Our New Prelate Emerged Through Transparent, Godly Process - Presbyterian Church

The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, PCN has expressed dismay over fake news published in some news outlets, alleging that the newly elected Moderator of the General Assembly and Prelate of the Church, Most Rev. Ekpenyong Akpanika faulted the process that brought him to power.

The news publication alluded that Rev. Akpanika spoke in an interview on August 15 where he allegedly said that the electioneering process that elevated him to the top position was “ungodly“.

On Tuesday, the Director of Information and Public Relations Affairs of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Nnoke Ibe said Rev. Akpanika never granted a press interview on the said date and never made such comment on the said date.

While insisting that the new Moderator of the General Assembly and Prelate of the Church was elected through a free and transparent exercise, the church cautioned that anything Rev. Akpanika has said in the past should not be taken out of context.

According to Rev. Ibe, the Church has over the years maintained a stringent pattern in choosing its leadership which avails delegates the opportunity to vote their choices without any form of inducements.

“We are using this medium to make it clear that the Prelate never granted any press interview nor did he speak to any member of the press on the said date. We, therefore, wonder where that interview was held or where the Prelate might have made that embarrassing statement.

“We further clarify that whatever the Prelate might have said on any other occasion should not be taken out of context. To clear any doubt, we are confident that the process that produces the leadership of the Church has always been adjudged by observers to be stringent, transparent, free, and fair.

“In the processes of her elections, the PCN prayerfully depends on the leadership of the Holy Spirit as members and ministers of proven integrity gather to vote for their choices without inducement or any form of pressure. The election that produced His Eminence Ekpenyong Akpanika followed this same time-tested procedure.

“We want to finally affirm that His Eminence has promised to continue to resist all ungodly influences and practices in the process of choosing leaders for the Church to ensure that it remains pure and guided by righteousness. According to the Prelate, elections must be devoid of ungodly, unchristian, and unethical practices.”

The church, therefore, urged the general public to ignore any attempt by anybody to cast slur or aspersion on it or the person of the Prelate and Moderator, Rev. Ekpenyong Akpanika.

The Presbyterian Church assures that it will continue to show the way in conducting transparent and acceptable elections through the grace of God and showing good examples for the nation and the world to follow in the course of choosing leaders.

The new Prelate of the Presbyterian church, Most Rev Dr. Ekpeyong Akpanika was elected in Calabar Cross River state recently at the 25th General Assembly. He succeeds the outgoing Prelate, His Eminence, Nzie Nsi Eke.

Several NATO States Want The Conflict In Ukraine To Continue - Turkish Top Diplomat
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Tuesday that a number of NATO countries want the conflict in Ukraine to continue.

“There are countries in the West that want the war to continue, with NATO member states among them. I mean not only the US but also NATO member countries. There were also those who wanted to sabotage the grain agreement. Yet this wasn’t the US. The US contributed [to the conclusion of the grain deal], including lifting restrictions on the exports of Russian fertilizers, unblocking ports and [lifting restrictions] on banking operations. Yet there were also European countries who wanted to sabotage this. We are not losing hope and continuing our efforts,” he said in an interview with the Haber Global TV channel.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation in order to protect people “who have been suffering from abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” Following this, the US and its allies announced the introduction of sweeping sanctions against Russia and stepped up arms deliveries to Kiev.

A package of documents geared towards resolving the issue of food and fertilizer supplies on global markets was signed on July 22 in Istanbul. Under the Russia-UN memorandum, the United Nations undertakes to work toward lifting anti-Russian restrictions hampering the exports of agricultural products and fertilizers. Another document envisages a mechanism of exporting grain from Ukraine-controlled Black Sea ports. An agreement between Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Nations provides for the establishment of a four-party coordination center to search ships carrying grain in order to prevent weapons smuggling and avoid any false flag.

“The Police similarly states unequivocally that the advert has no connection with the Nigeria Police Force nor is it in tandem with the Police recruitment process.

“The publication should be disregarded in all its entirety,” he said.

According to him, the website to which the publication refers intending candidates, http://www.recruitment.psc.gov.ng, is not associated with the Nigeria Police Force.

He called on all stakeholders and intending applicants to discountenance the information in both the publication and on the portal.

Adejobi said the website was not the official portal for Police Constables recruitment.

He said the commencement of the 2022 recruitment exercise would be made public via the official police e-recruitment website – https://policerecruitment.gov.ng.

Russia Accuses Ukraine Of Darya Dugina’s Murder

Daughter Of Putin’s Ally Killed In Car Bomb Near Moscow

Russia has blamed Ukrainian special services for the murder of Darya Dugina, a Russian political commentator and the daughter of prominent ultranationalist ideologue Alexander Dugin, according to Russian state news agency TASS.

“The murder of journalist Darya Dugina has been solved, it was prepared by the Ukrainian special services, by a citizen of Ukraine,” TASS reported, citing Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), which named a woman as the perpetrator and said she had fled to Estonia after the attack.
Ukraine has denied any involvement in Dugina’s killing, calling the FSB claims fiction.
“We have nothing to do with the murder of this lady — this is the work of the Russian special services,” said Oleksii Danylov, secretary of Ukraine’s National Security Council, in an interview on Ukrainian television Monday.
“I emphasize once again that our special services have nothing to do with this,” he said.
Dugina, the editor of a Russian disinformation website, died after a bomb planted in a car she was driving went off in the outskirts of Moscow on Saturday evening.
The FSB said that the assailant was a Ukrainian woman who arrived in Russia on July 23 with her young daughter, TASS reported. The pair attended a festival on Saturday near Moscow where Dugina was a guest of honor.
“The criminals used a Mini Cooper car to monitor the journalist,” TASS reported, citing the FSB, adding that the woman had rented an apartment in Moscow in the same building where Dugina lived.
After remotely detonating explosives planted in Dugina’s Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, the FSB said the woman and her daughter drove through the Pskov region to Estonia, roughly a 12-hour journey.
CNN cannot independently verify the FSB claims cited by the TASS report.
Estonia’s Police and Border Guard said Monday it only shares cross-border movement information “in cases as determined by the law” and not because of Russian accusations in the media.
The agency’s media representative Ragne Keisk also told CNN in an email that the border force had “not received any formal information or request from the Russian authorities on this topic.”
The Estonian Foreign Ministry said it could not comment and directed inquiries to the country’s Justice Ministry and Border Guard.
Mykhailo Podolyak, a key adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said on Monday that the FSB accusation was reflective of the “fictional world” in which Russian propaganda thrives.
“Ru-propaganda lives in a fictional world: [Ukrainian] woman and her 12-year-old child were ‘assigned’ responsible for blowing up the car of propagandist Dugina. Surprisingly, they did not find the ‘Estonian visa’ on the spot,” he said on Twitter.
Ukrainian Defense Intelligence spokesman Andriy Yusov also rejected Russia’s claims on Monday as “fake.”
“It is a fake that Ukraine is involved in this. It is a fake that the National Guard of Ukraine is involved in these events. The National Guard is fulfilling its legal tasks at the territory of Ukraine,” Yusov said in a statement.
Yusov then redirected responsibility for the blast back on Russia, saying: “This looks more like sorting things out within Russia. Both Dugin and his daughter are marginal characters and not a point of interest to Ukraine.”
Dugina’s father, Alexander Dugin, is a prominent Russian nationalist credited with being the architect or “spiritual guide” of President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
At a memorial service on Tuesday, Dugin said his daughter “died for our victory, our Russian victory, for the sake of the Orthodoxy of our country, our state.”
“She had no fear, and the last thing she said, when we talked at the Festival of Tradition, she said to me: ‘Dad, I feel like a warrior, I feel like a hero. I want to be like this, I don’t want any other fate. I want to be with my people, with my country,'” Dugin continued.
Both father and daughter have been sanctioned by the United States and the United Kingdom for acting to destabilize Ukraine.
The US Treasury sanctioned Dugina in March as the chief editor for the disinformation website United World International, which it claimed was owned by Putin ally Yevgeny Prigozhin and pushed messages suggesting Ukraine would “perish” if it was admitted to NATO.
Prigozhin, known as “Putin’s chef,” is believed to be behind the Internet Research Agency (IRA), the notorious Kremlin-linked troll factory accused of meddling in the 2016 US election.
The UK, in a July filing by the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation, called Dugina a “frequent and high-profile contributor of disinformation in relation to Ukraine and the Russian invasion of Ukraine on various online platforms.”
Putin on Monday sent his condolences to Dugina’s family, calling her death “a vile, cruel crime.”
In a statement published on the Kremlin’s Telegram channel, Putin said: “A journalist, scientist, philosopher, war correspondent, she honestly served the people, the Fatherland, she proved by deed what it means to be a patriot of Russia.”

Chelsea Considering Shocking Move For Former Striker Morata

Chelsea Considering Shocking Move For Former Striker Morata
Alvaro Morata

Struggling Chelsea are considering a shock move for former Spanish striker Alvaro Morata.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is looking for a front-man before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Already Romelu Lukaku has returned to Inter Milan on loan, only a year after his record £97.5million move from Italy.

And Timo Werner has also re-signed for RB Leipzig on a permanent deal, leaving Chelsea lacking in the attacking third.

Former Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling, was signed early on in the summer but no direct replacement for Lukaku has been sourced.

And Sport is reporting Chelsea have identified Morata as an option.

Former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, 33, remains Tuchel’s No1 priority following talks with Barcelona.

And the two clubs are close to striking an agreement for the forward, Sky Sports reported.

Tuchel managed Aubameyang at Borussia Dortmund and remains a fan of the player, with personal terms believed to be no problem.

It is claimed the two clubs are locked in advanced talks for a deal of between £15m and £25m.

Chelsea had grown frustrated and were preparing to focus on other targets, including Morata.

The Spaniard arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2017 for £60m but struggled during his two seasons in England.

Morata left after just 24 goals in 72 games for Atletico Madrid in 2019 on an 18-month loan and later signed for £58m.

The striker later joined Juventus, six years after leaving the club, on a two-year loan, but this season returned to Atletico.

Morata scored twice in his first start of the season but remains linked with a move away and his valuation is believed to be £21m.

Why Klopp Should Be Worried About His Team – Keane

Klopp Defends Decision To Join Red Bull As Global Head Of Soccer
Jurgen Klopp

Manchester United legend, Roy Keane has revealed that Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp should be worried with the way his team performed against the Red Devils.

Recall that Man United defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford in Monday’s night Premier League game to earn their first full points.

Keane said an on-pitch argument between Virgil van Dijk and James Milner during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Monday had more to it.

“I’d be worried if I was Klopp with what I’ve seen tonight,” the former United captain said on Sky Sports.

“Defensively [they were] very, very casual, going back to the Fulham game, Van Dijk even the other night against Palace, I thought he could’ve done better.

“Tonight, we made the point about him arguing with James Milner, I know that can happen but it just seemed a bit more than that, more than the normal falling out with a player.”

Virgil Van Dijk

Jamie Carragher has slammed Virgil van Dijk for failing to close down Jadon Sancho as he opened the scoring for Manchester United on Monday night, against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

United secured their first win of the season after edging Liverpool 2-1 with Sancho opening the scoring, showing composure inside the Reds penalty area.

He sat down both James Milner and Alisson before side-footing into the net.

But having sat down Milner and Alisson, van Dijk chose not to approach Sancho, which allowed the ex-Dortmund man to get his shot away, with van Dijk opting to chance his luck and get in the way of the shot – his hands behind his back.

It gave Sancho time and space to pick his spot. Marcus Rashford made it two, before Mo Salah got one for Liverpool.

But the game finished 2-1 to United – leaving Liverpool with just two points from three games. Carragher was critical

“Van Dijk has got to come out, I don’t understand,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“He’s 10/10 for most things, but one thing I do question him on, he does lack intensity. Even in the Champions League final,” Carragher said, pitchside at Old Trafford on Sky Sports.

“He’s rarely seen on the floor and that’s a good thing for a defender. But sometimes you’ve got to just throw yourself at it. He made himself smaller, be more aggressive and slide in.”

There have been question marks surrounding van Dijk this season, already. He looked uncomfortable and nervous against Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Dutchman conceded a penalty in which Mitrovic scored to draw Fulham level.
