National Grid Collapse: Atiku Proposes Solutions To Solve Electricity Problem

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has proposed a solution to the continued collapse of the national grid.

Atiku proposed innovative financing of infrastructure in the power sector.

He said the financing would involve the facilitation of a review of the financial, legal, and regulatory environment to promote private investment in the power sector.

In a post on his Facebook page, Atiku wrote: “I am reliably informed that there was a total National Grid Collapse at precisely 12:23pm today. This is one collapse too many. It is the 6th time this is happening this year alone.

“Due to the priority that I place on the power sector upon which the successes of other sectors are hinged, I am proposing innovative financing of infrastructure that will involve the facilitation of a review of the financial, legal, and regulatory environment to promote private investment in power, among other sectors.

“I’ll promote the incentivisation, with tax breaks, a consortium of private sector institutions to establish an Infrastructure Debt Fund (IDF) to primarily mobilise domestic and international private resources for the financing and delivery of large infrastructure projects across all the sectors of the economy.

“The IDF will have an initial investment capacity of approximately US$20 billion. In addition, I’ll cause the creation of an Infrastructure Development Credit Guarantee Agency to complement the operation of the IDF by de-risking investments in infrastructure to build investor confidence in taking risks and investing capital.”

TCN Gives Update On Collapse Of National Grid

NUEE Again, Threatens To Shut Down The National Grid

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Thursday said restoration of the national grid is almost completed following its collapse on Wednesday.

Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.

Mbah said that the national grid experienced system disturbance at about 11:27a.m. on Wednesday, but that its restoration was almost completed as at 11:00p.m.

”The incident was as a result of a sudden drop in system frequency from 49.94 Hertz (HZ) to 47.36Hz, which created system instability,” she said.

Hertz is a unit of frequency which replaces the earlier term of one cycle per second (cps).

Mbah said that reports from the National Control Centre (NCC), revealed that the collapse was precipitated by the tripping of a unit with a load of 106 Megawatts (MW) in one of the generating stations due to “Exhaust over Temperature”.

She said the tripping pulled out other grid-connected units in the plant, which resulted in aggregated generation loss of 457MW.

“A train of events ensued, culminating in the collapse of the national grid.

“As obtainable in all systems, when a component of the electric power system is defective, the entire configuration is vitiated,” she said

Mbah said investigation was going on to establish the cause of the failure.

She said the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) appreciated the understanding of the government and consumers of electricity within and outside the country.

Mbah said that NESI was committed to leveraging on interventions instituted thus far to enhance power supply reliability.

Clerics At Shettima’s Unveiling Are Not Hired, Says Tinubu

The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated the clerics at the unveiling of his running mate Senator Kashim Shettima were not fake.

He said they were at the event, which was open to all, as genuine well-wishers.

The former Lagos Governor, in a statement by The Tinubu Campaign Organisation (TCO), said the viral videos and pictures of the clerics at the event were the handiworks of political distractors.

The statement by the Director of Media and Communication of the organisation, Bayo Onanuga, described the development as unwarranted distractions.

APC presented Senator Shettima to the public and its various organs as the running mate to the party’s presidential standard-bearer at the well-attended ceremony at Shehu Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

But many faulted the presence of Christian clerics at the event, alleging they were hired and fake.

But TCO, in a statement, explained: “The event was an open affair, which allowed members of the public to attend, including the clergymen and some others now being derided by hirelings of the opposition.

“We want to say that those clergymen were not fake, not mechanics or yam sellers as the purveyors of hatred have made Nigerians believe in the social media. They are not big names in Christendom yet, they are gradually building up their missions.

“They are church leaders who genuinely believe that Nigerians must eschew politics of hatred and religious bigotry and rather embrace politics of peace and nation building.

“We, therefore, deplore the hysterical twisting of the presence of these men and women in cassocks and the false accusation against our candidates, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Shettima.

“The orchestrated social media sensation over the presence of the men is needless and all calculated to detract from the huge success recorded at the momentous event on Wednesday.

“We believe Nigerians are too wise and discerning to see through this shenanigan. Asiwaju Tinubu and his running mate and our great party are working very hard to provide purposeful leadership and good progressive governance that will improve the quality of life of Nigerians.

“We are well aware that the opposition parties and the sponsors of the social media charade are jittery and threatened by the intimidating political credentials of our candidates. The only way they hope to shift the attention of public scrutiny away from their uninspiring candidates and credentials is to create social media distraction.

“Our campaign is determined on focusing on core governance issues that affect all Nigerians to confront them and make the desired improvements in the standard of living of our people.”

Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fired back at critics who accused his team of hiring street urchins and dressing them as Christian clerics during Wednesday’s unveiling of his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima in Abuja.

In a statement through his campaign organization, Tinubu said the event was open to all, including clergymen.

Accusing the opposition of cashing in on the development to stir unnecessary attacks on APC, Director, Media and Communication of the TInubu Campaign Organization TCO, Bayo Onanuga also described as “unwarranted distractions” the viral pictures and videos of some clergymen and women at the unveiling.

Onanuga, said “the event was an open affair, which allowed members of the public to attend, including the clergymen and some others now being derided by hirelings of the opposition”.

Part of the statement reads; “We want to say that those clergymen were not fake, not mechanics or yam sellers as the purveyors of hatred have made Nigerians to believe in the social media. They are not big names in Christendom yet, they are gradually building up their missions.

“They are church leaders who genuinely believe that Nigerians must eschew politics of hatred and religious bigotry and rather embrace politics of peace and nation building.

Shettima Unveiling: We Were Promised N100K, Paid N40K – ‘Bishop’ Claims

Facts on how the All Progressives Congress, APC reportedly hired Christian clergymen and women to participate in the unveiling of the party’s vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima have emerged.

Recall that Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, unveiled the former Borno State governor as his running mate on Wednesday in Abuja.

Footages of bishops dressed in cassocks who attended the event have flooded social media amid controversy surrounding the same faith ticket.

ABN TV reports that the ruling party is currently receiving backlashes from Nigerians for reportedly hiring fake bishops in a bid to claim support of the Christian community in the presidential race.

One of the ‘bishops’ who spoke with Peoples Gazette, Joseph Odaudu alleged that they were hired from a motor park.

According to him, the APC members promised to pay them N100,000 each.

He, however, lamented that he only got N40,000 instead of the promised N100,000

“They came to meet us at the car park behind Eagle Square and they promised to give me N100,000. They bought food for us and took us to another place where they gave us clothes to dress like Christian leaders and reverend fathers,” Mr Odaudu told The Gazette.

“But after we finished, they only gave me N40,000 and another person said they got only N30,000. I don’t know why they changed our agreement because they said they had N100,000 for us.

“I am a Christian and I am supporting Tinubu but I hate when people lie and fail to deliver on their promises,” he added.

However, the Tinubu Campaign Organisation, TCO, had debunked the reports of fake bishops, saying they are clerics without big names.

TCO, in a statement by its Director of Media and Communication, Mr. Bayo Onanuga declared that the bishops were not hired.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has said people should not complain about Muslim-Muslim ticket because this is not the first time that Nigeria will have such a situation in place.

The governor said this on Channels Television while commenting on the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC,) Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s choice of Kashim Shettima as his running mate.

Sule argued that majority of governors in the country rode on Christian-Christian tickets to power but nobody is complaining both that.

He said, “This is not the first time that we have had a president and his number two of the same faith. All people need to do is to go back and look at history of Nigeria. This also is not the first time that we have had elections where somebody from the south west will pick somebody from the north east both of the same faith. As a matter of fact, they won their elections.

“If you look at the number of governors that we have and the number of deputy governors we have, we have almost 64% who are Christians and the remaining are Muslims. Over 60 percent of governors and their deputies are actually Christians.

“The whole southern part of the country you have 17 governors; only one of them is Muslim. Nobody is complaining about that. Look at all the southern governors of PDP; none of them is Muslim.”

Recall that some Christians and Muslims have condemned his choice of Shettima, noting that he trampled on ‘democratic balancing’.

Yesterday APC Muslim youths rejected his choice of Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate, advising him to replace the former governor of Borno with a Christian political leader or cleric from the North.

Clearing himself in a statement via Twitter handle, Jagaban opined: “This chapter in our nation’s history demands a bold yet pragmatic approach.

“In selecting Senator Shettima I have committed myself to this path. I have made the hard choice because I believe it is the best choice.

“Together, we shall build this party and this nation. This is where politics must end and leadership must begin.
