“We are here to set up this committee and make sure we reconnect electricity in Ohafia and other Abia North communities. I will do everything to make sure the electricity is restored. It is unacceptable for Ohafia to be in blackout especially when we have the 14 Brigade there. This is not politics; it is about doing what is right,” he said.

Japhet Omojuwa, Prof. Anya, Audu Ogbe, Others To Speak At NIPR’s ‘Citizens Summit’ As Institute Decries Lingering, Embarrassing ASUU Strike

0

Notable Nigerians across all strata of life have been selected to speak at the upcoming Citizens Summit organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR in collaboration with over 70 organisations.

This comes as the institute expresses worry that the ongoing strike by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU could serious affect the country’s future and the education of its younger generations, describing the lingering strike as embarrassing.

President and Chairman of Council of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR Mallam Mukhtar Sirajo spoke at a press conference on Monday to mark the beginning of the Citizens Summit for National Integration, Peace and Security, scheduled to hold next week Tuesday, 23rd and Wednesday 24th, August, 2022 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

He hinted that the Summit is a product of research conducted by the Governing Council of the Institute to identify factors responsible for what it called “current sad and unfortunate developments in our country”.

According to Mallam Sirajo, the outcome of its research revealed a widening trust deficit at three levels between government and the citizens, between and among the various ethnic and sociology cultural groups, and generally among the citizens, which have weakened the fabrics holding the country together as a people.

He said, “The research also revealed a collapse of core national values, citizens despondency and apathy on issues of national development. It was therefore, the need to address the identified challenges that birthed the idea of the programme named “Citizens Summit for National Integration, Peace andSecurity, a programme, carefully designed to promote national cohesion, peaceful co-existence among citizens, rebuild trust, and lay solid foundation for a new and prosperous Nigeria.

“Today, it is a common knowledge that relationships amongst our people are not what they used to be; mutual suspicion and antagonism seem to have taken over the place of our once beautiful and relatively peaceful coexistence that was least influenced by ethno-religious and other primordial differences.

“Realising that at the core of the mandate of the Public Relations profession is the birthing and sustenance of mutually beneficial relationships (and mending them where they crack or even break down) the Institute came to the conclusion that our beloved country, Nigeria, needs more than a shot in the arm in this regard.

“No nation thrives and progresses in an atmosphere of distrust. The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) recognizes trust as a key element in nation-building and the role of dialogue in societal well-being and development, and has decided to take up the challenge of rebuilding the broken trust through reopening channels of effective dialogue and development-oriented conversation. It is for this reason that we chose the theme of the Summit to be, Reopen Conversation, Rebuild Trust.”

While expressing worry over the growing insecurity in Nigeria, NIPR called on both state and non-state actors to intensify collaborations and redouble efforts at federal, state, and local levels towards ensuring effective protection and security of lives and property Nigerians.

Mallam Mukhtar added, “Also, the Institute is greatly worried over the prolonged ASUU strike, which has affected the academic calendar of our children. There is no gainsaying the fact that we can only assure the future of the country by ensuring an assured future for its future leaders.

“This cannot be brought about without consciously and deliberately preparing them for the challenges ahead. A solid educational foundation is therefore absolutely a necessary first step towards achieving that. We must therefore quickly return to the path of giving education of our children the urgency and importance that it more than deserves.

“Government should as a matter of urgency, engage more determinedly with the concerned unions to resolve the lingering and embarrassing strike and should be seen to be doing that.’

The Summit which will be chaired by Dr. Mrs. Dere Awosika, Chairman, Access Bank will have as speakers, social media influencer, Japhet Omojuwa, former Minister Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbe, former chairman Nigeria Economic Summit, Prof. Anya O. Anya and Barr. Mrs. Adepeju Jaiyeoba.

It is expected to have two plenaries and 2 syndicates, across 14 thematic areas.

Mallam Mukhtar expressed hope that the summit will come up with creative ideas, sustainable solutions, and implementable outcomes.

To this end, he said NIPR President, has engaged core professionals to document the entire summit processes and ensure that, there will be a comprehensive and implementable report of the summit.

He said one of the major outcomes is the initiation of a “Citizens Charter”, with focus on national reconciliation, integration, and development.

We’ve Not Received Any N1.2bn Donation From Buhari, Says Niger Republic

0

Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum’s government has denied receiving N1.2 billion from President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime, contradicting a statement by Nigeria’s minister of finance, Zainab Ahmed.

Ms Ahmed had confirmed that Mr Buhari’s regime disbursed N1.2 billion to the Niger Republic on August 3. The Nigerien government insisted that was not true though its troops continue to protect Nigerians from armed bandits.

Nigerien Minister of Defence, Alkassoum Indatou, rebutting Mr Buhari regime’s claim, revealed that Zamfara residents rely on the neighbouring nation’s soldiers for protection against bandits.

Mr Indatou pointed out that Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara gifted the Maradi region Hilux vans, not the Buhari regime as claimed by Ms Ahmed.

“The state of Zamfara which has given five vehicles to the Maradi region, four of which have already been received, it is not the federal government as the Minister of Finance of Nigeria Zainab Ahmed declared,” said a translation of the French statement of a top Nigerien official familiar with the matter. “The populations of Zamfara who are on the border with Niger call more on the Nigerien soldiers who respond to the minute than even those of their own country.”

The prompt response of the Nigerien soldiers to Zamfara residents’ distress calls might have informed Mr Matawalle’s decision to gift the neighbouring country Hilux vehicles.

In February, the Buhari regime claimed it contracted Kaura Motors Nigeria Limited, with Fidelity Bank account 4010638472, to purchase 10 Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles for the Niger Republic for N1.2 billion.

The Nigerien government’s denial of Mr Buhari’s intervention package could strain the relationship between both countries and further ignite the controversy surrounding the matter.

Greeted with disdain, the news of the disbursement first reported by Sahara Reporters in June had stirred the anger of Nigerians as they censured Mr Buhari for squandering Nigeria’s limited resources on countries which offered little or zero economic value to the country.

India Vows To End Insecurity In Nigeria

The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Shri Balasubramanian, on Monday, pledged his country’s readiness to provide the needed support to end insecurity in Nigeria.

This is as he promised to further deepen the India-Nigeria relations and economic ties with social investments in solar energy, artificial intelligence, fintech and scientific intelligence.

The High commissioner stated this while speaking with journalists at the flag hoisting ceremony to mark the 75th independence of India, held at the High Commission of India in Abuja.

He said, “As you know, many of the defence training has been given in India; various security outfits have been trained in military installations and training institute, so we would be happy to continue the partnership in cooperation with the Nigerian government and we are ready to assist in that direction.”

He also commended the relations between the two countries, describing it as the best.

“India-Nigeria relationship is one of the best. We started our relationship even before Nigeria’s independence in 1958 when we had established our office in Lagos. Since then, our relationship has developed, we have partnered in human capacity development, we are very happy that with the cooperation of the Nigerian government, we can now say that our relationship is strong and very cordial,” he said.

The recently appointed commissioner noted that although India had invested $14.9 million in the country, he was looking forward to strengthening the relationship in all areas.

“Whether it is training or trade, economic relations, political relations, I am looking forward to improving bilateral ties in all these areas,” he added.

Celebrated singer Innocent Idibia aka ‘2Baba’ has finally spoken on allegation over expecting eighth child with a banker.

The singer, in a statement by his management ‘Now Muzik’ denied the report of impregnating another woman.

The father of seven urged media platforms and members of the public to completely disregard the allegation as it lacked any iota of truth. كازينو888

The statement shared by Efe Omorebe via his Instagram page reads: “2BABA: PREGNANCY REPORT IS FAKE NEWS.

“It is understandable for fans, friends and concerned members of public to get curious and seek to know why @official2baba posted an apology to his wife, @annieidibia1, family and management a few days ago.”

“We would like to put it on record that the “why” is exactly what was explicitly spelt out in the same post – the pressure of almost a quarter of century of superstardom and a wish to focus on making music without the burden of high expectations of a role model.”

“Reports of him getting anyone pregnant are totally false and malicious and we urge well-meaning media platforms and members of the public to completely disregard such. It is fake news.”

“Many would recall that this fictitious banker character has been repeatedly getting e-pregnant for @official2baba every two or three years since 2014. There is no iota of truth in this allegation.– Now Muzik.”

Last week, speculations became rife following 2Baba’s public apology to his wife, kids and entire family.

Many wondered the reason behind his apology particularly since there’s been less drama from the Idibia quarter’s lately. الكزينو

Consequently, a rumour popped up that 2face had yet impregnated another lady, presumed to be a banker and was expecting his eight child; hence the public apology. الكرابس

Russian Diplomat Warns US Against Interfering In Investigations In Other Countries

Washington should not interfere in investigations conducted in other countries the way it’s not interfering in an investigation into former US President Donald Trump, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on Telegram on Monday.

“Why then do they interfere in other investigations? Since the White House and the Department of State don’t interfere in US probes, they should also refrain from interfering in investigations conducted in sovereign countries,” she pointed out, commenting on White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s statement that the White House was not interfering in the situation around a search of Trump’s estate.

FBI agents searched Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Florida home on Monday. A total of 11 sets of classified documents were seized, the Wall Street Journal reported. According to a warrant that was released to the public on Friday, the search was related to an investigation into the potential mishandling of classified documents.
