The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has again, rolled over its ongoing strike, ABN TV reports.
The action of the nation’s public university lecturers’ union, came after its National Executive Council, NEC meeting held in Abuja.
The meeting which began late Sunday at the University of Abuja’s headquarters of ASUU, ended early Monday morning with the resolution that the strike be rolled over.

Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State on Sunday approved the employment of 134 health personnel to boost healthcare delivery in the state.
Buni, in a statement by his Director-General Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed in Damaturu, said the personnel graduated from Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery, Damaturu.
The personnel included 67 midwives, 12 nurses, and 55 community nurses.
The governor also approved the placement of 167 nursing students in the college on a monthly allowance of N10,000 each.
He said investment in the training of health personnel was necessary, in order to provide adequate and qualified manpower for various health institutions across the state.
Buni charged the new employees to be dedicated to their duties and serve the people diligently to justify the government’s investment in them.
The Ondo State government has refuted claims that it plans to punish teachers in the state public school who enroll their children and wards in private schools.
The state government was reacting to a report in the media which claimed that the government in Ondo state averred that enrolling children in private schools is an offence.
Reacting to the report, Olabode Richard Olatunde
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State, said the statement which is credited to the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan was misconstrued.
According to the statement, there’s no law stopping civil servants in the state, especially teachers, from enrolling their children in any school.
“Undoubtedly, the Ondo State Government under Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has made a huge investment in the education sector in the state, especially in Primary and Secondary Schools. Tertiary institutions are not excluded. “Under the Akeredolu administration, over 800 Public Primary Schools have been reconstructed and renovated with perimeter fence, ICT center, and playgroup equipment. The students now enjoy modern desks and chairs procured by the Akeredolu administration. Besides, Governor Akeredolu recently recruited over one thousand teachers in the Public primary schools.
“It is based on this background that teachers in the public schools were urged on the moral ground to enroll their wards in public schools for confidence building. “Succinctly, there is no policy or law in Ondo State that forbids anyone in the service of the government, including teachers, from enrolling their wards in any school. However, there is always a place for moral burden. It is, therefore, not an offence for teachers to enroll their wards in any school of their choice. But, it will be morally wrong for teachers, who are proud of their works and teachings to put their wards in a private school”
The Director ABN TV, Mr Ifeanyi Okali was on Sunday, August 28th, 2022, honoured “FRIEND OF THE YOUTH” by The Presbyterian Young People’s Association of Nigeria (PYPAN), Solid Rock Parish Umuahia, Abia state with a meritorious award.
The award was presented by the Minister in charge Rt Rev Ezera Ume.
The Minister while presenting the award extolled the great contributions of Okali towards the body of Christ, especially to the youths.

He further applauded him for his interest in the development of the youths in different ways.
He was described as a close friend to the youth who carries the young ones along in whatever he does.

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara, has again thrown another bombshell in continuation of his fight against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which he belongs to, by declaring that Honourable Emeka Ihedioha was robbed of his victory as the elected governor of Imo State.
Dogara declared that Ihedioha suffered daylight robbery when his election as governor of Imo State was nullified by the Supreme Court in January 2020.
The former Speaker, according to his media aide, spoke at the thanksgiving service to celebrate the 90th birthday of Ihedioha’s mother, Dame Dorothy Ihedioha, at St James Anglican Church, Asokoro, Abuja, on Sunday.
Dogara noted with delight that the stolen electoral mandate of Ihedioha did not in any way break his spirits, adding that “he has moved on with life.”
He then praised Ihedioha’s resilience and courage, attributes he said came from the upbringing he received from his mother.
He said: “We want to thank God for the gift of life and, more importantly, the gift of longevity. As it is said that the impact of life is not measured by the quantum of years you live, but by how impactful one’s life is.
“We have seen the impact of your life in the church, the community and in the lives of your children as represented by my wonderful brother, His Excellency, Honourable Emeka Ihedioha. “He has supported me and one of the meetings that led to my emergence as Speaker was held in his Guest House.”
The former Speaker added that, “I want to say this with all humility that our brother here [Ihedioha] suffered a brazen daylight robbery, and I can be quoted, but I thank God that he didn’t bend or become depressed.
“And I believe it is his faith in God that kept him and he must have contacted this grace from our mother.”
Turning to the celebrant, Dogara said, “Mama, we thank God for your life and we pray you will continue to age in grace, and by His grace, you will reach the 120 years in good health and in prosperity.
“And we will be here to celebrate with you.”
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a fake soldier, Andy Edwards, for allegedly posing as a soldier and modelling agent to rob unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables in the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Sunday, said Edwards, after posing as a model agent, usually invited ladies for auditioning.
He said whenever the ladies showed up for the auditioning; the suspect would take advantage of the situation to rob them of their valuables. شرح لعبة بلاك جاك
Hundeyin noted that one of Edwards’ victims reported him to the police, adding that policemen detailed to investigate the case arrested the suspect. العاب ربح
The PPRO said, “Detectives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a fake Army Captain, Andy Edwards, 39, for armed robbery.
“The fake soldier, who posed as a modelling agent, would invite ladies for auditioning and then rob them of their cars and valuables at gunpoint.
“He was arrested following a painstaking investigation that was launched after one of his victims reported the robbery of her Lexus RX330 SUV.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Sunday urged Nigerian youths to take charge of the future, describing them as the future of the world.
Sanwo-Olu gave the advice during the Year 2022 Children and Youth Harvest Thanksgiving of the Our Saviour’s Church, Diocese of Lagos (Anglican Communion),, at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Marina, Lagos.
The event had as its theme: ”Harvest of Restoration and Divine Satisfaction”.
He urged the youths to participate actively in different activities that were geared towards nation-building.
Sanwo-Olu said: ”Leadership was not only achieved when people were elected as governors or presidents, but from various roles assigned wherever they found themselves, such as in the church.”
The governor said that serving in the house of God was a good foundation for greater career service.
According to him, what the church stands for ”was to give you (youths) the foundation and space for them to be able to do those things they want to do and fly to whatever height.
”Indeed, you are not just the future of the nation, you are indeed the future of the world and the future is now.
”And so, you need to be partakers of it and take full charge of it.”
Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who were Parents of the Day for the Harvest Programme also urged Nigerians to unite.
”They should also shun division and make the right choices, so as to create a tomorrow that everybody would be proud of,” he urged.
The governor said that his government would continue to be responsible and responsive to the people of Lagos State.
Also, it would ensure development in every part of Lagos State, in line with the Greater Lagos Development agenda.
He said, ”Let us hold ourselves together. Whatever is dividing us as a country are the little things that can also unite us as a country.
”Let us make the right choices. Let us create a tomorrow that all of them can be proud of.
”We have that responsibility to continue to make this place (Lagos) safe. We have that responsibility to continue to make sure that we will not divide ourselves.
”We will continue to create opportunities for every one of our citizens, and we will continue to make it home to all for as long as they want to be peaceful and law-abiding.”
Speaking earlier, the Vicar of Our Saviour’s Church, TBS, The Ven. Ife Okupevi urged Sanwo-Olu to intervene in the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU).
Okupevi urged the governor to speak with President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Education and other stakeholders for quick resolution between the Federal Government and ASUU, to end the strike that had grounded university education for many months.
He also praised Sanwo-Olu for taking necessary action against COVID-19 and the security being enjoyed in Lagos State, as well as provision of infrastructure in different parts of the state.
In his sermon, the Preacher, Rev. Emmanuel Mordi, urged Christians to use their resources for God and also that those in positions of authority should be merciful to the people and ensure justice.
In a situation where societal or governmental institutions are not strong enough to compel individual behaviour in a way that advances the common good, spirituality and commitment to such values as social justice and transparency are important.
According to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, “just looking at these values, there is a great deal of unanimity about what is the right thing to do. The question is whether or not you will do those things, or whether you are motivated enough to do them, or whether you are compelled to do them.
“Spirituality helps in that sense to help you to decide what to do and what not to do. Especially where institutions are not strong enough to restrain people from behaving in a particular way or not.”
This was one of the highlights of the interaction between the Vice President and a group of Harvard Business School students who visited him on Friday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Numbering about a dozen, the students who are currently on an African excursion asked questions about leadership, faith, spirituality, government policies in education, health, economy, and national image, among others.
In his responses, the VP articulated his personal commitment to the virtues of integrity, transparency and social justice which are also virtues exhorted in the different faiths and religions in the country.
He said, “for me, spirituality connotes values. I came into government with values about what I think is important especially around transparency, social justice and justice, among others. You are almost always a product of the values you believe in. Fortunately, a lot of these values cut across the different faiths, they are not necessarily restricted to a religion or one faith.
“In societies that are more developed institutionally, you don’t need to be told that you shouldn’t do certain things because you could end up in jail if you do and there is a good likelihood that you could be detected and the process will go through and you will be punished.
“I speak about corruption and all that. But where the institutions are weak, some people have reasons for not doing the right thing,” Prof. Osinbajo submitted.
Talking about Nigeria and its perception in the international community, Prof. Osinbajo explained to the postgraduate students some of whom are Nigerians, that it is in understanding the size of Nigeria that the international community can better appreciate the enormity and complexity of some of the country’s challenges.
According to the VP, “first, there is a need to appreciate the size of the country, which is crucial to understanding what the issues are.
“For instance, Borno State is about the size of the whole of the United Kingdom plus Sweden or Denmark. So, when it is reported that there is violence in Nigeria, it is probably an incident in one remote area of the country, and many people in Abuja and Lagos may hear about it on social media, such is the size of this country.
“When they talk about economy, we are often compared with smaller African countries, but there are 10 states in Nigeria that have bigger GDPs than those countries, it is a huge target market.”
Responding to the question about some inaccurate characterization of Nigeria in sections of the international community, the Vice President said “it is important to constantly engage the international community to show them how we feel about the stereotypes. It comes down to the work we do as government and people about the characterization.
“This is why some of the work around the Ease of Doing Business etc. are all initiatives that have behind them, the whole idea that this environment is one that is welcoming to business and people can come and do business.”
Talking about creativity in governance, the Vice President said “my view is that there needs to be more innovation in governance and policy. You get that kind of innovation in business. People are disrupting in business everyday but there is very little disruption going on in government. I think there is a need for much more thinking in government.”
He also spoke about education, educating people and wealth creation, providing resources so that more people can move up.
“A lot of that is tied to education, that is really something that interests me the most. Just using an example of something we did in the Northeast.”
The VP then went on to narrate how the Learning Centers in Maiduguri were started.
“I visited Maiduguri, Borno State in 2015, and I saw many children whose parents had been killed by the Boko Haram insurgents and in a place where they were, I saw about 49,500 of such children. I had a conversation with the governor and other officials and the idea of starting a school for them came up and we stepped in.
“The State Government gave us land in Maiduguri that could accommodate 1,300 children, and these were children that could only speak Kanuri. We built a school that exposed these children to technology and values, and after five years, the children were able to speak English and Hausa, they were doing robotics, writing programmes and other things they were not able to do before then.
“What this showed is that with skills, any child, anywhere can do everything, especially when you provide that child with education that is focused,” the VP added.
The Vice President also spoke about the economy, and the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme, politics, leadership, education, and energy transition, among others.
The students, while thanking the VP for the opportunity to visit him added according to their leader, Mr. Daniel Jaiyeoba, that they wanted to hear from the Vice President noting that “we understand your private sector experience and now you are in the public sector. That is why we put this visit together.”
The students were accompanied on the visit by the Special Adviser to the President on Ease of Doing Business, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, who had taught some of them as undergraduates.
The list of the Harvard students’ delegation also included Maan Aldaiel, Dusty Register, Tomas Tussie, Connor Popik, Ruben Anzures, Scott Kimberlee, Thomas Cowan, Laura Romine, Lanre Ojutalayo, Oluwatoyin Ogundele, Etim Imoh and Abdul-Rahman Buhari.
Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has said that those who have the habit of expressing gratitude and appreciation always experience greater uplifting in their affairs.
The Governor stated this on Sunday at the Special Thanksgiving Service held in honor of a former Executive Chairman Obingwa LGA, Hon Amaechi Hanson at the Apostolic Christian Church Mission, Abayi Ohanze, Obingwa LGA, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka said in a statement.
Governor Ikpeazu noted that Hon. Amaechi did the correct thing by opting to express his appreciation to God publicly for saving his life from a ruptured appendicitis.
The release read in part, “The Governor challenged Christians to make it a habit to give thanks and appreciate God and their fellow human beings when they receive good things. Governor Ikpeazu expressed confidence that one of the reasons God preserved the life of Hon. Amaechi was because he still had a lot of work to do for Him and his people.

“He congratulated Hon. Amaechi and his wife, Theresa together with their children and prayed for God’s continued protection upon the family.

“Speaking earlier, Hon Amaechi said he is alive today simply because God graciously permitted it. According to him, the challenge he faced ob account of his health problems was more than enough to kill him, a fact he said the doctors also confirmed after the surgical procedure.
“He thanked the Governor and his wife for being part of the service despite their extremely tight schedule today. He also presented gifts to the church.
“The leadership of the Church also prayed for the Governor and presented him with a Bible and a recognition as Kingdom Builder..
“Wife of the Governor, Dr Nkechi Ikpeazu, the pioneer Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Abia State, Chief Theo Nkire and his wife were amongst other dignitaries at the service.”
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stated that he has no preferred candidate among those contesting the 2023 presidential election.
Obasanjo, who stated this in Minna on Sunday when he paid former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar a visit, said he only had a national agenda, not a preferred candidate.
“I don’t have a special candidate, I have a national agenda.”
The former President also said he was in Minna to visit the former Head of State who had been indisposed.

“I came to see my brother who has been a little indisposed. I had plans to visit him when he was still in London, but the day I arrived London was the day he returned home.
“So that is why I decided to come and see him at home. He is very special so I had to come.

The former President who was in a close meeting with Abdulsalami arrived at 12:30 and left at 1:13pm.
