The All Progressives Congress (APC) has debunked reports that its legal adviser has resigned in protests over the selection of Kashim Shettima as the running mate of its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu
APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, in a statement on Monday described the report as false and misleading.
The reports followed an announcement by Abuja-based lawyer, Daniel Bwala, that he is quitting the ruling party over the selection of Shetimmma, who like Tinubu, is a Muslim.
But in its statement, Morka said Bwala is not the party’s legal adviser.
“Our attention has been drawn to a false and misleading report circulating on some media platforms that the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has resigned.
“Barr. Ahmad Usman El-Marzuq is, and remains, the National Legal Adviser of APC.
“Barr. Daniel Bwala was not the National Legal Adviser of the Party as erroneously reported.
“The report is either borne out of mischief or extreme negligence. We urge the general public to kindly disregard,” Morka said.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell
EU’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Bali showed to him the different perspectives around the world on the situation in Ukraine and its consequences.
“In the March vote at the UN General Assembly, 140 states condemned the Russian aggression and no member of the G20, apart from the aggressor, opposed this resolution. But on how to move forward and on the consequences of the war, views differ sharply,” Borrell said in a statement published on the EU’s website on Sunday. “The G7 and like-minded countries are united in condemning and sanctioning Russia and in trying to hold the regime accountable. But other countries, and we can speak here of the majority of the `Global South’, often take a different perspective,” he concluded.
“The global battle of narratives is in full swing and, for now, we are not winning,” Borrell emphasized.
The G20 foreign ministerial sessions held in Bali on July 7-8 were attended by Russia’s top diplomat Sergey Lavrov. The Russian foreign minister held a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a special military operation in response to a request by the heads of the two Donbass republics. The US, the EU, the UK and a number of other countries retaliated with sweeping sanctions against Russia and have been ramping up their weapons supplies to Ukraine.
The candidacy of former Borno state governor and current legislator in the 9th Senate, Senator Kashim Shettima, as the vice-presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been applauded by the Chief executive Officer and Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe.
The presidential candidate of the ruling APC,Bola Tinubu, had on Sunday announced Senator Kashim Shettima, as his running mate in the 2023 Presidential elections, this while addressing journalists in Katsina.
Dr. Chidia, a former member of the House of Representatives and Chairman House committee on Defence who also in the Parliament with Senator Bola Tinubu at the National Assembly in 1992 allayed fears that the same religious background of both Tinubu and Shettima will sectionalise the country.
Chidia Maduekwe in a statement on Monday described both candidates as liberals who will uphold the collective interest of Nigeria’s multi ethnic and religious status.
While urging Nigerians to examine the candidates based on their economic development tendencies, the NFC Boss said that both candidates having passed through the executive and Legislative arms of government have acquired the requisite expertise needed to solve the current economic and security challenges distressing the nation.
According to the Chidia, the antecedence of both Tinubu and Shettima while in office as Governors and legislators has proven that they were fair in the delivery of democratic dividends to the masses regardless of their religious or tribal background.
Chidia said; “The choice of Shettima as the running mate to Senator Bola Tinubu should be seen as a welcome development, it’s on record that Senator Shettima as Governor of Borno state was fair to the Christians in Borno State despite the security Challenges bedeviling the state, Shettima ensured that the welfare and security of the Christians were prioritised”.
“Putting sentiments asides if we are to be honest, Politics is all about winning , and judging by the current political situation Asiwaju is left with no other choice than to pick a Muslim vice President from the Muslim majority North-East zone where his major opponent, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) hails from.
“However, as coincidence will have it both men have almost the same liberal traits coming from a professional sector, with Asiwaju being a trained accountant and Shettima also a trained financial expert having worked in the banking sector.
“Asiwaju as governor of Lagos State from 1999 – 2007 understands what it takes to govern a cosmopolitan economy while Shettima being a former Governor of Borno state from 2011 – 2019 also knows the implication of favouring a particular religion as a result of the terrorism attacks perpetrated by ISWAP in his state. Additionally they both have experience in the legislature with Asiwaju being a former Senator and Kashim Shettima a current Senator in the 9th Senate, so Nigerians have absolutely nothing to fear.
“We have the records of how Shettima prioritized the welfare of the Christian community in Borno State when he was governor, Asiwaju on his part also laid the economic blue print in Lagos which has turned the states revenue to yielding billions monthly and has also witnessed massive economic and infrastructural transformation to say the least this the best combination that Nigeria needs at this point in time”, Chidia concluded.

The 10-year-old girl identified simply as Chidimma works as a maid in Warri, Delta State, but hails from Imo State. She accused her madam of maltreating her almost every night for refusing to lick her private parts and suck her breasts.
Speaking in pidgin English, she said;
“My aunty came to our village and told my parents that she wanted someone who would be taking care of her children because she is not always at home. I agreed to follow her but sometime after we came to Warri, when I wanted to sleep in the night, she would come and wake me up and ask me to suck her private parts and her breasts and if I refused to lick them, she would slap me.
Sometimes if I refused to do it when I was sleeping, she would come to me and march on me with her two legs and ask me to stand up. She would then force me to suck her private parts and I would climb on her to suck her breasts which have chicken pox.
When I finished sucking, she would ask me to bring my torch and insert it in my private parts. But when I could not do it, she forcefully pushed me out, shouting at me and asking why I could not do what she wanted me to do at my age.
I was worried that at my age, this woman wanted to deflower me. My mother never taught me anything like that.
For three months now, whenever I am sleeping in the middle of the night, she would wake me up and force me to do that and when she notices that her children are looking at us, she would shift her body away from me. I am 10 years old but she has made me look as if I am 13 years old.”

The UK’s Foreign Secretary Liz Truss announced she would run for Tory leader and prime minister in an article for The Telegraph late on Sunday.
“We face huge challenges at home amid the global economic crisis. We face huge challenges abroad, from an aggressive Russia to an increasingly assertive China,” she wrote in the article published on the daily’s website. “It will be an uphill battle, but one we can win by delivering for the British people. I am putting myself forward because I can lead, deliver and make the tough decisions.”
The British foreign secretary was one of the most ardent critics of Russia in the government of Boris Johnson who announced his decision on Thursday to resign as the UK’s PM. In the article, Truss praised herself for having “helped to lead the international response” to Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine and “delivered a tough sanctions package that has led the world.”
Truss and Defense Secretary Ben Wallace were the most likely candidates for prime minister, however Wallace revealed on Saturday that he had decided not to run in the leadership contest.
