Tinubu Congratulates Team Nigeria After Commonwealth Games Success — Bola Tinubu

The South East Youth Movement for Tinubu/Shettima has accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, of deceiving Ndigbo by refusing to zone its presidential ticket to the South East.

They said this happened despite the support the zone had given the party since 1999.

The convener of the political group, Chief Emeka Anike Ugbuene, who said this in a speech during the inauguration of the state executives of the movement in Enugu, stated that the group would mobilize voters in the South East for the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Chief Ugbuene further stated that Tinubu has shown great capacity to lead Nigeria and to turn the nation’s fortune around.

“Today will be remembered in history as a day the youths of Igboland decided to take a positive step in the interest of the entire Igboland. As a nation, the Igbo have suffered great injustices in the Nigerian state. While some of these injustices are externally influenced, some of them are self-inflicted. The current political realities point to the fact that we have not played the best politics since the return of democracy in Nigeria in 1999.

“While other regions were smart enough to spread their interests in various political platforms, we decided to put all our eggs in one basket. This has come back to hunt Ndigbo as we, again, were unable to secure the ticket of the two major political parties in Nigeria. The Peoples Democratic Party has merely used and dumped the South East. The alienation of the South East by the present administration was caused by our blind loyalty to the PDP. We must not allow this to happen again.

“The question we are asking today is, do we continue to play this unwise brand of politics or do we align properly this time around? That is why we have decided to pitch our tent with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“This group will deploy resources and everything possible to ensure that Tinubu wins the 2023 Presidency. We have decided to support and align the candidate with the best chance of winning the election.

“Tinubu stands out as the best candidate and he will emerge victorious. We also believe that Bola Tinubu has the leadership qualities needed to transform Nigeria. We all are witnesses to how he transformed Lagos state. We are persuaded that Tinubu will do the same with Nigeria when he wins.

He further dismissed the chances of both the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi stating that Bola Tinubu is the right man to lead Nigeria.

“Candidates like Atiku should go and rest. It is on record that he has been contesting and failing since 1993. He should rest so that people with fresh ideas can lead this nation. Atiku had all the time to achieve whatever he wanted to achieve as Vice President of Nigeria but he failed. So he should rest.

“We are also not unaware of the awareness our brother, Peter Obi is creating in the Labour Party. What he is doing is good for the political climate but that is where it ends. We all know that he does not have the needed structure and resources to win the position. It is fine that he is making enough noise but what we are going into is serious business.

“After today’s inauguration of the state executives, we will inaugurate the local government and ward executives in all the states of the South East. We will then go into aggressive mobilization of voters in all nooks and crannies of the South East for Bola Tinubu. افضل موقع مراهنات كرة القدم

He therefore, called on all well meaning youths in the South East to join this movement.

The widespread acceptance of the candidacy of Mascot Uzor Kalu, who is the governorship candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP) for the 2023 gubernatorial race in Abia state, continues unabated amongst the political heavyweights of the state as Elder Mark Ugorji joins the party.

Elder Ugorji, a former stalwart of the All Progressives Party (APC) in Umuahia North local government of Abia state, was unveiled to a cross-section of the APP’s executives at his country home at Olokoro in Umuahia, stated that his decision to endorse Mascot’s candidacy is because of the track-record of him and by extension his family in Abia politics.

“Mascot Kalu is from a well-known lineage in Abia’s politics. No politician in this state has not benefited from his family, except if the person is leaving in denial.

“When his brother was the governor of Abia state, the infrastructural projects we have now in Umuahia North were done by him. Mascot is not like our Umuahia brothers who will make promises to you and do the opposite.”

Speaking further on his experiences in other parties, Elder Ugorji admonished the indigenes of Umuahia North to vote for Mascot as he is on a mission to fix Abia state.

“PDP and other parties have failed us in Abia. I have been a member of APC, APGA, and other parties, so I know what I am talking about.

Abia state has been spoiled and Mascot is coming to fix things. If you are not tired of suffering in the state, then you can vote for another person. But if you are tired, then vote for Mascot.”

Speaking at the event as a special guest of honour, Mascot Uzor Kalu appreciated Ugorji for joining the moving train while acknowledging his capacity in the politics of Abia.

“I know the capacity of Elder Ugorji and have been speaking with him about joining our party. When he accepted, I implored him to become the Director General of our campaign, which he duly obliged.

Mascot Kalu also seized the opportunity to reel out his manifesto to the people, which includes but is not limited to unifying Abia; the restoration of workers’ salaries on the 26th of every month; the repositioning of Aba as the trade capital of Africa; the construction of at least 5 kilometers of new roads in each local government; the creation of employment opportunities for Abia youths, among others.

Elder Mark Ugorji will be unveiled as the Mascot Uzor Kalu’s campaign Director General at the APP’s secretariat in Umuahia by next week.

Tension Grips Abia PDP As Ikechi Emenike Finally Unveils Running Mate Amidst High Expectations

There are indications that the ruling PDP in Abia state has been gripped in deep fear of uncertainty as the State All Progressives Congress, APC, Governorship Candidate, High Chief Ikechi Emenike on Sunday at Ward B, Item in Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State, unveiled his running mate for the 2023 general elections.

Presenting Rev’d Barrister Mrs Glory Felix Akara as his running mate, Emenike described her as a woman of faith, true mother and highly educated Nigerian citizen. He said it has always been his dream for a person from the Ukwa political bloc of Abia State to be part of the top echelon of Abia State Executive Council.

Emenike, who said it was a deliberate decision to unveil her at Abia North considering the fact that the woman is from Abia South while he is from Abia Central, added, “You cannot win Governorship election in Abia State without the vote of Bende.”

He called on APC stakeholders in Bende to mobilise their people massively to ensure victory for the party in 2023.

Emenike said there were some people who have been claiming to be members of the APC, and don’t want the party to win, adding that such people have been recruiting people for other political parties.

Earlier in her acceptance speech, the Deputy Governorship Candidate, Rev’d Barrister Mrs Akara, who is from Ohambele, Ndoki in Ukwa East Local Government Area, said the emergence of Emenike was the answer to prayers.

She said, “The people of Abia have prayed to God to intervene in the affairs of Abia, and God has answered by making Emenike the governorship candidate of the party.

There was money rain on Monday at the opening ceremony of the Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association held in Lagos, as personalities donated over N3 million for the NBA female football competition to be held as part of the events during the eight-day conference.

During her speech on accountability, award-winning writer and speaker, Chimamanda Adichie, called on the citizens to hold themselves accountable before holding the leaders responsible.

She said, “A bold transition must embrace audacity and innovation. They have called me troublesome. Although it is never enjoyable to be called troublesome. I never set out to provoke for its sake. But I refuse to silence myself for the fear of what I might inadvertently provoke. It has always been important to me to say what I believe, to call out injustice.

“As long as we refuse to untangle the knot of injustice, peace cannot thrive. If we don’t talk about it, we fail to hold leaders accountable and we turn what should be transparent systems into ugly opaque cults.”

She noted that there was “injustice” in the monetary compensation which the male and female NBA teams would receive in the football competition.

Report shows that the male team would get N500,000 while the female team would get N200,000 as winning prizes.

However, after Adiche’s charge, several personalities made contributions to increase the women’s football prize to the sum of N3,200,000.

Personalities, who made the donations included the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, the Federal Minister of Works and Housing of Nigeria, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, Paul Edeh, among others.

In her closing remarks, she advocated for an uncorrupted judicial system and called on the NBA to leverage technology in judicial process and the administration of justice in the country.

Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar; former Anambra state governor and presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP); and former Borno state governor and vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Kashim Shettima in the 2023 general elections have arrived at the 62nd Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) conference on Monday.

Shettima was representing the APC national leader and presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu in the NBA Annual General conference at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos state.

The arrivals of the politicians shook the auditorium as their supporters hailed them with rapturous applause and hailings as the development has gotten social media talking.

While delivering his speech, Atiku said, “I am a product of developed powers and I know what the regional governments did with those powers. That’s why I’m advocating for restructuring.”

Nigerian renowned novelist, Chimamanda Adichie was also present at the event and was billed to address the participants.

Daughter Of Putin’s Ally Killed In Car Bomb Near Moscow

Ukrainian citizen Natalia Vovk, identified as the perpetrator of the murder of Russian political scientist and journalist Daria Dugina in the Moscow region, might have used fake documents to enter Russia, a source in the law enforcement agencies told TASS on Monday.

“Ukrainian national Natalia Vovk might have used falsified documents, including a passport, to enter Russia,” he said.

It was reported earlier in the day, that Vovk would be put on the wanted list and Russia would seek her extradition.

On the evening of August 20, an explosive device went off in a Toyota Land Cruiser car on a road near the village of Bolshiye Vyazyomy, the Moscow Region. The car caught fire. As it was found out later, the explosive device had been planted under the vehicle’s floor on the driver’s side. Dugina, who was driving the car, died instantly. Criminal proceedings have been launched on murder charges (paragraph E of part 2 of the Russian Criminal Code’s article 105). It will be investigated by the central office of Russia’s Investigative Committee.

Russia’ Federal Security Service (FSB) told TASS on Monday that Dugina’s murder had been solved. According to the FSB, the murder was hatched by Ukrainian special service and the perpetrator was Ukrainian national Natalia Vovk, who fled to Estonia.

Cooking Gas Price To Rise Next Week, Say Marketers — Gas

The price of gas in Europe surged above $3,000 per 1,000 cubic meters during Monday trading for the first time since March 8, extending gains amid reports on suspension of supplies via Nord Stream for three days starting August 31 due to the repair of gas compressor unit, according to data provided by London’s ICE.

The price of gas futures for September delivery at the TTF hub in the Netherlands went up to $3,024 per 1,000 cubic meters, or 292.4 euro per MWh (on the basis of the current euro exchange rate against the dollar, prices at ICE are in euro per MWh).

The increase in the gas price since the beginning of trading almost totals 20%.

Meanwhile, the price of gas futures for December delivery has approached $3,100.

Last week Gazprom said gas supplies via Nord Stream would be completely stopped from August 31 to September 2 due to the repair of the only gas compressor unit remaining in operation. Upon completion of works and the absence of technical malfunctions of the unit, gas supplies will be resumed at the volume of 33 mln cubic meters per day.

The Nord Stream gas pipeline, which supplies gas from Russia to Europe, has been used at about 20% of its maximum capacity since July 27 due to the shutdown of two gas turbines. One of them, built in Canada by Siemens Energy, was sent to Montreal for repairs. Due to Ottawa’s sanctions against Russia, the manufacturer initially refused to return the repaired turbine to Germany, but after numerous requests from Berlin, the company decided to do it. On July 25, Gazprom announced the forced shutdown of another gas turbine engine at the Portovaya compressor station. Consequently, only one turbine remains in working condition now.
