Former aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan, Pastor Reno Omokri, Sunday said that the former governor of Anambra of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi is an excellent candidate
Reno stated this via his verified Twitter handle. According to him Obi is an excellent candidate but the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar is better.
He urged people to support whoever they want and still respect each other.
His words: “I love Obidients, because they love #RenosNuggets. But I am voting for Atiku Abubakar. It does not mean Peter Obi is not an excellent candidate. He is.
“Just that Atiku is a better candidate in my opinion. We can all support who we want and still respect each other.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo had in an interview with ChannelsTv said that Obi is more experienced in governance than the former Vice President Atiku.
He said Mr Peter Obi is “ahead of him (Mr Atiku) in terms of capacity to make decisions. So how are we going to hand the country to somebody who has never held a position—who has never shown capacity where he makes the final call. Atiku Abubakar is not tested, he is not trusted. He has never held such a position, even Obi is ahead of him.
“The major rival we have today has never held an executive position where he makes the final call in government. So, we cannot second guess—Atiku Abubakar has never held an executive position where he made the final call; he was the vice president, he was not the chief executive, he was never governor, he was never anything. Even Peter Obi is ahead of Atiku Abubakar.”

The Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP, Southwest Zone, has lamented the backlog of pensions and gratuity owed its members by governors.
According to the pensioners, most of the state governors in the zone have no regard for them.
Speaking in Lagos State during the body’s zonal meeting, the Chairman, Southwest Zone of NUP, Waheed Oloyede, decried the attitude of some states’ chief executives to yield to the plight of pensioners, while pleading with the governors to increase pensions in their various states, pay regularly and as at when due.
According to Oloyede, some pensioners were still receiving as low as N5,000 monthly.
He said: “Nigerian constitution provides increase in pension every five years and whenever salaries of workers are increased, that of pensioners should also increase. We have discovered that only the federal government is fulfilling the promise, but the states are not.
“The consequential increase in the pension that was approved by the federal government in 2019 was not implemented in many states. We are using the opportunity of this meeting to appeal to all the governors that have not implemented the increase to do so without any further delay.”
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo says it’s only in heaven that there will be no security breach.
Keyamo said this while defending President Muhammadu Buhari government’s efforts to resolve insecurity in the nation.
According to him, the APC government did not promise there would be no insecurity, but promised to provide an adequate response in tackling insecurity which they’ve delivered so far.
Speaking on Channels Tv, Keyamo said: “It is only in heaven that there will be no security breach at all and we have not arrived in heaven and are still on earth so there must be a security breach.
“There are jailbreaks in America but that doesn’t mean the government has failed.
“We didn’t promise that insecurity will not happen, we promised response; last week, we killed those in the bushes in Abuja. Abuja is safe now, there’s no incident around the bushes of Abuja now.
“We promised response and we’ve delivered well. People should not engage in scaremongering, the bandits just want to scare Nigerians, that’s their oxygen, they want to create panic
“When you don’t give them that fear or panic, they go away.”
As a result of the meeting between the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, a 14-member panel has been set up to consult and make recommendations which both men will consider.
A top party source familiar with the development informed Sunday Vanguard that the membership of the panel was yet to be made public because some of them had yet to be officially informed.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media, explained that the panel is expected to take off with “immediate effect.”
The PDP has been enmeshed in crisis since Atiku picked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running mate for the 2023 election.
The development went contrary to the thinking in some quarters that Wike was the natural choice after he placed second in the primary which produced Atiku as a presidential candidate.
Only two weeks ago, Atiku and Wike exchanged hot words over the running mate issue.
This led to the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting which attempted to broker a truce.
“We’ve made appreciable progress within the last 24 hours following the meeting between our presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike”, the source said.
“The meeting, which took the enemies of our party by surprise, has brought down tension and restored hope about a speedy resolution of what our opponents consider as a major conflict.“
Asked which conditions have been given and what concessions have been made, the source said, “The issue of conditions did not arise when both men set aside their differences and spoke to each other frankly.
“Their followers will definitely take a cue from this and fall in line. What is now on ground is seeking a way forward.
“The recommendations, which the 14-member committee make, will be considered and action taken. I can assure you that the campaign council will follow through afterward.”
In response to questions from newsmen on the crisis within the party, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, expressed confidence that all outstanding issues will soon to resolved.
He said, “The PDP is a very large family and like most human families there are issues but I’m glad to inform you that we have organs, processes, and procedures for resolving our issues.
“We are not like the sinking All Progressives Congress, I don’t recall a meeting by their Board of Trustees, our BoT just met and have set up a committee to mediate between our candidate and Governor Wike.”

Emergence of a Governor of Abia State from the Isiala Ngwa area is vital for Abia State to achieve a political stability, equity, justice and fairness, says the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu
The governor says the emergence of a Governor from the other half of Abia Central was in accordance with the spirit and letters of the Abia Charter of Equity which was entered into in 1981 between the old Umuahia and Aba Senatorial Zones with the recognition of Isuikwuato as a District.
According to the Governor, while the old Umuahia Senatorial Zone represents the entire old Bende of today covering the entire Abia North Senatorial District and the Umuahia half of Abia Central, the old Aba Senatorial Zone represents the entire Old Aba Division covering today’s Abia South Senatorial District and the Ngwa half of Abia Central, a release by his chief press secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka quoted.
Gov. Ikpeazu spoke when he received a delegation of the representatives of the leaders of the people of Isiala Ngwa North LGA led by the Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, Hrm Eze Joseph Nwabeke at the Governor’s Lodge Aba.
The statement read in part, “The Governor noted that while the old Umuahia Senatorial Zone has produced two consecutive Governors spanning 16 straight years, the old Aba Senatorial Zone is just about completing their initial 8 years, and as such it is only just for the old Aba Zone to take another shot at the Governorship seat to bring it at par with their brothers from old Umuahia zone, adding that the choice of a running mate from the old Isuikwuato District which is today’s Isuikwuato and Umunneochi LGAs puts the Abia Charter of Equity in full swing.
“Governor Ikpeazu noted that the election of his successor from Isiala Ngwa in 2023 will pave the way for the completion of the full swing of the Charter of Equity allowing the rotation to commence again from Abia North, thereby giving every known section of the State a proper sense of belonging.
“He stated that the choice of Professor Uche Ikonne was as a result of his proven track record of experience in administration and public service, and tasked the people of Isiala Ngwa North LGA to seize this great historical opportunity, expressing confidence in the ability of Professor Ikonne to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Abia State.
“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu also explained that while Osisioma Ngwa LGA was part of Abia Central, it was impracticable and unjust for his successor to come from Osisioma Ngwa because Osisioma Ngwa and Obingwa are in the same Federal Constituency. According to him, getting his successor from Osisioma Ngwa is akin to getting his successor from Obingwa, his own Local Government.
“The Governor said that no other equation will justly provide an equitable explanation to the question of management of power rotation in the State and appealed to the people of Abia State to elect Professor Ikonne as the next Governor of Abia State.
“He thanked the people of Isiala Ngwa North LGA for their consistent support to his administration assuring them that he has enjoyed the unparalleled support of their sons and daughters who work with him in his Government.
“Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation and Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Joseph Nwabeke told the Governor that the people of Isiala Ngwa North are grateful to him for his warm and positive disposition towards the people of Isiala Ngwa North and assured him that since the PDP has chosen their candidate from there, the people will do the needful. He noted that the Governor has left enduring legacies in the administration of the State.
“Also speaking for each of the 4 clans in Isiala Ngwa North LGA – Ntigha, Ngwaukwu, Nsulu and Nwaoha, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Okey Ahiwe, the Commissioner for Local Governmentand Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt Hon Prince Christopher Enweremadu, Commissioner for Works, Barrister Bob Chiedozie Ogu and Chief Gaius Anyanwu told the Governor that the people of Isiala Ngwa North fully understand the challenge facing them in the 2023 elections and assured that they will rise to the challenge and ensure that the candidature of Professor Ikonne will record an unassailable victory in the area. They assured further that no sensible indigene of Isiala Ngwa North LGA will trade the Governorship position for any other political position in 2023. They expressed confidence in the ability of Professor Ikonne to deliver the goods and consolidate on the foundations laid by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. They thanked the Governor for finding several of their sons worthy of high and strategic offices in his administration.
“They appealed to other parts of the State to support Professor Ikonne’s ambition as it is just and equitable.
“Also speaking, the Gubernatorial Candidate of the PDP, Professor Uche Ikonne thanked the Governor for laying strong foundations in the administration of the State and assured that when elected, he will build on those foundations and work towards uniting the entire state and improving the lot of people of Abia State.
“Executive Chairman of Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Hon. Chinwendu Ochulor who gave the vote of thanks expressed the gratitude of the entire people of Isiala Ngwa North LGA to the Governor and assured that they will work towards an overwhelming victory for the PDP in the 2023 elections.
“The delegation included traditional rulers representing the 4 clans of Isiala Ngwa North, members of the State Executive Council from the area and other Frontline political stakeholders including former and serving public office holders, including the candidate of the PDP for the State House of Assembly in Isiala Ngwa North, Mr. Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu.”
