The deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Funke Akindele has congratulated Senator Ademola Adeleke, governor-elect of Osun State.
The Hollywood actress also stated that the victory shows power has changed hands, describing Adeleke as the light of Osun State.
She wrote on her official Instagram account:
“Congratulations Senator Ademola Adeleke on your victory as the next Governor of Osun State. Indeed power has changed hands. IMOLE DE!!!
“Sir, you are the light of Osun State and I pray God grants you good health and long life to achieve all your good intentions for the people of Osun. God bless you, sir.”
The PDP candidate polled 403,371 votes while the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer, Gov. Gboyega Oyetola got 375,027.
Ademola won in 17 of the 30 local government areas of the state after voting took place in 3,763 polling units.
The Senate through its Panel on Public Accounts has ordered the arrest of the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency, Dr Bashir Jamoh, for allegedly paying $5m to a legal firm as a professional fee for the recovery of a $9.3bn loss.
The $5m was paid for the intelligence-based tracking of a global movement of Nigerian hydrocarbon and recovery of loss by the Federal Government of Nigeria in the sum of $9.3bn between 2013 and 2014.
The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Matthew Urhogbide, at a briefing on Sunday, was furious with the agency over the failure of NIMASA to appear before the panel, saying that the panel had no other option than to issue a warrant of arrest on the DG of NIMASA.
He said, “We have invited NIMASA up to three times, but they have failed to honour our invitations. This committee has no other option than to issue a warrant of arrest against the Director General of the agency. They can come to the National Assembly for fund appropriation, but when it is time to give account they will be nowhere to be found.
“The committee had invited NIMASA up to three times for the explanation on the payment of $5 million as professional fee and details of $9.3bn loss by the Federal government, but the agency declined the invitation.”
The Auditor General’s report seen by our correspondent revealed that all efforts by the Auditor General of the Federation to get the details of the $9.3bn loss by the Federal government for thorough scrutiny were not granted by NIMASA.
According to AuGF report, the money was paid from Zenith Bank (UK)’s dollar account.
The query read, “Audit observed that the agency engaged the service of a legal firm through a letter with reference number NIMASA/DG/KP/2014/001, dated 24th January 2014 for the intelligence-based tracking of a global movement of Nigerian Hydro-Carbon and recovery of loss by the Federal Government of Nigeria in the sum of $9.3bn between 2013 and 2014, with a start-off cost of $5m and five per cent of all sums recovered.
“Payment instruction with reference number NIMASA/2007/DFS/WJ/5.500/VOL.11/341 dated April 2014 showed that the firm was paid the sum of $4,523,809.52 (Four million five hundred and twenty-three thousand eight hundred and nine dollars fifty-two cents only) net as professional fees from Zenith Bank (UK) Dollar account.
“The naira equivalent of this amount was N741,904,761.28 at an exchange rate of N164 to a dollar as of that date.
“No evidence of recovery of either part or the entire sum of the 9.3 Billion US Dollars was presented at the time of the periodic check-in in February 2018, despite the huge amount of money already paid to this effect.
“It is instructive to note that details of the transaction leading to the loss of $9.3bn to the Federal Government which only came to audit attention through the review of the letter from the agency to the legal firm so as to ascertain what could have transpired, resulting in such a huge loss were not presented for audit.”
“Ordinarily, the firm should have deducted its fees from the amounts recovered for the FGN, and not receive fees in advance in lieu of the recoveries.
It added, “Audit is concerned that payments were made for service not rendered and this may be a deliberate attempt to divert government funds for personal use.
“The Director-General is required to justify the payment for service not rendered, failing which the sum of N741,904,761.28 should be recovered from the legal firm and paid into the CRF, forwarding evidence of payment to the Public Account Committees of the National Assembly and to the Office of Auditor-General for the Federation for verification. Sanctions stated in FR 3104 should apply. He is also required to provide details of the transaction(s) leading to the loss of 9.3 Billion US Dollars for thorough scrutiny.”
Efforts to get a reaction from NIMASA on Sunday were not successful.
Several calls and messages sent to the Assistant Director, Public Relations, NIMASA, Osagie Edward, were not responded to as of the time of filing this report.

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has reacted to the outcome of the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday.
ABN TV reports that Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defeated incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola in the keenly contested election.
In a statement made available to the media on Monday, the National President of OYC, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike said Adeleke’s victory was a clear indication that “it is no longer business as usual.”
He also hailed Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri for leading what he called ‘ballot box revolution to Osun State.’
He said unlike previous elections where the youths showed indifference, “the youth population are now alive to their responsibilities. We commend the dexterity of the youths, who did not just come out en-mass but voted and stayed back to ensure that the results were announced and transmitted.
“The defeat of the incumbent Governor, right there in the home State of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, is a clear indication that the citizens no longer vote for parties but individuals. It is now a total departure from the ugly past.”
Okwu added that the outcome of the election was also a warning signal “that there will be no hiding place for all failed politicians no matter their acclaimed clout.
“This is no longer a time people hide under political parties to undermine the electorate. They will be served a bitter defeat in 2023.”
He added that, “Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State also deserves our commendation for coordinating the ballot box revolution in Osun. We need such coordination to chase out bad politicians in 2023.”
Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, has provided another reason why the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should disqualify Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP.

The Zamfara State Government has suspended the Emir of Birnin ‘Yandoto of Tsafe Local Government Area, Aliyu Marafa, for conferring a chieftaincy title to a “notorious bandit leader”.
Secretary to the State Government, Kabiru Sardauna, announced the suspension in a statement on Sunday.

Apart from suspending the emir, Governor Bello Matawalle approved the appointment of a Committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the action of the Emir.
The committee has Yahaya Goro as chairman and Musa Garba as secretary. Members are Yahay Kanoma, Muhammed Magaji, Lawal Zannah, Isa Moriki.
“In the meantime, Alh. Mahe Garba Marafa, who is the District Head of ‘Yandoto is hereby assigned to take charge of the affairs of the Emirate,” the statement said.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Abdullahi Adamu on Sunday said he is yet to get formal notification from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on who won the Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
Adamu claimed he is unaware Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola lost his reelection bid to his closest rival, the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke.
Adamu who made the remarks while speaking on Arise TV programme on Sunday, denied having knowledge of the winner of the Osun governorship election.
He told the presenter, “With due respect, my dear brother, I am just really hearing this from you. I have not formally heard the announcement from INEC, which is the independent commission responsible for election in Nigeria.
“I have not heard from them yet. Once I hear formally from INEC, I can be in a position to answer this particular question.”
When told that the results and the breakdown of the ballots from the 30 local government areas were all over the pages of major newspapers across the country, Adamu remained adamant.
“Between me and you, I have not formally heard from INEC and I have not read the papers you are talking about. I do read some papers on my table before I have my breakfast but I haven’t done that today yet,” he said.
Asked whether the party will accept defeat if he finally gets to see the result and breakdown of voting pattern, the APC chair stuck to his gun.
He said, “I don’t like pre-empting my situation. You need to be patient. Since you got the result, wait for me too to receive it. You can get back to me and I will be willing to talk about it.
“Until I hear from INEC formally or my people in the control room confirm that it is the result, of course, I will abide by it. But hearing the result first from you is unacceptable. You are not INEC.”
The communities recently issued with quit notice by bandits in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State have deserted.
