The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Doguwa, on Sunday, described the Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, as responsible for an enduring peace in the state, in compliance with his oath of office as its Chief Security Officer.

“To date, amidst the turbulence in some states of the federation, Kano remains among the most peaceful states nationwide, as the Governor is always proactive to security issues, hence the peace and harmony the state is enjoying to this moment.”

Doguwa made the submission in Kano, while Kano Citizens Forum were honouring distinguished citizens of Kano State extraction, alongside other leaders, who had immensely contributed to the socio-economic development of the entire country, at the Amani Events Centre, which attracted dignitaries from far and near.

According to him, the synergy of the state Governor with different security agencies domiciled in the state is attributable to the peace the state has been and is still enjoying, adding that the Governor regularly holds security meetings with Security Chiefs towards ensuring a sustainable peace in the state.

“Security of lives and property in Kano State, irrespective of tribe or religion, among others, is of topmost priority to Governor Ganduje, that is why Ganduje ensures that security operatives are often deployed to churches every Sunday to provide security to Christians, while worshipping.”

“Among Governors, only Ganduje has achieved zero tension in banditry and security, as Kano citizens sleep at night with their both eyes shut, and not one eye closed and the other open.”

Among those honoured include the outgoing State Commissioner of Police, Suma’ila Dikko, the outgoing  Three Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Nicodemus, KAROTA CEO/Consumer Protection Council boss, Bappa Agundi, for his outstanding contribution in instilling discipline in chaotic Kano roads, as well as in checkmating substandard and fake goods in Kano.

Others are: Minister of State for Housing and Works, Umar El-Yakub; outgoing Kano Nigerian Immigration Service Comptroller, Mu’azu Abdulrazaq.

Danagundi, on the occasion, challenged those opposing Ganduje to secure loan to procure CCTV cameras as myopic, stressing that it was to ensure an insecurity-free Kano State.

Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry Department of North American Affairs Director-General Douglas Hsu welcomes US Representatives Alan Lowenthal, John Garamendi, Don Beyer and Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen at Songshan Airport in Taipei

China’s military said it conducted combat alert patrols and military drills in the waters and airspace around Taiwan on Monday, a day after the arrival of a US congressional delegation to Taipei.

The exercises are “a solemn response to political plays by the US and Taiwan that are undermining the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait,” Senior Col. Shi Yi of the Eastern Theater Command was quoted as saying on the command’s official Weibo account. “We will take all necessary measures and resolutely defend national sovereignty and the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait.”
Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense said 30 Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) warplanes and five vessels were detected in the Taiwan Strait on Monday.
A US congressional delegation led by Sen. Ed Markey arrived in Taipei on Sunday for a previously unannounced two-day visit that came on the heels of a trip from US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi earlier this month.
Pelosi’s visit, the first from a sitting speaker in 25 years, angered Beijing, which responded by launching significant multi-day military exercises around Taiwan.
China’s military said last Wednesday that it had “successfully completed” those exercises, but pledged to “regularly conduct” more patrols in the direction of the Taiwan Strait.
China’s ruling Chinese Communist Party views Taiwan as part of its territory, despite having never controlled it, and has long vowed to “reunify” the island with the Chinese mainland, by force if necessary.
Markey’s five-member delegation visited the self-governed island in an effort to “reaffirm the United States’ support for Taiwan” and to “encourage stability and peace across the Taiwan Strait,” a spokesperson for the senator said in a statement.
At their Monday meeting, Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen thanked the delegation for visiting at a “key moment” and for demonstrating their support for Taiwan with action.
This is what worries Taiwan’s FM the most about China 01:11
Tsai said that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has highlighted the threat to the world order by authoritarian regimes, and that China’s recent military drills around the island have “severely disrupted” regional peace and stability.
“Taiwan not only worked closely with our international friends, keeping close tabs on all military movements around us, but also kept conveying to the world our resolve to maintain the status quo in the Taiwan strait,” the president said.
Tsai added that Taiwan wishes to “further deepen our cooperation with the US and jointly maintain prosperity and stability in the Indo Pacific region. In the face of global authoritarian expansionism, Taiwan also wishes to deepen trade relations with like-minded democracies, and create a more resilient supply chain.”
In response, Markey praised Tsai for her leadership, saying that he is “honored” to “stand next to Tsai and stand with Taiwan,” according to the statement from the president office.
“In such uncertain times, we have to exert more efforts to ensure Taiwan’s peace and stability. We have a moral obligation to actively prevent any unnecessary conflicts. In responding to this greatest challenge, Taiwan showed unbelievable restraint and discretion,” Markey said.
Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu also thanked the delegation for their visit after hosting the group at the Foreign Ministry on Monday.
“Authoritarian #China can’t dictate how democratic #Taiwan makes friends, wins support, stays resilient & shines like a beacon of freedom,” Wu wrote in a post on the ministry’s Twitter account.
In a statement Monday, China’s Defense Ministry called the congressional delegation’s trip an “ambush visit” that “violates China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The military drills by its Eastern Theater Command were a “solemn deterrent” of “collusion and provocation” by the US and Taiwan, said spokesperson Wu Qian.
Beijing’s Foreign Ministry also decried the congressional visit in a regular news briefing Monday.
Spokesperson Wang Wenbin said China urges the US to “not cause further damage to Sino-US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.”
“China will take resolute and strong measures to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Wang said.

Kwara Crash: Nine Of Our Members Killed, 450 Cows Stolen — Cattle Dealers

Yobe Cattle Market Faces Crisis Following Tax Increase

Chairman of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), Kwara State chapter, Ali Mohammed Jounwiro, has said nine people were killed while 450 cows got lost during the clash with the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) on Friday.

Some OPC members and cattle dealers clashed at Ajase Ipo market in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara.

Speaking with Daily Trust on Sunday night, Jounwiro alleged that over N6 million was stolen by the OPC members in the clash.

He called on the state government and other relevant bodies to do everything possible to ensure the culprits are brought to justice.

Governor Abduldulrahman Abdulrazaq visited the market on Saturday and assured the Fulani community that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

Spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Ajayi Okasanmi, told our correspondent that no arrest had been made.

But reacting to the GAFDAN chairman accusation, the Kwara State Coordinator of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Comrade Ganiyu Oladipupo, said his members were not part of the crisis.

He described as arrant lie the allegation of Jounwiro that the OPC killed nine cattle dealers.

Oladipupo said the crisis had started earlier between Yoruba and the Fulani in the town before the attack on the OPC members that were returning from Osun Osogbo festival.

“The Fulani transferred their usual aggressions to the OPC, when a stray cow in the Kaara market along the road damaged the side mirror of one of the 20 vehicles conveying our members that were returning from Osun Osogbo festival.”

“Knowing that the buses conveying our members have been stuck in the gridlock, the Fulani Cow-dealers deliberately attacked the bus with various weapons. The reports, according to the Kwara state police spokesperson, Okasanmi Ajayi showed clearly that the OPC was never part of the crisis.

“However, some of our members that sustained injuries in the course of the crisis have been receiving treatment at the hospital.

“Our members travelled along the same Ajase-Ipo road when they were going to Osogbo to celebrate the Osun Osogbo festival without causing any crisis. Why is it that the whole story changed as they were returning from Osogbo?”

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has disclosed that 82 babies were delivered at the Redemption City Maternity during the 70th convention programme as of Saturday morning.

Adeboye made the disclosure during the dual Holy Communion/Anointing Service of the ongoing 70th convention of the church.

He said of the 82 babies, who were delivered at the church’s facilities at the camp, 48 are boys and 34 are girls.

He commended all the departments of the church during the thanksgiving service.

The convention, however, came to an end yesterday with the ordination of 2,057 men and women as full pastors.

He said: “Of all the departments the prayer department is number one. They are the engine room of this convention. They prayed earnestly that the Almighty God should keep all the agents of Satan away from us.

“The bandits know we are meeting, the terrorists know we are going to be gathering in millions and I am sure they did not mean us well; but because some people are holding on to the throne of God. We appreciate the Almighty God for His Grace, Mercy, and divine visitation during this convention.”

Earlier, Pastor Folu Adeboye led some senior pastors to anoint more than 2,000 men and women as pastors in the mission.

Adeboye, in his proclamation, said: “I anoint you pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God in the name of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The highest office in RCCG is the pastor. These people are going to be equal to the General Overseer.”

Standing in front of the historic Red Fort in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday pledged to transform India into a developed country in the next 25 years.

“The way the world is seeing India is changing. There is hope from India and the reason is the skills of 1.3 billion Indians,” Modi said. “The diversity of India is our strength. Being the mother of democracy gives India the inherent power to scale new heights.”
Modi’s words came as millions celebrated 75 years of Indian independence since the stroke of midnight on August 15, 1947 that ended nearly 200 years of British colonial rule.
At the time, India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru said the country was on a path of revival and renaissance.
“A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new,” Nehru said. “When an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance.”
Seventy-five years later, the India of today is almost unrecognizable from that of Nehru’s time.
Since gaining independence, India has built one of the world’s fastest growing economies, is home to some of the world’s richest people, and according to the United Nations, its population will soon surpass China’s as the world’s largest.
But despite the nation’s surging wealth, poverty remains a daily reality for millions of Indians and significant challenges remain for a diverse and growing nation of disparate regions, languages, and faiths.

Lokpanta Cattle Market Was Set Up For Community-Driven Development - Kalu
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu

The Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu says the cattle market in Lokpanta, Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State was set up to drive revenue for the development of the area, ABN TV reports.

Kalu who visited the community during his mid-term ward-to-ward tour explained that the area was supposed to get five percent of the revenue generated from the market for its development.

According to him, he used revenues generated from the Lokpanta cattle market to fight insecurity in Abia State when he was governor.

“I left office as your governor so many years ago. I fought insecurity as your Chief Security Officer from what we raised from the cattle market. The agreement we had while setting up the market was for the state to get 5% and the local government area gets the other 5%.

“It was done with good intentions to drive development in your area. We didn’t establish the market to hurt anyone. We brought the market so that money raised from it can be used to build schools, hospitals and water in your area.

“I did it because I love you people. People should stop playing politics with everything including insecurity. Lives should be valued by all because it is only God that can give life.”

The Abia North Senator was received by the traditional ruler, Uduemeze III of Lopkanta, HRH Prince Ifeanyi Eke alongside the president generals of Umuchieze community, various women, and youth groups.

The traditional rulers and community stakeholders commended Kalu for his impactful leadership to their community and restated their commitment to re-elect in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has blamed the Red Devils’ poor performance in the Premier League due to the club’s inactivity in the transfer market this summer.

In a chat with FIVEUK, Ferdinand stated that the expectations of Ten Hag and Cristiano Ronaldo have already been dashed following the club’s inactivity in the transfer market this summer.

The Dutch manager looked helpless and lost, just like his players, as he watched them crumble before his eyes on Saturday.

Goals from Josh Dasilva, Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee, and Bryan Mbeumo condemned the Red Devils to their second defeat from the first two games of the season.

“I feel sorry for Ten Hag,” the former England international told FIVEUK.

“He’s come in under false pretences. He’s come in expecting new signings.

“People are moaning at Cristiano Ronaldo but he’s sitting there thinking, ‘I’m expecting new signings as well.’

“Now he’s [Ten Hag] probably sitting there thinking ‘I’ve been sold a dummy here, I didn’t know I was coming into this’.”
