At least 170 pressure groups from across the 17 local government areas of Abia state have pledged their support for the Labour Party governorship candidate in the state ahead of the 2023 general elections, Dr. Alex Otti.

According to the leadership of the groups, Otti a former bank chief executive officer provides a credible alternative for the people of the state, assuring that they will support his victory as the next governor of the state.

Njoku Saint Jerry A, the Publicity Secretary Labour Party, Abia State in a statement on Saturday said the Representatives of the groups including Leaders of All Churches for Peter Obi/Alex Otti in Abia State led by Apostle Kenneth C. Wiper, representatives of Sub groups from the Pentecostal fellowship, Anglicans, Methodists, Catholics, Coordinators from Abia Arise organization, Coalition for Peter Obi and Alex Otti, Rescue Abia Group, Ward representatives including the Otawike Regiments led by Commander Chinenye Ukaegbu came to the campaign office of Alex Otti where they declared allegiance and full support to Mr. Alex Otti in his journey to government house, Umuahia.

The statement read in part, “Speaking on behalf of Rescue Abia Group whose membership spread in all the 17 LGA’s, Mr. Okoro Sunday in his presentation said, Alex Ottis involvement in the guber race has provided credible options among the rest of the contestants whom he described as a choice between the bad and the ugly that has characterized everything about Abia state till date.

“Time will not permit us to narrate our ordeals as residents of Abia state in the hands of the previous government, nevertheless, we are confident in our choice of competent leadership that have been exemplified by Dr. Alex Otti in all ramifications.” He said.

“Matilda Anyamnele, State Coordinator, Coalition for Peter Obi (CPO), in her remarks posited that “after due consideration with all available information available to us as a group, we Have found nobody worthy of rescuing Abia from the comatose state of non-performance but Alex Otti, having followed the career of Alex Otti since his days at the helms of apex financial institution, meticulous and disciplined with public trust in his care, the Coalition made up of several other Pro groups across the country has vowed to work with the Labour Party guber candidate and every other candidates to ensure that the presidential bid of Mr. Peter Obi is balanced with competent lieutenants in the business of leadership.

“The State Youth Coordinator, Abia Arise Group, Mr. Chuks Onyebuchi speaking on behalf of the youth wing acknowledged the persistence and determination of Alex Otti to rescue Abia from its final collapse beginning from 2013 when his people endowed mandate was arbitrarily stolen, which has disrupted the progress of Abia state and led to its descent in all human and economic indices.

“In his statement he declared that’ the group is aware of the existing distractions by those who have continue to frustrate the development of this state including their speed to bamboozle the electorates with early freebies and unsolicited charities,

“I am confident in one thing, the people are wiser now and at the right time we will address all that concerns our people maturely including their health conditions.” He said. Amid a resounding applause.

“The Campaign DG for Alex Otti gubernatorial Mr. Acho Obioma, former APC stalwart, who made it clear that he voluntarily left the party based on his personal conviction that Alex Otti is the candidate to beat based on his credibility and competence emphasized on the need for all members of the ‘Obidient Movement’ to work for the overall victory of Labour Party because on election day, the emblem of vote will be Labour Party and not the face of the individual candidates.

“In situations where voters are divided between the Presidential candidate of Labour in the person of Mr. Peter Obi and the gubernatorial candidate in Abia state, the entire activities are likely to amount to a fruitless efforts therefore he encouraged all to make their vote count to the fullest by Voting labour Party in complete Obedience to the clarion call for a paradigm shift in leadership that works and is people-oriented from the Federal to the state level.

“In response, the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Alex Otti commended the leaders of Pro Groups represented and urged them never to relent in their efforts to see that good governance is established in Abia State.

“Abia state is made up competent and organised people and not the ridicule certain characters have subjected this state to;

“Things are not right in Abia state – you can compare the difference between 2014 till date and see if any of us is better off. Abia State, without mincing words has failed. I foresaw this in 2014 and gave the warning signal and I am certain the realities are facing all of us in the face now, a situation where people are owed for over 30 months, schools shut down due to sheer negligence of people elected and appointed to leadership positions should call for our urgent sincere attention.
