Kuje Jailbreak: Osinachi’s Husband, Nwachukwu, Wadume Still In Custody – NCoS

The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has dismissed reports that Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the late gospel singer, Osinachi, and a suspected kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala (a.k.a. Wadume), escaped from custody during July 5 jailbreak at Kuje Custodial Centre, Abuja.

The Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, NCoS, Mr Chukwuedo Humphrey, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja that the two inmates were still in custody.

Some media reports had claimed that Osinachi’s husband and Wadume escaped during July 5 terrorists’ attack on the custodial centre.

NAN reports that terrorists, who attacked the custodial centre, freed about 879 inmates.

Humphrey said the clarification became necessary in view of a publication by an online medium alleging that Wadume and Osinachi’s husband escaped.

“The story is false, reckless and mischievous. They are still in custody. Efforts are ongoing to recapture all fleeing inmates.

“The Controller-General, NCoS, Haliru Nababa, is determined to continue to upscale inmates’ welfare and safety, ” he said.

NAN reports that a Federal Capital Territory High Court had ordered the remand of Osinachi’s husband at the custodial centre in connection with the singer’s death in April.

Hamisu Bala was arrested in August 2019 by the Intelligence Response Team over the alleged supply of arms and ammunition to terrorists. (NAN).

Muslim-Muslim Ticket: We Can't Take It, Reverse Shettima's Nomination - Former SGF, Lawal Tells Buhari

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Engr. Babachir Lawal has rejected Senator Kashim Shettima as the Vice-Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections.

APC presidential flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, announced his choice of Shettima on Sunday.

This has generated heated controversy among the populace.

However, Babachir, who hitherto had been a vocal supporter of Tinubu, condemned the action of the Presidential candidate.

In a statement on Tuesday night, the former SGF urged President Muhammadu Buhari to exercise his powers as the Commander-in-Chief and as the APC Leader to revoke Shettima’s nomination.

“I thought I will be able to avoid commenting on the disastrous error by my very good friend, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his choice of a running mate. I will be the very last person to stand in the way of my very good friend Tinubu’s path to the presidency. This is because since 2011 my consuming passion has been for him to succeed Buhari as President of Nigeria,” Lawal said.

According to him, he had conveyed his reservations to Tinubu and his friends against the “pitfalls” of a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

He said he has on many occasions argued the merits and demerits of both ticket permutations to him and had also in both verbal and written form showed his displeasure with such development.

“Tinubu is a very good man. He is a great listener. He has a very humble and friendly disposition to everyone. But I have realized that it is in the nature of power that sycophants and lapdogs have the most influence on leaders with such character traits.”

“They will lie to him, malign and disparage others and generally do anything to curry his favor and to also put well-meaning associates in a bad light. I suspect this is what has happened to my friend. He has been cornered by self-serving, hero-worshiping, lapdogs.

“It never used to be like this. While in his hay-days in Lagos, he surrounded himself with smart, street-wise guys that could tell truth to power. He had Rauf Aregbesola, Yemi Osinbajo, Babatunde Fashola, Dele Alake, Muiz Banire, etc. The Lagos days were the days of think-tanks, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, principles, and ideologies.

“But these people have since grown-up and moved up to establish their own systems living my friend stranded. But the Abuja equivalent are people inflicted with the modern Nigerian diseases-religious bigotry, sycophancy, and morbid tribalism.

“The result is that they have played on his (Tinubu) long-term ambition to be President and have built it into a sort of desperation and a crescendo that easily justifies this satanic resort to a Muslim-Muslim ticket. This is the calamity that has befallen my friend,” Babachir said.

He also wondered why Shetima, who he said is an “overambitious man who has a Machiavellian bent and has lots of money with which to procure a preferred-candidate status among Tinubu’s lapdogs”.

He said, “And as we are beginning to see, to also procure bogus supporters, especially from among the Christian community to help launder his not-so-good image. But as a popular proverb goes: ‘Those whom the gods want to destroy they first make mad’. It appears that the gods want to destroy the APC and its Presidential Candidate and have chosen the instrumentality of the northern Moslem governors and their super ambitious tool and Kashim Ibrahim for this purpose.

“Alhaji Kashim Shetima is a Greek gift from the Northern governors to Tinubu. I advise Bola to make sure Kashima’s two hands are always in his plain sight and empty. Tinubu has made his choice. And I am sure he thinks he is ready for the outcome of that choice. He has chosen to bring religion to the front burner of Nigerian politics. And being a Muslim, he has chosen to take sides with his own religion. For all he cares, Christians can go to blazes with their votes”, Babachir added.

He also said that Tinubu must also be told that there will consequence for this choice.

He said that some of them are that Christians all over the country will revolt against the APC to put the chances of his election in serious jeopardy.

He said the development will also put the election of all Christians standing for elections in Christian-dominated areas in jeopardy.

He said, “This could result in APC being a minority party in both the National and State Houses of Assembly.
“Now tell me which Christian will vote for APC with the following contraption: Moslem Presidential Candidate (Lagos), Moslem Vice Presidential Candidate (Borno), Moslem National Chairman (Nasarawa), Moslem Deputy National Chairman (Borno), Moslem President (Katsina); Moslem Senate President (Yobe); Moslem Speaker (Lagos); Moslem Deputy Speaker (Plateau).”

He added that a Muslim-Muslim ticket will drag down the whole APC members to the pit and should be rejected.

2023 Presidency: Christian Politicians In APC Warn Against Muslim-Muslim Ticket

Christian politicians in the nineteen Northern States within the All Progressives Congress, APC have warned of dire consequences of the Muslim-Muslim ticket ahead of the 2023 presidential poll.

The party’s presidential candidate, Ahmed Bola Tinubu had on Sunday announced former Borno Governor, Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Reacting to the Choice of the former Governor of Borno State, the group stressed that the country’s unity is of utmost importance and not any other thing.

It further explained that without unity it would be impossible to build.

In a Communique issued at the end of its meeting on Monday night, the Christian politicians said it would be difficult for them to sell the party candidates to their constituencies.

In the document signed by Prof Doknan DD Sheni and General Ishaya G Bauka, Chairman and Secretary respectively, the group argued that the situation of the country now cannot be compared to what it was in 1993 when the people settled for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

They added, “The selection of a Moslem vice presidential candidate portrays insensitivity to Christians in the country.

“The fear of the Christians in the north and the nation, in general, is that the APC will be viewed as an Islamic party.”

They further argued that if it was not possible in 2015, now is not the best time to introduce it.

“More so, that we are apprehensive that the person picked might have had a hand in the Chibok girls saga and other terror activities

“Moslem -Moslem ticket would undermine the election chances of Christian candidates in APC in the various states in the North.

“The Christians in the north and the whole nation are highly aggravated.

“The Chairman of the party is a Moslem, Deputy Chairman north, a Moslem, the President of the Senate, a Moslem, the Speaker and Deputy, Moslems and now both the Presidential and Vice-presidential candidates are Moslems. Apart from violating the constitution in section 14 subsection 3, if this was to be reversed, that all these were Christians, can any Moslem in the North sell the APC presidential tickets to any Moslem ummah?

The group warned that “If this selection of a Moslem Vice President candidate is not changed, there will be serious and grave consequences.”

The group further added, “At this moment of national peril, what should be paramount in Nigeria is unity and not infrastructure or economy. For without unity we cannot build. Any party or candidate that elevates the greed of a few above the needs of the many has no business running the affairs of Nigeria.
