The Labour Party Candidate for House of Representatives, Ikwuano-Umuahia Federal Constituency of Abia State, Chief Obi Aguocha has called on supporters of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the party to also ensure they vote for National Assembly members of LP to ensure that the policies and programmes of the party will be effectively executed.

He said in the absence of this, the opposition of members of the National Assembly will thwart the Labour Party’s effort to entrench democratic dividends to the Nigerian people.

In a statement on Saturday, he said this will protect Peter Obi, whom he described as incoming President.

According to him, it will provide the necessary legislative support and protection that will enable him govern and discharge his duties effectively and expeditiously without hindrance, disruption or undue delay at the National Assembly.

He said, “The structure of governance in Nigeria at both State and Federal levels, is such that the Executive Branch cannot operate successfully on its own. It requires strong legislative cooperation and support too. Therefore, if Peter Obi is sent into Aso Rock without a supportive National Assembly, we run the dire risk of having his government, intended policies, programs and projects being held hostage by hostile political opponents (APC and PDP) bent on thwarting the collective hope and aspirations of Nigerians who want and desire a departure from the status quo.

“This is not time for hoping that legislators from other parties will cross carpet as it used to be when the Executive branch is led by another party. The Electoral Act as amended and recent judicial interpretations have demonstrated that it is no longer business as usual.

“All “Obi-dients” across the nation and worldwide are therefore now put on notice to this urgent, yet impending catastrophe, and must be mobilised to enthrone a Labour Party dominated National Assembly (Senate/House of Representatives), thereby securing our hope for a true government of change from the extremely dangerous security situation in the country, the dilapidation of Infrastructure, demise of our educational system, and uncontrolled decline in our economy and the value of the Naira.

The supremacy tussle plaguing the Abia State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC, is showing no sign of abating as one of the gladiators, and the immediate-past Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uche Ogah, has insisted that he is the authentic Leader of the party in Abia.

Ogah who told Vanguard in Umuahia that without him there was no APC in Abia, accused Emenike’s loyalists of peddling lies in the name of the National Chairman of APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu. سباق خيول

The former Minister who spoke on the heels of a media report after a meeting between Adamu and APC stakeholders from Abia, claimed that the party’s National Chairman never accused him of instigating crisis in the party contrary to media reports.

He accused Emenike’s loyalists who attended the said meeting of misrepresenting the National Chairman in their desperation to malign him and mislead the public.

Adamu was quoted as describing the Abia APC crisis as “the most toxic in the country”, and allegedly criticised Ogah for “leading a dissident group in the party despite a reconciliation at Ntalakwu”.

The National Chairman was also quoted to have advised Ogah “to humble himself and work with the governorship candidate of the APC in Abia, Ikechi Emenike, to ensure victory for the party in the forthcoming 2023 general election”.

Both Ogah and Chief Ikechi Emenike emerged as governorship candidates of the party in a parallel primary, a development that has been a subject of litigation. سباق حصان

While Emenike emerged through indirect primary, Ogah was a product of direct primary.

Ogah insisted that contrary to claims by Emenike’s loyalists in the “misleading media reports”, Adamu never lambasted him but rather told the group at the meeting to return to Abia and settle their differences and never bring Abia matter to Abuja again for settlement.

He further claimed that the group never had audience with the National Chairman himself but the National Vice Chairman South, Chief Emma Enukwu, who “they said stood in for the Chairman.”

The former Minister rather claimed it was Emenike “that the National Chairman lambasted and said that he has been creating problem in Abia APC since 2014”.

His words:” The Chairman tongue-lashed them and said that they should stop coming to Abuja to see him but go home to Abia and campaign and make sure APC is delivered.

”They misinterpreted the National Chairman and peddled lies in his name.

“The so -called committee was a group of people loyal to Emenike because the main APC group which is my group was not part of the committee. So, what are they reconciling?

“They just went to Abuja and ambushed the Chairman and he warned them never to come to Abuja again but go home and do local politics.

“You can’t talk of APC in Abia without me. The Chairman knows this and that is why if he wants to call a meeting he will call me”.

Ogah urged his supporters not to fret but remain unfazed by the media propaganda, expressing optimism that the pending suit in the court will be decided in his favour. 888 كازينو

US-Based Professor Donates $1m To University Of Ibadan College Of Medicine

AN alumnus of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI), MBBS Class of 1985, Dr Philip Ozuah, has donated the sum of $1,000,000 to the new hostel building fund of the college. 

Dr Ozuah, who is based in the United States of America, announced the donation at the second anniversary of the current administration of the first female provost of the college, Professor Olayinka Omigbodun.

According to a statement released by the college and the Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association (ICOMAA) Worldwide, Dr Ozuah, who was a medical school classmate of the college provost, had performed the third and the last activity for the ceremony, which was the keynote lecture entitled ‘From Initiative to Finishiative – An Academic Journey’.

The statement, however, noted that some events that took place at the college recently were misrepresented, especially on the social media.

According to the statement, there was the need to provide an accurate account of the events in view of the unfortunate misinformation that is being disseminated over social media.

It said: “The three-tier set of activities for the day commenced with an opening ceremony in the CoMUI Board Room.

“The first of the commemorative events was the naming of the College Board Room after the second Provost of CoMUI, Professor A.O.K. Johnson.

“The unveiling of the plaque of the newly-named Boardroom was done by Emeritus Professor Oluwole Akande, the Foundation Provost of CoMUI and Pioneer Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH).

“The dignitaries, thereafter, moved from the A.O.K. Johnson Boardroom to the proposed site of a new hostel complex for the sod-turning ceremony, which was the second major event for the day.

“The ceremony of sod-turning and laying of the foundation stone was coordinated by Reverend Sam Omokhodion, a distinguished Professor of Paediatrics and Chaplain for CoMUI and UCH.

“The First foundation stone was laid on behalf of the Pro-Chancellor, His Excellency, Chief John E.K. OdigieOyegun, by his representative, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale FAS, mni.

“The third and the last activity for the day was the inspiring keynote lecture entitled ‘From Initiative to Finishiative – An Academic Journey’, delivered by a Distinguished Alumnus of the Graduating CoMUI MBBS Class of 1985, Philip O. Ozuah MD, PhD.

“Dr Ozuah, a professor of Paediatrics and a multi-award winning medical educator, is the President and CEO of Montefiore Medicine, the umbrella organisation for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Health Systems.

“The keynote speaker, who had accepted to be the Fundraiser-in-Chief for the Students’ Hostel Project, related a truly inspirational story of his journey from his studentship days in the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI) to his present status as President and CEO of Montefiore Medicine which includes Albert Einstein College of Medicine, one of the premier centres for research, medical education and clinical investigation in the United States of America.

“He expressed appreciation for the role of CoMUI in the foundational stages of his career and thanked his supportive wife and children for their contributions to the journey. There was a live audience in the AOK Johnson Board Room, as well as more than 160 students, alumni and staff of CoMUI, and other stakeholders who joined the event from all parts of the world.

“The highly-distinguished alumnus, who was a medical school classmate of the Provost of the College of Medicine, went ahead to make an unprecedented donation of $1,000,000 to the new hostel building fund on behalf of his family, while acknowledging the presence of his wife and children on the Zoom platform, where he delivered the stimulating lecture.”

In a country where economic deficit and unemployment have become the order of the day, conceptualizing a business idea in Nigeria and subsequently starting it can be likened to a goldmine which offers an opportunity for people to tap into a better livelihood.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, has ruled out the possibility of sanctioning the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, over his outbursts against the party’s leadership and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Ayu noted that rather than discipline anyone, the party would focus on uniting its members. He, therefore, appealed to those angry with Wike to sheathe their sword.

The party had been engulfed in internal dispute with many members taking sides with either Atiku or Wike. This was part of the fallout of the party’s presidential primary, which Wike lost to Atiku. The governor was also said to be aggrieved that he was neither chosen as the party’s vice presidential candidate nor consulted on certain issues in the party.

The reported bad blood between Atiku and Wike came to a head when Wike told journalists about a week ago that Atiku told many lies during his interview with Arise TV. He then promised to respond to the lies and speak more about both the party and Atiku.

Meanwhile, speaking at a meeting of the National Working Committee with former National Publicity Secretaries, Zonal/ States Publicity Secretaries, and other stakeholders at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, Ayu said all efforts and resources would rather be channeled towards peace and unity instead of punishing people. Those present at the event included Olisa Metuh.

He was responding to calls by some former national officers who called for the governor to be sanctioned. They argued that refusal to do this would breed indiscipline in the party.

A source at the meeting said, “After the meeting went into a closed-door session, some of the former officers called for sanction to be imposed on Wike because of his utterances. They said he didn’t respect the party’s leadership and its presidential candidate, among other things.

“They even accused the National Publicity Secretary (Debo Ologunagba) of not doing enough to address the issues in his interviews and press releases, but Ayu told them to be patient. The chairman said this is not the time to discipline, expel or quarrel with anyone. Rather, he said this is the time to build, unite and tolerate one another.

“He said he could feel the pulse of those agitating for discipline to be meted out to the governor, but insisted that Wike is a formidable member of the party. He appealed to them to be patient and that the governor would support Atiku and the party.”

In the communiqué released after the meeting by Ologunagba, he said after “a very comprehensive session, the meeting of former and serving spokespersons for the party restated confidence in Ayu and the NWC in running the affairs of the party.”

He noted that the meeting restated “confidence in the capacity, experience, and competence of Atiku to rescue, redirect and rebuild this country to meet the aspirations of Nigerians and earn the respect of the international community.”

Bola Tinubu will run on the template of President Muhammadu Buhari if elected president in 2023, his campaign spokesman Festus Keyamo clarified on Friday.

Tinubu’s associate and former party chairman Adams Oshiomhole had on Thursday sought to extricate Mr Tinubu from the failure of the Buhari regime, claiming his man has not been part of the government.

But Mr Keyamo, a serving junior minister for Labour and Employment said Mr Oshiomhole was misinterpreted by the media.

“It is the same APC template that both leaders (Buhari and Tinubu) that they will use,” Mr Keyamo said in an interview on Channels TV on Friday night.

“I saw one misleading headline from one of the papers yesterday and I laughed. It was misleading, misinterpreting what one of our leaders said. That we were distancing ourselves from the records of Buhari. That is utter nonsense. Like I said, we are proud of the record of the APC.” The APC chieftain said.

The spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, Festus Keyamo, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential Atiku Abubakar is the least candidate out of the three leading presidential candidates in terms of capacity to make decisions.

While appearing on ‘Politics Today’, a political programme on Channels TV on Friday, Mr ]Keyamo said the former vice president has never held any executive position where the buck stops with him, whereas, the candidate of his party, Bola Tinubu, and their Labour Party opponent, Peter Obi, are ahead because of their experiences as former governors of Lagos and Anambra states, respectively.

Mr Keyamo, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, said Mr Obi is “ahead of him (Mr Atiku) in terms of capacity to make decisions. So how are we going to hand the country to somebody who has never held a position—who has never shown capacity where he makes the final call. Atiku Abubakar is not tested, he is not trusted. He has never held such a position, even Obi is ahead of him.”

“The major rival we have today has never held an executive position where he makes the final call in government. So, we cannot second guess—Atiku Abubakar has never held an executive position where he made the final call; he was the vice president, he was not the chief executive, he was never governor, he was never anything. Even Peter Obi is ahead of Atiku Abubakar,” he said.

 

Two Police Officers, Indian Expatriate Killed, Others kidnapped In Ajaokuta, Kogi State

Gunmen Kidnap CAN Chairman In Plateau

Five persons have been killed while three other foreigners were kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State.

It was gathered that two Police Officers, an Indian expatriate, a driver and one other person were killed.

The incident, according to sources happened Friday night at about 7:30pm when the victims were returning from the West African Ceramics located in Ajaokuta.

A source said, ” It is another black day for us in Ajaokuta. We are still mourning the killings of seven officers, and the kidnap of three children. Now another tragic incident has happened again.

“The deceased and kidnapped victims were going back to their Niger bridge estate before they were ambushed. They work with West African Ceramics. The Police officers exchanged gunfire with the criminals but unfortunately, two of them were killed alongside an Indian man, a driver and one other person inside the vehicle. The name of the driver is Muhammed. Also, three foreigners have been taken to the bush by these unidentified gunmen”.

Efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) in Kogi State, William Ovye Aya proved abortive at the time of filing this report.

The latest attack in Ajaokuta is coming a few days after unidentified gunmen killed two Police officers and five vigilante men in Jada Bassa area of Kogi State.

Similarly, on Wednesday 3rd August 2022, unknown gunmen stormed Kaduna Estate in Ajaokuta Steel Complex and kidnapped three children.

The kidnappers are still demanding N100m before releasing their victims.

Southern Kaduna Youths Assures Of Working For Justice, Fairness, Equity

Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), youth wing, has assured that the union will remain non-partisan and committed to the struggles for justice, fairness and equality.

John Isaac, the national youth leader in a statement issued on Saturday in Kaduna said, “SOKAPU shall not be a politically and religiously partisan organisation, our great union remains non-partisan, unbiased and a neutral socio-cultural platform committed to the struggles of Justice, fairness and equality for the hard-working, peace-loving people of Southern Kaduna.”

While assuring the new leadership of SOKAPU led by Mr Dio Maisamari of its support to succeed, the youth wing urged it not to deviate from its ideals of aggregating, promoting and articulating the Southern Kaduna interest.

“The Youth Wing is confident that with Mr Dio as President, the Union will not deviate from its ideals of aggregating, promoting and articulating the Southern Kaduna interest,” the statement opined.

It assured that its doors are widely open to all well-meaning individuals, groups, and political parties in and across the state and the nation at large.

On the outgoing National President, Jonathan Asake, the youth wing wished him the best in his future endeavour.

The group assured members of the public that the youth wing shall continue to conform with the constitution, subject to the provisions of Section 8 and the provisions of the Union’s Charter, not to be politically and religiously partisan.

Unknown Gunmen Invade Police Station, Kill Officers, Burn Vehicles Again In Imo

Gunmen wreaking havoc in the Southeastern part of the country have attacked the Agwa Divisional Police headquarters in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo state, killing at least four officers.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Friday night when the assailants invaded the area shooting sporadically before gaining access into the station.

According to a police source who confirmed the incident to reporters on Saturday, the incident has triggered tension in the entire local government.

He said the gunmen burnt some vehicles in the station and destroyed other valuable items.

“There was an attack in the station and we learnt that about four officers were killed. The total damage cannot be ascertained at the moment”, he said.

Efforts by reporters to reach the state Police Command proved abortive as the Public Relations Officer, Micheal Abattam did not take his calls.

A socio-political group, Abia North Peace Foundation (ANPF), has berated a factional governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Ikechi Emenike for accusing the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of anti-party activities.

Emenike had through a faceless group, Abia Rescue Movement accused Kalu of sponsoring another party, Action People’s Party (APP) and its governorship candidate, Mascot Uzor Kalu.

But ANPF described the claim as not only untrue but one calculated to mislead Nigerians, especially those who live outside Abia who may not be conversant with the realities on the ground.

In a statement issued by the Media Office of the group signed by Chief Nnanna Ukaegbu, President and Hon Ebere Ibekwe, Secretary General, ANPF noted that contrary to the claim by Emenike and his co-travellers, all the issues that reduced APC’s popularity in Abia were caused by Emenike and his group.

“Emenike and his gang destabilized Abia APC by chasing away popular and credible leaders like Mascot Uzor Kalu, Alex Otti, Etigwe Uwa (SAN), Acho Obioma, Dr. Otuka, Amobi Ogah and others.

“It was people like Orji Kalu, Ogah and elected members that made APC a popular party in Abia through the number of projects they attracted. But Emenike connived with PDP members who hailed him as the man with 5-G network to destabilise the party. Where is the 5-G network today? Or is he having “low battery”?

“Emenike is a divisive and shameless mole; treacherous, dubious and wicked politician that shouldn’t be taken seriously by any reasonable person.

“It is shocking the level of impunity with which Emenike and his co-travellers tried to misrepresent clear narratives just to assassinate the character and distort the reputation of Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor kalu.

“We were all in All Progressives Congress Prior to 2022 and were contributing in our individual capacities to the growth of the party. While we fought for the growth of the party, Chief Ikechi Emenike constituted himself into an agent of division and instability in the party. He was so recalcitrant that a disagreement that cost the party an opportunity to win the seat of government of Abia State in 2019 ensued between him and his army of outlaws in the party, and the then executive committee of the party in the state led by Chief Donatus Nwankpa.

“Chief Ikechi Emenike became such an embarrassment to the the All Progressives Congress to the extent that the then national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshomole had to during his speech at Umuahia township stadium in the buildup to the 2019 election described him as a mole in the party. Comrade Adams Oshomole before the entirety of the crowd of APC supporters laid a curse on Chief Emenike that his life will be filled with troubles as he has made himself a source of trouble for the All Progressives Congress.

“It is obvious that Chief Ikechi Emenike’s life is today filled with so much troubles that he is now going about looking for who to engage in unwarranted attacks.

“Much as Senator Orji Uzor kalu and Hon. Mascot Uzor Kalu are brothers, their political lives and destinies are not tied to each other. Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has his political dreams to pursue as much as Hon. Mascot has his to pursue, and the decision on the platform on which to pursue such dreams remains their individual exclusive preserve.

“Ikechi Emenike, the executive mole planted to destabilise the APC should stop attacking Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and face his failed governorship ambition,” the group said.
