A late wonder strike from Esther Onyenezide earned Nigeria’s Falconets a hard fought 1-0 win against South Korea in their second Group C game at the FIFA U-20 women’s World Cup in Sunday.

With the tight contest heading for a goalless draw, Onyenezide got the winner to secure the Falconets’ second win of the tournament.

It is now a third consecutive win for the Falconets against South Korea in the history of the U-20 women’s World Cup.

The coach Christopher Danjuma-tutored side will face Canada in their final group game on Wednesday by 3am Nigerian time.

Just like the their first game against France, the Falconets saw their fixture versus South Korea billed to kickoff at 9pm shifted to 10.15pm due to heavy rain.

The game eventually commenced with the Falconets creating the first attempt on goal in the third minute through Bashirat Amoo, who tried a long range effort from a free kick but was calmly saved by keeper Kim Kyeong-Hee.

Four minutes later South Korea went close but
Chun Ga-Ram’s effort went wide.

In the 22nd minute the Koreans went on the attack again with Lee Soo-In hitting a long range strike but the ball hit woodwork.

With four minutes left in the first half, Amoo made an ambitious long range strike which went off target.

Five minutes into the second half Onyenezide tried a long cross into the area on the back of a pouring attack but South Korea keeper rose high to claim the ball.

Just three minutes later Onyenezide forced the Korean keeper to a save with her superb long range effort.

In the 64th minute Korea went close but Oyono made a superb diving save to palm a shot destined for the top corner away for a corner.

And in the 82nd minute the goal finally came thanks to a brilliant long range strike from Onyenezide which flew past the Korean keeper and nestled into the back of the net.

The Koreans pour forward for the equalizer but could not break down a resilient Falconets defence.

Ndume Commends Tinubu's Commitment on Tackling Nigeria’s Insecurity
Senator Ali Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume has said the Nigerian Army is finding it difficult to solve security challenges in different parts of the country because it doesn’t have the modern equipment required to fight terrorism. لعبه روليت

Ali Ndume disclosed this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

He said, “I will say it again, the purpose of government is security and welfare of the citizens. The Nigerian Army doesn’t have the number. They don’t have the equipment; they don’t have the technology that is required to solve or handle these challenges we have.

“The earlier we prioritise this seriously and even declare a kind of state of emergency in the areas of security and welfare of citizens the better for us because that is what the government is all about. 888 sport

“The constitution is very clear that the purpose of government is security and welfare of its citizens. The earlier the government and people of Nigeria in all the arms of government concentrate on making sure that our country is secure and our citizens welfare is taken care of, the better for us.

“I will say again that Nigerian army I know is up to the task if given what they need. ربح المال And if they are given what they need, they should be given a timeline.”

He said terrorists released the victims of the Kaduna-bound train attack because they were settled.

He added, “As for the action taken by the army, that is an action expected of them but that goes to show in total that if the army has the number, the modern equipment that they require, they can tackle this problem within the shortest possible time.”

China’s army will put an end to outside forces’ plans to interfere in China’s domestic political affairs and will also foil separatists’ attempts to break away from Taiwan, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said on Monday, commenting on the visit of a US Congress delegation to the island.

“The People’s Liberation Army of China will continue to conduct drills to prepare for combat operations, we will resolutely defend our country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the spokesman said in a distributed statement, “We will crush Taiwanese separatists by all means and foil all foreign forces’ attempts to interfere.”

A US Congress delegation led by Senator Ed Markey (a member of Democratic party, Massachusetts) arrived on Sunday evening for a two-day visit to Taiwan. According to the island’s foreign ministry, the delegation included five politicians from the Democratic and Republican parties.

The Chinese government has repeatedly stated that Pelosi’s trip to Taipei on August 2 and 3 was a provocation that should be seen as “the wrong signal to Taiwan separatists.” A day after that visit, Beijing authorities imposed sanctions on the House Speaker and her family, and froze several bilateral intergovernmental mechanisms for interaction with Washington.

Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949, when the remnants of the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) fled there after their defeat in the Chinese Civil War. Since then it retains the flag and some other attributes of the former Republic of China, which existed on the mainland before the Communists came to power. According to China’s official position, supported by most countries, including Russia, the island is one of the Chinese provinces.

Nnamdi Kanu: Aloy Ejimakor Asks FG To Set Aside Proscription Of IPOB, Release Leader After Court Ruling

Summon Courage To Put Nigeria To A Vote, Nnamdi Kanu’s Counsel Challenges Buhari

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu’s special counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor has demanded that the federal government should reverse the proscription of the group.

He also asked that President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration should release Kanu since Abia High Court has ruled in his favour.

In September 2017, the president designated the separatist group an outlawed organisation. The security operatives also invaded Kanu’s house in Afaraukwu which led to his escape in which some are feared dead.

However, Justice Benson Anya of the Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia state, ruled that the federal government should release Kanu and compensate him.

Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021, and has been facing charges at Federal High Court, Abuja before Justice Binta Nyako.

On Sunday morning, Ejimakor wrote on his Twitter page on both Kanu and his separatist group.

He said: “When you declared a group that represents millions a terrorist group and every nation in the world disagreed with you, reverse it. When you renditioned and detained a man just because he’s gutsy and Abia High Court and United Nations disagreed with you, release him. Yes FreeMNK now.”

Speaking to Ejimakor on his call on the government, he insisted that, “It is manifest injustice for the Abuja court to have ignored the Umuahia judgment and still hold that Kanu jumped bail.

“It means that the Nigerian government which forced Kanu out of Nigeria is judicially allowed to benefit from its own wrong of compelling him to flee from Nigeria. This cannot happen elsewhere except in Nigeria.”

At 80: Ohanaeze Ndigbo Celebrates Prof Obiozor

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide joins the entire Igbo both at home and in the Diaspora in celebrating an accomplished erudite reflective scholar, renowned author, seasoned diplomat, resourceful administrator, cultural leviathan, political submarine, pathfinder, and an Igbo Titan of incredible global reckoning, His Excellency, Ambassador Professor George Obiozor (Ugwumba) the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide as he clocks 80 on August 15, 2022.

It is a common knowledge that the birth of every child is an epiphany of hope wrapped in a canvass of diverse possibilities. As hard as parents may strive for an upward social mobility of the child, it takes the spark of God to twang the transcendental cord that excites the critical elements in the child for self-awakening.

Thus while his peers at a very early age floundered, Obiozor pursued his life vision with incandescent passion, prudence, diligence, and honour. Armed with a Ph.D. in International Affairs from the Columbia University, USA, Obiozor taught in several foreign universities and attained the enviable rank of a Professor. He also served Nigeria in several capacities with neither tarnish nor blemish. Some of the positions he held in Nigeria include; the director-general of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs; High Commissioner to Cyprus; Nigerian Ambassador to the State of Israel; Nigerian Ambassador to the United States; among others.

As the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Obiozor has displayed an uncommon intellect, irrepressible courage, candor, tolerance, large heart and equanimity; a man who has sacrificed his personal comfort in the service of Igbo nation. What stands Obiozor out among his peers is his unique intellectual wizardry, profound sense of humour, extraordinary creative imagination, rationality, clear-headedness, unwavering determination with which he pursues his views, even in most hostile or complex circumstances.

Obiozor has for over five decades shown an unassailable commitment to Igbo cause. His eloquent speeches and relentless advocacy for a Nigerian president of the South East extraction has assumed an irreversible, unquenchable, and irresistible national charm, resonance, and unprecedented crescendo. It is worthy of note that when the chronicle of Igbo personages will be launched, some leaders will appear in footnotes while some chapters will be devoted to Ambassador Professor George Obiozor.

Ugwumba, please note that Ndigbo all over the world are very proud of you. They are glad that their father-figure has attained the highly coveted eight floor in sound mind; hale, hearty and as fit as a fiddle. It is our prayer that the Almighty God will grant you many more years in robust health to fully harvest the fruit of your selfless service to humanity.

Igbo Elders Condemn Killings In Imo, South East, Fault Position Of NEF

Some concerned Igbo elders have condemned in strong terms, recent cases of criminality in Imo State and other parts of South East, resulting in the death of innocent citizens.

To this end, they have called on perpetrators of such acts to desist from their wicked tendencies or face the wrath of God and the people.

The elders, who operate under the umbrella of the Conference of Igbo Elders for Peace and Development, CIED, said that while collaboration with security agencies on ways to stop killings in Imo State in particular, and the South East, in general was ongoing, their attention was drawn to a statement issued by the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, imputing ethnic agenda into the condemnable acts.

It will be recalled that the NEF, through its spokesperson, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, had expressed concerns over what it said was the alleged ‘profiling’ of Northerners in parts of the South.

NEF”s statement had read in part: “We are deeply concerned over rising cases of profiling, targeting and killings of Northerners in many parts of the South. The recent murder of Nigerians in Imo State, apparently on suspicion that they were Northerners, is one incident among many recent ones that involve harassment, illegal arrests, attacks and killings of Nigerians from the North.

“The impression that Northerners are fair game for groups and organisations in the South is forcing Northerners to exercise their rights to travel and live peacefully in any part of Nigeria, only under great danger and fear. This is intolerable and unacceptable.

“The forum demands that governments, communities, and law enforcement agencies protect northerners living in the South.

“It demands clear and emphatic condemnation from leaders, elders, and communities who understand that the welfare and security of all citizens are vulnerable to the degree that other citizens are unsafe in certain parts of the country.

“We serve notice that the North will use the degree to which contestants for political office speak in clear terms in condemnation of these attacks on northerners as a yardstick for our support of candidates and parties.

“While we appeal to all communities to live in peace with each other, we also demand that killers who target northerners are found and punished.”

In a measured response, however, the Igbo elders expressed regret that their counterparts in the North could descend to such a pedestrian level as to make claims of the targeted killing of their kith-and-kin in the South.

“While conceding the right to freedom of expression, especially as it concerns the interest of individuals and groups, we hasten to advise people of goodwill to, at all material times, be circumspect and patriotic on sensitive issues such as the subject matter of the press statement.”

In a statement, yesterday, jointly signed by its National President, Mazi Festus Edochie, and National Secretary, Mrs Esther Amadi, the CIEPD insisted that, contrary to attempts to foist ethnic agenda on the incidents in Imo State, and some parts of the South East, the killings are purely acts of criminality that know no ethnicity, tribe, religion, or political inclination.

“Without mincing words, we condemn the killings witnessed in Imo State, and some parts of Igbo land, even as we have continued our advocacy and sensitization against acts of criminality and barbarism, in whatever guise.

“We also condemn attempts by the Northern Elders Forum, through its spokesman, Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed, to suggest ethnic profiling, and targeting of Northerners in a case of pure criminality”, the statement read in part.

Continuing, the South East elders warned individuals and groups in the country against actions and tendencies that possess the capacity to exacerbate ethnic tensions, maintaining that Nigeria could not afford another tension at this time of national crisis, occasioned by growing insecurity, excruciating poverty, biting hunger, and general economic woes

People of the community also assured him of their support in the upcoming 2023 election in ensuring he is re-elected into senate.

Those Seeking Inibehe Effiong’s Release Ignorant — Former Akwa Ibom Attorney-General

ECOWAS Army: Tinubu Lacks Constitutional Authority – Inibehe Effiong
Inibehe-Effiong

The former Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, in Akwa Ibom State, Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN, has said those demanding the release of Lagos State based Lawyer, Inibehe Effiong from prison are acting in absolute ignorance.

Nwoko who made the remark weekend during an interview in Uyo, stressed that people should know that it is only the Court of appeal that could either affirm or set aside the conviction, noting that collecting one billion signatures could set aside the conviction.

He expressed disappointment over Effiong’s lack of respect for the bench, noting that if he feels dissatisfied with his conviction that the right thing he should do as a Lawyer was to go to court of appeal to seek redress.

His words: “I condemn the purported actions of certain persons who go round making noise about the conviction. If Inibehe is dissatisfied with his conviction the right thing to do, as a Lawyer is to go to appeal and seek redress. You cannot come back to the court that convicted him and ask that court to set aside its decision.

” The State Chief Judge having convicted him, has given the final decision on the matter. That matter is closed before her. It is only the court of appeal that will now take a second look at the matter and either affirm the conviction, or set it aside.

“So those who go round in the Streets, saying they are collecting signatures to demand for Inibehe’s release are acting in absolute ignorance. A million, or one billion signatures cannot set aside the conviction.

“If they like they can live in the social media from morning till night and stay there for ten years, they will not be able to set aside the decision of the court given by a court of competent jurisdiction.

“Let them stop spreading very toxic and infectious ignorance around the Streets. That kind of ignorance those people are spreading, including the NBA is corrosive ignorance and it is condemnable. They should not spread such in the public space”

Nwoko explained that it was not within the power of the protesters to argue in the Streets or in the pages of Newspapers, on television or radio whether the CJ was wrong or right in that conviction.

He stressed that also only the Court of appeal could say whether the Chief Judge was wrong or right, saying: “And it is very sad that even the Nigerian Bar Association and people who ought to know better are joining in that very uninformed line of argument.

“And I want to condemn in its entirety and without any equivocation the unethical conduct of Inibehe Effiong who has carved a very unenviable image for himself as a Lawyer who does not have respect for the bench and lacks ethics of the profession.

” I have had the privilege of speaking with His Lordship the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, on the very unbecoming and condemnable conduct of Inibehe who went to the Chief Judge’s court just to do a case as any other Lawyer, but refused to behave like a Lawyer”

Recall that the Akwa Ibom State CJ, Justice Ekaette Obot had on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 committed Effiong to one month in prison for alleged contempt.

2023: Fear Grips Abia PDP As Ikechi Emenike Names Campaign DG, Orders Ruling Party To Prepare Handover Note

Hours After Winning Abia APC Guber Ticket, Court Sacks Ikechi Emenike
Ikechi Emenike

There are indications that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Abia State is currently gripped in fear of uncertainty as the main opposition political party in the state, APC and its factional governorship candidate, Ikechi Emenike has unveiled its campaign Director General ahead of the 2023 governorship election.

Emenike on Sunday named former Chairman of Ohafia Local Government Area, Chief Ogboso, as the Director General of his Campaign Organisation.

Chief Emenike while unveiling the campaign DG in his Umuahia country home, gave quit notice to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The APC governorship candidate, who decried the dilapidation in the state accused PDP-led administation of under-developing Abia.

Emenike enjoined all progressive Abians to join hands with him to salvage the state from “the hands of locusts”.

He said that Abia’s were fed up with the PDP and were yelling for a change which, according to him, will be offered by the APC.

“There is no going back until we reach government house and rescue this state from perpetrators of bad governance,” he said.

Chief Emenike promised to run “a robust and issue-based campaign devoid of rancour and character assassination.”

On his choice of Chief Ogboso as campaign DG, Emenike said it was based on his track record as “a veteran and decent politician”.

The event was witnessed by APC state leadership and the House of Assembly candidates of the party among other party faithful.

In a remarks, the National Welfare Officer of APC, Mr. Friday Nwosu, declared that the looming “revolution in Abia” would consume the ruling APC.

“We have been here since 1999 and we know the people that have kept Abia in this mess. We must reject them. We are in a state of revolution,” he said.

“Abia is bleeding; Abia is in a state of decay. And we can’t pretend that all is well,” the APC national officer added.

He called on all well meaning Abians to join hands with APC and its governorship candidate to enthrone the elusive good governance in Abia.

In his acceptance the newly appointed campaign DG, Chief Ogboso said that he was honoured with the responsibility assigned to him in the quest to build a new Abia.

“We shall work together with the party at the state and national levels and move in one accord to achieve victory for our party in 2023,” he said.

Chief Ogboso told PDP members to start preparing their hand over note
