the needy and less-priviledged.

He urged Nigerians not to yield to retrogressive elements seeking to divide the people through terror and hate.

He further urged Nigerians to continue to support and pray for the government of Buhari as it tackled the county’s security challenges.

He said Nigerians should also continue to reject insensitive and unpatriotic attempts by some partisans to politicise security breaches by enemies of the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari has again asked the security apparatus of the country, including the military, the police, DSS and others to rise up to the occasion and eliminate all security threats across the country.

Buhari said this while speaking to newsmen after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers in his country home, Daura.

The president, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, also said increased disclosure of unusual activities would expose bandits and terrorists.

He said all those that had unleashed mayhem on innocent citizens should reflect on their atrocities, knowing that they soiled their own name and that of their family.

“We are praying that the rainy season would be good for the production of the food we eat in the country.

“Look at when we closed the borders for about two years, a lot of people went back to the farms and they have not regretted that decision. Now, we are feeding ourselves and exporting rice,” he said.

After the Eid-el-Kabir prayers, Buhari walked to his residence, where he received and greeted residents who lined up by the roadside.

The development elicited cheers, prayers and praises.

At the prayer ground, the Emir of Daura, Dr Faruk Umar Faruk, said the president had represented the Daura Emirate and indigenes well in his service to the country, upholding his integrity at all times and working for the collective good of all.

Buhari said the scheme was one of adding that most of the corps members serving in Daura came from far away southern states.
